Overpriced and average food. The menu on the door shows much cheaper prices than the menu once you are inside. I asked the guy serving about this and he sniggered that the menu on the door was an old menu. So why not put an up-to-date menu with the correct prices on the door?

I was passing by and saw a long queue outside, so wanted to try the food. I had the classic Banh Mi which was fab. The baguette was crispy on the outside and soft inside, lots of filling with pate, pork and everything was well seasoned. This was my first Banh mi and I would definitely visit this place again.

They have a banh mi that is every veggie or vegan dream - aubergine and tofu! Came here especially for it, but it seems everything but the stupid bread is non vegan. Rather very upset about it, because all they need to change is the bread. That definitely doesn't require extra knowledge or experience to make your banh mi vegan.

I’m a regular at Keu for many years and since the last few months their portions sizes has decreased a lot. I ordered a crispy pork belly baguette and the same with rice. The baugette is normally filled with meat but this time there was half the amount. It’s the same with the rice, there were 10 small pieces of meat in there. Very disappointed and I went before closing as well.

When we want a special treat at lunch time, we have taken a Keu banh mi for lunch for years now; they are just so good. Give your order to the friendly till operator and - for take away service - receive a slip of paper in return. Hang around while your order is made up, and collect when your number is called. For eating in, take your table identifier to an empty table (you might have to wait, or get sociable).

I decided to try this place for lunch today. Ordered crispy pork belly with rice take away and paid £8.95 for it. Very disappointed. It was basically a huge bowl of rice with around 10 bite-sized pieces of pork and a few steamed cabbage leaves. I was expecting more for the price. When I ordered I asked if I could also add a small amount of their pickled daikon/carrot mix but was told I'd have to pay an extra £1.75. I only had a £10 note so said can I just have £1.05 worth instead. That wasn't possible. Again very disappointed. My advice is to pop across the road to OTB for some Korean, much better value and much tastier as well.

Visited for a late lunch whilst visiting our son who lives nearby. He has visited several times. Fairly basic inside - no nonsense - so your not paying for fancy tables etc. It was very quiet when we visited so food orders taken it was'nt long before our food was delivered to the table piping hot and of good quantity. This was the first time I had tried Vietnamese (street?) food and it was excellent. Our waitress was nice without any fuss. Prices were within keeping of where you were - London! Would certainly return.

One of my favorites in London. I came here for lunch because I read some of the reviews. The place is just across from the Holiday Inn. The moment I walked in, the smell of the food was so tempting (I think they tried to hurt me lol!). It's a small place, mostly take outs but you can also sit by the window overlooking the street. What you do is, You order at the counter and wait. I ordered chicken curry over rice. I was quite concern about my allergies so I wanted to make sure no almond in the sauce. The girl who took my order was so sweet. She wanted to make sure I could eat the dish so she and I agreed to have very little gravy on my rice. I almost fainted after trying my dish. So surreal because it was so damn good! Order this if you like chicken and curry. The chicken is tender. The gravy is to die for! I didn't get any allergic reaction. I liked!

The food is excellent. I am here quite often and have tried a lot of the menu, but on the occasion that prompted me to write this review I had the crispy pork baguette. Really good balance of meat, warm crispy bread, and finely-sliced salad veg. Elements of chilli and pickle worked well. Sure, it's not the friendliest service most of the time (I actually had a great bubbly server today) - but it is just great food. Love this place.

More like a cafe, you order at the bar and they bring it over or you take away. I got the mix meat and rice - nothing much Vietnamese about it. When I went in the tables were dirty- they hadn't been wiped. Good place for a quick snack. good portion size

Slightly pricey but the food is made in front of you. It's not one of those places that makes a stack of food and then keeps it warm for ages. This means a slight wait for your food but it is worth it. Mainly a take away place but they do have a few communal tables where you can sit. Worth a walk to if you are based anywhere near the place. It might appear that you need a beard to be a customer but I can promise it's not true :-)

I'm ethnically Vietnamese and grew up having a lot of good - and not so good - banh mi. The best ones are always home-cooked with extra pork belly dripping sauce but for those who don't have the option, Keu's banh mi is a decent alternative. Half the success is down to the bread and this one is soft and golden. Meat lovers: order the Keu classic or Hà Nội deluxe as the slices are tender and really tasty. Just remember to tell them not to include any chillies if you can't handle the spice!

The banh-mi is nothing special and I have had better (and significantly cheaper!) from street food vendors from around the corner. Quite simply, it's 'alright' but for the price (over £7) I would expect SO MUCH more. One thing that did annoy me is that I was charged an extra 60p for eating in. Top tip: say you're taking away and eat in anyway as I saw most people do this and they are too busy to keep tabs on it anyway. Go elsewhere and save your money whilst treating your taste buds.

Visited early lunchtime and there was only another couple waiting for their food. My husband and I (we're tourists from Australia) were lured in by the lunch special and we're hoping to get our dose of beef pho. We were a bit surprised by the high prices but ordered anyway. We ordered pho noodle soup with 3types of pork and prawn and the lunch special which was chicken curry on rice and summer roll. The food was beautiful, no denying that. The pho was flavourful and the curry was fragrant. The only thing we would have liked more was if there was a bit more curry sauce to the curry. We would have liked to have mixed the curry with the rice but was only on the chicken. Also even though the restaurant was empty all 3 menu items were given to us separately over half an hour period even though they asked if we wanted them together and we said 'yes'. But we still enjoyed our food and would go again if we wanted Vietnamese food.

Sadly i hate to write this review, but as i am a restauranteur, meaning i have always worked and also owned my own restaurant i feel the need to have to share this. A bunch of us went here not knowing what to expect but going on your reviews. We sat at the back table surrounded by boxes high to the ceiling, almost like the storage area. We ordered chicken curry, large pieces of chicken, too big to fit in your mouth but couldn't really cut them up with my chop sticks so ended up leaving them to the side and only ate the rice. To be honest we were heading out to a club so we dashed off only to find it repeating on us as we entered the club. A few hours later, my belly swelled up and that was it, if you've ever had Deli belly this was it. I believe the rice is not stored correctly or not heated up correctly as my guts where in agony. Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. If the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria or toxins could make the rice unsafe to eat.

I’m not normally one to leave reviews, but this experience was so poor that I felt compelled to. Forgetting the long queues and archaic ordering system, which can be forgiven during a busy lunch hour, this experience left me particularly worried about the future of vietnamese people if this is what they have to eat. After ordering the rice pot with vietnamese beef stew, I was surprised to discover that “stew” in vietnam must be a completely different experience to “stew” in the UK. What they really meant was “boiled”. For the princely sum of £9.50, you get a large pot filled with three quarters boiled rice (the cheapest food in the world), three chunks of boiled beef, three boiled potatoes (the dish really needed more carbs), and four boiled carrots. Unfortunately it seems that “stew” also means lacking any taste or flavouring whatsoever, and apparently it also does not mean “sauce” of which there was none.I might as well have bought a piece of beef from tesco and left it in a mug of hot water to cook at my desk when I got in that morning.

This was half price. London wall branch. Someone in my office said it was the worst thing they've eaten sober. I should have listened but wanted to try for myself. Half price I was told. That is if the usual price for a beef curry is £10, which almost nowhere on the London lunch scene is it, unless you sit down for a meal. For a take out lunch at Eat, Pod etc you're talking £6 mark. I suspect next week prices will be dropped, and this feeling of getting a half price meal for £5 will be a sham. Anyway, whatever they do with the prices is up tp them. This was putrid. I have just thrown 90% of my beef stew in the bin. The meat was so fatty in some cases was nothing BUT fat. The flavours you expect from Asian food were nowhere to be seen. I was expecting fragrant lemon grass, spice, hints of ginger, garlic the basis of most of their foods. NOTHING. So disgustingly bland. I suspect this time next year that place will be closed, or heavily loss making. Oh and also, if you plan on going, it's cash only. This place supposedly makes a mean Vietnamese baguette, but I wouldn't know because all I ever get is the roast pork on rice - which is delicious. Cheap and cheerful... I throw 'em 8 shackles, and get back a satiating plate of afternoon protein in about 5 minutes. Good table sauces and self-serve chopsticks and napkins make this an easy in/out. Only complaint - I wish the girl behind the counter would smile a bit more... I said "thanks" on my way out and she looked at me like I was speaking Martian. But maybe that's just London.

I have been to Keu in Old street twice. Its small and very hot if you are seating near by the kitchen, like unbearbly hot. Despite that. food is okay and cheap. nothing special though. Isabel

Ive probably been to Keu! about 20 times in the last couple of years, always for takeaways. The baguettes are fresh and crunchy, the service is quick and the chef always remembers me and my preference for no chillies on my baguette even if I haven't been for a few months which is impressive considering how busy this place is!What's more, a really filling takeaway baguette is about £5.50. So it's cheap, filling and tasty. Not a bad combination, is it?

I live around the corner from this place and try go as much as possible, which, since I work in the city is only usually one a week. Be aware that it is closed on Sundays - something I have learned the hardway twice while craving a delicious crunchy baguette to chase away the Sunday hangover. It is owned by the same people as the very successful Cay Tre restaurant across the street (they also have a location in Soho). For me, nothing beats the Keu Classic - pork cold cut, barbeque pork and crispy pork (I order it with £1 extra crispy pork) with amazing paté, picled carrots, cucumbers, coriander and sauces and spice. All on a super crispy and hot baguette, which they hollow out to allow for maximum amounts of filling. The duck baguette is also good, however I would stay away from the Kimchi and Chicken Baguettes (personally not for me). The chicken salad is a very good accompaniment and the pork buns are deliciously sweet for a nice starter. Hands down one of the best Banh Mi I have ever had, and certainly the best I have had in London.

I can't fault the banh mi in this place, it comes in really good baguette, although the last time I went to get one - the price was a little steep for a sandwich - it was almost £6 when they were featured in Metro newspaper (but I think the price is about £4.50 now). I tend to come here when I need my fix of decent roast duck with rice, but I always end up getting the roast mix (made up of duck, BBQ pork and roask pork) with rice served with a little green. It is a big portion (I tend to have it for lunch and dinner) and it's probably the only place in the area that serves decent roast duck, BBQ pork and pork belly. Keu! is owned by the same people as Cay Tre (across the road) and Viet Grill on Kingsland Road.
