I was lookin g forward to seeing the pub now it has been refurbished so we booked for lunch on the 17th . I ordered Sunday lunch it was very sparse as for seasonal veg one spring of kale not cooked that was it and a few roasted carrots and roast potatoes, I questioned this with a member of staff and the reply was that's how it comes. When the. Meal arrived wasn't asked if I wanted any sauces . As for staff you can't really tell them apart from the punters .

Been drinking here for a while now, and can not fault the place or the staff. Such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where Sam & the team will go out of their way to accommodate you. Not sure if it's a good thing that my drink is generally poured before I even get to the bar but a mark of how good the service is. Great in Summer to able to sit on the decking and look out over the fields too. Would strongly recommend the King William.

We went here as a family of seven. Two adults and five children. The food was awful. Two tuna baguettes were dry and the filling was just plain dry tuna only half of these were eaten. The chips were hard. My niece had sausage and chips. The plate was swimming in grease. Even the baked beans needed arm band. My sons chicken wrap was just that. No salad and the wrap was soggy and turned into paste. Despite the food being bad the service was even worse. We politely asked to speak to the manager and was met by a young man who huffed and puffed his way into the building. He then came out and told us they would only offer us 20% off we politely declined this deal as some meals weren't even touched. The land lady came over all bold, aggressive and confrontational. It was incredibly uncomfortable and we were made to feel as though we had done something wrong. The chef also came out and was confrontational to start with. Once we explained our situation he apologised. He said he could see our point of view and even agreed that the baguettes were dry. He said he would speak to the manager again as she had walked away from our table. This became incredibly akward as she then could be heard shouting at him and talking about us in the main bar where other customers were sat. This was awfully uncomfortable and we decided to pay our bills regardless. Absolutely awful service. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a "restaurant" I appreciate that this industry as of late has hit some really hard time. But haven't we all. When you save up to take the family out as a treat you dont expect to be treated like this.

As my mother lived nearby, we were regular visitors to this hidden little pub. I recall playing pool there 20 years ago and eating there on many previous occasions. Since then there has been plenty of work carried out and the pub has changed significantly. We last ate there about 6 years ago and it was a very average food experience. We revisited recently and enjoyed drinks, the place was fairly busy with plenty of diners and service whilst a little slow, was friendly. The King William has rooms and is ideal for holiday makers as it is a 5 minutes drive to the airport. Visited January 2020.

The staff are polite, the food is served in a timely fashion, served hot. Good selection of drinks. I can see what has happened with the establishment on a whole. At some time the owners (whoever they were at the tome) have thought ‘we could make a quick few quid by converting a few rooms into a hotel’ and that’s the problem right there! They just want a few quick quid. The hotel is not good at all - see my review and pictures on the hotels part of trip advisor

My family and I visited the 16th century King William 1V pub/restaurant in Bedford at lunch time on November 9th, 2017. Our main meals were very good, the steak and Stilton pie was very tasty, and good value. I had a Brookie for my dessert, (a circular brownie with a crunchy exterior and soft gooey interior) which was scrumptious! The Eagle bitter beer was excellent too. Adequate car parking. Great service and polite, helpful staff. Couldn't be better. I'd definately recommend this pub to tourists. Only complaint; not much on the dessert menu that was gluten free (for my wife).

The staff were amazing and made sure we were happy, drinks flowed and the family Get together was amazing. Highly recommend for family dinners or even a quiet romantic dinner.

What a bargain of a single night's stay in a double room for when we visited friends near Hitchin. Knew it could be basic as it was so cheap but also included a simple breakfast of cereals, toast, Danish pastry, fruit and juice. So not surprised it was a bit tight for space in room and bathroom. However, most importantly, it was sparkling clean! Comfy bed too, spoilt only by some light coming through the skylight, (I can't cope with the smallest chink) which we managed to block with a black bin liner. I was told on my comment about this that new blinds are on order, and that this old wing is actually due for refurbishment soon anyway, when the new wing opens. I can't wait to come back then and try that too. After eating our deliciously cooked meals in the evening, from their '2 for £10' special, Monday to Friday offer, we joined in the pub quiz with the locals, all in the downstairs, beautifully redecorated old pub bar and restaurant. This family run lovely free house it also perfectly located for Luton airport. We will definitely return, now we know about them.

This place has changed the food is amazing, decor refreshed and so relaxing, the staff can't do enough to make you welcome. Tonight we went for dinner which has improved loads, home made chips, home made burgers, great choice In drinks with loads of advice on the ales and ciders on offer. I realise that this review is basically for the restaurant but having previously used this pub/hotel as a stopping place before flying from Luton 4 years ago, finding it an acceptable experience, I decided to give it another go.What is my review of it now starting with the accomodation: Well as a child I was told If you can’t say something nice about anything say nothing at at. So in placing this review I will say nothingA little advice I have given on previous reports to owners. Every once in a while stay overnight in your own accommodation, get exactly the same experience that you guests get. If you are a happy then so should your guest be. I know it’s a cut throat business but if you need to raise your prices slight to cover fresh expenditure, then do so, don’t leave things as they are.As for the restaurant, the basic menu is fine prices are reasonable,There is a specials board with similar items at similar prices, and Mon to Fri you can have two of these for £!0. Now if you compare the menu to the specials on a Saturday when prices almost match, then you will have thought they were the same, how wrong you are. If what we received was the same as we would get on a Saturday when the two for £10 was not available, I would lose it. Items that come with three addition side orders on the menu dont on the specials. Chips are hand cut on the menu, but become French Fries when you use the specials, the difference in price is 0p to 75p. Finally the items are all pre produced, or bought in these are then as in a lot of places prepared by a Chef/Cook who smokes like a trooper in all her Chef gear, My meal was taken from the freezer popped in the oven put on the plate and served. It is a pity that a cooking thermometer was not used to check if the food was hot, because it was not

My partner and I visited the King William for the second time having had a pleasant experience in the restaurant previously. We had a couple of nice beers - the Doombar was particularly good. My partner had the fish and chips which was excellent, however I ordered a ground beef burrito, with black beans and a salad plus opted to have the optional char grilled steak also.....what turned up was a cut up steak wrapped with salad in a double skinned dry tortilla. We mentioned that there was no black beans or ground beef and the waitress went to check with the chef - she then announced that the chef had put the ground beef in the "burrito" so I invited her to find it pointing out that I merely had a steak with hot wilted salad, the reply was to raise her hands and repeat that the chef said he put the other ingredients in. I sarcastically apologised for my partner and I being blind and said I would never eat there again. Which I won't. I actually found the experience quite patronising and rude to be honest.

Went Sunday 13th March for the first time this year and it looks like the Public House is under new management or ownership as they no longer do a carvery on Sundays. The Public House was a lot busier than the previous times we have been and they still serve a couple of real ales, but the food is only OK to be honest. I will continue to walk over to this Public House for the occasional Sunday meal as I still like it and is local to me but they have to improve on the food to bring in non locals. It was extremely noisy on Sunday, so perhaps if you want a quiet Sunday meal this is not for you. I like it lively......Special mention to the bar man, he is always very efficient.

Visited recently to take advantage of Gourmet Society 50% discount. Pretty ropey pub with lots of loud, beery young blokes Smoking and swearing by the entrance. Dingy and very dated inside, but the waitress was superb. Clearly rushed off her feet, she was really chatty and couldn't do enough for us. Food was a mixed bag. The 16oz sirloin came in 2 bits (?!) and was not rare as had been requested. Pretty tough and chewy. The meat pie was much better. Rather anaemic chips and only peas and sweet corn...most likely frozen? No fresh veg.Could be such a nice place Seeing as it's in the countryside and opposite a village green. Too rough n ready, and food not good enough to justify a return, even with 50% knocked off the food bill.

We walk to this Public House once a month for a family Sunday carvery and we are always very happy with the food, beer and atmosphere. The carvery is £7.50 each and is good value as the meat is always well cooked and you usually have the choice between turkey, beef or gammon. The vegetables are ok, the cauliflower cheese always going down well and they serve real ale which is the main reason why we go there. The reason why I have not given five stars is that the cutlery is not good, the plates are too small and the vegetables are only ok. They say the roast potatoes are home made but they seem to me to be frozen ones heated up. Another trouble with this public house is that the outside eating area are non existent really and if you want to eat outside you are better off going to the White Horse in Tea Green although they do not do a carvery.

Went in May for lunch and found ourselves the only ones eating in the Public House. I imagine it gets a lot busier in the evenings and weekends but we only go during the day as it is on our walking route. It says its in Bedford but it is in Mangrove which is a small village just to the north of Luton. We had ploughman's lunch which was acceptable enough and they serve real ale so worth a visit if you flying out of London Luton airport perhaps as its under ten minutes drive from the airport. They have a big child's play area with climbing frames and plastics balls that looks for 3 - 9 age group.
