Myself and 3 colleagues booked for dinner, we arrived and there was only 1 waiter on duty. He sat us down came over with the menu and just put on the table and walked away. After a while he came back, we ordered drinks and before my colleague could order our poppadoms he walked away. The food was awful. The Pilau rice was brown in colour, pilau rice is yellow with cloves and cardamom this was not. The chicken tikka masala was awful, it was luminous orange and the chicken was tough. The chicken byriani was inedible, it was mega spicy, my colleague couldn't eat it. The spinach in the saag paneer was slimy, horrible food. Never going again.

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is fresh-tasting and quite different from “traditional” Indian restaurants. Sauces made with fresh tomatoes (not tinned), fresh ginger etc do taste different at first, but are wonderful. I am addicted to the samosas. The staff are always so kind and attentive. The owner is totally charming. We do visit this restaurant regularly and we have never experienced any problems, so I am rather perplexed by a few of the other reviews. It’s not cheap and cheerful, but it is stylish with delicious food.

I booked a table at this restaurant for me and my sister as it was her birthday. We did not know what to expect, as we have our usual Indian restaurant that we go to but wanted to try somewhere different. All in all, Khanage restaurant is a great, contemporary and very clean restaurant, with excellent service and food. The poppadoms with the mango chutney and other condiments were very tasty and our main was fresh, hot and full of flavour. Also, they have a great range of vegetarian options! Overall the service was great, but our waiter in particular who goes by the name Ambia was very attentive, friendly and was willing to help with food recommendations. My sister really enjoyed her birthday here, and we will definitely be back for great food, great service and lovely ambiance!

Possibly the worst curry I have ever eaten. Tasteless undercooked bombay potato. Flavourless oily lamb pasanda with huge slabs of uncut meat. Pilau rice was like no pilau rice I have ever eaten before. Just basmati rice coloured brown. Even the onion bhaji was horrible - not a difficult thing to get right.

The food at this restaurant is all freshly cooked and is delicious. The atmosphere was fairly regular - few other people at our 6pm meal. The main thing that let it down was the service. Not sure where they learnt to serve but items were knocked over and not really cleared away timely. Unfortunately out of the choice of 3 beers, only one was available so we missed out on the Wimbledon Gold. The staff were pleasant but just maybe inexperienced?

Went here a couple of weeks ago on my girlfriends birthday. We had a pram and baby in tow for our first night out in 10 weeks following the birth of our son so had been looking forward to our visit. When we arrived there were two tables taken...one a family of about 6, the other a group of 3...so the place was hardly busy. Upon arrival the only member of serving staff told us there was a 5-10 min longer than usual wait for food. To cut a long story short we spent an hour and ten mins there before deciding to leave having received no food. The waiter barely bothered to speak to us while we were there and certainly made no attempt to explain the problems. The place was also a mess. Other groups of diners had clearly left early too as there were half eaten samosas and half drunk pints scattered on nearby tables but no effort had been made to tidy up. When I told the waiter we were leaving, the manager/owner rushed up to apologise for the poor service, and explain that his head chef had walked out that day. It was just a shame that it had taken us leaving for him to come and talk to us and explain the problems. I wasn’t going to leave a bad review as the owner took our details and promised to contact us for a free meal in way of compensation for our bad experience. However, we haven’t heard anything so that feels like a hollow offer now. I would also note that the entire time we sat there waiting, constant takeaway deliveries were going out the door so I can only assume that Khanage is prioritising takeaway service over restaurant service now. All in all a real shame as this used to be a good restaurant which is clearly now experiencing problems.

Friday gone, myself and her indoors, ventured into Wimbledon SW19 for some food on our minds. We opted for Khanage, which is just across the road from the theatre, where we'd parked. We were given a nice table and decided to start with Mixed Grill Platter, which had a variety of lamb chops, chicken wings and tikka's. To follow we had a chicken jalfrezi(me) and chicken tikka masala(her) served with all the trimmings, pickles, rice and naan. We loved it and will definitely go back again.

Disappointed that the food really did not match expectations. The chicken tikka bhuna was sweet with no difference to a masala. No spice to enjoy. The sauce was also meager. The poppadom was served with what tasted like tomato ketchup- looked like all the dips came out of bottles. No lime pickle. The best flavours were in the sag aloo and the chapatis. I won't be recommending or returning to this restaurant- the management and kitchen needs to listen to feedback and the menu and flavours should be reviewed. It felt like a mistake to go here.

Literally the worst takeaway I’ve ever ordered. The chicken tikka masala (if that was indeed what arrived, which I am doubtful) was very bland, pale, thin and creamy. The only discernible flavours were clove, star anise and cream. It was not even mildly spicy, I could taste no chilli, garlic or ginger whatsoever. It had clearly been coloured orange with food dye because it was a garish, unnatural colour. The pilau rice likewise was unrecognisable as such. It was brown. It had no other ingredients besides rice. No cardamom pods. No cloves. No spices. No onion even. All the popadoms were broken. The naan bread was slimy. When I complained they said “this is how they make it”. I’m sorry but if you visited my (fictional) restaurant and ordered a cake, and I gave you a plate with flour, eggs and butter on it, you’d be well within your rights to say “hey, that’s not a cake!” And if I responded by saying “well, that’s how we make cakes here”, you would quite rightly tell me I was pulling a fast one and insulting your intelligence to boot. Khanage tandoori - don’t respond to this review to try and justify this meal, it was unjustifiable. Just take this as a lesson learned and improve your recipe, ok?

MORE AT TripAdvisor

It's hard to describe in words just how ridiculous this restaurant was to eat from when we tried to order a takeaway on a Saturday night in March. Our story begins with a visit to their website, where a phone number was impossible to find. We searched around and eventually found one via google, and called it, where a voicemail told us their number had changed (and read it out to us). Great! New number in hand we call the restaurant to find an answerphone. 4 calls later with no one answering we decide that online is the only way we'll ever get a curry.Going on their website it was clear they prefer online booking, all links pointed to their online ordering system and hey - we're millenials so we were totally down with that! We went through the order process and when we clicked 'order' we saw a screen stating 'order received' (with an order number), and that we can expect an email confirming the order. Amazing! Now the cynical amongst you can guess what happens next. No email to confirm came through, no way to track the order, and it seemed you can't even call them to check... the perfect storm of incompetence! We took the decision to drive 15 mins to the restaurant itself and check they'd got the order in person, hoping we'd all have a good old laugh about this with the jovial owners. No chance. I went into the restaurant, which in their defence was very busy, and tried to flag someone down. I finally did and asked him if he'd had our order. He grunted and asked what it was, I said our order number was 1981, he shrugged and said 'what was it?' and when I said what food it was he just waved his hand and said 'no, don't have anything'. No apology, no realisation that I'd driven all this way to check whether my CONFIRMED online order was being processed. Then I get a call from my wife. The food had arrived at the house! Hurray! So not only did they not seem to know if they'd cooked it, they couldn't care less either way! Exactly the kind of caring service you hope for from your local curry house.I tried to complain but was waved away again, with a face that read like 'You've got your food buddy, what's the problem?!' I'll tell you the problem mate, I've making a 30 minute return trip because you won't answer the phone and your website is laughable, and to top it off you won't even acknowledge that said situation is not exactly ideal! In terms of the food i guess I'll rate it, as I ate it, needless to say it was stone cold and with a bitter aftertaste of terrible customer service.Don't bother getting a takeaway from Khanage, unless you fancy a game of 'Where's my curry?', of which there is no winner.

We didn't have to worry though as there were only 2 other diners in the restaurant and only 4 more arrived before we left! The food was quite good although the starters were a little greasy (usually from slightly cooler than required oil when frying) but the taste of the dishes was very good. Perhaps the best pakora I have had for a while!I had the madras-style curry which was very hot, more like a vindaloo but that wasn't a problem but be warned if you think it will be milder.Perhaps not the best offering in the area but would go back again, just not too regularly I suspect

To begin with, I just want to say that I eat out regularly and know a few good Indian places in the area. From the outside this place looks decent, and I wanted to give a try based on the reviews too. To be honest I never expected much, but was hoping to find a new spot to eat at in Wimbledon. Place looked busy-ish, so we sat down. Not much of a hello initially, but that was fine. Drinks were served, food was ordered. Between starter and main we waited about half hour for our food... No attentiveness at all in the interim. It felt almost awkward. When the food arrived I was shocked at the portion size of the daal and potato curry(see pics)a few spoonfuls and it would have gone. Barely enough for 1 person. Sadly we never finished anyway as the flavour was so average and not remotely authentic as advertised. Then the tandoori prawns arrived that we ordered..... The whole 3 of them :/ They charge you £12 for 3 prawns...Discuss? I asked the waiter why there was 3, to which he replied "you should have got the curry, there was more in that?!"Anyway. After all this, we paid and left and they never even said Bye or acknowledged us. Not sure how they think charging customers for basic, extra small portions is acceptable ( perhaps the rent is high?) Hey ho ! My verdict is food was mediocre and overpriced and service was non existent. Shame, hope they run with this feedback and make some changes. Don't think I will be going back.

I had a lamb jalfrezi - asked how hot I wanted it (nice touch) and it was well spiced and very tender. Portion sizes are good - six mains, few rice and sides, couple drinks each worked out at £24 per head including service. Very good value for a quality meal.

We were Walk-in clientele, booking is recommended. After a fantastic day at the home of Rugby a good meal was necessary, an Indian Curry won the vote so finding a place was required. Khanage looked welcoming and a table was found. It was very noisy with people speaking louder to make themselves heard, which exasperated the problem. The waiter took our order soon after entering. He was a little pushy, but not to the extent of being bad mannered. The wait was quite long with two requests from 'pushy' to reconfirm our order, a little annoying. Once the food arrived our annoyance at the noise and reasonably long wait evaporated, the food was excellent and tasted as we had hoped. We had a variety of dishes all of which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The place was spotlessly clean with the restrooms being a good example of how restrooms should be kept. I have no hesitation in recommending this place and would return knowing I will enjoy the food it offers.

Since Khanage in Wimbledon won in the National Curry Awards, I had been keen to visit. We went on a Saturday night and in Wimbledon Broadway, that’s likely to be busy. It was; but we’d booked so all was well. It was crowded but not too noisy and the modern style of décor was pleasing. Overall, service was efficient and friendly, even though it was slowed by sheer numbers of clientele. The menu is wide-ranging and tempting and the portions generous. I enjoyed my chicken kebab starter and lamb pasanda main dish, but my one small criticism was that I felt that the lamb meat flavour was over-whelmed by the sauce. A very pleasant evening out and we will certainly go again but on a quieter night, and we will try different dishes.

With our usual go-to restaurants fully booked (Hi Bangkok in South Wimbledon is always packed now), we decided to try somewhere new in the local area. I'd passed Khanage hundreds of times and had been meaning to try it for some time, so this seemed like a good opportunity. Based on our experience (myself and four friends), I can't understand some of the criticisms of the staff. For us, at least, they were helpful and attentive for the duration of the meal. The decor is nice as well, nothing too fancy but still inviting. The food on the whole was really nice, with the array of curries being the heroes of the menu. The sag aloo was a standout as well- good enough to take any remains back home with us.The prices are what you might expect for the area; on this occasion, it was a little more than we were used to but still nothing outrageous (approx £33 per head, including drinks). It's worth noting that service is added to the bill.Khanage isn't the best curry house you'll ever go to and it's not the cheapest, but for a nice meal in the Wimbledon area it's a solid choice. We'll probably be back for a return visit before long.

Enjoyed a good meal here. Had a nice selection of dishes which were all tasty. Unfortunately we were seated by the front door, so got cold every time people came in or out. Also, the loo was so cold I could see my breath!

What a load of rubbish in terms of service - can’t comment on food as we never got any. I went there a couple of Fridays ago at about 10:00pm. It had been a very busy night in the pub, loads of people about, and my son & I thought we would try out this place, we had read some good reviews and were looking forward to it. We half expected not to get a seat as everywhere seemed very busy.We walked in and surprisingly it was deserted apart from a huddled group at the rear of the restaurant (who we eventually discovered were the staff!). We stood there waiting ... and waiting ... until somebody could be bothered to tear themselves from the group and sauntered up to us. He mumbled something that we guessed was table for two, we confirmed yes and he pointed to a table. He was holding menus and dropped both onto the table without bothering to hand them to us or making any eye contact, told us the staff were on a break, and sauntered off.An elderly couple were also there who were hidden behind the counter with some takeaway bags, and they said the food was good, so despite the lack of interest in us we chose to wait.We waited ... and waited ... and waited for 10-15 minutes. No other customers came in or needed to be served, just us, and not one member of staff approached to ask if we wanted drinks or the usual popadoms, nothing at all, they didn’t give a toss about our presence. After our prolonged, dry and hungry wait, we both decided we had had enough, said a very mild stuff this (no we didn’t, we actually said something else much worse!) got up and walked out. They could not have cared less about us, empty restaurant, a lot of staff, two customers and not so much as a goodbye from them as we left, we will never return.Walked to Chutneys, we had been looking for a good place to attend pretty regularly and never tried either restaurant before. Chutneys was packed, busy and lively, immediate table, instant, very friendly service and good food at a good price, we will return to them and recommend anyone else does so too, and will seriously recommend nobody bother with your restaurant.

Today on Valentines day, 14/02/2017, me and my mrs went to this highly recommended restaurant, which was hardly 5 min walk from Wimbledon Station. Very nice place, great ambiance. Clean and tidy. Staff was on point - service was immaculate. Food was good, they had Koftay on their menu, which i ordered and my mrs ordered Tikka Masala. However, being very particular about food, I found the restaurant very westernised compared to its original and authentic Indian flavours. What I meant is, everything we ordered was not up to authentic Indian style flavours. Something who likes actually Indian spicy food, probably not the place for you.Nonetheless, my experience was great.

Pre theatre early Sunday evening meal. Not busy so service was quick. We had a poppadum each with chutney and yoghurt but no onion and tomato salad we've always had elsewhere. We shared a pilau rice which was an unusual brown colour with none of the bits we are used to in it. We shared a naan bread which was really nice. We had a chicken Karahai a balti style dish which was spicy but otherwise pretty flavourless and didn't look appealing. A chicken tikka massala which was very thick but not tasty. Both dishes had generous amounts of chicken. There were several awards on the bar but as far as we were concerned they are living on past achievements if they are genuine. We will not be going back.

Waited 20 minutes for the menu, starters took 35 minutes to arrive and when we had been waiting 45 minutes for the main course to arrive the waiter when asked said we are busy with takeaways. Tables left messy, grease on boards. Will not be returning to what I can only disrupt v e as the worst Indian restaurant that I have had the misfortune to go to.

Best Indian/Pakistani food I have ever had after visiting London for 40 years. It's that good! The owner is delightful and loves a chat. The recipes are his Mother's and it reflects home cooking from Lahore. So not miss this place. Lots to choose from, super fresh, and a full bae. Just go there.

My wife and I were taking my elderly mother to a show at Wimbledon Theatre and wanted a restaurant close by for a pre-show meal. Khanage ticked that box and then a few more with the standard of the main dishes we had. Service was very good too but my mum was disappointed when the pudding she wanted wasn't available. Step in the super helpful owner Anwar who took her address and delivered her a portion the next day even though she lives in Sutton. Now that's what I call going the extra mile

Went in for a pre-cinema bite. Arrived and was seated at 8.30, needed to leave by 10pm, ordered immediately. Starter was slow - arrived at 9.15 which concerned us, more so the waiter returning 10 minutes later asking if we had ordered anything. By 9.30 becoming more concerned, so we called waiter over to ask how our food was getting on. Five more minutes we were told. One further reminder later, by 9.50 it was clear that even if it did arrive we'd have to wolf it down in a gulp to make our film, asked them to cancel the food and we'd settle up for the drinks and starter. Manager's reaction rather disappointing. "We're not a fast food restaurant, lads, and it's a Friday night you know". We calmly pointed out that we appreciated that but 90 minutes should be long enough to expect a main course to arrive. No apology offered. Won't be returning. Film was excellent.

We decided to eat here one sunday afternoon and were left very disappointed. We decided to visit as we saw this particular restaurant has won awards and wanted to try it out. Firstly it was more or less empty on our arrival and stayed that way for the duration of our meal. The decor was warm and nice. Waitor came over and took drink orders, sadly no mango lassi. He took a while to return to take food orders but that didn't bother us. We ordered our mains plus sides ect. We waited forever for our food to make an appearance that by the time it actually did we were almost not hungry anymore. Finally the food made its appearance, the portion sizes were fine but the food was lacking a lot in flavour.. we both ordered different curries but mine tasted like the chicken tonight jars you get in the supermarket to put honestly. The service was not only slow but the waiter was miserable. Again waited a while for the bill.. fine, waiter returned and I asked very clearly if we could pay 25 pounds cash and the rest by card, he seemed to understand then proceeded to take my card from the table whack it straight on the contactless machine he had, without even letting me check the amount, it was the wrong amount. Then flustered about, no apology, trying to get change for the cash half of our payment. He mumbled what sounded like "that was a mistake with the card", when the actual mistake was him not listening. They should change the spelling from khanage to CARNAGE because it was absolute carnage.

Me and two other guys had been working on a building site above the resteraunt for a while and the manager of the premises had offered us lunch before. The first time we had a lunch time platter each and it was perfection. A chicken curry, vegetable curry, rice and naan all included in the deal and each was amazing. The flavours could possibly be some of the best iv tasted in a curry and their was nothing to criticise at all. The second time we had chicken tikka wraps just to eat in our lunch break and even these tasted like heaven. We returned a few months later (early November) and again was invited in for lunch. This time we chose a curry each and it blew the first curry out the water. Superb food and quality. The decor inside is absolutely beautiful and the staff (manager and chefs) are all such friendly and delightful people. We all hope we are in the area again someday to pop in. Top top job and highly recommend for anybody in the area whether it's a quick business lunch, a romantic meal or a group dinner. You will not be disappointed. 10 out of 10.

A good welcome, pleasant modern decor and attentive service. For us the tandoori was a little on the hot side but the flavor was good and the meat tender. This is the best Indian restaurant we have found in Wimbledon and it gave us a pleasant evening. The only downside was that we were slightly disappointed that their offer of double Nectar points could not be honored because their machine was out of order.

Party of 6 on a Friday evening. Restaurant was extremely busy so glad that we had booked in advance. Staff friendly and helpful especially as one of our guests arrived late and staff were flexible allowing us to spend considerable time on drinks, poppadoms and dips. My friends all enjoyed their food. My only criticism was that their biryanis were a bit on the dry side as served with a yogurt source rather than a vegetable curry source that I am more used to under other variants of Indian cuisine. Deserts were interesting and well presented but I am not a great fan of Indian desert as they are a bit sweet for my palate. Food hygiene rating 5 out of 5. Good value for money and worth a good tip for staff.

I had arrived in Wimbledon that day and after unpacking decided that I would look for some food. It was after 9.30pm and I came across Khanage, had a read at the menu and went inside. In all honesty I expected the staff to say that they were closing up - however I was welcomed in and had a lovely meal. Service was excellent - as even though I was the only customer and it was now nearly 10pm there was no rush to get me out the door. They also do a lunchtime menu at very reasonable cost - I will be back.

Khanage sings its own praises upon a board outside advertising its recent success in the London Curry Awards. This does much to increase expectations and thus make it more difficult for these to be fulfilled. It's certainly very good by the standards of a suburban curry house. It's a clean bright place with a slightly confusing menu starting as it does with favourites or specials before listing starters then mains by fish or meat then biryanis. On the online menu I'd seen a two-course meal for two for £30 (save £9.60) which I couldn't find on the in-house version. It also advertised Giant Cobra which my wife and I were keen to share, but we were told, without explanation, it wasn't available. Single pints nevertheless sufficed. Poppadoms were good but not the freshest we've ever tasted. As we waited for our mains to arrive a waiter behind us squeezed portions of chutneys from enormous bottles into the small containers placed upon tables. The curries we chose, a lamb pasande for myself and a chicken for my wife, were nicely served in metal pots. My lamb Pasande was in a thick onion gravy and was not Lamb Pasanda which comes with a creamy sauce. No complaints either about my wife's chicken curry not indeed the aloo gobi or plain nan we had ordered as accompaniments. But my daughter's three items from the multiple choice children's menu which elsewhere might have been served first, in fact, came last, with one of our two rices, substituting a rather watery dal for the mini/poppadoms we'd ordered. Two adult-sized poppadoms came along when we pointed this out. Final impressions. An enjoyable Indian meal meeting high standards in stylish surroundings from a rather unadventurous menu. Very good yes, but superlative, as good as or better than Painted Heron in Chelsea or Chutney Mary now in Mayfair or with the atmosphere of Bombay Brasserie in Gloucester Road, I don't think so.

Do not be deceived by the many people eating at this restaurant, we were terribly disappointed by the food and overall experience here. Visited for evening meal whilst staying in the area on business, I would normally go for something with lots of meat but the waiter tempted me with their version of a lamb Pasande... I can't say I have ever had one like it before as this dish is usually loaded with creamy sauce rather than their onion puree based sauce with was certainly a pleasing surprise. the curry was very tasty and my only complaint would be it was a touch on the small side. The mushroom pilau accompanying was very good and loaded with mushrooms and the opposite to the curry as there was really enough for two. The pickles accompanying the poppadoms were a little basic and I would have liked to have seen some mixed or lime pickle. The only thing I could really fault was a portion of onion bhaji which were hard and could not really be described as proper onion bhaji's.On the whole though a nice little restaurant and I would certainly visit again... Next time though it will be their signature mixed grill platter. I would certainly recommend anyone to try this restaurant.

Dinner before the theater, which was a cross the street. The staff at the box office told us that it won a recent food award of some sort and that the we should mention her name. Prices were mid to upper for the menu. Had veggie curries and go withs. They were overall better than average. Wife liked the curries. Service was sincere but untrained. They kept coming back to ask whether we wanted something, that in other places was included, and then telling us there was a charge for it. Not entirely the class A experience we hoped for on a "big night" out. When we asked for the check as the place filled, they seemed to forget us. We were pressed for time and almost begged to take care of the bill. For the price and the pretense of the place, expected a better overall experience. Having said that, there seemed to a fair number of local regulars returning for dinner.

I had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant with my family from out of town. Wow! The service , the variety of dishes and the decor all make for a fantastic night out. The waiting staff were on hand but unobtrusive and no request was too much trouble. Rather than tasting as if the food was dashed together in a hurry, each dish had subtle deep flavors which complimented each other. You can taste the spices and marinades in each dish which makes such a difference from the proverbial chili doused takeaway.. The recommendations, made while we were allowed to take our time and study the menu, were spot on. A gem in the middle of Wimbledon which offers a special night near home. Bravo!!!
