We booked a table at the Kyber to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday as she loves curry and we have always had good quality sit down meals and takeaways from the restaurant. When we booked the table we just mentioned that it was my daughters birthday and that we would be bringing a cake with us.

Admittedly, clean and nice setting. The chilli starter wings were not chilli at all and needed more salt. The mixed grill was extremely dry. The curries we had were good and the naan was nice and soft. Nice finishing touch was the heated wet wipes, the orange segments as palate cleansers and the little chocolates at the end. The staff were pleasant too. Remember the poppadums that are offered at the beginning are chargeable.

Visited one Friday evening with friends. This restaurant was close and we thought we'd try it. I wish we hadn't. The food was bland the Popadom sauces where tasteless and watered down. The staff where rushed and rude. I think they cater for the drunk and expect people to forget the service. We where very much sober and plan to visit the other curry houses in swindon (definitely not this one again)

There were only 5 prawns, but they were big boys and more than enough for me. Plenty of tasty sauce and just spicy enough for me. This is a fantastic curry house with great quality meat and good tasting curry. Each dish is completely different and full of flavour. To eat in, or take out, this restaurant always comes up to scratch and outdoes any other curry house in the town. Staff are friendly and everything is very hygienic and well-presented. There are many mid-week offers on which make it a fantastically good deal finance wise. Personally I always have the chicken tikka starter which is delicious! Well marinated with onions and a little bit of sauce/juice that the chicken has been cooked with. In the restaurant it is well presented, served from a sizzling plate to add to the whole experience. I have had the chicken tikka massala as well as the chicken jalfrezi which I ask to be extra spicy. Mild or spicy, both curries come up to scratch and are delicious! Drinks are reasonable priced too and there is an extensive range of food on the menu. Absolutely nothing to complain about at this restaurant and would strongly recommend it!

Decent food; the lime pickle was particularly good, and the curries we had were nice but not that hot (even the one marked with three chillies on the menu).Service was attentive. Waiter didn't seem to know what the house wine was (Spanish white, Spanish red or Rose from somewhere!). That said, I was a bit hesitant to order such a house wine without knowing what it was, so they brought me a taster of it first and the wine was actually very nice. There are a number of really good curry houses in Swindon, and this one is pretty decent, so I'd return if I was nearby and it was convenient.

I stayed overnight in Swindon with 2 friends in a local hotel on 15 April and we decided to head to walk to the nearest curry restaurant for our evening meal. This took us to the Khyber restaurant a short walk away and seeing that place seemed reasonably well patronised we decided to try it out. We were immediately shown to a table adjacent to the window and ordered our drinks and popadoms with the pickle tray whilst we studied the menu. The restaurant is reasonably well decorated and was quite spacious inside. The drinks and popadoms arrived in a timely manner whish gave us chance to make our choice of meals. I chose the seekh kebab rfollowed by chicken rogan josh whilst my colleagues chose prawn puri, spicy chicken wings for starters and chicken madras and chicken tikka massalla for mains. Again the starters arrived a few minutes after we had finished our popadoms and were reasonably well presented, Whilst the spicy chicken wings lived up to expectations, both my colleague and myself were both of the opinion that our starters whilst adequate were both somewhat lacking in taste and spiciness. After finishing our starters we were asked by our waiter if we were ready for our main courses. These duly arrived with pilau rice and naans and were of ample proportions. Whilst we enjoyed the food we were all of the same opinion that we were somewhat underwhelmed by a slight lack of taste and spiciness similar to our starters. On completion of the meal out bill arrived in a timely manner. To sum up the service was very good, the ambience slightly above average but I can only rate the food as average and definitely lacking in flavour and spice.

I visited this restaurant originally with my partner in August and had a really nice meal that we described as one of the best Indian meals we have ever had. So we were super excited to try the restaurant again. Upon doing so we sat down and decided to get a take away. We felt like the gentleman who served us was very keen to get us to spend money on other meals and drinks etc which from a business perspective we understand however he missed one of the dishes off our order we realised when we got home (we only ordered two other dishes). The food this time around was atrocious, very poor and bland with no flavors and only marginally warm. Unfortunately this bad experience has put us off visiting again. Which is a shame !

There are several Indian restaurants close by in this part of Swindon and picked this one to try. This was mainly to try the lamb thali but found this was not on the new menu (it seems it is the old one on display in the window). In fact I was given the special menu (£6.95 for a traditional curry+ rice) but wanted the normal menu and had to ask for this. The food was generally ok. I had a lamb methi which tasted excellent but had a couple of bits of guffy meat. The seek kebab was quite small and bright red which always puts me off but tasted good. The general ambiance was pretty good and the service was excellent and very friendly. Despite being late on Wednesday there were plenty of other diners. Overall a reasonable and enjoyable indian meal but nothing special .

I have visited this restaurant quite a few times now and will continue to return because of the welcoming staff and consistently great food!I have been for an evening meal with my hubby, a double date with our friends and even a family meal with my parents. Every time, the food was delicious and the setting perfect. It may not be the best place for very young children as it has a very calm atmosphere and do not specifically cater for very young children. However, I would recommend anyone to visit on any occasion. I believe the staff make this place as they are tentative enough without being overbearing. They are always smiling and generally happy to help in any way they can.The little extras are nice additions too. Such as the warm hand towels you are given at the end of your meal and the slices of fresh orange to finish.A couple of points to be made:Car Parking - There are a few free spaces out the front of the restaurant but these are not generally available. I would sugget the most reliable and easiest place to park (Where we normally park) is the Morrisons carpark opposite the restaurant. Its not very far and generally only costs £1 for the evening. Booking - Reservations are taken although not neccessary most of the time. The restaurant can become quite busy on Friday and Saturday evenings but unless you are a large party bookings arent always needed. I would suggest simply calling ahead to make sure.So if you fancy an Indian or are looking for a place to have a nice meal out in Swindon, give them a chance. Im sure you'll come to love it like I do.

Having lived in Swindon for 8 years, I've tried a fair few of the take aways around the town and tried this based on the strength of the reviews here. Ordered a take away by phone and was told it would be 45 mins to an hour, so was pleasantly surprised when it turned up in around 30 minutes, but that was where the pleasantness ended as the quality of the food was appalling. We ordered two of the house specialities, but both of them were swimming in ghee. Even the rice was swimming in ghee (why on earth would you cook rice in ghee?). The meat was gristly and not very fresh, all of the vegetables were over-cooked and soggy, there was no heat or spice to either of the dishes and the rice had clearly come out of a packet and was also over-done. As curries go in Swindon, this is way below par. Won't be returning here.

We have normally had good service here, however this time we have had a very bad experience that was nothing to do with the food. We were even accused of pouring water over ourselves - even though we didn't actually have any water at our table! The waiter even had the audacity to say we were at fault by positioning the wine glass in the 'wrong place' on our table! My daughters mobile phone was dripping with wine and would not work and my wife's clothes were wringing wet - and yet the staff accused us of 'trying it on' to get a discount on our meal! Finally the manager tried to pull the race card by informing me that he was more English than I was - as if that had anything to do with it! As I said, our experience was nothing to do with the food, which was ok. It was the aggressive attitude of the staff and their refusal to accept that they were in the wrong. Not the place to take a family. We won't be going back, that's for sure!

I have been visiting this restaurant since the 60's and it is still the best for food and service. I would certainly recommend this to everyone.

The people of Swindon seem friendly and welcoming for the most part. This was especially so in the Khyber where I enjoyed a veggie Jalfrezi and side which arrived rapidly and were kept warm above a candle heater. I've had better before but the food was tasty and I'd certainly return, perhaps to try the veggie Thali next time.

Since moving to Swindon 4 years ago, we must have eaten at every Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in Swindon and have been disappointed to date. Finally we found The Khyber. We ate there on a Saturday evening in Feb 2014, not having booked and were seated easily. The waiters were attentive and the menu varied. We ordered a Chicken Balti and a Chicken Korai, both were fabulous. The Nan bread was the best I've ever eaten anywhere, being really fresh and light. Cobra beer was offered on draught as well as a there being good range of other drinks.Overall, I recommend this place fully. It's not the best or prettiest location, but once through the door the food and service are fabulous. Will be returning very soon, thank you chaps.

Being old enough to know really good food when I find it I can thoroughly recommend using the Khyber Restaurant. Obviously you focus first on the quality and taste of the food but these Guys go further than that..... and that makes SUCH a difference in these days of disinterested mediocre service.. Over all - damn excellent.. go book yourself a table soon. G

I visited for a friends birthday, as a large group we had booked ahead in order to secure a table. No one in our group ordered starters and we waited an hour and a half for the main courses to arrive. A fact highlighted by the customers around us whom has entered after us and left before we had eaten! Having attempted to order a drink several times we conceded that it was indeed hopeless, many of the staff appeared to be learning on the job and perhaps this was the reason for the length of delay. When asked why our meals were taking so long we were rudely told that "this is not fast food", a fact that was becoming alarmingly apparent. Once the food did arrive many of the portions were very small and thus people remained hungry. As a reward for the bush-tucker trial we had completed we were gifted a glass of Martini Prosecco by means of apology, sadly this had been switched with something not dissimilar to vinegar perhaps unbeknownst to the staff; and was thus undrinkable.

I have been visiting this place for some years. Normal currys are average but it's the chef specials that keep me coming back with dishes that are quite different, unusual and very tastyThis is reflected in the place being busy most nights of the week. But in recent times, the standard of service seems to be slipping. Even on the not so busy nights, one is often left waiting and the waiting staff often seem disinterested.I have since found better curry houses in Swindon within 5 minutes of this one with better food and much better service,

We ordered a takeaway and it took over an hour and a half to come. We phoned after an hour and they just said, another 20 mins, no apology. When it did arrive, the food was greasy, bland and the curries tasted the same despite being completely different. We asked for medium curries and there was zero spice and the lamb in one of them was chewy and frugal. As you can tell, I'm totally hacked off at paying for crappy food yet again.

My parents go here every single week, i have at least 2 a week from elsewhere. I must say we must be vindaloo Connoisseurs by now. My first vegetable vindaloo that they bought out tasted like Tesco curry sauce with chilli powder and a lot of it, I raised the attention of a passing waiter which quickly apologised, tool back to the kitchen, within 5-10 minutes a fresh main had been served as well as a replenishment of the rice I had used. Very professional and properly handled I think. We later came back for mums birthday for a table of 14.The staff had decorated the table and walls for us, after a great meal they bought out a birthday cake with candles and then just as we left presented her with a not small bunch of flowers.Certainly look after their regulars.

Was with a group of friends who basically wanted to drink and chat a bit longer so we found ourselves in here, as everywhere else was closed before midnight on a Thursday in Swindon-metropolis-of-Wiltshire. We had to order food in order to stay and I was really very impressed with my delicious king prawn dupiaza which was fresh and vibrant. Although I did not think I was that hungry I ate every bit of it! Nice, friendly service. It's great that this place is still going strong after all these years.

As always, the Khyber comes up trumps. We had a 18th birthday meal for our daughter, with a few of her friends. The service and food were excellent, and they even provided a birthday cake with candles and a verse of "Happy Birthday". This is always our first choice of Indian restaurant in the town.

Read the trip advisor reviews so as visiting the area gave it a go with the family, would have to say this was one of the best curries we have ever had, great sized portions and polite professional service from the waiters. The bill came to £77 for the 4 of us including a bottle of wine so good value too, well recommended .

We found the Khyber on google maps and then we went onto its website and saw this Sunday to Thursday deal where curry + rice would be £7, GREAT for us students!! We arrived at 7pm, sat quickly and felt like we had to order poppadoms while we decided on our main, which was a bummer because I don't like poppadoms and they were £0.75 each, which is quite overpriced for one I personally think.. The dips weren't that great either...HOWEVER, we all ordered a £7 deal, and each curry were served on a hot plate with a tea light to keep warm and a large portion of colourful rice. We were all really happy with our curries, very very yummy! I think apart from the £7 deal other things seem to be quite expensive (from a student's point of view), drinks were particularly expensive, like nightclub price. When the bill came it was hand written and indecipherable so we went up and asked to pay separately instead, they were happy to do so. Would definitely recommend anyone who fancy a curry to go there for the £7 curry + rice deal, I would go back to try other kinds of yummy curries.Oh the restaurant has many seating and it wasn't buzzingly busy, I probably wouldn't bother with booking.

I popped in here to join friends after a meeting. After not visiting for about ten years, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, the service and the value for money. Do not be put off by the fact this is a town centre curry house - it feels and is a real restaurant. There's plenty of space nd the whole place is very clean and tidy.

I choose the Khyber after pounding the streets of Swindon looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't a Wetherspoon's pub. It looks a better than average Indian from the outside.Alas, it is basically your usual run of the mill high street curry house. All the usual suspects are on the menu, starting with the mandatory poppadoms and dips.I recommend getting one of the specials. At least they are vaguely different from the norm. My biggest criticism is the food is laden with salt. They should use spices to add flavour rather than try to take a short cut.
