Cracking night with plenty of cold beer and a massive variety of dishes all served well and some really nice new ones I'd not tried before. The service was welcoming and friendly as well as the food arriving promptly and there was no sense of rush. The other people eating at the other tables were chatting to us too which I think demonstrates the friendly relaxed atmosphere.

We visited this restaurant as two couples on a Saturday evening (recommend that if you intend to visit that you make a reservation as it is always busy, especially at weekends. Being four of us we all chose different dishes which we shared and which all turned out to be excellent (clean plates being testament to how good they were). The lamb was particularly tasty. Service was excellent and the dishes all arrived at the same time.

I revisited here last weekend after a few years and again I was not disappointed. This is a proper curry house i.e. no frills and with good food and drink at a very reasonable price. As stated earlier this is a proper curry house therefore if you are looking for fancy décor this will not be for you, however if its a good curry and an Indian beer you want then this will likely be for you.

Just walked into this desi restaurant first time on last Sunday and tasted their buffet. Buffet was value for money. I liked starters like tikka, sheesh kabab and pakoras a lot. The restaurant is nicely decorated and worth visiting. Will visit it again for ala carte menu too.

I've visited Ahmed Tandoori (Wimbledon) on a number of occasions over the years but after our visit last night I'm afraid this will be the last. The food was reasonable although the chicken madras only had 4 pieces of chicken in it. But what really let this place down was the atrocious manners of the staff. We arrived at 11.30pm with friends joining us 10 mins later. We were asked to order in a fairly curt manner. Whilst we were eating we were asked to hurry up as the staff wanted to go home. When one of the women in the group responded we were still eating, the male waiter became argumentative and it was only after one of the men in our group waded into the discussion that the waiter calmed down. I understand that our late arrival was probably not ideal however if they weren't prepared to allow us to finish our meal they should have said they were closed. They were happy to take our money but not for us to finish our food. Appalling service!

Let me make this clear - this is NOT an Indian restaurant! It could probably be a passable Curry place but for those thinking this is traditional Indian, it is far from so (it would be fair to class this as Bangladeshi and/or Curry).Having said that, the actual Tandoor was not bad (can't afford to be otherwise because of the name of the place!). However, the worst part of the night (we were 5 diners) was that the Keema Paranthas we ordered (stuffed minced meat bread) were uncooked and the meat inside was stone cold! This seemed as though they were quickly prepared directly from their Tesco packaging! I guess they were under pressure as the restaurant was packed and service was slow, but can't be used as an excuse. They took this particular item off the bill but the damage had already been done.

Our first visit was over thirty years ago and the leading staff member now, I remember as a young man in the 1980's. Layout as it was then with a great traditional menu together with more modern specials like trout tandorri. Try the onion bargie the size of cricket balls x 2 for starters. Also good veggie choices. A well established restaurant that I understand was opened in the 70's. Enjoy quality food then Ahmed is a good traditional choice curry house.

Good service but that's about all.The popadoms tasted like they were cooked in plastic, which i can only assume is cheap oil.The meal tasted as average a curry as i've had. My friend and I had different meals, one chicken, one lamb. To say we both had bad guts the next day is an understatement of epic proportions. Menus given quickly and asked if we wanted any drinks so we asked for a coke and a beer. We went straight for main course of 2 pilau rice with a lamb sag and a lamb tikka, the portion size is just right. The waiter serves your rice onto a hot plates and he then puts a hot plate down which he then puts your curry on so you can serve yourself. Having really fancied an Indian we came across Ahmeds. The restaurant had a dark feel to it with no music so voices could be heard very clearly from other tables. When I asked where the house wine was from, the waiter said "maybe Italy, I don't know" and didn't offer to find out. The whole meal proceeded to be dull and disappointing. Paper napkins and reused old plastic spoons. There was plenty of volume to the food but no quality. This is not a place for a night out but maybe a quick takeaway.

Ahmed Tandoori has been given a ZERO hygiene rating by the Food Standard Agency. The most recent inspection appears to have been October 2014 with a new inspection due shortly. This information has been available to the public but I doubt many people would ever consider the fact that hygiene may be an issue at a well-established restaurant. To 'achieve' a Zero hygiene rating means breaching basic levels of safety within a kitchen. That could include unrefrigerated meat, vermin, food that could be a danger to health etc. It's absolutely disgusting. However the restaurant is obviously keeping this quiet. I personally will never be eating in this restaurant again. I think it's very important that anyone reading this passes this information to your friends. It's just not right.

Welcome was good, the place has an old fashioned almost tired feel to it but that is not really a criticism, if you have been to India then you won't mind the retro decor. The food was really nice which is the main thing, we had the set meal for two which was plentiful. I would eat here again, but if you want swanky decor or perhaps to impress a love interest then Undoubtedly there are better options.

A shopping expedition to Wimbledon, a recommendation by my daughter, and the central location culminated in our party deciding to stop by for a leisurely Sunday lunch.Warmly welcomed upon entering we were expecting the restaurant to be busy but because there were only a few diners we were able to be seated at a table of our choice. Although comfortable enough the interior was rather dark and in need of `refreshing' in some areas. Indeed I thought it rather like being in a time warp and reminiscent of Indian restaurants of the 1960s/1970s.After some deliberation we decided on starters of samosas and mulligatawny soup followed by the Special Buffet Lunch. Within a short space of time the first course arrived and I thought the added touch of a lemon wedge a pleasant additive to the soup. The buffet itself was quite varied and the individual chicken dishes really rather good. However, despite not being busy three fof the food containers were left virtually empty for some time and even after being brought to the attention of staff one was never replaced. It would also have been nice to have seen an offering of some salad as a side dish. Even the pickles to accompany the poppadoms were incomplete in missing the usual lime chutney.Overall I believe the meal represented good value and the buffet at £6.95 per person especially so with such a wide choice of eateries in the immediate vicinity. The drinks of Kingfisher beer and Stella cider were also inexpensive.

We have been regulars at Ahmed Tandoori for many, many years and it never disappoints. No, the décor isn't modern, and yes, pickles are served in the traditional way - but to us that's all part of the charm. No attempts at modernising the menu either, so after 20 years+ they still serve the tastiest chicken shashlick in London, and the most fantastic peshwari naan.We often take overseas visitors there, and nobody has ever been disappointed. Instead they rave about the flavours, and enjoy the classic old-world décor. And thanks to the very reasonable prices, we don't mind treating people either! Not for people who want the latest trend, or individual plastic packages of tasteless pickles, just fantastic food like it used to be. May they survive for many years to come, we wouldn't know where else to go for the real thing.

The restaurant only has windows at the very front entrance so the whole venue feels dark and close. The tables were so close together that you will be a part of the next table's conversation as they will be in yours! Waiters file up and down and apparently only one man can take your order, who will be in no rush to do so. In our case, after having waited an age to submit our order, we had finally begun to eat when a man rushes up to us offering the bill - apparently the motto is "we won't be in a rush to serve you but we will to invoice you". The distinctly ordinary, oil-drowned food could not save this restaurant's misgivings either. Our first visit to this restaurant will also be our last.

I've been here umpteen times over the last ten years with various friends. Me and my partner were there again last Saturday night and turned up without a reservation but had no problem getting a table as, I think, did the party of three men who arrived immediately after us. As always, the welcome we received was lovely, the food and drinks were fantastic and the service was prompt. And the "come back anytime" goodbyes were genuine. The only letdown was that I sat on the outside of a table that was situated over a loose floorboard which meant that I could "feel" the movement of EVERY single person (waiter or customer) who walked behind my seat - Ahmed, get the flooring fixed!

The popaddums were very average and the dips a too watery. Starters never made it to the table, the mains: chicken seemed a little dry and the lamb bhuna, well that was shocking, the meat was overly chewy. Such a great location, nice vibe but the food was terrible. When we mentioned about the starters and the quality of meat we got the silent treatment, the bill came and almost ushered out. They have a selection of lagers and the house red is a sensible Valpolicella that is only 12%. They have punchier wines if you want them. Service was quick, polite and efficient. I'm not usually keen on Indian cuisine and consented to our host's recommendation with some apprehension. I scoured the menu - which was extensive - for the least spicy dishes and in the end went with the waiter's recommendation. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had in the Wimbledon area. My hosts footed the bill but from my observations of the menu I thought that the prices were reasonable and certainly lower than many other restaurants in the area. Two of us stuck to beer so we only ordered wine by the glass. The restuarant was packed full and even if it was a Friday night, that's always a good sign. Date of visit: Friday, 13th August 2010.

Staff were kind and exactly on time with my order. The food was delicious. I rang ahead while driving and they had the order waiting by the time I arrived.

Ordered Jerk pork and chicken.... tiny portion at £16... pork had so much fat and was over cooked literally burnt.. rice and peas was from yesterday soggy and tasted unfresh, texture like baby food..
