King William IV in South Cambridgeshire

Ridiculous restaurant. You ring their telephone number with an answerphone saying we cannot accept your call!!! How about that for service!!!!! Never again

Our U3a dining club were booked here for lunch 28th March. We arrived to find it closed and were told by locals it had been shut for two weeks! 22 diners very let down. Luckily The Pheasant just along the road fitted us in, so we had our meal.

This was booked as a Mother’s Day treat , arrived and thought it looked very cosy & nice . Shown to our table & waited for a menu for some time , when we asked the server moved a chalk board to our table which had 3starters , 4 mains . Eventually the server arrived to tell us no lamb available , this left chicken , beef roast dinners & mushroom risotto. No vegan options for any meals . The starters were uneatable , thick cold soup & shims in cold thick butter . When the server arrived to take our plates she asked if they were ok & was not surprised when we said no . The mains arrived with some missing veg & gravy . We were not asked if we needed sauces or anything else . Again the server was not supported when we complained & explained that there were staff in the kitchen that were not usually in there ! The owner was not in so his son was over seeing & there were staff shortages. Very dissatisfied as was not what we expected. Very strange atmosphere in this pub & not sure what is going on but think it would be better to close & get sorted rather than charge customers for this .

Table for 6 booked for 6pm we get a call 5:42 while on the way to say the chef wasn’t coming in, terribly sorry and that they could move us to another restaurant down the road! We was recommended here and it was meant to be for my husband’s birthday with family coming from us far as Enfield. We ended up at a completely different restaurant and had a lovely meal!

Lovely pub, nice atmosphere, food very nice.. the only down side was the length of time to get served our food. Was not asked if we wanted any more drinks during the night..even had to ask twice for the bill after waiting 15 minutes from the first time of asking. Shame the service was poor.

We had a beautiful meal today, we are always searching for roast that we cook at home and they didn’t disappoint….. it was lovely. We had pork belly, lamb and beef roasts and everyone loved there roast options, plus the cheese burger and chips…..the owner was very attentive. Thank you

We had a really delicious Sunday lunch today - lovely roast lunch with lots of veg and fantastic roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings - highly recommended!!

Good food great portion size would go again. Only one down point some of our party felt a bit cold , would be great when the season warms up a tad.

Fantastic evening dining with friends .. limited but good and fresh cooked food and a great wine list. A proper chef -cooked meal …stick stein moment . Sea bass was a highlight along with the sticky toffee pudding and the fresh cooed fish ‘n chips

Absolutely first class Sunday Roast- I can’t remember the last time I had a pub lunch that good! A lovely warm welcome too. Started off with a drink in the glorious garden. Looking forward to coming back with the family! Thanks to Adam and Maddison for taking good care of us! Great service with a sense of humour too!

We had an enjoyable family meal. The atmosphere was good as was the service.The disappointment was the Eaton mess which clearly stated on the menu that it contained strawberries. It was a lot of cream, a sprinkle of meringue and a sort of strawberry sauce but no strawberries! When we remarked about the absence of strawberries we were told that there had not been any delivery. Unfortunately we were not told at the time of ordering. We were given a small discount, but were disappointed by the lack of information prior to ordering.

King William has been a past favourite for food, the vegetarian dishes in particular. So we were disappointed with limited menu (OK it was Monday lunchtime...) and only one veggie main with new ownership. Also limited beer offering. But the food we had was good and friendly service. Would return if menu is expanded.

On 3 June my son and his wife held their UK wedding reception at the King Bill having married in the south of France the previous weekend Carole, Alex, Alison and Chris and the rest of the team excelled. They honestly couldn’t have helped us more to ensure everything was perfect. We had the most beautiful flowers to decorate together with all the twinkling lights which made it a fabulous mixture of olde worlde England and a magic fairy kingdom! The food was amazing Chris had cooked a big hog roast and made amazing dishes to complement it. Making sure our vegan/vegetarian/gluten intolerant guests were catered for perfectly. Our French guests complemented the local sparkling Newswells wine which we had chosen rather than Champagne. They all stayed in the newly refurbished rooms which were simply decorated and beautifully clean… I can’t thank them enough for making our families day so special

I stayed the night with my two grand daughters in their family accomodation. The staff and new owners offered a very friendly service and were very welcoming .We were looked after very well..The breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent The King William IV is well placed for a base to explore the area too - A lovely gem!

A large group of us had lunch at the King William yesterday we all had a great meal with attentive friendly service. Contrary to the previous owners face book page it is not closed it is well and truly OPEN!

I never write reviews but this time I just had to. Myself and three friends were struggling to find accommodation as part of a long distance walk that we were undertaking. My search brought me to The King William IV and I am so glad that it did. Everyone involved, from the owner through to the waiters, went out of their way to make our stay a success. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The food and atmosphere were so good that we ate their on all three nights. When we left you actually felt that they were pleased you had chosen to stay there. If I'm looking for accommodation again in this area it will be a short search as I wouldn't hesitate to stay at The King William IV again. Thank you.

Just arrived home from a fantastic meal in the garden of the King William 4th Heydon. We enjoyed the food very much and would strongly recommend the fish and chips. The men enjoyed the adnam's ghostship very much which obviously was kept well. The service was excellent. The staff are personable and friendly. We have lived locally for 26 years and seen the pub go through ups and downs. On tonight's visit we will return.

I had dinner at the King William with my husband, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the well prepared food (rack of ribs and salmon) as well as the friendly and attentive service. Well worth a visit for a good meal and great atmosphere.

Visited again - lovely pub and restaurant. They have produced the most fantastic food with simple execution. Has the sausage and mash and sea bass on a terrific salad of rocket, samphire and celeriac and the dessert of blueberry panne cotta with lemon balm and chocolate (a fantastic combo) was terrific. Great place, great food, just one or two niggles. The sausage roll starter was really tasty, but that's what it was ... a sausage roll. A bit of salad would have made it that much better. The Lamb Loin was a bit too rare, but very well presented. The pork ribs were brilliant, and enormous! The fish was beautiful as were the Bon Bons. Unfortunately the plates were cold so the asparagus was cold from the start. The staff were friendly and did a great job. Had the plates, and hence the food, been hot and the lamb cooked for a couple more minutes we'd have given 5 stars. Will definitely visit again though.

Went along for the first time to this regular Wednesday night feature night. Great beer but more importantly a fantastic pie crust pastry pie, mash, and veg. with friends.
