First time in the restaurant and wont be the last, food, service and atmosphere absolutely amazing

First visit and I’ll be back. Amazing food and for us 6 dishes between 2 of us definitely enough food. Favourite dish was a tossup between the Manchego croquettes and the cfc (sp?) chicken. The white wine with a pedro xiemez grape was unusual and a great find

The venue is good as was the premises- It really stops there. First the good points: Good wine list however ours was a bit warm and required a few requests for more ice and water in a bucket. Service was acceptable but not in keeping with the hype. The sitting area at the rear of the restaurant seemed cosy and somewhere where one could have a relaxed experience. The bar was impressive as a sight. The food, although reasonable was far too 'nouvelle' in portion size and at times left one feeling not just simply underwhelmed but wondering if Jeremy Beedle was going to jump out as it was a joke! I must also say, the difference we experienced in seasoning made one wonder if the head chef was actually there or simply left it to 'the boys and girls'. I'm afraid I cannot recommend this place in its current form. There are far more impressive places a few minutes drive from there.

I hoped I wouldn’t have write this review. I had asked that Jackie call me to discuss my meal on 5 July. As you didn’t call me I will now publicly air my complaint. I have eaten at Chez Burton 5 times. The first 3 visits were excellent. Visit 4 really wasn’t good, so I had hoped that on visit 5 it would prove to be a blip. Sadly no, this wasn’t the case. The ethos for the restaurant as I understood it was “small plates not sharing plates”. This has obviously changed as the portions are now larger. Some may find this an improvement, but the dishes have now lost their finesse. And their beautiful flavours. We ordered the ravioli, which wasn’t cooked, there is al dente and there is raw. We complained at the time and we didn’t pay for this item. But I would have preferred to pay for a well cooked course. Chez Burton, isn’t a cheap night out, but that’s ok, if you know that. But it is truly disappointing if it isn’t up to the standard you have enjoyed. I would implore you to go back to small, beautiful plates of food.

I recently had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ordered a main dish that was so salty it was inedible. Unfortunately, the customer service was non-existent; no one approached me to ask how the food was or if I needed anything. When I requested the bill, I informed the staff that I couldn't eat the food due to its excessive saltiness. The response was simply, "OK, I will inform the chef," but I was still charged the full amount. I left feeling very unsatisfied with both the meal and the service.

A real find for a delicious Saturday lunch! Amazing food, freshly prepared, with quality ingredients and tasty seasonings. Service second to none. We will be back! Thank you.

Have to agree with a previous review. Food is very overpriced for very small portions that really are nothing special. The owners are really not interested in your comfort or comments, and act like you should be honoured to eat in their restaurant. Very disappointing. Will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to my friends.

Genuinely some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Small plates add up to full bellies! Drinks were astounding, Charlie is an excellent mixologist. Special mention to the lemon tart pavlova.

My daughter and I went for an early Mother’s Day meal this evening . We only decided the night before to book a table here . I’m so pleased we did . Amazing amazing , lovely atmosphere , great staff , and fantastic unusual dishes . Will defiantly be back .

We have been wanting to visit for a while and my partner and I booked in on our babys due date as she had not arrived and had a fantastic evening. The ambience, the staff and the Food is absolutely spot on We are very much self confessed foodies and thought this was up there with the very best, certainly the best we have had in the area. We shared about 7 small plates between us, The lamb Scotch Egg, Ox Cheek Bourguigon and Crispy Chill Beef were among our favourites and The Desserts were amazing. The presentation at the table was a lovely touch with the pouring of the sauce accompanying the dishes and you could tell the staff were passionate about what they were doing. We will definitely be back for first date night after our little lady is here and also look forward to the Cocktail bar opening in Letchworth later this month! Thanks!

Really nice restaurant with good service and atmosphere. Quality of the food is very good, varied dishes with great flavours. The problem is the portion sizes and price. It's massively over priced for the size of the dishes. A dish of 2 very small scallops is £15 to give one example. We spent over £160 for 2 people with 1 bottle of wine. Hard to recommend unless you have very deep pockets.

Went with family as a party of 6 which I would say is an ideal size for this restaurant. The concept of small plates to share is excellent. The quality of the food and service were both first class and whilst not a cheap night out as a special occasion or celebration this is definitely a restaurant I would recommend and will revisit.

What can I say other than fantastic? This a small plates restaurant, so you choose several dishes. We ordered 6 but ordered more as we ate. Had a seat at the chefs table where you can watch the rood being prepared, highly recommended this if you're a couple. The food is amazingly good, the cocktail and wine selection is superb. Came for a dinner with clients from Denmark this evening and they were blown away. We tried most dishes and they were all incredible. The Ox Cheek was 11/10. Service was impeccable.

Terrific food, great variety along with outstanding service

Very disappointed. The service and attention was good however the food portion was shameful. We ordered two plates of scallops for 4 people together with other selections. When served there was one scallop on each dish. Effectively meaning that each person received half a scallop each. We discussed this with the manager who informed us that it was served by the weight. Each separate dish cost £12.50. The menu stated Scallops not Scallop. The other sharing dishes were also very small. We paid the bill and left.

Overpriced, poor quality tasteless food with extremely small portions. Management was not responsive to complaints from other customers too and came across arrogant. I attempted to explain the misleading information about one of their dishes but was not successful. We shared one scallop! When the menu clearly says scallops. Unfortunately my wife's birthday was ruined. Never again. Avoid at all costs!!

Very nice restaurant, Open kitchen, nice, good theatre but think you should invest in air con its rather warm. Think you should get planning permission and get rear area covered and set as a restaurant extension Would return

We visited yesterday for my brother's birthday. We were greeted by a lovely young man called James. Jackie & Neil the owners made us feel welcome straight away. The food was outstanding and the whole experience was one I look forward to doing again soon. Highly recommended.

What a spectacular evening! This was our first visit to this gem of a restaurant, having been unable to secure a table on previous attempts. It was well worth the wait. Our welcome was warm and friendly, the cocktail menu dreamy - my choice of a Cherry Mai Tai just divine! We started with the charcuterie board to share which was lovely but the best was yet to come. We chose 5 small plates, as advised by our lovely waiter. The 18 hour Dauphinoise Chips were sublime, the Lamb Shoulder as tender as anything, the Crab Crumpet scrumptious, the Sea Bass spicy and warming but my stand out was the Thai Chalk Stream Trout - so fresh and delicious - if you can pronounce it properly after a couple of cocktails and a superb glass of Vino Verde! We don’t normally have dessert but felt we had to try the Basque Honey Cheesecake and the Coconut Parfait both so full of flavour and texture and looked wonderful. The team are doing something very right at Chez Burton and this really was one of the best meals I have ever had, I can’t wait to visit again.

Chez Burton is a fantastic restaurant. Neil & Jacqui are great hosts and along with their team do their utmost to ensure you get an excellent experience. The cocktails are gorgeous and the food is absolutely delicious. The menu is innovative and modern. Great work CB!

What can I say, but wow! Some of the best food that I have had out in a long time Beef brisket and crispy beef was absolutely amazing If you are in the area and want a really good meal out, I can highly recommend Chez Burton

The spot for food envy, This restaurant has thought of the small details on top of brilliant creative food!! The small dishes are creative and delicious… food envy isn’t a thing in this restaurant because it’s all about sharing, it’s all about food culture and fun.. the restaurant is really but yet fine dining!!

Early birthday meal for my husband , sat at chefs table which is fabulous. Started with amazing cocktails - they make a standard pina colada another taste sensation . The care and presentation is top notch. We only had 3 courses ( I’ve not been well) but wished we could have managed more . Watching the chefs prepare the plates and explaining what each dish was adds to the whole experience . Previous visits have had the cheese board - highly recommend . Can’t wait for next visit .

Visited Chez Burton last night after we were recommended to try this restaurant and I have to say we were super impressed. The food was absolutely delicious, every single plate we chose was absolutely delicious! The cocktails were also incredible. The only slight negative was that we had to wait a long time for the cocktails but was worth the wait & the food came out super fast. I can see this being our new favourite restaurant to visit. This was my first time at Chez Burton and it will definitely not be my last. It was amazing. Can’t believe I left it so long to go. I love the small plates. Everything I had was very tasty and beautifully presented. The sea bass dish and the mushroom dish were incredible. And the chips were to die for! Had a bit of an issue booking my table, resorted to driving over the day before to check I was actually booked in. Glad I persevered, as I would have missed a treat.

Great food, great service. This was our second visit and the food once again did not disappoint. They cycle the menu items occasionally so we were excited to try a whole new menu. I highly recommend the crispy beef. It was unreal! Betsie and James provided great service. Super polite and helpful, always smiling. The wine and cocktails options are great. Honestly this whole experience is on par with higher priced London restaurants (Hakkasan/Tattu etc) that serve similar styles of food. We cant wait for our next visit.

The best restaurant in Hitchin and surrounding areas. The food is just absolutely superb. However, in the winter months it's so cold, that it it is almost unbearable. Ate with our coats and scarves on.

What a gem of a place to have on our doorstep. We came here for the first time on a Friday night and we were not disappointed! Both my husband and I have mixed feelings about this place. We ordered the Chez board, on which there was a selection of cheese and charcuterie. £22 I expected to have a good portion of food but it was very small: 3 very small pieces of cheese which we had to share, 1 slice of dried tomatoe, a few olives, 2 very small pieces of ham, 2 ver small of coppa and 3 of salame. We also ordered 4 small plates to share, the presentation looked good for all of them and the flavour was nice, apart the monkfish in tikka sauce which didn't work at all, the sauce was too overpowering for such a nice delicate fish. The staff was nice but we had to wait 40 minutes to get started eating and the place was really cold as both of us felt cold in there.

Been a couple of times. Nice food although some were overly salty on this this occasion - Expensive but nice treat.

Little bit disappointed- came highly recommended. Might be because we were late sitting at 8.15 pm but only left with two options for initial nibbles - langoustine arancini or focaccia ? Quite a broad menu choice and a bit overwhelming- having chosen some dishes then told about 30% of them were not available. Chose again and while waiting were informed another dish was only available for one person. Apple crumb brulee not good at all - very runny and shallow - did wonder if it had been defrosted. Not a nice crisp caramel on top. Overall - compared to other restaurants serving similar style - bit disappointing and over priced for what was delivered. Nice cocktails!

It's a really nice place for well made tapas, and nibbles to go along with the extensive wine list of the place. The staff is very friendly and helpful, quite knowledgeable with their wines too. So, definitely ask for advice if you get stuck.

This is a cozy, intimate, quaint resto. The place is not massive, it's quite tight to think of it but somehow the seating still works. Food wise, they're excellent. We've tried the Ox Cheek which I think is the best on the menu. Next to it would be the Steak, also the Crab Croquettes. We've tried the special of the day which was the Venison minced pie but it was more of a pudding than a main course. The Confit Duck Rillette (pictured) is as delicious as the rest. They are all small bites but they still make you filled up. Reservation is a must.

We had a nice meal here. We tried some of the variations on classic cocktails and they missed the mark for us. I found the menu a bit confused between British & Japanese, some dishes were not great (beef steak & duck chips). Mushroom gyoza were amazing, moorish umami flavour, I had to get another portion. On the whole it was good but not up to our expectations.

CATFISHED! We were tricked by online reviews and pictures into thinking this place was something special. When we arrived we were first surprised by the decor, which did not have the high end vibe we were expecting to find. We were the first customers of the evening to arrive and the chairs were dirty, uncleaned from previous diner's spilled food. We were handed cocktail menus and ordered a cocktail each and were pushed to order wine in the same order! When the cocktails arrived at the table we were again asked for a wine order before we had even taken a sip. The pina colada cocktail had so much unblended fruit in it, it was more a dessert than a cocktail. We were then handed food menus and opened them to find lots of food smeared across each one, again left overs from previous days where diners had browsed the menu for top ups. Does it cost much to print a fresh, clean menu? We were told that 4-5 plates would be adequate for 2 people, which is usually plenty at any tapas restaurant we have been to before. We ordered 6 plates. Each plate was difficult to divide between 2 because the portions were so small. The amount of food and the quality did not match the pictures on Google. I think the restaurant is probably owned by a reasonably good chef who thinks he has trained someone to do the work, but it is nowhere near the same standard. We were not impressed by any of the plates we had, it was all very mediocre and disappointing. The service was relatively enthusiastic but unprofessional and untrained. We were not offered any water at any point in the evening. I have given 2 stars because I suppose in some ways it could have been worse, but there is no chance I would ever return.

Amazing place. It’s a long time since I’ve had a meal out that only needs one word to describe. Wow! Definitely worth a trip, food is fantastic with small twists on the everyday norm. Cocktails are great too, the margarita is a bit too drinkable! Staff are great too.

Food is amazing the flavours of the dishes were brilliant, cocktails made are spot on. If you have not been then this place is worth the visit though you best plan ahead as always fully booked. Inside is very pretty and classy, the service is really good to high standards I’m looking forward to my next visit.

Wow. This place is an absolute find. We tried about 12 dishes plus cocktails. All of them were fantastic, and I’d genuinely give more than half 10/10. Having only recently moved out to “the burbs” from west london this is exactly what we were hoping for but not sure we could still get - creative fine dining with a friendly, relaxed feel. We’re so glad this is on our doorstep and will be frequent visitors in the coming years!

WHAT A FIND!! My husband and I visited Chez Burton for my 30th birthday with two friends. When I booked it (about 1 week ahead) I was told that they were full in the main restaurant (Fridays and Saturdays book up about 5-6 weeks ahead...

The menu was absolutely amazing, fresh and mouth watering - blew our mind and taste buds. The staff and service provided was on point throughout the evening. This is definitely a must visit. We will definitely be returning to try out there next menu (which is seasonal)
