Visited for a drink and tea after coming off a yacht. Handy location for the marina. This bar is really missing a trick - the location is lovely but the actual bar/outside area is just looking a little tired and unloved. We did have fish and chips and it was nice but I really don't like it when they serve your food on paper on a plate. The paper ends up going soggy and breaking into little bits that then stick to your food. Please get rid of the paper - just use plates. Portions not huge, and wasn't cheap. Would visit again as convenient for the marina.

Mediocre food, appaling service and dogs not allowed. The food was OK but the prawn tempura was just a soggy, fatty standard batter. Definately not Tempura!! No still non alcoholic drinks for pregnant daughter. We arrived before 19.00 and did not get main course until after 20.15 by which time we could not see what we were eating as we had to be outside. They have an outmoded no dogs policy which is hard to understand as they have a separate bar and restaurant areas so could easily allow dogs in the bar. To be fair they gave us a discount on the final bill as recognition of how badly we were looked after.

James and his team at The Ketch Rigger without doubt delivered the best service I have ever experienced. I dropped in for coffee one day and realised that I could hand all the catering for my husband’s surprise 50th birthday sailing weekend over to the team at The Ketch Rigger We were given exclusive use of the conservatory area; breakfast for Saturday and Sunday morning was organised for 15 - and dinner for 20 on the Saturday evening. All the food and drinks were absolutely spot on and to get 20 different combinations of burgers out for dinner so quickly was pretty spectacular without any mishaps. Impressive work in the kitchen well done to all that worked on that weekend that we were there. Recommend 100%

After current spell of bad weather grabbed a dry morning to call in for coffee & breakfast 11/01/23. We were prepared to sit outside on veranda as have dog but couches were sodden and outside area generally untidy. Popped head around door, called hello but no one about. Would have stayed if someone had been there to supply towels to dry seats but was not to be. Went elsewhere - sorry!! Please please would like to see seating area made more appealing for doggy owners.

Lads who lunch visited Hamble Point Marina on a sunny day, for lunch at the Ketch Rigger, and a little wander around the marina. The Ketch Rigger is comfortable and cosy with plenty of light. Staff are friendly and laid back. There is a combined breakfast and lunch menu. We were advised that breakfasts stop at 12, though it is not indicated, and we were allowed by our friendly crewman to order two breakfasts at a little past 1pm. Not sure if that would be allowed on busy days. Myles had the Eggs Royale, and I had the Eggs Florentine - both were creamy and delicious, and we were served fairly quickly. Most lunch and breakfast items are around £10. The "main meals", including Sunday Lunch, are between £15 and £17. There is a modest range of kegged beers and one cider. I had the Shipyard Pale Ale, as that seemed most appropriate! Tasty little beer. Easy drinking. There was a relaxed, unhurried ambiance on our visit. Not sure if that would obtain during the busy summer months. There is an open area by the door, where - unfortunately, people are allowed to smoke, with the consequence that the toxic cigarette fumes enter the inside area where people are eating. This is unpleasant and unhealthy. One million non-smokers a year die from having repeatedly breathed in unwanted cigarette smoke. It is a serious health hazard that we should all be aware of - especially smokers themselves, who can take responsibility to ensure they don't smoke in areas where others have to breathe in their cigarette smoke. The toilet is outside and around the corner. Slight nuisance if its raining or cold. There are several rooms or areas, including a comfy conservatory area. On the whole we really enjoyed the place, and would be happy to come back.

We both decided to have the kippers for breakfast as we had a good experience before of the breakfast kippers. James, the chef, served us two large fillets each with watercress and two slices of soft brown bread. They always serve a bottle of chilled water here and with the three coffees the bill came to £26 (they didn’t charge for one coffee as they said there was only one shot of coffee in it as my wife requested-simple thing to do and makes the customer feel good!) We had a good walk around the point on a sparkling November morning.

I have reviewed the ketch rigger befor and sadly it has not improved. The cook…not a chef …produces standard food…the staff..not really interested. I don’t really need to say much…the cook produces beans on toast…..( a difficult dish to prepare I do admit) wait for it…a 50p extravaganza….for…£7.00 😂😂😂 This price reflects the whole ethos of the little cafe…for that’s what it is, it’s a little cafe with a cook and teenagers making a few quid that do not know what customer service is…bless. I’ll say it again….Beans on toast £7.00. Toast with some jam….yep wait for it…£4.00…I can buy four loaves of bread for that. How do they sleep at night? The guy next to me said”I take it that’s a printing error”? The lad in ripped jeans said” no it’s not, what’s the problem? Say no more.

We originally intended to go to the sister restaurant, Gaff Rigger in Mercury marina, but decided to come here instead for a change. The prices are a little more expensive as the marina fees are higher than further up the river so presumably they pitch the prices at a wealthier clientele. We had excellent service from Sam and Bethany kindly raised the sun canopy over our table. (No sun canopies on the terrace at the Gaff Rigger) I had a children’s portion of mussels cooked with herbs and frites for £10 which was better than the Gaff Rigger. My wife had eggs florentine and we had 3 coffees - the bill came to £29. There is a lovely walk to Hamble Point with amazing views over the Solent so a more interesting location than Mercury marina.

We dined here early on Saturday evening having pre booked and requested an outside table. Arrived and nothing was set up for our group of 6 - 2 small tables were pushed together and we sat...menus were provided and shortly after our drinks order taken. ('egg cup size' of orange squash for the small oeople 50p each - serious penny pinching) First observation was lack of enthusiasm & welcoming smiles or chat from the staff, some warmed up a little as the evening and engagements progressed. (Tip if you're looking for decent £££ tips learn to engage - as well known film goes 'serious sucking up ...' goes a long way. Food was OK however somewhat overpriced (Thai red curry with added prawns £20 - and only 3 largish prawns, Hamburger £15, Fish n Chips £16, Moules & Frites £19) Our third observation, related to the first, at these prices one would expect the seating and tables to be a little more sold & substantial rather than cheaper cafè type settings.

I ate at the Ketch Rigger recently. The food was just OK really and if you want a quiet meal go for the main area rather than the conservatory. However, whilst waiting for the rest of the group I bought drinks for 2 friends. A couple of glasses of pinot, large ones admittedly, and a pint of beer cost £27!!! I've drunk at some expensive places but I think that's just taking the mickey!

We booked the Ketch Rigger for a party of 15 people to dine as part of a yacht racing event. The staff were attentive, efficient and could not be more accommodating. The service was excellent, food was good and delivered on time and the prices were perfectly reasonable. We booked to return for breakfast the following day which was equally as good. The following evening, due to an error on our part, we found our party needing to eat after a day of racing and the guys at the Ketch Rigger managed to squeeze our slightly larger party of 17 in for dinner on what was a very busy Saturday evening. The location is great, especially if you like looking at boats, car parking is easy and plentiful. We will be back!

Popped in after a walk down to Hamble Point. Nice warm and attractive cafe with lovely views , especially in summer and during nice weather. The thing that bugs me a lot these days is the lack of enthusiasm and friendliness of some hospitality staff. No welcome. No smile , yes I know it’s hard under a mask but still you can tell when someone is genuinely pleased to see you. When we left to pay our bill , no how were your drinks ? No thanks for coming , no hope to see you again. Just £6.40!! I struggle to see why some people choose to work in hospitality, and at this time of many cancellations and people just not wanting to go out , it’s of paramount importance to go that extra mile for every single customer.

The girl serving was fairly rude, think she’d hurt her neck, next time she should go home. The young lad was excellent and actually made us feel like they wanted our money. We have just returned from having supper at this restaurant. Hoping to have had a nice evening with a very dear friend , well let’s just say this restaurant really does need to tighten up its act. Firstly our drinks order was taken while we perused the menu, mine was delivered , not a white wine and soda but just wine in a glass with pink lipstick on it, yuck! Returned it to the bar with just a oh sorry about that. Correct drink was then returned. It took about fifteen minutes for our drinks order to arrive in the first place, not sure why because the place wasn’t busy at all. We ate our food , which again took what seemed ages to arrive. We asked the waitress if,as we were the only ones there, could the music please be turned down a bit, however this didn’t happen! Our plates were then taken away , we wanted to order coffee but she forgot to come back to us with her iPad for ordering, in between time we asked if we could go in side to sit on the comfy sofas.. bad move, we were then right under the speakers, un able to hold a conversation , we asked if they would mind lowering the volume, well this is a new one.. they couldn’t lower these speakers because they are connected to the kitchen , the chef was cleaning his kitchen and obviously liked the music loud, we were told that music couldn’t be lowered has he chef would get upset! He’s obviously more important than his customers ! So we paid the rather over priced food bill and left. So if you fancy loud music, over priced food, slow service this is the place for you. !!

Where do you start, with such a disorganised unprofessional and completely and utterly miss priced cafe.Let’s start with the facilities, you have to walk outside, not something I’d want to do in the rain. The amount of covers per staff are overwhelming and as such creates long waiting times, that and the fact they have a gazebo to make the skeleton crew walk distances they need not walk.I over heated 5 different conversations explaining to someone to make a coffee, and each person explained it different!! How hard is it to make a coffee? If you can get that right then what hope have you got for anything else? The uniforms hoodies and jeans, I get they want to be young and trendy but this just makes me think of been served by prisoners, especially the grey. The food took over an hour to get to us and forty minutes for a drink. When the food came it looked as if it had been presented by a child, some of which looked like puke in a bowl. My advice is whoever is running this place needs to give it up as they obviously have no idea of how to run a business.

It’s a real shame that. Could not rate this place a zero or I would have done. The prices are ridiculous for a little cafe and that’s what it is, a roadside cafe by the river. Before you visit down load the menu……I wish I had and you will fall off your Seat…buy why?Maybe a captive audience from the marina? The food s prepared by a cook not a chef but they are Michelin, central London prices. If you want to spend well over £100 for four to eat average food in a roadside(oops!River side) cafe….this is definitely the place!!!!It’s such a shame because this little shack does have potential.

Yesterday we booked a table at 1.30pm for three of us. When we arrived we hung around for a couple of minutes before we managed to get the attention of a lady, who waved us to a table. Nothing happened for a good 10 minutes - not even having a menu to look at, so one of our party got up and managed to locate some menus. A further delay ensued at which point one of us attracted the attention of the lady and said we are ready to give our order. She rudely said, "There are other people ahead of you". We were advised that the waiting time for food was half an hour to 40 minutes, at which point we decided we had had enough and walked out. They don't deserve to be in business - at least we should have been offered a drink to pass the time.

So disappointed. Starters fine 4 ordered. 1 bottle of red 2 small cokes. Freezing cold 3 heaters not turned on with cold winds blowing straight through the marquee, blankets available but personally I don’t want to touch or have something wrapped over me that the last customers have just used. We then waited over an hour for mains, eventually bought out by the manager/owner no apology. Burgers were enjoyed but the mac and cheese was some dried crispy pasta and looked like it had sat under the hot lamp during the long wait. Decor very pleasant, staff courteous and friendly but that’s about it, beer choice is limited and extremely expensive, spirits are even more expensive! Two of our party ordered fish & chips and quite honestly it must have been cooked in engine oil, for a start it was not cod (as stated on the menu), the batter was soggy and oily, chips I think they brought in from McDonald’s, it was basically less than poor. The remainder of our party opted for a more adventurous meal, sadly a Big Mac would have been a much wiser choice. When the bill finally arrived our lead person in the party nearly had a coronary, over £100 charged for a “by comparison” transport cafe lunch that was prepared by a chef who clearly had no idea how to cook! I did wonder why the place was close to empty throughout the duration of our lunch, I now know why....it’s overpriced, no choice and food cooked freshly for the bin! Will we go again....NO !

I think the owner or the manager here should seriously consider reflecting on his behaviour with the customers and staff... the tone of voice and the language he uses is so unfriendly and puts you off from the moment you arrive! The staff are working so hard and all we could see was this guy who was the manager just setting different tasks and interrupting the staff doing their jobs. Dessert was even worse , ordered ice cream sundae , was told didn’t have all the ice cream needed - what we got was a big wine glass half full off chocolate sauce , a swirl of whipped ice cream ,a ice cream cornet stuck in top one lost flake few strawberries , not worth £6 ,it was started as a sharing dish on the menu . -a false statement Nice location but not good . The staff generally where freimdly but at times hadn't a clue what was on menu or not. The fry up was okay in proportion but was very overcooked with green sausages which the server couldn't identify. The Sunday carvery was okay although potatoes a bit dried out. I found that it was also expensive, maybe because of location. Service was prompt and friendly. We both ordered a full cooked breakfast which was well presented and tasty. The only disappointment was that the sausages were extremely herby which neither of us particularly liked so this detracted from what was otherwise a very enjoyable breakfast. My wife and I had a fresh crab salade sat outside overlooking the water fantastic food great setting nice staff u could not fault this lovely little gem. I agree with their policy of no dogs inside there are plenty of seats outside you can enjoy with your dog some are covered over if it's raining

The staff here could not have been more accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious. Even the kids ate everything! A lovely view of the marina as well. Couldn’t fault it and would highly recommend!

Went for lunch, sat outside in the sunshine next to the water, a very pleasant setting. Had a crayfish sandwich which was delicious, service was good and did not have to wait for long before it came out. Nice thick pieces of bread and plenty of filling, served with a nice side salad. Very good.

Been here numerous times before and usually it’s great, but I’ve been disappointed twice this week. First time Thursday evening at 21:30 with 4 customers in tow) only to find the staff on their way home.... no beer tonight as Hamble village is a bit of a hike. We were told they open for breakfast at 08:00, so we gave it another try (customers in tow again). This time it was open and we ordered the “full crew”.... clearly it’s not very full as my guests added mushrooms and hash browns for £1.60 more! It turned up amazingly quickly, actually all too quickly. The beans were cold, as were the sausages, the eggs were barely cooked and I noticed the mushrooms were left, I guess cold.

We've dined at The Ketch Rigger lots of times and they never fail to deliver. Yesterday, the team arranged an amazing experience for our large group booking (60+ people). The food (carvery) was delicious, the room was decorated with a lovely Christmassy theme, and the staff were so helpful and friendly - everyone went above and beyond. Highly recommend. Everyone from our group left feeling happy and very festive!

We have visited twice for Sunday lunch. Once at 14:30 and once at 12:30 which was therefore at the start and once when the food had been serving for two hours. Both times there was a full range of carvery all piping hot and fresh. As a dish finished it was replaced and the joints were hot and succulent. So good food, great location, and well priced. Top marks!

Ok, let's get one thing straight. This isn't a pub. It's a restaurant. I'm sure you could just pop in for a drink but to say it's a pub is totally misleading so ignore the reviews that specify this.

I can’t remember the last time I went to a pub with an outside loo but that was the only thing wrong with the Ketch Rigger - and that wasn’t too bad really. Food, including lobster, was good and the service was excellent. we had a great time on the first night of our sailing weekend, chartering from Hamble Point Yacht Charters.

Female staff friendly and efficient, but owner or manager a bit over supercilious like Basil Fawlty. When questioned on pouring the Guinness in one go, he tried to justify his actions that the rep from Estrella had said one could; as if Barcelona knew anything about Guinness. I nearly called him Manuel. Closes early as well, 2130 last call, but it was nearly winter.

This is a lovely pub with great scenery overlooking the Hamble river and the pontoons of Hamble point marina. Also has nice walks around it. Standard beers on draught and not a lot in the way of Ales however has well stocked bar for spirits and cocktails, wines and fizzy drinks.

I do not recommend going here if you have children (or indeed a dog, or a sailing bag, despite being in a marina). Staff are extremely rude, and if you sit near the kitchen, you will see lots of pre-packaged food being cut out of bags. Despite assurances to the contrary on the website, if you complain, the manager is unlikely to bother even acknowledging it. The Bugle in Hamble is definitely worth the short walk!

After a recent visit to the Ketch Rigger for a meal with my husband and two children (ages one and three), I felt compelled to write a review. The setting is perfect on the water's edge and the food is great...I would highly recommend the homemade burgers! However, the main reason for writing my review is because they were so accommodating with my children. Nothing was too much trouble and we really did feel very welcome which unfortunately is not always the case when you visit restaurants with children. They provided colouring and crayons to keep the children entertained and were even able to provide plastic cups, plates and cutlery without even asking. The children's menu is great too with a variety of options catering for the fussiest of eaters! I would highly recommend this place as a family-friendly restaurant serving great quality, good value food in a perfect setting! Keep it up Ketch Rigger!

Went to the Ketch Rigger a week earlier and sat on the verandah with friends with a dog which was greeted by the staffSurprised this week to see signs there saying dogs and smoking not allowed there. Checked with the manager who confirmed this was the case.It was rainy so the alternative of sitting completely outside (they aren't allowed inside) was not viable. It's a shame that those running the Ketch Rigger have this attitude to dogs since many boat owners have them. It's a long walk to the centre of Hamble but the dog enjoys it so the Bugle is now getting our custom

Visited restaurant with family and friends. We had a three course meal which was very well presented and cooked beautifully. Had the calamari as a starter, lamb and asparagus special as main and apple pie and custard as dessert. All 3 dishes were well portioned and cooked to perfection. Lovely peaceful surroundings, very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and bar for a lovely evening out.

Went for lunch on a sunny weekday. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is very nice - we sat outside and watched the yachts manoeuvre on the Hamble rivver. The food was satisfactory - the battered fish a little uninspiring but OK. Chips were McD style which I always find unimpressive, but they were cooked fine. So a few little grumbles, but an excellent lunch stop on a sunny day.

What better place to be on a warm sunny day. River Hamble Marina location with lots of outside seating; good cold beers; small but engaging menu and friendly welcoming staff. In the summer months, the Ketch Rigger is our number one choice for a sunny lunch or a late afternoon cooling drink which often seems to lead to another dip into the menu whilst watching the sun slowly set. Can't recommend it highly enough - life would not be the same without this perfect bolthole!

We had lunch at the Ketch Rigger - The food was uncomplicated, generous portions and having our meal overlooking the marina was an added bonus. The staff were charming and helpful. The carvery offered either roast pork (with very good crackling) or roast beef.

May 1st Bank Holiday weekend and it's raining. But never mind we've booked to go here with friends for an evening meal. Not been before but it came recommended by friends. Anyway we were warmly welcomed and given a table overlooking the rain lashed Marina. The menu was simple and good and the wine list ample. We had sharing starters and lovely mains. All great and well presented and extremely tasty. A very enjoyable visit. Thanks!!

We popped in for a late morning drink and stayed for a light bite (baked potato with crayfish and salad) - tasty and hot and served with a smile. We returned the next day for breakfast - not your average full English, this was top notch, well-cooked and tasty. I had the vegetarian option (everyone else had the meat-eaters). The mushrooms and tomatoes were perfectly cooked and very tasty and the veggie sausages (which often can be tasteless or unexciting) were like vegetable croquettes and delicious. All served with a pot of tea. And efficient friendly service. If I didn't live so far away I'd be back.

They are also open from 8am every day which is brilliant as getting breakfast or Coffee in the week around Hamble can be a challenge in the WinterThanks to all the staff for the great service so far and to Tom for the prompt & friendly service and Aaron for morning coffee and keeping us all topped up with beers in the evening - we will miss you when we return to Southampton

Excellent Sunday lunch here today. They have a new chef who is cooking everything fresh, all the vegetables were freshly cooked to order and the taste difference is amazing. The meats were beautifully cooked and the homemade Yorkshire puddings are huge. Add in the homemade cauliflower cheese with smoked apple cheese and you know you're in for a treat! Very friendly place, great service and yummy food, we will definitely be back. Thanks guys. X

A nice place for a no frills meal, especially the Sunday roast. However every time we have to remind them that the roast should have mash potato as well as roast potatoes as they normally don't put mash on the plate.
