Good pub food in basic but very friendly environment.... and nice selection of beer as well. Lots of local chatter drowning out sport tv unless you go down that dnd of bar.

We came to the Kings arms when we we're looking to re locate. We came in frequently and Jill and Ashley were always pleasant and interested in how our our re location was going. Now we are residents of Holsworthy we go regularly, the atmosphere is great and the food is brilliant. It's our go to pub. Would highly recommend

The pub was quite busy when we entered and was not serving food at first, but did after about 20 minutes. We ordered and were served the food it was okay food, but nothing to write home about. They were out of fish today, which was fine. Overall, the food was very bland and the service was terse. I am guessing this place is better off for regulars and locals.

Surprise find! Lovely old pub, very warm welcome and the pasties, made by the owner Ashley, were the best we had ever tasted! Returned en route home from our holiday to indulge once again and bought some to take away! Thoroughly recommend!

Awful, no baby changing facilities asked bar staff and was then told I can't use the 'family room' as their mum was in there, was then told I can't change her in the bar. Food was also bang average at best.

Tried to book a table but told not serving food until after the New Year. I thought places were struggling and it seems strange to turn custom away.

we had our reception at this centrally placed pub in holsworthy and it was a great deal. they have a ramp onsite to assist disabled people and its a very warm friendly pub weather just for a pint or a good meal

We stayed for two nights for a wedding. Jill and Ashley were very friendly. We booked three rooms. They were spotlessly clean. We had cooked breakfast on the first day. Toast and cereal on the second. Really good value for money.

My daughter and I booked in for 3 nights and from start to finish everything was perfect. Room spotlessly clean, bathroom and shower well stocked. Breakfast was lovely and large mugs of tea and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble and Ashley and Jill are truly a lovely couple. If in Holsworthy stay here and you wont regret it.

My wife and I called in on the off chance for an evening meal on Tuesday 28th September 2021 I order the Fish and Chips with mushey peas & my wife ordered the chicken burger with chips and salad. The meals were beautiful presented and the portions were ample. My fish and chips were lovely and crisp and dry with no dripping fat, very fresh and cooked to perfection, my wife’s meal was very tasty and she would also recommend the food here. If you are close by call in, you won’t be disappointed. Martin & Sue

I stayed one night at the Kings Arms. The bedroom was very clean and tidy if slightly crowded for the size - but then it is an old building and all the better for it! I had a very comfortable night's sleep with no noise from the pub below. Dinner was typical pub food (no complaints there) but the sausage at breakfast was full of flavour - worth staying here for that alone. Apparently made by a local butchers.

Absolutely brilliant stay for one night. Incredibly clean absolutely spotless in room. Lovely breakfast with local good quality produce. Would definitely stay again.

This pub is old school the hosts Gill and Asley are friendly helpful and run a proper pub for the locals and have a good pub bar menu if your filling peckish they also do B&B and they are right in the middle of the small town of Holsworthy which is in shooting distance to many outstanding local places and especially beaches .

After a busy day out whist holidaying nearby, my friend and I went to The Kings Arms. We were given a very warm welcome by Jill and Ashley. They were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was freshly cooked and the salad was fresh and crunchy. It was delicious. I had a “Jill special” gin and I would highly recommend it!

I stayed last weekend whilst in the area for a wedding. As a single female traveler it's always a bit more challenging, but the team at the hotel were fantastic. They made me so welcome, I had drinks in the bar with them and their friends on the Friday night, the room was comfortable and the shower was great and the breakfast each morning was excellent and the served proper big mugs of tea!! Lovely place to stay.

We were out and about and popped in to get lunch. The owner/ landlady was so friendly. Put water in a bowl for the dog. Food wasn't been served because of the present situation, she very kindly said we could order food from a cafe nearby. Lovely building and friendly feeling t it

Comfortable and quiet, Jill and Ashley are excellent hosts, couldn't have done more, great price which included full English breakfast, all amenities in the room, nothing was too much trouble..

Stayed for a night in a twin room a couple of days ago. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Room was quite small but great value and nicely done up with good decor and facilities were great .... a coffee machine with coffee pods which is a nice touch and certainly did not expect that, a good selection of teas, lots of hangers, hair dryer, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, shelf for putting things on. Town centre location but the best thing was the breakfast ! It was a really well cooked, clean and tasty. Egg was perfectly cooked and the special sausages they have made by the butchers across the road are excellent ! Thank you to for popping across the road to check for ingredients for me when I enquired. Oh ! And the tea was the best I've had for years ! Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed for two nights to make our holiday in Cornwall last a little longer, very nice hosts who allowed us early access to the room and sorted storage for our bikes. Room very comfortable and the breakfast was fabulous all round great place to stay.

We were looking to eat and everywhere was booked up but the Kings Arms allowed us to go and get take away food and eat inside. Track and trace in place as well.

As we wandered from the carpark archway, we were looking for somewhere for lunch.We asked a local lady and she said go to the King's Arms, I'm the cook, I'll be back there in a couple of minutes. We ordered a sandwich selection and pot of tea, which was delivered ion no time at all. Bit chilly outside, so the fire was going to keep us cosy. Centrally placed in the town square, it has a fair bit of history and we felt it was a very ;pleasant spot for a midday snack. This all pre-Covid.

Very basic fish and chips but nothing to rave about. Good friendly service, and a good beer selection.

Stayed in Holsworthy for 4 nights (6th-10th October).Neat and tidy small town which was handy location for visiting family in the area. Kings Arms was clean and comfortable and we were warmly welcomed and looked after by Kim and Ashley, the proprieters.The evening meal facility was not used by us but we enjoyed a nice couple of drinks in the bar each evening and the breakfast was fully satisfactory.

A quick visit to Holsworthy for some shopping and we discovered this absolute GEM in the town centre. Very welcoming pub and some lovely food! Generous portions and fairly priced, honestly couldn’t fault it. Will certainly be back!!

Ate here whilst on holiday it was my favourite place to eat.The people at the bar were so welcoming. The pub had a lovely feel to it very clean and modern. I had the lamb shank with vegetables, mashed potato and mint gravy and my husband had the ribs they were both large portions and very tasty. Excellent value

Was so upset about the old market inn we decided to walk up the road the The kings Arms, was pleasantly surprised about the cleanliness and service which was to offer. 10/10. Highly recommend

booked a table for the family,including our German shepherd,,when we arrived the landlord and land lady were very welcoming and friendly even with our dog being a little vocal and excited,she has never been out to a pub for dinner before...we had been put at a table that was in the corner..but it was ideal, plenty of room for us and our dog,,,the menu is pub grub and not too many items,,so you do not get overwhelmed with the choices,but a good wide range to suit most tastes....when the food arrived it was hot and that is always a good sign that it has not been sat waiting in the kitchen...the portion sizes are very good and great value for the price.....my wife had the scampi and chips which comes with a choice of peas or salad,,,one of the boys had the chicken nuggets and chips...he struggled to finish his ,and he can eat for the nation,and then the ribs arrived.. both myself and our other son ordered this dish,,,wow what a great rack of ribs ,soft tender and very tasty..plenty of chips and salad and a side of extra sauce each too.....while this is pub grub the staff take the time to make sure its hot and well presented,,and with the ribs they give you a bowl in which to place the discarded bones,so they are off the plate and out of the way,,,,along with a finger bowl too....the whole meal was a delight...not fine dinning but honest good food at a great price, all of this plus two rounds of drinks for just under £56.00p...bargain....so if your the area do go in and give yourself a great meal at great prices...well done to the team at the kings arms we will be telling everyone to ay a visit...excellent..

Jill and Ashley are lovely people who make you feel very welcome. Nothing is too much trouble and the food is freshly prepared and delicious. Brilliant atmosphere! A real homely feel!

Jill & Ashley are such a lovely, friendly couple this also shows in the upkeep of the pub and accommodation. The accomedation was really clean and beds were comfortable. They've thought about every fine detail and added some lovely personalble touches from a little mug in bedroom for our daughter, teddys on her bed, toiletries and welcoming messages. We didn't have a small child but the room was fully equipped with a travel cot, bouncer & wipes.

We spent a long weekend visiting Holsworthy staying at The Kings Arms in the centre of this North Devon market town. The hotel is run by a friendly couple, Ashley and Jill and comprises of three letting rooms a bar/dining room and unusually a tanning salon; which seemed to be extremely popular with the towns younger generation.

This is a old style pub, with a basic pub menu with real quality food. Was not sure when we walked in but delighted we stayed. Made to feel very welcome, food came in good time, well presented and delicious. Well done would recommend

We were staying just outside Holsworthy at a friends house, and wanted to find a place to eat and have a few drinks within walking distance. We called at this pub at lunch time to see what it was like and have a drink. And decided to go back the following evening for a meal. Glad we did the couple who own the pub were very welcoming and the meal we had (Curries Madras and Tikka) chips and rice were more than enough and delicious. We will definitely return on our next visit to Holsworthy.

We were staying near Holsworthy, and wanted somewhere we could walk to/from for a pint and food. We chose the Kings Arms as it is dog friendly and serves food all day. The couple serving behind the bar were really friendly, as we chose our drinks and browsed the food menu. Our group of four adults chose 1/2 roast chicken from the menu. The food portions were generous and very good value. Our dog was offered a ‘treat’ and water bowl.

A very welcoming good old fashioned pub. Good quality food at very reasonable prices and good beer served by very good hosts. We will be back before we go home!

Myself and a group of 12 spent England's entire world cup run at the Kings Arms, with perfect facilities and HD screen for a 'louder' bunch and a quieter side room for families to peacefully enjoy the game. We ate their on multiple occasions and the food never disappointed and great value for money.

We stayed here in a Friday night and can honestly say that for the host's Jill and Ashley , nothing was too much trouble. I am allergic to caffeine and theanine and so must drink caffeine free. There was none in my room but immediately after asking for some they went straight out and bought me my own pot is decaff coffee. They are so welcoming and friendly and the food, good honest pub food, huge portions and drinks were refreshingly reasonably priced!! The wife loved her pink gin with frozen berries!!

Booked for two nights accommodation and was very impressed ; rooms a clean and fresh and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced ..... the main asset of this place though is the welcome and Bon Homie of the landlord and land lady who make you feel right at home

Thank you Jill & Ashley for your hospitality last night. Having attended a meeting in town, a friend & I retired to the King's Arms for refreshment. Even though it was well past 9 pm, they were happy to serve us their excellent ham, egg & chips. Delicious as usual!

Staying at Bundu decided to go for drive ended up in hulsworthy found the kings arms,well what a nice place owners ever so friendly said we wanted food looked at menus me my wife and my 2 sons chose meals when they came wow they were well presented and were absolutely lovely best pub food I have tasted for a while.definitely would go back when we are next in the area.

We were driving back from Cornwall and decided to stop off in Holsworthy for lunch. This pub is in the centre of the small town. Parking right outside. I popped in to make sure we could take our spaniel in. Absolutely ! The landlord was very friendly. He came over with a water bowl for Ruby and a treat or two which she enjoyed ! My husband had a pint of ale and I had a soft drink. We ordered ham egg and chips and lamb shank. My lamb shank in red wine and rosemary sauce was very nice. My husbands ham egg and chips was plentiful and tasted good. After we had paid I asked the landlord whether his rooms upstairs were dog friendly. We plan to come back to the area to holiday and it is helpful to have a nice place to stay. His three rooms were very clean and well appointed. Nice and airy. We would go back to this place.

We stayed for New Years what a lovely pub and the owners very welcoming and good service with good food. The family room is a good size with large bathroom, overlooks a busy road but a good place to stay to explore the area. Only one small thing that would have made a perfect stay no breakfast available on the morning we left!

We came on a visit to see a relative and decided to have lunch here .food was excellent so was the service .We sat by a open fire it was very clean environment and cosy well worth a visit Sadly it won't let me click the 5 stars on all the 3 questions .

We visit this lovely little pub every time we go to Bideford and are never disappointed. Despite being in the middle of refurbishments this time, they made us very welcome and the food was excellent as always.

We stayed overnight in Kings Arms in June, 2016, and found the recently-renovated 2-bed room to be very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Jill and Ashley made us feel very welcome. Good service, good breakfast, reasonable price and easy access. A little busy on the road outside our window, but other than that, a great place to stay when visiting Holsworthy.

We booked our stay here from thursday till sunday. Unfortunately we had to leave the saturday morning due to work. but from our arrival Jill and Ashley were every so welcoming. The room that we were given was clean spacious and peacefully quiet. we were told on arrival about breakfast which could be brought to our room or we could go down at 9:30 am for a full English (which was amazing and had everyday that we were there, jill also informed us that if we planned to go out early in the morning then she could make us a packed lunch if we wanted. we were given our own keys to get in. We were there for a wedding and after a attending the church we had to make our way to the reception which was about 1 mile away but due to there being only 1 taxi company in holsworthy and a lot of us attending the reception. Ashley offered to take us to the reception. Which was so kind as he did not have to do this at all. This is such a lovely place to stay and would definitely stay here again if i ever came back. Jill and Ashley went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and its unbelievable that they have only been there just over a year.

It's great to drop in for a drink and a chat. I make a point of taking a cider there whenever I visit my friend in Holsworthy (sadly that's only once a year). The staff are so welcoming.

Ashley & jill are most welcoming, they have made this pub into a smashing place to socialise & your guaranteed a good laugh. They serve great food and do a lovely sunday roast, They also do b&b and have a tanning room, Im a bit biased as im a local but true fully its one of the best

We stopped off for lunch in Holsworthy on our journey to Cornwall, and stumbled upon this rather quaint little pub. The building itself is absolutely wonderful, and we found the owners to be more than accommodating. The food was absolutely gorgeous, and very reasonably priced. There was so much of it on my plate, that I had trouble finishing it all. I especially loved the way the homemade chips were presented in a kind of mini frying basket, I thought this was a really nice touch. I would definitely eat here again, I really enjoyed the vibe and loved the food.

My wife and I booked here for dinner last week and each had the fish & chips which was extremely flavoursome. crispy batter, home-made chips and mushy peas (from split peas I think) served on a wooden platter with the chips in a mini deep-fat fryer basket. Could not be faulted and accompanied by a very pleasant, inexpensive wine. Good portion size. Very friendly owners, nothing too much trouble. If there is a criticism it is that the scope to take the food offering 'up market' (should they wish too) isn't there as the pub is, essentially, one large room (unless there is another that I did not see) so no where to create a 'restaurant' This is the structure so this lat sentence is not intended as a negative and is definitely no reflection on the food but not the ambience for intimate dining.

I visited with my partner and 2 young children on Sunday evening. The interior is absolutely gorgeous & although quite modern it still retains its olde world charm.The service was fast & very friendly & the menu though not huge was varied and hold value for money.We thoroughly enjoyed out meals and will definitely be visiting again

Very good friendly service. Lovely fish and chips with great presentation on wooden plates. Big open quiet pub with two log fires burning. Just right for a rainy grey Friday lunchtime in February. Nice pint of Doombar bitter to wash it down with. We will be returning.

Having found the Kings Arms closed on the Monday, we fortunately noticed it was open when we went to the Holsworthy Market on the Wednesday. Food and drink were good and mine hosts very pleasant and welcoming.

Pub décor basic but clean. No loud music, but easy listening in back ground. Had roast dinner, excellent. Plenty of it. Very hot. Fresh vegetables, and lovely roast potatoes. Highly recommended. Would certainly return.

5 of us popped in here while on holiday. It was windy and raining outside and we were glad of the roaring log fire to dry off. We were greeted very warmly by the landlord and locals alike. We had lunch there which was very well presented a reasonable price and served in good time. All enjoyed our meals which were of good portions and tasty. All in all a friendly place clean and a pub well worth a visit

Brilliant evening. Jill and Ashley made it feel really Christmassy for us.We chose to eat off the main menu but we were offered a Christmas menu if we wanted. The food was excellent and there was plenty.The atmosphere was warm and welcoming.I would definitely recommend a visit.

me and the wife stopped in Holsworthy on our way back to woodford bridge to a have a meal. we have in the kings arms before lovely food them but this time there are new people running it. To eat my wife had tuna and mayo jacket with salad, I had ham egg and chips and it was excellent I had 4 slices of ham 2 eggs and chips never had that much before. The hosts Ashley and Jill were lovely and helpful.

Stopped at the Kings Arms a couple of days ago for a drink and decided to have a look at the menu. The owners Ash and Jill have a good selection on theri menu with arond a dozen different dishes to choose from. I had the rack of ribs and my wife the half chicken, the meals didn't take long to come out and they looked great on their wooden plates and the chips presented in a small wire chip basket. Both meals were delicious and very filling and of a good size, will definitely be going back for more bar meals.Their Sunday roast are very good value too, and you get a free desert with your roast. The owners Ash and Jill are very friendly and provide a great service to all of their customers calling most of them by their first names which is a nice touch.

Ashley and Jill are the perfect hosts and will always do whatever it takes to make your visit welcome. Whether you just want a couple of drinks or a full meal you will not be dissapointed. 10/10

We were on our way to Barnstaple and decided to stop in Holsworthy for some lunch. We decided to try The Kings Arms - and wern't disappointed. We both ordered ham, egg and chips, and a drink. The pub is very light and airy, and Ashley and Jill were extremely friendly and welcoming. We got talking and established they were from Cornwall and knew people I did!! When the food came out I was delighted - it looked lovely - and was!! The chips were fantastic, lovely ham and runny eggs all in a wooden plate! I'm a word 'lush'!! One of the best ham, egg and chips I've ever had, and only £6.95. Ashley showed us around the rooms which are on the process of being decorated, very clean and Jill has added some amazing personal touches - well worth a visit and stay. And they also have a tanning area. So glad we stopped there. Keep up the fab work and hope to see you again soon!!

Moved to Holsworthy very recently and visited Kings Arms last week for an early evening drink. We were made very welcome by owners Ashley and Jill as well as several locals. Returned to the Kings this evening for an evening meal. Since moving here we have tried all pubs, restaurants and take-aways but the meal we have had tonight was without doubt the best we have had since arriving here. The preparation, cooking and presentation was simply superb, Ashley and Jill made sure the service was second to none and I am looking forward to my next meal there! Well done and Thank You.

Wow big fish and chips yum yum. Easily the best fish and chips I have ever had. Gorgeous batter on a huge fish and the crispy chips were to die for...also huge..hehe....excellent cider to go with it. Landlord and lady very friendly, attentive and having fun too. That can really be seen in quality of their nosh and the presentation of a newly fitted out modern bar and letting ensuite bedrooms (all crisp like the fish and chips!). The pub itself is the only one left in Holsworthy's main square and is steeped in history (illustrated by the photos in the open plan bar area). Holsworthy's cattle market was in the square for hundreds of years, farmers and traders dealing in the bars surrounding it. I nip in for Sunday lunch which is served quickly even without a reserved table. needless to say the roasties are a knock out also.

Big discovery for me - the Kings Arms has steak and kidney pudding! The food is all cooked in the pub by the co-owner and is good solid English pub food. That is, lots of lamb and steak plus chicken tikka and korma. And genuine suet puddings. The steak and kidney tasted just as good as I remembered, although I had forgotten just how filling it could be.The atmosphere was very friendly and lots of local chatting. Great!

Visited twice in our weeks stay in Devon. Was a lovely cosy pub with great home cooked food, the specials board changed each visit so there was always lots of choice. Avoid disappointment and book a table in advance as it got very busy. Had a very nice family meal and its a nice touch you can take your dogs!

Only popped in for a quick drink. we were made to feel extremely welcome. We had our puppy with us and he was given a treat by the landlord. Place was spotless and beer was excellent.

We were staying in North Cornwall for our holiday and spent the day out in the south of the county. We were having a long journey back to our cottage and decided to look for somewhere to eat and drink in Holsworthy, around 6pm. By chance, we came across The Kings Arms in the town centre. What a lovely, warm welcome we received! It is a delightful pub, olde worlde on the outside with a bright and warm interior. We received a fabulous welcome from the owners Gill and Ashley and nothing was too much trouble. The pub is dog friendly and Ashley came out to give our dog a personal welcome fuss and a treat. Ashley even came out to check that the water bowl was filled up for our dog. The furnishings in the pub itself were in keeping with the interior and very comfortable, cheery and clean. We were shown to a table (let me say here that everything was clean and clearly very cared for) and Gill and Ashley remained attentive at all times. The menu choice was varied and we all tucked into some excellent food. Three of us had ham, egg and chips, two others BBQ ribs and chips (you could also get curry options, chicken options amongst other choices). Uncomplicated food you may say but when the plates came out, we were very happy indeed. Well presented and well cooked food. We enjoyed the food tremendously! The chips were excellent and the ham very tasty indeed - it came with a mustard pot, which was very powerful but complimented the ham very well. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the ribs. But what was really lovely was the fact just before serving the food, Ashley came and asked us if we had any particular requirements for sauces and condiments, which came in a small glazed pot. He then came out with a bowl of warm water for those with the ribs to use to clean their fingers and another bowl for the rib bones. Very attentive, genuinely caring and very thoughtful. Ashley and Gill came over during our meal to check that we were satisfied and whether we needed anything else. The pub served local ales and a range of lagers - I really enjoyed the Devon ale - clear, refreshing and well cared for. In all, we wish we had found this pub earlier in our stay and we wished we could have stayed longer. If you are in and around Holsworthy, then you must pop in to The Kings Arms. It is a truly delightful pub with genuinely caring and attentive publicans who really welcome you and look after you!

What a fantastic pub. The staff and owners are so polite and helpful, the food is superb, the patrons are very friendly and make you feel at home. There also seems to be plenty of varied entertainment. All in all a great place to go. I will definately be back again.

Spent a lovely night at The Kings Arms with owners Ashley and Gill Tallon who are wonderful friendly people nothing is to much trouble for them both, in a great little market town in Holsworthy,in Devon, nr Bude. Fantastic food fantastic room, bed was so comfy we slept like logs,felt so refreshed in the morning ready for breakfast. Lovely and clean right in the centre of town . We had Fish and Chips to die for cooked with Gill's special home made batter which was really smashing . So if your near by call in and book your room or dinner, you will not be disappointed . Well, after searching for food in about three or four pubs in the local area in the deadzone between 2 pm and 6pm, we were treated to the most wonderful Chicken and Chips by a most helpful host. I would heartily recommend. And super friendly for our two dogs. If you're in Holsworthy, check it out. Great stuff!

This afternoon near the end of a long drive from a resort near Holsworthy, two tired and very hungry Yank tourists from the States enter your door, looking for dinner. You tell us that you opened, with new management on Friday (5 days ago) and the kitchen is not yet in operation. It's a nice place, right on the town square. Sign in front says "Food" but there is no kitchen. You might have told us, "Sorry" and that we were out of look. I know it's a drag to turn away potential customers. I looked around and at 6pm the place was empty. But you did a kind and generous thing. You recommended that we try a restaurant down the street, adding that it was very good. I wished you "Good Luck" when my wife and I left. We followed your advice and had a great meal. Thank you! Sometimes kindness is better than a meal. And, I hope to send you some business with this review.

We turned up here at around 8.30pm after a long drive, there was us and our teenage son and nephew we asked if they were still serving food and they had just stopped however the landlord still invited us to order, we were the only ones in the dining room but didn't feel awkward the staff were fantastic the food was quick and very good, we were all starving so many thanks to the landlord for allowing us to order. Very friendly

Nice clean friendly place which found on default,Food choice was limited but every thing we ordered arrived swiftly served nice and hot and tasty.Excellent value for money don't expect gastro style food but if you are hungry and looking for good value pub grub and a couple of drinks would recommend.

Had lunch here back in February. Fish, chips and peas. Excellent value for money, cheaper than the local fish and chip shop and twice as nice.

We had a lovely meal here - the food tasted freshly prepared. The staff were very friendly and welcoming as were the other few customers in there. It was very quiet though. Service was great. Limited choice menu. Homely place with homely food at very reasonable prices. We would go again.
