Ok, what is up with the 4.8 rating?! This is at best an average pub, food is average on flavor. Average beers, couple of OK wines, cider too sweet. I’d recommend trying harder, so many great options available! Nice to have some Indian options, but it’s just ok. Burger tasted microwaved. Spicy Chicken was not bad but nothing great, needed mayo. So-so, but I would not recommend unless you just want a pint with your mates.

Popped in Monday for a beer, great atmosphere, it's dog friendly also which is a bonus, seems like a great addition to Royston

We had an incredible dining experience at the King James Pub in Royston! The food was absolutely amazing, and Despite it being a public holiday and the pub being short-staffed, the food arrived much faster than we expected, which was great since we were quite hungry. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy our meal. The portion sizes were generous, especially for the price. We were thoroughly impressed and will definitely be coming back!

Didn't have food so cannot rate or comment about it. The drinks were standard, nothing special, but I'd rather my cocktail be made in front of me for future reference.

First visit to this pub. We will come again. Food was exceptional. Indian tapas was very good and the chicken biryana was out of this world. Highly recommend. Karaoke every couple of Fridays was also very good fun.

Always an enjoyable time had everything visited with family and friends.

Delicious butter chicken and really kind staff - it was me and my toddler and we were not the tidiest of guests, but they took care of us and even gave her a lollipop at the end when she didn’t want to leave. Will be back again soon to try all the other items on the menu!

A great pub with fantastic food!

First time ordering from here, unfortunately not great; Most of the food was cold, burger had good flavour but very very dry and over cooked. Additional notes asking for no tomato in burger were ignored

We always get a lovely warm welcome in the King James! Their Biryani and Indian tapas are exceptional and authentic.

The Indian Tapas and Biryani, in particular, are something special. Arguably the best Indian food in Royston. The pint in the sunshine was lovely too!

I ran out of battery, so I came into King James pub to charge my phone. The staff was very nice. I also had the chicken biryani which was the biggest portion ever and tasted very good. The staff even ordered a cab for me.

Despite your comments about my review I stand by it. You can refer me to as many comments in your favour as you want but I know what I experienced. An Indian takeaway shouldn't be running a pub anyway.

The pub was too great and the service was excellent this pub having the great vibe and great atmosphere and the Patio was too good and every must try their food Indian tapas and authentic chicken biryani and great friendly service by the bar staff 👍👍

It used to be the coach and horses. Well it was a bloody awful pub then and nothing has changed. Depressing to the extent of suicidal ideation. Only two customers, I was one of them, and he looked as though he didn't want to be there. At 5 pounds 45 a pint don't bother. There's s Weatherspoons round the corner, and whilst not a fan, at least you'll get a cheap pint and not need your antidepressants.

Were first visitors after opening time. Only had a drink, no food. Friendly service & good beer.

Great new menu. Would recommend the Indian tapas. Good selection of real ales. Staff friendly and helpful. Will go back again soon.

Popped for a quick dinner on the way home, didn't expect a lot but how wrong I was! This is a proper hidden gem, amazing food, especially Biryani - properly authentic, real Indian, absolutely brilliant! My mate had a burger and was also very pleased - overall highly recommended!

I popped In for some quick food and a drink. I was very pleasantly surprised how good the food was and well priced too. Definitely recommend going here.

My partner and I stopped off during a long drive here for lunch. The food and service were great, we will be coming back again! Special mention to Teja who was very welcoming and helpful behind the bar.

Another lovely meal at the King James 🥰 I can recommend the handmade snacks too - spicy cashew nuts were my favourite!

First impressions were mixed on arrival but a large array of beers on draft settled the nerves, had a great spot around the corner and 4 great curries! Would recommend to all! Easy to park on the road nearby

I recommend the King James for the amazing staff who do their utmost to keep everyone happy. I'd been here several times and have always felt welcomed so I celebrated my 50th birthday with a group of around 30 people and we had an area reserved. Nothing was an issue, the food was excellent and I can't say how helpful, friendly and attentive the staff were ensuring I had the most enjoyable, relaxed & memorable evening

Their burgers are amazing, and so are their onion rings. The atmosphere in there is always cheerful and upbeat, and Rishi is always friendly and helpful. Whether I'm there for drinks, or for dinner, I always have a wonderful time.

Brilliant night celebrating with the new owners. They had a duo on playing live music and it made a cute little pub even more perfect for a Friday evening! Will be back the next time I'm out in Royston.

An absolute hidden gem ! Having undergone a complete refurbishment this place really needs a visit ( although it was tempting to keep it a secret ) ! Beautifully and tastefully relooked, this is the perfect pub for a quieter atmosphere, space for a catch up over a glass of wine or good beer, a light lunch ( with some fabulous lunchtime deals 12-3pm) , calming music and very friendly welcome and excellent service from a team who really show they care. I highly recommend.

The best chicken curry bowl. Nothing like you'd expect but sooo delicious. I came in to watch the rugby last week on my own - the sole Bokke supporter - and had a fantastic evening with no hassle! I shall be back this Saturday 💯. Thank you, King James! Christina

Just had the tastiest chicken curry bowl. It was so very tasty and a good size portion. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Here solo to watch the rugby. And might I just mention, despite being from a tin, their Margaritas are divine!!

We popped into this pub for drinks and a light snack on a very hot September Friday evening. We had 2 of the starters on the menu and they were excellent. The hummous was tood good to share as were the nachos -all tasted homemade and fresh. A real pleasant surprise!

I personally feel that they should make kareoke nights less frequent, rather than the current every two weeks basis. Three weeks would best suit the routine, in my opinion.

My husband has motor neurone disease, and often finds it difficult to be understood when ordering in pubs. The staff at King James are absolutely wonderful, they take time for him to speak, they listen to him and make him feel welcome. They offer assistance discreetly. Just wonderful people. The food and beer is great too. Can’t thank them enough for making him feel “normal “

Visited for the first time and really enjoyed it. Good selection of beers/ales, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere inside the pub. Also, the toilets were spotlessly clean which is always a big plus.

An excellent pub where atmosphere and decoration are well-deserving of a 5 star review. The landlord and his team are incredibly friendly and, on the Friday night we attended, the live music was without flaw. Of all the pubs in Royston, there are none better than the King James if you want good food, drink, or a spectacular atmosphere. The decoration is a brilliant fusion of classic architecture and modern charm, the range of drinks (and pricing) is great, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Thank you to the team.

Among all the pub closures it's great to see one re-opening. Nice interior, friendly staff, good selection of ales and nice home-made burgers. It's a great addition to the town and I wish them every success. My only request would be to see if they could sell local ale e.g. Buntingford Brewery which is based only a couple of miles away?

An amazing newly opened pub great addition to our town. Great service and good quality food. The entertainment is very popular. My daughter loves playing the piano when we are there. Happy days.

Fantastic and newly opened local pub in a great location. We came within the first month of opening to check it out on a Friday night. We really enjoyed our evening. The decoration is fantastic, great food and drink options at reasonable prices. Very relaxing and tranquil with soft music playing in the background. We met the owner, who was kind and friendly. Glad to see this pub open again in a new fashion!

Visited the pub yesterday and it has amazing ambience. The food is amazing mainly a unique this CAN YOU HANDLE ME? it's awesome and nachos are very tasty too. Must try if you are in royston and nearby places.

Very simple menu, but reasonably priced and good drink selection. Music was mostly acoustic songs of pop songs when we were there, but it does grow on you 🙂 And you can always play “guess the song title and artist” 😆

Exceptionally great food, and great service, the outdoor serving was a huge plus aswell. Ate here for 3 days straight and couldn't get enough of it.
