After a few (or more) drinks, my husband and I were after somewhere to have a late night meal. After googling what was still open, we settled on Chutneys. We were shown to a table and given plenty of time to choose drinks and food, despite the late hour. The food was fantastic. I had a mild chicken dish (can't remember what it was called) and my husband had a whole tandoori chicken. I've never seen a dish like this in an Indian restaurant but he said it was delicious. As was the garlic naan, which was really light and not at all doughy. Really good food and friendly service.

This was the first time I had visited this establishment. We enjoyed the food, the service was good, and the staff were accommodating. The only negative of the evening was how close the tables were to each other, but that didn't have a detrimental impact on our overall experience. I would return in the future.

Having sampled curries all over the UK since 1984, I can honestly say Chutneys is as good as it gets. If their food was not good, I wouldn’t bother with the place, but it’s excelent. My favourite is the lamb Dansak.

What can I say, genuinely love this place. Kindness and attentiveness from the staff, along with a great tasting selection of dishes. The Lamb Rajeshwari really did hit the spot. Soft tender lamb with a kick of hot spice. You must try this restaurant at least once.! Trust me you will be coming back again and again. I was always confused why two Indian restaurants are next to each other. However I definitely feel this one is the one to choose.

Living near Tooting, nearest cinema is in Wimbledon. We are spoilt for Indian food there because it serves an Asian community as well as us indigenous people. We went to Chutneys after a movie. It would not survive there. The menu is ridiculously long. How the good citizens of Wimbledon think that any of the dishes can be properly prepared in that context I don’t know. First some pluses. Good service but hints of the old imperialist obsequiousness still apparent. Popadums warm and crisp, clearly freshly grilled and tasty chicken tikka and a fresh warm spongy nan bread. There the praise stops. The Lamb rogan josh was a disgrace. I have made much better myself. They cook so many curries by placing the main ingredient, in this case already cooked lamb, their lamb tikka I suspect, though it looks like the cold remainder of a Sunday roast, in a karahi wok and then throw in a ready made sauce tweaked maybe with different spice combinations. That is not a curry. The chick peas were also grey and tasteless. It’s about time we called an end to this type of curry house. There are now loads of authentic ones specialising in one region of India or Pakistan equally cheap or Indian restaurants really pushing the creative boat out understandably at a cost. Citizens of Wimbledon get on the bus down to Tooting if you want to sample better Indian food. You will not be disappointed.

I should couch my review in context of the fact that there were 20 of us for a family celebration. Having said that we had booked in advance so the restaurant should have been prepared. And it was a very hot evening. But the two waiters serving a full restaurant were clearly overworked, showing signs of fatigue and struggling to keep up with orders. The food was good and low-mid priced. I had a lamb dhansak that was ok but nothing special.

Booked a table for 6. 2 friends coming from Ireland and friends from local area. After a great day watching the rugby we headed for the restaurant only to be told they didn’t have our booking. I showed them the booking on my phone and they basically said if it’s not in their book I didn’t make a booking, even though I showed them I had made the booking. Very rude and non apologetic, I let down all my friends but they didn’t care. Customer service non existent. I chose this over my usual establishments as been next door to sister restaurant but never been here. Would never go again would never recommend, so angry that they ruined our evening and didn’t care.

I am a very big fan of India so I go to India every year and while I live somewhere else, I go to Indian restaurants from time to time. This restaurant was the worst experience I've ever had! I ordered Palak Paneer which came with a wee bit spinach, not even a pinch of spice and over cooked paneer that had the consistency of leather. The spinach was not like a creamy sauce made with the blender, but chunky. This is NOT how you cook Indian food! Also, my garlic naan didn't taste like garlic because there was no garlic on it, it was just something like a butter or sauce with not even a wee bit of garlic taste. The food was just bland like there was no Indian person cooking in the kitchen. How can it be so messed up? Also, the staff was really overwhelmed by a full house and didn't treat us very nicely. I tell ya guys, the only reason why this over priced restaurant has so many stars is because no one knows how real Indian food should taste! Just go there where people eat who are born in India and not where are only westerners.

7 of us went for a staff meal, table booked for 7.30 on a Friday evening. Initial impression was good, nice ambience, spacious and modern. Prawn puri starter was nice if not exceptional. At 9pm the mains eventually turned up, they wasn't exceptionally busy so I don't know why it took 1.5hrs to turn up. Perhaps they were trying to bump the bill up with the £5 pints of Cobra/Kingfisher? My main was off their "Chutney Specials" menu and I had high hopes for the Gosht Kata Massala, {Juicy succulent shredded lamb braised golden in clarified butter with diced onions, sliced ginger, crushed garlic all marinated in Chutneys own recipe. A medium dish made even hotter if you dare to bite into the red chillies accompanied with the dish} That's their description, my description is dry pulled pork on a popadum. I wish I had gone for a traditional madras or patia as I found a dry dish with keema rice very hard to eat especially with a naan bread. Others who had chicken passanda and korma were more satisfied so I'd stick to "normal" curry dishes if I went again. Bill for 7 of us was £30 per head inc tip. Bearing in mind 3 of the ladies drank tap water and the fellas had one pint of lager each I'd say it borders on being expensive for what it was. I can think of several places I visit regularly that the food is better and I can get coffee with free refills and still walk out paying £25 so it's unlikely I'll go back again.

For two decades, Chutneys has been evolving. It has gone from being a run-of-the-mill curry house to a modern, assertive and up-with-the-times establishment. The service is slick and speedy, the food is very good, and while Chutneys is very small in comparison to most other Indian restaurants, its standards are impressive.I fancied prawns, and I like hot dishes. But I never feel you get full value for money from king prawns. So I went for a regular prawn jalfrezi (even though it wasn't specifically listed on the (long) menu.No problem. It cost £6.95 (the king prawn version would have been around £11), while the accompanying pilau rice was very good (perhaps not as plentiful as the dear old Ahmed was until its sad recent closure) and the peshwari naan was top drawer. The popadums were thin and crisp, the chutneys as plentiful in portion as the restaurant name would suggest, and with both Kingfisher and Cobra on draught, the drink options are good too.So what are the downsides? It is a poky little place. They've done what they can to maximise the space by reducing the meet-and-greet bar at the front to little more than a cubicle, but the loos are tiny and an awkwardly placed pillar interrupts the sightlines. But for all that, Chutneys is recommended. My jalfrezi packed a punch, and while the vegetable dishes (£2.95 apiece) weren't huge, they were full of flavour.I'll be back for more.

I went for my Sisters birthday as a family meal with 3 of us. We all wanted to try different curries and asked a young waiter for his recommendation and a bit more of descriptions of what each of the ones we had been looking at were. He was soo helpful and took a long time saying what the equivalents were to what we usually had and also advising us if we wanted something that stated it was hot or mild we could ask it to be changed to the other. We took his advice and had 3 delicious meals, also had sides and starters of Nann Bread and Onion Bhajis which were equally lovely. Quick service, tasty food (good portions) and helpful staff. Two turned up un-booked on Tuesday; a repeat trip from a year back. I had a vegetable sizzler at £6.95, a plain naan, piau rice, two spicey popadoms and a large cobra beer.It is advisable to pre-book as there is no visible display on the shop front of the opening times; got there at noon - no sign of life! But coming back at 12:15-ish, it was open.My sizzler was visually and acoustically splendid, served on a cast-iron platter. It was very pleasant to eat, comprising many different thinly sliced and curled vegetables. I wasn't pressed to have more, other, dishes. My naan was hot, nicely browned, and not over-buttered and apparently fresh from the tandoori. It was a return visit for my companion, too, so he was happy with the venue. The range of deserts was not sampled, though it may have been from a brought in supplier, frozen, I suspect.Chutneys do not accept American Express.Toilets not tried on this visit.Amply fed, and seated at a table for 4, we concluded our paperwork uninterrupted.2 Waiters were courteous and attentive. We had been the only customers at this time.

I'll get the complaints out of the way first: We had booked a table for 7 people on a Friday night, obviously a very busy time, hence our booking a table in advance. However the restaurant had somehow contrived to lose our booking, so we were told to go away until a table was free. A table was free 1½ hours after we'd originally booked for, and we finally got to sit down for dinner at 9.30 instead of 8.Onto the actual food: Papadums and pickles were great, and the lime pickle especially had a real citrus bite to it. My main was also very good: "Green chicken from Goa", with a properly (ie correctly) hot sauce, but very fresh tasting and full of strong, true flavours of garlic, ginger, chilli and lemon.I was less bowled over by my side of Choley (chickpeas with chopped tomatoes onions, lime juice, ginger and garlic), because the chickpeas lacked the nutty bite I like and therefore seemed either overcooked or from a tin. That might just be personal preference though, as I like chickpeas al dente rather than soft.My keema naan was (for me at least) a bit on the bland side, but my main complaint with the naan is I didn't get to finish it! Because we'd been served late the staff were clearly wanting to finish service for the night, and tablecloths and plates were taken away without any actual enquiry as to whether we'd finished eating. I had not.But to be fair the place was very busy, obviously very popular, and I would go again, although perhaps not on a Friday night.

Stopped here for a meal for two on a Friday evening. Food is lovely and the restaurant really clean and well presented. My only criticism is that you feel pressured to leave as quick as possible once you have eaten your meal, the waiter brought the bill to us without us asking which would be understandable if all the tables were full but there was some empty tables in the restaurant. It wouldn't put me off going back for a meal but would make sure I went back when I want looking to sit and take some time.

Had a curry along with a few beers at Chutneys on a Friday night. Good food mostly; nothing too exciting or differentiating though. Might go back again one day for a second chance, however it won't be in a rush

I love my Indian food & very rarely bother to write a TA review but this place is really really good. Visited for lunch on Tue 8 Nov, the food was excellent and the service great. The search for the best Indian in SW London is over!

Nice dining room, clean and open plan -bright enough. Food was pretty tasty, well flavoured and spiced - quite a lot of dishes to choose from. Portion size is good, although onion bhajees could be bigger. A Bombay aloo looked more like it was just spinach and a chana massala turned up though we didn't order it. Ate it anyway and it was very tasty! Friendly staff who were very pleasant. At £25 for several dishes and drinks it was very reasonably priced - would def go again.

I'm always up for a good Korma curry and Chutney's did not disappoint. We had a massive spread of food and everything was excellent. The restaurant is smaller so when you are seated, you're practically involving the surrounding tables in your conversation but the food is so good that you won't need to do much talking!

Been coming here for years, both to eat in and to take away. Very tasty fresh food. Some interesting and different dishes (eg shak shuka, and galinha xacutti) as well as your usual curry house classics. Family owned and run. Recommended!

I ordered a delivery as I live less than 5 minutes away by car. I was promised delivery within the hour and maximum 60 minutes. I then called back on the hour only to be told that the delivery had left and the food was made just 5 minutes before. 30 minutes later no joy and was then told the driver had left again and then in the same sentence was just leaving. The food was cold, the sauce has solidified and I was lied to. We will never go back and I would urge you to consider others who can meet demand and not keep their customers waiting Don't try

Had a fantastic chilli paneer starter - perfect! Really enjoyed it. The king prawn biriyani was not as spicy as I would have liked and the prawns were hugely overcooked - hard and chewy. That said, the service was exceptional and the guys were genuinely friendly. The take away prices are clearly cheaper than the eat in menu so I was surprised to have been given a take away menu when I walked in and wanted to eat inside - only noticing when the bill came.

It was a family visit to this restaurant. Very plesant staff and curteous. We saw the reviews online and as we were in the area we decided to go and have our dinner there. If the chef got so many awards, food should be good if not great. On the contrary, it was terrible. We ordered different starters and main courses (mix of veg and chicken) and none of them were tasty. Avoid the south indian dishes. Not going back there. Good service, but sorry guys your dishes are abysmal.

Visited this restaurant in July 2016 and was very happy with the ambience, courteous waiters and high quality food & drink.Started with poppadums and superb chutneys. I had chicken tikka marsala and a shredded lamb dish the waiter recommended that was one of their specials. Also a delicious very hot nan and a sag aloo. They had two draft lagers, Kingfisher & Cobra.Left feeling totally happy with the service ,meal and the price.

Tried with a friend and her daughter tonight. Some food was very good (this lentil and bean in pancakes plus the Bengal fishcurry). Lamb tikka madali and chili panzer was surprisingly sweet -not great. Naans and dessert (coconut ice cream) was okay. Service was friendly and prompt.

Went here with grandparents and brother. The food was great, we had the Tava Gosht, Chicken Tikka Masala and King Prawn Balti with sides of Saag Paneer and Takka Daal. We also had rice and naan. The service was very friendly. The interiors were nice and modern.

Chutneys has a large selection of specials at the start of the menu which are particularly good. The starters were nice too. It's quite a small dining area so some of the tables are quite narrow when you are trying to share all your dishes.

Decided to go for dinner at Chutneys due to the positive reviews and we were not dis appointed. Our overall experience was positive. The food is good, the prices reasonable and the service is very good. The waiters also take the time to explain the food and assist you with the food selection. Will return!

So hubby and I had been working our way through Wimbledon's take away curry options. There had been some highs and quite a few lows. Then we discovered Chutney's. Finally our curry dreams had come true : Outstanding food, bargain prices, amazing service. What's not to love? We would normally expect to wait 60-90mins for a peak time delivery on a Saturday night but with Chutneys it's never more than 40 mins. The food is piping hot and served in good quality take away containers. Once or twice a couple of dishes we'd ordered had leaked but the carrier bags they use are sufficiently robust to keep any mess to a minimum. The food is absolutely superb. Spice combinations so perfect I found myself eating dishes far hotter than I would normally manage. Onion Bhajjis without a hint of grease. Even a humble side serve of Raita was a taste revelation - Yoghurt and cucumber flavours exploded off the spoon. Finally I understood what all the fuss was all about!Highly recommended

We've been going to this restaurant for the past 15 years, so I thought it was time to review it!We are big fans of Indian food and the quality of both the cooking and the advice make this the place we always return to. I could talk for ages about the great service (and it is) but I want to concentrate on the food. I have recently given up meat, so my usual lamb Bhuna or chicken dopiaza were left alone on this visit. I chose the vegetarian thali, 8 dishes including rice, dal, vegetable curry, potato curry and bread, it all tasted so fresh and had flavour and spice rather than just heatDinner for 2 costs around £45 and it's never disappointing.

We have been customers for many years but we won't be anymore. We visited the restaurant last Saturday evening (6th Feb). Despite having made a reservation the day before, no reservation was noted but we were offered a table which was incredibly close to the table next to it. In fact, more tables had been added and these were also too close to each other to feel comfortable. We placed our order but advised the waiter immediately that we only had 90 mins as we were going to the cinema afterwards. He said that he would try his best to get our order processed in time. We waited for nearly an hour for the starter to arrive despite asking twice where our food was. Our order came out piecemeal in as much as I got the rice and naan bread but no curry. This had been forgotten about completely and so I had to wait for a further 10 mins for it to arrive by which time the rice and bread were cold. By now, we only had 20 mins left before we had to leave and so I bolted the food down. This was not a pleasant experience. There were problems in the kitchen as we were told later on in the evening but also a severe shortage of waiters. Sorry Chutneys, you used to be a restaurant which we could rely on consistently for good service, great food and a jovial atmosphere. Sadly we didn't have any of the above this time round and coupled with the close proximity of tables, our evening was truly spoilt and as a result we will be taking our custom elsewhere.

The food here is fantastic - in fact it is my favorite restaurant for Indian food. I have yet to have a bad meal here in 10 years of visiting. We have taken a number of staff suggestions, but have stayed with the Deshi Gosht - a lovely tomato and onion based dish with Lamb.We have also booked for large parties for birthdays (20+) and the attention to service and quality of food doesn't diminish one bit! Can't recommend highly enough - go get a curry.

I went here with my friend for dinner, the food was excellent, however i think we over ordered a little bit, as we began to feel very full once we'd finished around 3/4 of the food because it was so filling. I would definitely come back here and I now know what's too much.

As soon as we entered the staff were all very attentive and seemed to care about making your experience as pleasurable as possible. This was a good location for a leaving dinner for a colleague of long standing. Service was a bit slow but that may have been because there were thirty of us. It has a huge menu with lots of interesting little dishes. Food was good when it came and the bill was pretty reasonable.

This friendly Indian has been our get together restaurant for a long time.It is a very welcoming and comfortable place with a friendly staff. The food is excellent, generously served and well prepared. I have never left this restaurant dissatisfied in more than 20 visits, and I sure have never left it hungry. It is not an expensive place and provide very good value for money. We took the habit of taking there friends visiting us in London.Once the management will know you well, there is even a chance you will get sometime a free digestive to top your evening. For some reason it seems less busy than the restaurant next door, but don’t let this fool you. You should dine there.

My husband and I popped into Chutneys for a curry on a night out. It was a Wednesday evening and we arrived close to 8pm to find almost all the tables occupied - always a good sign of a popular eating place! However, they managed to squeeze us in. We ordered poppadoms to start while looking at the menu.p and chatting. We didn't notice but the manager decided that we had waited too long for these and sent along s few extras when they arrived! We chose a few chicken curries with naan breads and rice and these arrived promptly. The food was well presented and very tasty! We haven't visited for a while but we will certainly be back.

felt I had to submit a review when I realised that Indian Gossip as a restaurant does not exist any more and the food came from a takeaway in Wandsworth. The food was so late that we drove up to Indian Gossip and it is no longer there. this was also confirmed by the driver when he bought the dishes that were missing. This shouldn't be allowed as there is no way to trace where the food is coming from surely this is wrong. Food was really not good
