King Edward VII in Newham

Called in on the off chance to see if they did Sunday lunch. Was left standing at the bar for ages as the bar staff appeared not to notice me. Eventually got served but had to actually yell my order, the music was so loud. There was no draught ale available at all. The roast lamb arrived in good time, though, and was tasty enough. However, if the noisy music wasn't bad enough, people (including the bar staff!) were smoking right outside the open door and the whole bar reeked of cigarettes. Unlikely to go back.

Shocking that this pub had virtually no beers available on a west ham match day .all pumps except some lager ones were off ,back bar closed .we was told they dont have the staff to open the back bar and didnt seem bothered about the lack of beers .there were 12 of us and we all left and went to the much better black bull just down the road .we wont be meeting here in future .

I am sorry to say but the good old days of Eddie's are gone. It is not the same pub it used to be. Rather depressing place considering it was Friday evening and usually this pub was beaming with joy and good atmosphere. Well, no more. The friend i brought in there pointed out that it felt more like a drug den than the pub, with some shady clientele eating a KFC behaving rather rowdy, loud and inappropriate (unless the management will argue that pin holding persons leg and discharging fire extinguisher in her crouch is oh so funny and acceptable behaviour. I'll wait). Did not feel safe there at all. Disappointing.

Abbiamo preso un paio di mezze pinte di ottima IPA la sera prima della nostra partenza (eravamo alloggiati all'Ibis). Il ragazzo che ci ha servito era preciso e molto alla mano. Pub molto carino e discreto, ottimo per coppie. Ah, dimenticavo: abbiamo fatto un secondo giro di birre, a dimostrazione della loro bontà. Consigliato.

I popped in for a drink while waiting for a bus and was quite surprised to see a Tardis like pub that seemed to stretch back for miles. I got talking to the manager who has recently taken over while he was repairing an ale tap and he has big plans for the place talking about booking music on a Friday, starting a poker night and getting a monthly comedy night going in the function room. I'll definitely be along to check in his progress and try those ales he is putting on the pump!

I have been to this pub now about three times in four years but not again. The house white wine is just awful, what is it your serving? I know it's only house white but its should at least be palatable. I could not even finish the glass. Other pubs house white is far better. Next we wanted some chips. You can choose various types of chips. Fat chips, thin, curly etc. My friend and I chose fat chips. What a disgrace. They were not cooked fresh were horribly soggy like fat slugs, no crispiness whatsoever and had clearly been cooked ages ago, and reheated. Just awful. Please sort your house wine and chips out. Your customers deserve better.

He estado viniendo aquí a PRUSIA desde que tenía 15 años. Ahora vengo de visita a mi lugar de nacimiento, principalmente en los días de partido del West Ham. Después de haber probado un montón de pubs y bares de Westfield, este es mi pub favorito, un excelente servicio del bar, brillantes jóvenes locales que hacen pintas con poco alboroto y el gobernador incluso les ha enseñado a verter una pinta adecuada (a diferencia de la estafa de Westfield). bares!) First let me start by saying that my friends and I had lovely christmas food at the King Edward in December 2018. So we decided to repeat the experience again this year and book for the Christmas meal again. What a mistake that was. We we was given a starter that was from Iceland and was burnt so badly that you could've cracked your tooth, then the main course was so undercooked if eaten would've left you needing emergency care. Then after explaining to the manager that we couldn't eat the food, he instructed his staff not to serve us, so we had no option but to leave. It is my understanding that the chef who made our food the year before, is no longer working there, my advice to you is DO NOT EAT THERE!

Had a quick burger and beer here on my first night in London. I had to be in the Excel so I stayed in Strattford. I was a bit disappointed by the absence of pubs and restaurants. But this one has a good ambiance and the service and price was OK.

Entré aquí un miércoles por la noche y me gustó mucho. El staff es muy amigable. Pedí una bebida mientras esperaba a mi amigo y luego volví a pedir algo de comida. Se equivocaron con el pedido y esto se hizo evidente cuando llegó poco tiempo después. Regresé a la barra para señalar esto y se corrigió rápidamente y se restauró el pedido original. Esto se hizo rápidamente y con una disculpa y la oferta de una bebida gratis.Los errores pueden ocurrir, pero la forma en que se tratan es lo que marca la diferencia. ¡Bien hecho y gracias!Buena comida y ambiente y muy recomendable.

hughesthis fue una agradable sorpresa, aunque he estado aquí antes de ser un ex pescador y también era dueño de un restaurante de mariscos.Yo y un amigo fuimos aquí para tomar una pinta rápida y decidí comer el pescado y las papas fritas. Debo decir que para alguien que sepa, la comida fue excelente y posiblemente el mejor pescado y papas fritas en el extremo este. Lo recomendaría sin duda ya que el personal es cálido y la cerveza está fría

Fui con un grupo de amigos (un Grupo de Encuentro) el martes 3 de julio alrededor de las 7 pm. El personal no podría haber sido más acogedor ni siquiera sugiriendo un lugar mejor para que todos nos sentáramos. La comida era de buena calidad y, en general, el pub tiene un ambiente agradable. Definitivamente voy a ir de nuevo.

Este fue un buen pequeño hallazgo en una tranquila tarde de domingo. . . . aunque no es tan tranquilo ya que había un pub en el piso de arriba y la camarera del bar estaba cantando la mayor parte del tiempo, ja, ja! ! ! Estábamos buscando un lugar tradicional y eso era mucho. Buen ambiente y personal amable. Muebles y sensaciones tradicionales. La comida se veía bien pero desafortunadamente no la probé. Cervezas alrededor de las 6 pero es Londres, supongo! ! Los baños podrían ser modernizados. Recomendado?

Staff were all very friendly and accommodating - a true asset to the pub! The roast was ok but would have preferred gravy on the side instead and a bigger yorkshire pudding! Would likely go back and try the daily menu.

Great spacious pub in Stratford with the friendliest bar staff in the area, a happy balance of customers from locals to the transient, a nice calm atmosphere, with a pub quiz on Sunday evenings, the food is very good with huge portions, definately the pub worth visiting when in the area.

Came to Stratford to get away from the crowd in Highbury after a football game for food and drinks, disappointed with the staff and the quality of the beer we didn't even order any food. Its a big pub and has such great potential only a couple of minutes from the station!!

I’ve eaten here two nights on the run whilst staying locally for work. Both nights the food has been good honest pub grub but the bar staff have been amazing.

Came here for works xmas meal. Table space is cramped. Food was nothing special and the plates were cold. Toilets are terrible - no seat, no hot water, soap or dryer. Staff were nice though.

El personal era muy educado y parecía importarle, pero se requiere una mirada seria a los tiempos de espera. No nos impide volver si en la zona de nuevo, ya que es un pub cálido y cómodo.

Lo más importante a tener en cuenta es que el personal del bar es encantador. Tienen lo que yo llamaría comida de pub adecuada y precios razonables para Londres. Muy buena selección de ginebra y otras bebidas. Tiene un ambiente de pub muy clásico que es difícil de encontrar en Londres. Siempre servicial y amigable para los perros!

Der Pub liegt zentral im Stadtteil Stratford und hat mit Sicherheit schon bessere Tage gesehen. Die Inneneinrichtung ist urig und teilweise nicht mehr im besten Zustand. Insbesondere der Geruch wenn man reinkommt ist sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Die Bedienung, welche in den Pub´s immer an der Theke stattfindet und auch eine direkte Bezahlung fordert, war nicht sehr freundlich. Vielleicht hatte sie einen schlechten Tag. Ihr Kollege war dafür sehr nett. Die Speisenauswahl ist für einen Pub gut und es hat auch gut geschmeckt. Burger, Salat oder anderes stehen zur Auswahl. Mein erster Besuch in London und auch in einem Pub. Während der Reise habe ich dann auch die >Erfahrung gesammelt, dass es definitiv bessere Pubs gibt. Ich würde hier nicht mehr hingehen.

Visited today and he pub was overwhelmed with rugby supporters and the staff were under immense pressure. They did, however cope very well and were very attentive once they had the chance. We had some lunch and the food was good. Will definitely return

I absolutely love this pub! I have been going there for almost 20 years and I have a good time every time. Really good beer, good food and a great atmosphere. The Eddie is a traditional pub, very cosy and welcoming with a nice little beer garden for when the weather is a bit warmer. If you are in Stratford I highly recommend giving the Eddie a go.

In light of the available pubs and places to eat in Stratford, the king Eddie far outweighs the rest.

We went with our family, including two children. TripAdvisor reviews and the website made it look like more of a restaurant than it was. It felt more like a college bar. On the positive side, the staff was great. Very friendly and helpful... but that’s where it ends. Food was average at best. Mashed potatoes were cold, sausage had seen better days. The worst part was the overall atmosphere. The music was excessively loud for dinner hour, masking any ambience that the pretty structure of the pub could have provided. Half of their draft beers were out. The restroom was downright nasty. The whole place felt tired and needs a facelift. I would come back here with a buddy for a beer, but never again for a family dinner.

The atmosphere is not great, especially in the summer. The rubbish bins are stored in an enclosed space between the pub and the building next door, and when it's warm the side bar and toilets smell like rotting trash.

Random Night - but worth it! wasn't planning to go out but mates dragged me and had a real good time in this pub.....nice chilled atmosphere..cheers Baileys for giving me a shout

Excellent food and great variety of beers. Friendly and professional staff that makes you feel like home. The bar manager Tiago, is one of the most dedicated persons that I meet. Just try this place, you will like it for sure.

I'm a local, and don't really expect to find a 'cheap pub', however although the food here is nice, it is very expensive for what it is. It has a nice atmosphere, but I think it would benefit from some more reasonably priced snacks and nicer toilets. It's also a shame the bar staff won't have a go at making a simple cocktail, even if they have the ingredients. I haven't been here for lunch, but have heard good things.

Two meals here, both were excellent (steak and ale pie and fish pie), much nicer than Wetherspoons. Reasonably fast service. Also has a genuine pub feel. Quite busy, few spare tables on either Sunday or Monday nights.

What's happened to the Eddie over the last year or so? A sad shadow of itself. It used to be a favourite pub in Stratford (and let's face it there aren't many good pubs in Newham) but over the past year two very poor meals there (has the chef just given up?) and it's often much emptier than a pub in this location should be. Last night's painful karaoke confirm it has lost its way. Whoever is running the pub right now should be ashamed.

We went before a football match so expected it to be busy, but they didn't seem to be able to cope at all. The food took ages, it didn't taste great and it was overpriced but worst of all was the rudeness of the staff.. one in particular was truly awful. They got our orders mixed up and instead of apologising, she thought yelling at us was the appropriate response. The manager did sort it in the end but by that point we were all put off eating it. My daughter then found a hair in her burger too, so that had to go back. All in all, a terrible experience and waste of money.

This used to be a great pub but has gone downhill. Staff friendly enough but only two ales out of four available and these could be kept better. I ordered fish and chips but the potato wedges were not cooked and quite hard. It's always going to get custom because of it's location but it's never going to stand out from the crowd in its current form.

The pub is like any other pub, old school style with old chairs and tables. The food I had (surf and turf) was nice and tasty. However, I was told that it would be a 30min wait... 1 hour later it arrived (yay)! 6/7 of us had food arrived within 40mins and mine was over an hour. The lady giving me the food didn't even apologise for the delay. They did offer us a free bottle of procescco due to the delay of the food. Anyways.. when it came to my food it was nice, but when I asked for a shell cracker (for the lobster) they didn't have one. So the bottle of procsecco came handy as a claw opener! All hail the mighty bottle!

It seems more and more difficult to find somewhere that is a pub that does good beer and good food. Around East London more and more places are turning into pretentious Cafe-bar places with expensive / not very good food and lousy beer.The King Eddie stands out as a good honest boozer. When we got home from an evening out at the King Eddie, my Mrs realised she had left her purse on the table. Went back and staff were brilliant and found the purse. Can't help wondering if we would have had the same sort of treatment in some of the places that seem to open up and close down just as quick in the East End.Great pub for a great night out.

Good old British pub. Busy over the weekend as they have a reasonable selection of beers at good prices. Evening meals are a bargain. It would be more attractive with a good clean.

This was a great place for Pre-Gig drinks, nice atmosphere, great beer selection, and reasonably priced. well worth going in prior to visiting the stadium.

Great pub, big choice of belly filling food on menu and choice of beers. Very welcoming grin and 'I'll look after you manner ' Tiago ' barman who can spot a nat's hair on a table at 500m. The pubs old and worldly and as usual the real oak slightly battered tables and chairs you don't want to get up from. I suppose you can go down the road and find a lovely formicared topped modern place to eat if you want to. Bigger than it appears has three rooms and a small garden round back too (in the middle of London but of a surprise!).

Over crowded, music started at 19:06 and was extreme - not the pleasant. The toilets are a disgrace - please do something quick quick. On the other hand The Little Piggy (mine) and my wife's Stripe were excellent. Would I rush back - I have to think that one out.

Niet zo goed onderhouden gebouw. Binnen oude banken en stoelen in het achterste deel. Buiten terras . Genoeg soorten bier op de tap. Bij west ham wedstrijden komen er ook veel hammers supporters . Hier niet gegeten

Went in the afternoon to have something to eat. Burger was mediocre. Staff service not great. As soon as some of the football supporters came in , one of the female bar staff started shouting and hollering across the bar to her colleagues. Not very attractive, considering she wasn't doing this earlier. The toilets are absolutely awful and dirty. The area around the taps are black with grime. In front of the toilet entrance there is a type of manhole that totally reeks of smelly drains. Not nice in a place that sells food. But now that they are busier with the football, this dirty pub probably appeals to the football supporter.

Won't be rushing back. ate twice here for Sunday lunch first time was ok second time half the food was cold and the other half wasn't cooked had to send it back. They gave me my money back which was fair. This place has good potential but definitely needs to improve on food side of things .

A very upmarket pub which serves basic pub food. Was mildly impressed with the surroundings but unfortunately expected more from the menu. Price range is good but then again expected more due to being in a beautiful building.Ordered the Garlic prawns for starter, were too hot to open for at least ten minutes, was tasty but nothing special. Had the satay chicken salad for main, again was just a chicken salad with a big dip of satay sauce.... Tasty but yet again nothing to rave about .

Don't be put off by the slightly shabby exterior. Lovely pub inside with dark panelling & low ceiling. ...imagine Ross Poldark striding in!! Great atmosphere, service & food.

This was the 5th time dining here as the food was always on point however we shall not be coming back again...even left a review here in 2013. Ordered the 9oz steak for myself and my partner requested for medium rare, daughter went for bangers and mash. Menu stated that steak didn't come with chips so I ordered two fries, one skinny and one fat. When the food arrived the steak which should of been the star of the plate was hidden by onion rings, the 9oz steak was a thin slice of beef which looks like it came from their sunday roast beef left overs, dry and rubbery, no way near the size or thickness of a 9oz steak or even cooked like a steak - medium rare I requested but they couldn't do that as the meat was too thin and no mushrooms they didn't even care to explain! They also added fat fries to fill up the plate, they added fries to try and compensate but they knew I ordered two already as sides. As we ate the more we felt deceived and got put off a quarter way through eating and decided to just get up and leave. Wanted to complain but didn't see any staff for quite some time so we just left, they were lucky we paid in advance not so lucky for us though. We came on a Tuesday for my partners B'day Lunch) Massive disappointment!

Visited this Pub with half a dozen pals before and after going to watch England V Australia - Rugby League @ Olympic Park ... Good atmosphere ... good old fashioned pub ... Staff were very welcoming and friendly ... We also opted to eat here ... Food was reasonably priced (and yes I'm a Yorkshireman) ... and was well presented and very tasty .. nice place ...

I visited the pub after the England V Australia rugby game at The London Stadium with 6 other thirsty rugby fans. Asked for a pint of London Pride,they'd run out of it, no problem so I had IPA after a couple of pints, they ran out of IPA, ok I'll have Guinness after one pint they ran out of Guinness. No real ale and no Guinness so I tried Carling lager and yes, true to form they ran out of it !!If this pub wants to attract and keep sports fans visiting it really does need to get its act in order.

Six of us were staying in Stratford overnight and we were looking for a real ale pub that also did food on a Sunday night.We found the King Edward but unfortunately the real ale had run out and some of the meals that we ordered were unavailable. However the staff were very accommodating and we ended up having a very pleasant evening. The food was reasonably priced and of a high quality.We will happily pay a return visit if we are in the area again.

The decline of this once great pub continues. It's not terrible, particularly compared to most of the other pubs in that part of Stratford but the very obvious lack of investment over a number of years now is catching up. The toilets continue to be a disgrace although at least there is often soap these days. Still no hot water though!! The food used to be amazing, now it's just okay. Pie and mash I had last time had a suspiciously frozen supermarket own brand feel to it. They used to do specials and change the menu quite regularly, now it all feels a bit stale. The pub is often empty, even on a Friday night which used to be absolutely buzzing. It just feels like such a waste. If they invested and ran the place with a bit of pride and love, respect for their customers even, it would be the jewel in the crown of the local area. A good start would be to give the place a proper deep clean as it feels (and often smells) filthy. Loyal local customers are running out of patience and with so many new additions to the area offering tempting alternatives the decline will inevitably continue unless they up their game.

Use to pop in for a pint with my mates. Came in today and was surprisingly surprised. All place stinks of fish. Trust me not in a good way, being chef can say it's something fishy going on hahaha. Beer garden is 'refurbished' got some upgrades since last time. Roof over your head and few childish painting on the walls and 100% no fresh air. Pint of Peroni cost £5.20 and if you attend to pay on your beloved bank card (because never have cash) will be charged £0.50 so your total bill is £5.70 cheaper just cross the road and go for half price drinks.

Un bel vecchio pub situato nel quartiere di Statford, molto animato il venerdì sera con prezzi assolutamente popolari. Una birra 5 dl a 3.80 sterline, tanto per fare un esempio. Arg! I hate that I'm writing a negative review for this pub as it has such the potential to be amazing!!! It looks lovely from the outside, and the front bar is very inviting, the chunky chips are beautiful and would love to come back for food, but what we happening in room at the back???? A Saturday night, and there was a group of people singing or shall I say shouting down a Mic swearing - my friend was told not to enter and told to go back down to the bar so we couldn't even see what was going on. It was awful, couldn't hear myself speak, and people began to leave because it was so loud, at one point someone was just screaming made up words down the microphone, this went on for a good two hours. Why did the bar staff not say anything, and where was the manager....???? The second thing is the toilets, it contrasts with the pub so much. Cigarette butt on the sink, no toilet roll, a wet soggy floor, the soap dispenser not working and no where to dry hands :( Why are these toilets not checked? On a positive note, the drink is very well priced and some very interesting cocktails!! I ll visit again, but I just hope normal live music on a Saturday PLEASE

Visiting from Devon we decided to try find somewhere to eat locally. Found a nice pub we thought reminds us of home. Food was amazing so was the service from the staff. Staff were friendly and very approachable for advice and banter. Food was top notch, ordered the fish and chips, piggy burger and a lamb shank. All I can say is that it was amazing.Well worth the visit. Excellent!!!!!!!!

Nice and pub with lots of space inside. Beers are reasonable price. Two things I don't like about this place are:Poor staff hygiene (you can see that their hands are sticky and I never seen them washing them) Offers displayed on the walls aren't avaliable. Teasing with hot wine whole winter without actually having it was brutal

We are surprised to read some of the negative reviews of this pub. It was good to find a traditional pub in what is quickly turning into the brash modernity of Stratford. We like real ales and enjoyed a decent pint with a good, reasonably priced lunch. Yes there could have been more customers and the toilets need up-dating but overall a good spot to drop in.

A few of us met up for a drink and had a lovely evening at the "Eddie". Apart from their refreshing beers on tap, they have a massive range of spirits, great offers (a bottle of decent Prosecco is £12.99 on Thursday and Friday at the time of writing!) and then there is the food. We tried their burgers with curly fries (there were 3 of us) and they were absolutely delicious! The burgers were cooked to perfection and the salad was fresh and crunchy. 10/10 experience for us! We can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu!

Nice, traditional pub opposite the original Stratford shopping centre. Popped in for a quick pint and was pleasantly surprised by the venue and clientele. They sell Estrella on tap.

When a visiting friend said she'd read a favorable review about the King Eddy in Stratford and wanted to give it a try, I was quite happy to comply. The King Eddy has been a part of my life for the best part of 30 years although my visits have been more infrequent over the past few years.The menu looked fine to me - pub grub in the main, which seemed entirely appropriate for a winter's evening.Given that it was a Friday, and likely to be busy in the evening, I called at lunchtime and asked if they took reservations. I was assured by the guy I spoke to that they did and so reserved a table for two in the 'back' room (the events room?).When I arrived later that evening, a little ahead of my friend, and mentioned my reservation, I was met by a confused look from the bar staff. There was no record of my booking, it seemed. At one point I was asked who I had spoken to when I made the reservation, which I found mystifying - I don't usually ask the name of the person taking my booking - it's usually the other way around, right? One member of staff pointed at a small round table (with no chairs) at the front of the bar and suggested I grabbed that, whilst it was available. I wasn't happy with the table being offered and to the credit of the staff, they went off to look for another table and offered me a free drink whilst I waited. They eventually found us a table in the back, just as my friend arrived. We did have to wait whilst they cleared the table but I was happy enough because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the front bar (and away from the front door!).One has to place food orders at the bar at the Eddy, which is not unusual these days. My friend, very kindly offered to place our order and disappeared off in the direction of the bar. 15 minutes later, she had still not returned! Turns out they had a different menu behind the bar to the ones we'd been given and when she'd tried to order my pie and mash, the staff member had to ask her where she had seen pies on the menu as he couldn't see them on his. Bit odd given there were several pie options on our menus (ie.a whole section on the menu devoted to pies!). So, even placing our order turned into a bit of a mission.So far, not so good..... however we'd bought a bottle of wine and were happy to catch up with each other whilst we waited for our food. Which didn't take too long but unfortunately, to our surprise, all of our food turned up together - our starter and our mains. At this stage, we decided to go with the flow - I think part in fear that if we insisted they took our main courses back to the kitchen, we'd never see them again... or worse! The staff put the food down on our table and walked away. Half my meal was missing and after waiting several minutes for someone to return with the rest, I went to the bar to ask where it was. I was told by a rather impatient staff member that it was on its way but perhaps he should have said that back at the table? Given all of the other mishaps we had faced so far, I could be forgiven for thinking they might have just forgotten to bring me part of my meal. Incidentally, the vegetables, when they finally did arrive, consisted of 4 tiny broccoli florets! I wish I could say that the wait for the food was worth it but alas, to my absolute horror, my pie was stone cold in the middle. Not just cooled down but ice cold. My friend's medium rare steak was like cardboard. We finally decided that enough was enough and called one of the bar staff over to complain. To be fair, Jade, the staff member we dealt with was empathetic but I was not impressed when she initially offered to just refund my meal and not my friend's, which was just as sub-standard as mine. I insisted that they refund the entire cost of our meal, at which point Jade had to go off and seek permission from her manager to do so. I still can't believe that we were required to 'negotiate' with them. Even more incredible, when I asked to speak to the manager myself, I was told he wouldn't come out of the office!In the end, we got a full refund on the food and a bottle of wine thrown in (even then, they tried to palm off a cheaper wine on us, which we declined and asked for the same as we had bought earlier in the evening).All in all, a pretty awful experience! (Incidentally, that favorable review my friend had seen? It was written in 2012, when Stratford's meagre offerings were being bigged up in the press in the run-up to the Olympics. The Eddy we experienced bore absolutely no resemblance to the place described in that review.)

Caotico, con un buon assortimento di birre e tanta carne... insomma un pub inglese come tanti. Qualità buona ma nulla di particolare. Servizio ai tavoli poco disponibile.

Four of us turned up for Sunday lunch early in the afternoon. The food wasn't cheap, but the quality was appalling. It really was school dinners standard. Service was surly as if we shouldn't be eating at that time of day. We certainly won't be back and would recommend others to avoid like the plague!

Dropped by for lunch on a Thursday and the place was quite empty.It is a 400 hundred year old pub (I was told) but it lacks the charisma and character you would expect for such a venue.Food, service and prices were OK but I will not be back in a hurry.

This area is a real ale desert and King Eddie has generally provided a decent choice of real ales usually well kept. Not Good Beer Guide standard but ok and worth supporting. This quiet Monday evening was disappointing with only Doom Bar available and three hand pumps not in use. Half of Guinness then and off.

... Walls are full of promotions that aren't valid. Don't advertise hot wine if you don't have it!!! The worst of all its servers hygiene while handling drinks. Don't even want to think what is happening in the kitchen. Regardless it's still one of the nicest pubs I neighborhood

Never again. The wait was awful, the food was awful, the place stinks, the toilets are disgusting. Worst Xmas meal ever!
