Used to be one of my favorite place but loosing in quality.... Used to come here all the time, but lately the food and the service were not that good.. last visit I found hairs in my soup.. first one, I told the waiter and didn't want to make a fuss as it "could be an accident" (but at no point he proposed to exchange my soup).. but 5mn later I found an other one and I started to feel disgusted about my food, the waiter took my plate away as I couldn't eat no more, but he never offered to exchange my food nor he discounted the bill (or the service charge). It was late evening so the place was pretty quiet and we only heard laughters from the staff and the kitchen about the situation..we are ourself in the catering business so we were pretty shocked about how the situation had been handled.. I don't think we'll come back again..

I went to this restaurant with 4 friends on bank holiday Sunday night. We had heard great things and were really looking forward to the meal. We were told abruptly as we sat down that we had under and hour and so had to hurry up. The waiter was nowhere to be seen throughout the evening when we needed help, one meal was forgotten about and so came out 15 minutes after everyone else started eating. I had prawns in a coconut curry which were really lovely, however I found a large flying ant type insect in my meal about half way through, and so informed the waiter (after having confirmed with all 4 friends that it was indeed a large insect). He snatched the plate from me saying, no it can’t be an insect, took it away to the kitchen, brought it back out and tried to give it back to me, saying that what I had found was actually a piece of lemongrass and that I had been mistaken.... feeling increasingly ignored and unwanted after this, we decided to just pay and leave. We were told that no more than 2 people could use the card machine at one meal - so 2 of us had to split the bill for 5 people which was expensive and awkward. My friend went to the bathroom before we left and came back shaken, too worried to tell us what had happened until we had left the restaurant. She then told us that she had gone downstairs to the secluded bathroom and had been followed in there by a waiter (of at least 6 ft 5 and heavy set), and made to feel uncomfortable as she was alone and vulnerable in that confined space with him. There were female members of staff working who could and should have had access to the female toilets, especially if a female customer was in there. He had seen my friend enter the toilets and instead of waiting for her to come out, followed her in there. When I heard this I went back into the restaurant to ask him not to do this with any other female customers in the future, trying to explain that it was inappropriate and intimidating, even if it had not meant to be. In response to this, he laughed in my face, as did the waiter who had been ‘waiting’ on our table earlier that evening. The manager then came over and proceeded to tell me that I was wrong - that it was perfectly normal and acceptable for a male member of staff to follow a female customer (alone) into a secluded bathroom, away from the main restaurant. He also reiterated that I had been wrong earlier too and that the insect in my meal was a piece of lemongrass. At this point I had to leave the restaurant as I was so shocked at having been treated in this way and the events that had happened. I would strongly, strongly discourage anyone, particularly females, from going to this restaurant in light of this awful experience. The members of staff involved should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s not amazing, felt like a watered down version of Vietnamese food. The menu isn’t a adventurous as neighbouring places and it is not in demand either. The summer rolls lacked the herbaceous glory of freshness and the pho stock was okay. Nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about... it was simply okay.

We ordered vegetable spring roles and prawn toast for starters. Crispy sea bass, spicy beef and egg friend rice for mains. The vegetable spring role was just awful, it lacked seasoning and I couldn't even tell if I was eating a vegetarian dish. I was expecting a shredded filling as opposed to a minced one. The prawn toast were OK, big portion. The Crispy sea bass was so salty that I was unable to eat more than two pieces, this was such a shame because it looked amazing when it arrived. Surprisingly the spicy beef wasn't spicy, it was salty and had far too many peppercorns which left a bitter after taste on my tongue. Finally, the egg fried rice was hard, undercooked, lacked seasoning and most importantly flavour. The bill came to £35 which was too much in my opinion for horrible food. So disappointed Loong Kee. Last time I visited was about a year ago and the food was really good, what happened? Won't be visiting again. P. S. I came home and had to vomit that evening.

Untrustworthy. They add a service charge to the bill with the words “service charge NOT included”, so it’s completely hidden. I've been to this restaurant a few times in 2015-2016. I never had a bad experience, so far the food was always tasty. I had the prawn and aubergine with rice, really good combination and another time, the beef vermicelli and it was also delicious. The interior is not very exciting but the food is good and affordable. It's a lot busier in the evenings, especially Fridays, much less busy at lunchtime.

I've been going to this restaurant for 6 years when I crave for some Vietnamese food but unfortunately today was a bad experience. Me and my family waited an hour for our food to arrive, the service was poor, other tables were served before us while we've arrived earlier. The food used to be delicious, the tofu back then was fresh and crispy but today just plain soggy and other food was tasteless and oily. The standard is going downhill and no longer good in value. This restaurant used to be busy and full but barely anyone goes in there now and I can see the reason why. Supported this restaurant for all these years and I'm sorry to say me and my family are not going back there anymore.

Kingsland road and the surrounding area is famous for its variety of cheap vietnamese eateries, but this is by far my favourite. Probably one of the least glamorous looking, its plain formica tables and lack of cosiness belie the flavour of its menu. Although licensed, this is a BYOB restaurant and they don't charge corkage.A firm favourite that I revisit again and again - on one occasion at a friends birthday we remarked that we ate something like 8 different kinds of meat in one sitting, but on another occasion a vegan friend said he was in awe of the delicious dishes available to him too. Whenever I come here I always have the fishcake and vermicelli soup with summer rolls to start. It blows my mind EVERY TIME. Don't expect glamour. Took a group of 15 from my group, food was very nice, but the service was terrible!I emailed the restaurant 3 weeks in advance to book a table, someone emailed me back 2 days later saying to call. I called up and basically just confirmed my booking (no reason really then to call). On the evening, a few of us arrived 20 minutes early, with the rest arriving soon after. They put us downstairs, near the toilets. The waitress that took out order was very rude with the way she spoke to us and didn't even have a basic command of English, so everything had to be said twice or three times to make sure we got the correct food ordered. One person in our group, who arrived just after 7pm was just told to sit upstairs and wasn't show to our group, he got fed up and left!We ordered drinks, starters and main meals, but unfortunately, the main meals arrived first, then about 10 minutes later the starters, then after asking many times, the drinks arrived. After most of us finished (with 1 or 2 still eating), when they decided to clean half the table and they then brought some of the bill, then the rest of the bill arrived a few minutes later. There was no offering of a desert and we had only been there about 1h 15mins.We paid and left, very poor, rushed and staff all over the place. This is my first visit to this restaurant and will also be my last.I came here on Bank Holiday Monday with my family, we were gestured to sit on the right side of the restaurant. We were given menus to look at and doing all the normal stuff like reading the menu, preparing what to eat and drink, we called the waitress over.Ordered five Jasmine Tea (for the five of us). About five minutes after, she returned and said Jasmine Tea will cost 80 pence per person, and we said OK, we know. After another five minutes, she came back with only three tea cups and one pot of tea. So, basically three tea cups and one pot of tea to share between five people! How do we drink? We then asked for two more tea cups and more water.Time to order food, the waitress has zero knowledge of what was on the menu. Before we made our orders, we did ask a few questions as the menu was not clear enough. We asked about the steamed pork rolls, it stated “cool” so we asked her if it would be cold as I have had it in many Vietnamese restaurants and it's served hot.She replied, it will be hot when we cook it but on table it be cool.Fair enough, we can understand that. But no, when it came out, it was stone cold! Not even warm. If the top was cold I can understand, but inside was cold too, so basically it was not even steamed!! We did order TWO portions but only one came and the other came almost towards the end of the meal.Another question we asked, my pork chop rice. I asked her if the pork chop rice was spicy, and she replied no. But when I got it, yes it was spicy!Finial question, we asked how many spring rolls in a portion. She replied three rolls but cut in half. But instead of spring rolls, we got some deep fried prawn rolls.  We also ordered a chicken pho (rice flat noodles), but while everyone were eating their unhappy, wrong and cold food, one guest was still waiting because the waitress has forgotten to write the order down. So another ten minutes on the waiting list. The waitress had zero knowledge of what was on the menu, and also the waiter that gave us the bill, was totally rude!I normally go Tay Do which its only three minutes walk, but due to it being closed on Bank Holiday, I thought I give this a try and a very unhappy customer, I will not be returning. All in all, on the way back home, I felt unwell and as soon as I got back home, I threw up everything that I have eaten at the restaurant!!!We are all very disappointed with the service and food quality. I don’t normally give bad reviews to restaurants but I am really disappointed with my visit.

And I've tried them all. These are by far my favourite. Loong Kee gets pretty busy in the evenings and nearer the weekends, it's a small place so you need to get there early. It very much has that local Vietnam feel with all the people chatting away, eating and sharing food. Great authenticity.I am now very much a regular at Loong Kee.

Went as a group of eight on a relatively busy Saturday night. There seemed to be a lot of staff buzzing around but it took over half an hour before a waiter deigned to take our order - we weren't even asked if we wanted drinks first. After a long wait our orders came out in dribs and drabs, and after over two hours waiting we still hadn't received two mains, long after everyone else had finished eating! Food was fine, standard fare for Kingsland Road. We had to argue about the bill which wasn't itemised, so we had no idea whether we'd been overcharged or not. No apologies from the staff who were rude and indifferent. Restaurant was drab and draughty. Never again.

It's hard to choose any of the restaurants along Pho Mile if you've never been to any of them. The place was pretty packed but we were seated right away. Ordered 3 main dishes with a few starters. The first came right away but then we had to ask about the other two (one which was charged twice on the bill when it came). All but one of the main dishes came and they were delicious. However, the last one came finally after we had already finished all the other food which was disappointing. Overall, the food was tasty and had a nice atmosphere. The service left something to be desired though. Dishes tried: pork steamed rolls, salt and pepper squid, crispy seabass, morning glory, shaking beef

Right in the end of he row of Vietnamese Restaurants next to the Geffrye Museum lies this little gem. Decent vietnamese food (the Minced Pork Steamed Rolls and the Minced Prawns Steamed Rolls were both good, the Pho Noodle Soup with Beef was tasty), but the service was very poor: it took nearly 30 minutes to get a waiter's attention in order to place our order, and all the waiters looked sloppy and annoyed.

I first visted Loong Kee about a year ago and really liked it. Decided to go again last week as I had some family down but was really disappointed with it and embarrassed I had dragged everyone there. Service was appalling, I had pre-booked, and it was half empty when we go there, but they tried to seat us on a table with another group of people. Dont get me wrong I dont mind this but this situation was just a bit too close for comfort and VERY awkward. We asked to be moved which they did with no hassle onto another table. They then made us all shuffle a few seats across for some reason. The fact you can BYOB is excellent, however bear in mind that this doesnt include soft drinks. We had a bottle of coke with us as mixer which they told us we couldnt use. We still did though as all the staff are so run off their feet they didnt even notice. The food was pretty average this time. Fairly small portions, and a bit bland really. I dont know if they have changed chefs or something since the last time I went but it was just really disappointing! And sadly one of our party is still suffering from the food 3 days later. The smells that kept wafting around made me very nervous about their hygeine situation, in fact I think I would probably prefer not to know!Won't be returning to that particular establishment again!

It all tasted like Chinese take away really. The spring rolls were Chinese style and not Vietnamese (with rice paper). The satay sauce looked weird and was too syrupy for its own good, probably a lot of glutamate in there. For more authentic Vietnamese food go to Song Que cafe down the road.

However it was recommended by the couple we were with and they had visited numerous times. The food was great! I don't eat a lot of fish, but their Hanoi Fish, grilled sea bass and squid were even enjoyed by me! Lovely, fresh, non greasy food. If you're looking for fine dining or decor, not the place for you. Otherwise a reasonably priced, delicious food outlet

No idea why people love this very average place.. been twice now, once in a birthday group and once just the two of us. The cha gio are stodgy and bland compared to the lovely well seasoned ones Tre Viet do, and the wonderful light ones Pho 999 do - these are only passable due to their garlicyness. The vermicelli goat meat lacks any of the wonderful caramel/charcoal bbq flavour you get at hai ha or anywhere else on mare st. It was quite boring. Similarly I thought the beef pho totally lacked any depth of flavour, and didn't even come with the basil garnish you'd expect. Perhaps we ordered things that aren't their forte, but it's a limited menu compared to other places.. I'd not bother again.

We ordered loads of food to share and all the dishes where generally fine. The pho in particular was very good and tasted authentic. It came to just £8 each which was amazing. The staff were friendly. This is a simple vietnamese restaurant perfect for a cheap group night out. I think I would choose another place along Kingsland Road for a date night though. The toilets were overflowing though when I went to use them.

Absolutely horrific service compare to what they have been offering. Spaces are cramped. Customer service are bad as there are not enough waiter/waitresses working. Food is so salty and oily, as if they have been carelessly flung together on the pan then out it goes to the dish.I will try out other restaurants as there are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants on that street. Just too BAD to go back. Not worth the money.

The jasmine tea is only 80p and the cloudy lemonade is cool against some of the spicy and salty food. The steamed spring rolls and the salty/spicy prawns are really delicious. For the main I had dry prawn vermicelli which was really yummy and the portion was huge. The atmosphere is noisy and busy but it's good. The prices are reasonable too. Was looking for a restaurant where we could bring our own wine - this one popped up. It is in an area where there are several little such places. It is not the most attractive place and the decor is a bit basic. But the staff was very friendly and immediately provided me and my friend with wine glasses and offered to open the wine. The menu was quite interesting, appearing to have links with Chinese and Thai foods. We chose prawn rolls (not bad), duck in orange sauce (lovely and reminiscent of the classic 1970's "duck a l'orange"), beef in coconut and lemongrass (fragrant and creamy) with 2 portions of boiled rice. It came to about £25. Brilliant for the price and turned out to be a pleasant and relaxing meal.

I've been to most of the Vietnamese restaurants in Shoreditch and this is still my favourite. You must try the softshell crab and/or the squid in salt and chilli. My own favourite starter is the steamed minced shrimp rice rolls - lovely and fresh with the lettuce and mint drenched in spicy fish sauce - while the missus always has the tofu summer rolls (she's veggie)For mains, it's either the braised pork belly or the grilled pork vermicelli or the braised Mekong catfish for me. The missus either has the tofu and lemongrass vermicelli or the braised tofu and aubergine. They've started serving alcohol now but it is still bring your own booze. If you're having beer, definitely bring your own because their selection is poor, there are off-licences just down the road.

We went on a Thursday evening and the place was almost full, although there was more space available in the basement. This restaurant is clearly very popular with groups of young people getting together for a meal after work. This creates a somewhat noisy and chaotic ambiance. However, in our experience the staff cope very well with the chaos. We were served quickly and efficiently. The food is very good and reasonably priced. It is possible to have a good meal for two for under £30. Probably not the ideal place for a romantic evening, but excellent for an evening out with friends.

Last weekend saw our little supper club 9 strong and heading over to Hackney for a Saturday night feast at Loong Kee. After a couple of beers at The Dove, which was a very pleasant pub and comes highly recommended, we wandered a couple of minutes down the road to the brightly lit restaurant. Fortunately we had taken the precaution of booking because at 8.30pm Loong Kee was absolutely heaving. It was all hustle and bustle, and fairly chaotic, but we were soon found a table in the basement area (like a lot of basement rooms this one had a bit of a musty whiff about it which the owners had tried to ward off with incense - not so bad that it would put you off your dinner but worth noting if you have a sensitive nose). Menus and jugs of tap water soon arrived as did glasses for the beer and wine we had brought with us; no corkage charge here if bring your own.Service was friendly if a bit hit and miss all night, but we kind of expected that on a very busy Saturday night. You might need to work on catching the eye of passing staff if you want to order or they have forgotten any dishes.Various different starters were ordered and most were met with nods and smiles of approval. I particularly liked the soft shelled crab with salt and chilli which went down a treat. I ordered 12 of the pork and shrimp steamed rolls, a classic Vietnamese dish of stuffed steamed rice batter, which I shared with the group. Now these were certainly not to everyone's taste, but when teamed up with the accompanying dipping sauce I thought they were very tasty and I would recommend that you give them a try.By now the wine was flowing and conversations were getting louder and more heated throughout the restaurant; all good fun if you are with a group but I would probably give Loong Kee a bit of a wide berth if you are looking for a romantic Saturday night supper.Without too much of a wait our mains began arriving in a fairly random and haphazard fashion. No worries though as we were all in a very good mood by this point in the evening and we tucked into anything and everything that arrived. My main of the Hanoi Grilled Fish was a real winner; crispy, full of flavour and pretty authentic - I liked this dish a lot. B had the duck which was tasty, had been well cooked and was just the right shade of pink. Various different noodle and rice combinations were tried and all seemed to go down very well. When the time came to pay the bill we were all more than happy to stump up our share. The starters and mains are all very reasonably priced and if you bring your own wine you will have the pleasure of a very cheap, very tasty supper. It's not somewhere I would recommend for a special occasion but it's a great place to eat with a bunch of pals at the weekend or for a quieter experience, come and fill your boots with quality Vietnamese cuisine on a mid-week evening.
