Kendells Bistro in Leeds

The food was outstanding, service was exceptional and the restaurant was a pleasure to be in. If there was ever an example of a perfect restaurant, then this is it. Highly recommended.

The decor is very relaxing and the service was good. The food was ok but quite bland. I had a beetroot dish which was rather overwhelming and heavy with it's size and pastry so for me I think I chose the wrong meal. I would have preferred the beetroot dish to be smaller and added some green veg to the plate.

We had a 17:30 booking on a Tuesday as we were going on to the theatre. This meant that the restaurant was empty apart from us for much of the time. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and efficient and made sure that we had finished and paid by 19:00 as requested.. The food was very good and the teatime menu good value. We hope to return when there are more customers and so can report on the normal' ambiance'.

An amazing (Tuesday) night started with glasses of complimentary fizz for my birthday! The food was fabulous - our salmon rillettes were perfect to share and the extra bread was among the nicest we've ever eaten. My confit duck was beautiful, better than some we've had in France. My husband's steak with chips etc was melt in the mouth tasty, I almost had food envy... The only tiny thing was the tart tatin which wasn't quite cooked to a crispy pastry, but 9.5/10 is still the best meal we've had in years. I even got a complimentary birthday meringue and cream on a 'Bon Anniversaire' slate - such a lot to love, we'll definitely be back soon. Recommended.

A great evening, the atmosphere was superb, so were the staff and of course the food, thank you Kendall’s once again for a lovely dining experience .

This was my husband's choice to celebrate his birthday. Our visit started with 2 glasses of complimentary prosecco which was a nice touch It also finished with 3 complimentary brownies wishing him 'bonne anniversaire'. We loved the French ambiance from the music to the various artefacts. We chose from the tea time set menu and everything was delicious - the pate, the beignets, the chicken, the ham hock, the melted chocolate pudding and the cheese board. The service was just as good as the food - attentive but friendly. I think this is our new favourite restaurant in Leeds!

We both enjoyed an excellent meal in relaxed surroundings. We will definitely be back.

Our second time here and it was just as good as the first. The food, service and atmosphere is lovely. Highly recommend, especially for a romantic meal.

We had a lovely birthday evening. Excellent and atmosphere. The staff were ver6 helpful.

While I can see why people rate Kendell's so highly, it just missed the mark for us slightly. My better half described it as sitting at a desk at school due to the chair she had. The food was very good, but not amazing (to us). The staff were friendly and attentive, their service was professional and quick. The espresso martini was out of this world. We did have a div sat next to us, so maybe this has clouded the experience, but overall, despite being good, it was not quite what we had hoped it would be.

The chef is a genius, what he does with simple ingredients is amazing. He manages to bring the taste of every ingredient he uses. The staff are always attentive, without being intrusive. They are a credit to the owners and a reason why we return. The only down side is 5NR acidic smell in the men’s toilet.

Both my partner and I were really impressed with Kendall’s Bistro! It was our first time there and were struck by how much much we enjoyed it. It was my partners birthday and the staff really went above and beyond to make as special an occasion as possible. Will definitely be returning!

Very enjoyable experience. The quality, presentation and cooking of the meal was excellent. The set menu, in particular, is fantastic value.

We hadn’t been for a few years; and were not disappointed. Excellent food; lovely service; and very good value (the early bird menu). We certainly won’t leave it as long before we come back!

Have visited this restaurant many times over the years. Had a lovely meal but felt that the service was not up to their usual standard. Long wait for our mains after our starters. I’m not keen on one course immediately after the other, but we started to wonder if we had been forgotten. Pleased to see the frisée salad back on the menu, but disappointed that there was a lot of potato which I don’t recall used to be there and a tiny egg and fewer lardons. Perhaps just trying to manage increasing costs….. Still a great restaurant though and one we always look forward to dining at.

I really like Kendall’s Bistro but took three friends who had never been before and they found the candle light very hard to make out the menu with and were a bit spooked by eating without being able to see what they were eating. If dark, candlelit restaurants and French food are your thing, don’t hesitate!

The best dinning experience for me and my friends!! We came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we absolutely loved everything about the place, atmosphere is so tranquil and food is to die for, we will definitely come back. Ps Staff is also great! very welcoming and friendly Roksana

I've visited Kendall's several times over the past few years and I've always left with good memories. Food is always brilliant, wine menu is extensive enough to get you through your meal and the prices aren't ludicrous.

Absolutely gorgeous. Best mussels I have ever had. The portion size is generous and we were absolutely full after everything! Highly recommend 👍

Once again, a very enjoyable experience. The food was first class as was the service. The atmosphere there is very intimate and unique and you are sure of a warm welcome. Will be returning soon. 

The food, service and ambience were spot on. Unfortunately for me the noise level was too loud but to be expected at Christmas time with a large office party happening.

Food and service is always excellent, the set menu is always good value for money .

Staff attentive and helpful, food and wine excellent. My wife was delayed and arrived late, we had a theatre booking at the Playhouse so were a bit rushed. Staff were very accommodating. It got a bit noisy with a Christmas party before we left, but nothing outrageous. And hey, it was Christmas!

I cannot recommend highly enough. We had a theatre booking so had to eat quite quickly but one of our party was late. The staff could not have been more attentive or helpful. The food was fantastic. Lovely decor and festive atmosphere. Thank you!

Great atmosphere, excellent food and very good service.

We were delayed getting to the restaurant for our reservation due to travel chaos, and consequently short on time before our theatre booking and very flustered when we arrived, but the entire staff stepped up to ensure we could still enjoy the two-course meal we had intended. The wait staff checked with the kitchen whether there was enough time to cook and serve our preferred dishes, kept a close eye on the time for us and brought out our dessert to keep us on track, then processed our bill as quickly as they could while also serving two large Christmas parties, to get us out of the door with time to get to the theatre (we did make it!) And they did all this efficiently and with smiles and friendliness the whole time. Although it was speedier than intended, the staff's attitude meant we still enjoyed a special evening - thank you all so much!

A wonderful evening, we were going to the theatre and there was no drama around eating earlier everyone is so friendly and accommodating, the food was beautiful as always, we love this place and the people who work there, it’s a very warm atmosphere.

Superb place. Brilliant staff, excellent food. Its the first time we'd been but we'll absolutely be back.

This is a well established French restaurant with a very pretty interior, perfect for dates. We went as a family group and had a lovely relaxed meal. Aside from the a la carte menu there is a fixed price set menu which is good value and daily specials. We have eaten at Kendall’squiet a few times and keep returning as it is consistently good.

Another great meal. We love coming as it is always great food and wine and a lovely cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be back again!

Simply the best service in a restaurant I ever had. The team was friendly, polite, professional and the perfect balance between looking after us and giving us our private time. The food was outstanding and everything looked amazing on the menu it was difficult to make a decision. My request was honoured for my girlfriend's birthday. We will definitely come back.

Very generous portions of very tasty food! Did we need the bread and butter to start and chocolate mousse to finish? No, but we enjoyed it!

The restaurant looked lovely bathed in candlelight when you walked in. The food was really good, lots of choices. Would go there again.

My husband and I visited Kendells for my birthday. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had and we eat out regularly. We were greeted with a Prosecco (on the house) which was lovely and they have me a little birthday desert too. We had scallops to start and the honestly the best beef Wellington I’ve ever tasted. It was incredible. The service was top notch too. Wonderful evening all in all.

We love Kendells, it’s been a repeat visit. It’s not cheap, but you get true quality for your money. The food is superb, we enjoy the cocktails, the service is lovely. Food allergies are catered for with imagination. What difference to so many places where you limit your choices, the chefs at Kendells adapt dishes and give you a great dining experience. Thank you!

What a great find! A relative told me about Kendell's Bistro, so I thought I'd give it a go. Steve Kendell is the head chef and owner and he has created a fabulous French bistro in the heart of Leeds. The food is perfectly cooked and the portion sizes are good; not the fussy small plates you sometimes get in higher end restaurants. I thoroughly recommend Kendell's for a great meal and fun night out.

Visited for our anniversary and were treated to nice, personal touches throughout our visit. Food was superb and wine menu wide-ranging and deep. Ambience and atmosphere was convivial and warm. An excellent experience, would recommend.

We had one of the best evenings at Kendells bistro. The athomspere, the service the food, the attention to details the wine list everything is cared for to the details. The staff is fantastic, the decor brings you straight in France. It was our anniversary and we received a lovely glass of prosecco as welcome drink and a delish macaroon with" jeux anniversaire" for extra dessert. Because of the amazing food, staff, the ambience and settings is an absolute pleasure to dine with you. Bravo!

Enjoyable meal with a good selection of options on the menu. On a busy Friday night the service lapsed at a couple of points but the staff were friendly and resolved the minor issues promptly.

Our first time here, and I don't know why we have left it so long. The Food was delicious, the service great, and the ambience brilliant. A great Leeds restaurant deserves its reputation.

Kendalls is always has a nice atmosphere. the food is good and changed on a regular basis. I would like to see the French onion soup put back on the early bird menu as it is a favourite of ours. The service was good and the waiters were knowledgeable of the menu offering recommendations if asked.

Absolutely lovely place, low-key but the food was incredible, the perfect blend of finer dining and relaxed ambience. My singular critique would be that they warn other guests when a large group has booked as a courtesy.

As usual we had an excellent meal here at Kendell's on our annual trip to Leeds. Never disappointed

Food and setting was exceptional. I have been before and the service has always been great. Unfortunately this visit was a little disappointing as one of the waiters was quite unpleasant, pretty much threw the bill down on the table and walked off, wasn't friendly and barely spoke a word when taking our payment and we then sat waiting wondering how to get our coats.

Lovely, romantic intimate restaurant. It was very slightly too dark inside, could only see our menus by candlelight. The wait staff were all very young, & were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, I was slightly disappointed with my braised Ham Hock main course, too much mashed potato, the sauce lacked depth of flavour and I had to remove the big piece of rubbery fat off it onto another plate. This was the weakest part of an otherwise lovely meal, the French onion soup was perfect and the Tarte tatin dessert was to die for. Would definitely recommend this place, and would go back.

Always impressed by my visits to this restaurant, food and service 1st class, menu varied and caters for all tastes. My only tiny niggle is that the lighting is a little to subdued for my old eyes meaning I have to turn on my phone torch to read the menu, an extremely minor inconvenience that usually results in chuckles from my dining partners

Without any doubt my favourite place to eat in Leeds, the food is wonderful, the quality of the ingredients shines through and everything is cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely, the surroundings are cosy, warm and with lots of interesting pictures, books etc. The set menu is such good value for money when you consider the quality and the portion sizes.

Absolutely love Kendal's . Excellent food and service and a lovely Parisian style atmosphere. The rating would have been 5 Star if it hadn't been for the first 20 mins. After arriving a few minutes early, for an 8pm booking , we were greeted immediately and taken straight to our table. All good. However not only were we not approached for a drink but a couple who arrived around 10 minutes later than us were asked and served drinks before we were even approached , by the same server who ultimately took our order. The differences between good and great are small and on this occasion that did make the difference.

This is the second time we visited and it was just as good as the first, great food selection and a great wine list - also a wide specials menu. Would 100% recommend to anybody.

Warm welcome from the staff on entry. Couple of glasses of presecco to celebrate my partners birthday & retirement from staff, nice touch. Food was amazing from start to finish, very tasty. We couldn't eat it all so staff kindly packed the rest in tubs to take home. We didn't order desert as we were given some small selection with a congratulations written on the slate it came on. Very nice experience from start to finish. Would highly recommend.

3rd time visiting Kendalls. Lovely food and was given a glass of sparkling wine as a lovely gesture to celebrate our anniversary. Would highly recommend for a first date or to celebrate a special occasion.

Great place to eat if going to the theatre afterwards. Leeds Playhouse is right next door and the restaurant staff ensure that you finish your meal on time. The set meal, which includes half a carafe of wine, is great value, the food is plentiful and very tasty.
