Kingfisher fish chips shop in Portsmouth

Went there at half 9 and the place was closed…….. so much for open every day until 10pm

Well reviewed this shop on my way down from the Midlands to do a promotional run for an event I'm booked May 9th , anyway ...mannerism, politeness from the staff & of course the food all 5 star , will be back again

Expensive place don't take card either.. food wasn't fresh

To be honest, I was wondering if it would still be warm, but it was as if I had just picked it up myself! I would definitely use them again. Very good🙂

Nice fish and chips however the kids meals seem to have shrunk - but prices have stayed the same! Last time I ordered there were a lot more chips in a box. Now only a few on trays. Overall quality is good but expensive for the portion size I’m afraid 😞

We ordered via uber and chose pick up whilst we were in the restaurant. Throughout our wait the cook was slamming everything around in the kitchen. When it went 15 mins past our pick up time (35 mins) I asked how long our food would be, we could see our fish was cooked sat in a box but nothing else. He said to himself that he forgot to start cooking the rest. We had spent £95 on this order. We then waited an additional 35 mins during that time we had to tell him to put our sausages on as he forgot. 2 other drivers and another customer came in during this time and couldn’t believe how the cook was acting. He continued to throw stuff around muttering to himself but would not tell us what was going on with the order when we repeatedly asked him. He was half packing bits and leaving chips in the box open for ages. In the end my husband ended up packing everything in the bag as the cook was frantic walking back and forward. We have never experienced service like this before here and would like to speak with the manager about our experience. By the time got the food home most of it was cold and soggy. The whole experience and the ridiculous amount of time we were left waiting (with children) left us unable to eat the food. We believe the cook should not have been in work today. If he was to have communicated with us and apologised then this review would have been different but he didn’t speak to us and was just slamming things around and when packing our food he was throwing things in the boxes not caring at all. We understand people have bad days but the way he acted and the food we were left with was awful and we paid nearly £100 for it.

I have been coming to this chip shop for a very long time and I have never had a problem with the quality of the food. It’s freshly cooked, the portions are very generous and are very good value for money.

The food was dry and horrible and would not be going bk there ever as it has gone right down hill

Had a lovely time at Kingfisher, Wissam the owner was so lovely and helpful, and the fish was cooked to perfection, not too oily and perfectly crispy! Highly recommend the Plaice and the chips hit the spot too. Perfect Saturday lunch looking at the beautiful stained glass door <3

The cooked fish we were served was off and smelly. Charged £25 for the rubbish that we were given. Not happy at all! Do not recommend it at all. Stay away if interested in your health.

Chips are totally different place has gone downhill. Dry soggy chips. And overpriced! Staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there either. Used to be lovely fish and chips. Don’t waste your money

Called into on a wet evening for food before a concert, everything cooked fresh and they said we could sit down and eat inside, very good and friendly staff

Missing an item i had paid for - portion of mushy peas. Shame as the food quality is high, sadly so are the prices. But it was disappointing to have a missing item especially as mushy peas was very hard to share out portions.

Over cooked chips dog didn’t even eat them

the scampi was a bit over done and it was a bit expensive but it was OK.

Chips were lovely, fish also very nice, but ordered a chicken burger and chips to get home to find a quarter rotisserie chicken and chips !! Chicken was tough, dry and inedible. Dispite asking 3 times for a CHICKEN BURGER, they still managed to screw the order up !! They dont take cards and the closest ATM charges £1.75 per transaction. Easier to walk to the Coop to use their ATM. Next time, i will check the order before leaving the premises!!

Food was good except one portion was missing the salt and vinegar

Walked all the way to the chip shop and it wasn't open! Despite saying on the door opens at 11:30! This was 12:15.

Not nice at all. We paid £17.70 for large chips 3 small sausages and 3 cans of coke, chips weren't cooked it was hard and crunchy (raw)

The delivery time continually changed from 30mins when ordered to 1 hour 40mins should have said this however the food was fresh and hot

Very expensive, £35.00 for 1x small fish and chips and 1x medium fish and chips, although can’t comment on the food, went in on a Sunday, won’t take card at all. Drove to 5 cash points on Albert Road all out of order, told lady behind counter she still refuser card, which is ridiculous that they can’t take card in 2024, can only imagine why…ended up without dinner wouldn’t accept any other payment.

No issues with the food but the delivery driver knocked on the door and by the time I opened the door 3 seconds later he had left the food on top of the recycling bin and was already walking away to his vehicle. 1/10 effort for customer service on his part. If I had not heard the door knock the food would have been left outside

added salt and vinegar when was asked not to, said they would correct it and send out plchips with no salt or vinegar -did not do that. usually good but this was poor.

Ordered 2 x fish cake and chips, 2 x sausage & chips was asked for upwards of £35 (Must contain gold leaf) we questioned it and was told it was because we were sitting in the restaurant, was then promptly told they do not accept cards and we would need to go and get cash from the ATM - didn't bother and left to go elsewhere

not happy with the order ordered two small chips got the chips which were recooked and order two jumbo battery sausages which we.never got we. will not ordering from there again

Ordered Cod and Chips from this place a while ago. Good quality fish and chips here and probably better than a lot of other places in Portsmouth but it's a little on the expensive side of things. Cod was fresh but quite greasy. Chips were quite good and you do get a decent portion. If you are willing to spend the extra, visit this place as they are definitely one of the better ones I have had around Portsmouth.

Lovely food and when I called to check the food was on the way, as I’d already had an order not turn up from elsewhere tonight, they were so helpful and lovely, unlike the previous place who had not wanted to know and just told me to ring Just Eat. The food arrived quickly and hot. I will definitely be ordering again!

After a 6 hour journey from Yorkshire, there was nothing more I wanted. I googled gluten free fish and chips Portsmouth, and hey presto “kingfisher fish and chips Southsea”. To get gluten free fish and chips is one thing, to find it entirely gluten free was an extra bonus. Reasonably priced, a big box of scraps all to myself! I wish I had got a photo before I started eating, but I forgot in the excitement. What better way to eat than on Clarence esplanade at Southsea watching the hovercraft come in and ferries leaving. Would absolutely recommend!…. Which I had done to family that live near by at Waterlooville.

Ate here Saturday night after football. The fish and chips were excellent. Want very goof fish and chips then eat here.

I ordered cod, chips and mushy peas to eat in, and it was all excellent. Good sized portion and nicely cooked. The owner was very friendly and had time for a chat. I recommend trying Kingfisher fish and chips. I will definitely be back.

the fish & chips was cold, had to put it in the microwave before it could be eaten. The batter on the sausage was very hard

One meal allowed us to ask for salt n vinegar the other didn’t so came plain same with the burger no salad or sauce on it but no option to choose

Perfect , fresh cooked. Everywhere else local had an hour wait and we were off to the Kings, so here was Perfect. Friendly service. Had chips and mushy peas, huge portion. Very full belly.

DO NOT ORDER. Waited 2 hours watching "preparing order" phoned several times and then got told there was no driver and they would cancel order. Ordered elsewhere as direcred to by kingfisher and guess what turned up 40 mins later...yep the order. Double charged. Not worth it at all. Poor service and rubbish food. Go elsewhere.

I'm not sure what's changed since my last visit, but the fish and chips I had from here recently weren't as good as they used to be. The chips were almost anaemic and the fish was over battered. Hopefully it was just a one off...

Food was good. The only thing i found it desapointing was that all was packed inside of a box. Chips sausage and curry sauce. Logically the quantity wasn't what was supposed to be.

Probably the worst chips I’ve ever had bought a kids meal for my granddaughter they are so hard she can’t even bite into them stale and solid been all around the world and uk …..never experienced food like this

Very Disappointed with the chips, not very nice. The fish cakes were very good. The back yard and toilets not nice very dated, and quite dirty. The yard needs a good tidy up and clean. Also cash only which wasn't very convenient

This is the 3rd time I’ve ordered salt and vinegar to be put on the chips and battered sausages have arrived instead of plain ones. I will not be ordering again, which is a shame because it a good chippy but constantly get orders wrong

Not worth it for the money . £10.90 for scampi that was overbooked and the size of a pea covered in breadcrumbs, curry sauce had some unknown lump looked like skin. Will not be ordering from here again. Too expensive for what you receive

Driver was rude to me. He rang from outside my house and asked me to come outside to collect the food. I did and when I said do you not deliver to the door he said we always ask people to meet us outside. I’ve never been asked that before

What a load of rubbish think the chips where warmed up from the day before .. the order was even wrong ..peas in pots in the fridge and microwaved ..avoid if you possibly can ..worste I've ever bought

Very nice as always. Better to eat in or phone shop directly for delivery. DO NOT use the other app delivery services as they ad £1 to evary item you buy so a family of 4 will cost you and extra £10 plus the extra they already put on.

Food delivered hot by polite driver

Driver turned up, looked around, drove away. A while later it showed that my food had been delivered so I called the restaurant, they called the driver, he came back, didn’t ring my buzzer so more delay. Food was cold as a result of a rude and lazy driver

We ordered a pie and chips and haddock and chips. They bagged up the fish and chips and handed it over. We only realised when we got home that half the order was missing. They did not pick up our calls, though the shop was still open according to published times. My husband has run back to sort out the issue and they have closed early!!! Utterly disgusted that a business can be so casual about its customer base. With businesses trying to survive at the moment, I hardly think this one is worthy of our concern.

Just ordered pie & chips, saveloy x 2 & large chips battered mushrooms which were actually breaded £31.80 absolutely disgusting never again will I order from there waste of money! Chips dry looked like we got the dregs,pie wasn’t hot, Saveloys were over cooked not happy 😡

The chips were mostly the thin crispy bits and they come without salt and vinegar which is what I ordered. The fish had more batter than fish and the pie was soggy. Dinner ruined, won’t be ordering from here again
