Kember & Jones in Glasgow City

The servers are nice however the person who served me, who seemed to be the manager, was not polite in demeanour. I was dining on my own this time and service took such a long time people were being served around me, with tables turning over twice while I waited, it seemed because I was on my own in a corner I was overlooked.I tried to get the attention of someone and service was overall not polite, very slow and inconsiderate. The food was lovely though, props to the chefs and waiters. The man who seemed to be the manager. If you see this, learn how to be a polite server if you plan on serving, if not, hire more staff… (I have worked in customer service before, I say this knowing the type of job)

I have been going to Kember and Jones I think since it opened (so a good many years) I am not able to get there as much these days but today I managed to go and meet a good friend. My favourite thing to do of all things. (The simple things are the best) the owner who always comes for a chat if he's in, and his wife have come up with a brilliant concept which they have maintained from the beginning. They've made changes over the years but kept the core purpose of the place...serving excellent, hearty home made food. Their scones are the best in Glasgow and probably in scotland. A friend moved to London and has to have K and J banana bread shipped down! It's a great place. Always busy so you might have to queue but it's definitely worth it..and then take out a loaf of sourdough bread. It's amazing. Thank you Kember and Jones from your Biggest fan.

We love this cafe and go Everytime we are in Glasgow. Food is always really good and great value for money.

Nice place to sit and enjoy with ur coffee

Very slow service. Tried to order at the counter and was told it was table service so we sat down only to then wait 20 minutes for our order to be taken, the cafe was very quite as it was a weekday so I’m not sure why service was so slow as there was at least 4 people behind the counter. Then there are no labels or prices on any of the cakes or pastries so you have to go off of visuals as to what you’re ordering or ask about each cake. In the end a dry pastry, a slice of cake and two small coffees were £24 which felt like a lot considering we paid less for an entire home made excellent brunch on the south side the next day.

One of the best places to get brunch in Glasgow. It has many options to pick, from various cakes and biscuits to Turkish eggs. The only thing is that it’s also popular, so you need to wait a bit for a table (about 10min).

What an absolute treat. Cosy tasteful decor with a relaxed atmosphere. The foid was fist class, delicious was homemade & cooked to perfection. They even roas their own coffee. We will definitely ho back. Thanks to the lovely staff for excellent service.

My friends took me for coffee and cake, we had 2 tiny coffees each as two made up one normal sized cup, and 2 pastries. The staff serving were lovely, coffee good, cakes tasty enough. However on leaving, the dour faced girl at the till had no chat, hardly looked up and charged over £40. She hadn't said how much as there was no communication so my friend paid however I could see the amount and he then queried it. She was sullen, and said, you said table 8, which was correct, then started reading out the wrong bill. She seemed quite put out, was quite unhelpful and didn't once apologise or give the bill we'd asked for so we could check the amount. We felt unsure if the refund had actually been made. She rolled her eyes as we left, the manager beside her, watching, also not apologising as you would expect, just blank faced. And at £28, not a pleasant experience overall, apart from the wait staff. Last visit ever.

Perfect experience! Gorgeous food (very generous portion sizes), tasty tea. Excellent service! I went in at a time where it was really busy. I only had to wait a few minutes for a table. The staff were totally on the ball. Very friendly and polite, making sure to clear tables, take orders, get people seated, all in quick time. A model of customer service. Thank you so much K&J! Gran comida y menú. Panadería de primera clase. El pastel de pistacho y agua de rosas es increíble. Cuidado que el tocino se sirve como el tocino americano, rayado y muy bien hecho. Excelentes panes de masa madre y todo alrededor de un gran lugar para comer. Siempre ocupado, a menudo una cola. Mi única queja... el inodoro podría mantenerse mucho más limpio y fresco.

It was ok. The house baked beans were mostly undercooked and crunchy, making it unpleasant. I scraped them off my plate and ate around them. No check back was made, brought it up to the team member on the till who didn't seem to care for feedback. Funny thing is I found another review, just before leaving this one, also saying the beans were undercooked and crunchy. Why not change the process? Avoid this dish

2018 - The best breakfast I have ever had, and I'm a biiig fan of breakfast. The belgium waffle with crispy bacon and maple syrup was just... perfect. Busy, cosy little shop with tons of fresh bakery items. Highly recommend. ***2024 update - went back in May of 2024 and everything is still AMAZING!! It's always a pleasure coming back to Kember and Jones, especially knowing the quality of their service and food/drinks is always top notch!

The empire biscuits here are some of the best in Glasgow. Crumbly shortbread that doesn't dry out your mouth, fairly thick semi-set icing, a generously sized cherry and a good amount of jam. The size is just right for me, too. Some might say it's too small, but I always go for quality over quantity. It's just the right size to satisfy you without making you feel sick. Top marks.

Nice breakfast café with a warm atmosphere and pleasant service. The place has a good selection of pastries and dishes.

The staff were friendly enough but it took a while to take our order. The food was very average. Ordered beans, bacon and poached egg on sourdough, beans were hard, the rest was fine. The whole place needs a good clean. Pretty grimey/filthy and dusty (see pictures). Our seat was next to the vent which was drafty and cold and the vent itself was disgusting. Toilet also not clean. Very overrated

A good place to have brunch. I had waffles with bananas and blueberries with cherry compote. It was delicious. It’s reasonably priced. The crowd comes around noon time so it can be quite noisy. Try it when you around the vicinity!😋

Turkish eggs are nice. Quite surprised their warmed up scones are really good. My friend has oyster mushrooms with poached eggs which are tasty as well. Will definitely go back again.

i love this carrot cake. it’s not no very sweet that I like it. It looks like a cake that maybe show in cartoons. And the sandwich is good. It’s convenient and delicious. Two things are about 8 pounds. Good price good quality!

Quirky little coffee shop, friendly staff and great coffee and cakes!

It was very tasty, nice cafe. It is quite loud because it is open. We had waffles and a sandwich. Coffee and hot chocolate was also very good.

Was walking down the street when my friend spotted this little cafe. At first i was intrigued by the milk chocolate and sea salted cookies because of how good and thin they looked so i got one. Little did i know that the cookie i bought was going to be the best cookie i’ve had so far in my life! Honestly though, Great little cafe with nice seating area and amazing sweet treats. I will visit Glasgow in the future to come back here.

A really excellent and lovely café in the heart of Glasgow. The staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. We can recommend the waffles and the granola! Upstairs and downstairs to sit too!

It is a pretty cafe in the West End, which would be very relaxing if it wasn’t for the annoying, standoffish, awkward manager (maybe owner) who walks about with a tablet, intercepting customers as they come in to show them to the table while being passive aggressive. Get tat guy out of the way and you have a winning cafe.

The best breakfast in Glasgow. I Always keep an eye on the special menu and it never failed to impress me, last one was the sage fried eggs on lemon greens over a perfectly toasted sourdough slice.

This brunch was nice, it had a great waffle, with berries and Greek yogurt, also they had good cinnamon rolls and an average apple cake, the coffee was good and the apple juice was average, the service was very excellent and fast, the atmosphere was good, in all I rate the brunch 4/5.

Excellent fresh food. Friendly staff. Went on a Sunday mid morning and a que did form for seating but it moved quickly. Be sure to grab some bread in your way out- absolutely delicious!

Cozy, friendly staff! Varied menu but not overcrowded which makes it easy to choose! Delicious food that tasted very close to home! I did not feel artificial and soluble spices! I like it! The prices are good, as long as you don't constantly calculate how much it is in BGN! I recommend!

Fui aquí después de que se recomendó en tiktok como ser bueno, estaba lejos de ser bueno. Cuando entramos primero estábamos esperando y luego básicamente nos dijeron que escogiéramos una mesa, aunque todo estaba bien, ya que la mujer era bastante agradable, nos sentamos arriba mirando hacia abajo en la zona detrás del mostrador, solo para notar que nuestras aguas se derramaban de la jarra que no podría ser más sucia si lo intentaba (en realidad pensamos que era café en la jarra) unos 15 minutos después logramos pedir nuestra comida a pesar de que todavía no nos habían pedido una orden de bebidas, así que claramente nos olvidamos de nosotros. Pedimos un tazón de granola, tostadas de aguacate y dos lados de huevos revueltos y tocino. Estábamos muy abrumados con los tamaños de las porciones ya que eran pequeños, y la comida, el tazón de granola estaba bien, pero de ninguna manera nada especial, el huevo revuelto era tan pequeño que era como una porción para un bebé (el tazón de granola era muy parecido) por el precio es simplemente robo de luz del día como para la tostada de aguacate la tostada era como masticar un ladrillo y era prácticamente negro y sin mencionar el hecho de que también estaba frío como piedra. Los vasos en los que bebimos el agua estaban manchados pero no tenían energía para llamar la atención de una de las 7 personas que había detrás de la caja (todos parecían estar aburridos y en instagram) aunque lo peor del día fue 100% el tocino para empezar no se aclaró que era tocino rayado o que iba a estar tan crujiente como estaba, cuando lo conseguimos fue una broma absoluta que estaba cremado y lleno de grasa me costó hasta el punto en que parte era el tocino real no comimos nada de él ya que era casi imposible de masticar, por el precio de todo esto es una vergüenza que rápidamente nos levantamos y nos fuimos sin dejar una propina en la que normalmente lo haríamos. No volverá y muy decepcionado.

Such a cozy cafe with wonderful staff and delicious food. There's seating on the street and on a small platform above the counter, but by 9:30 on a Saturday, it was full! With how delicious the food was, I'm not surprised! The cinnamon twist is by far my favourite and the one I recommend. It has a hint of lemon that works so well, but with a fluffy dough and just enough cinnamon. I also got the oyster mushroom breakfast, which was delicious and my friend grabbed the bacon and maple syrup waffle. My only gripe is that they got only one waffle and so much bacon!

I recently visited this cafe for the second time and I must say, the layout is great. There are seating options downstairs and upstairs, as well as four tables outside. The counter top is filled with a variety of cakes and other delicious treats. It's quite spacious, allowing the staff to work comfortably. The tables are well-maintained and the staff is reasonably attentive, providing fast service. On both occasions, I received my food and coffee quickly. While the food is decent, it's nothing extraordinary, and I found the prices to be a bit on the higher side compared to other cafes on the same street. I have tried four different dishes from their menu, sharing them with another person on two separate occasions. However, I must highlight that their cakes are absolutely delicious and definitely worth trying. Overall, it's a good cafe with a rating of 3.5/5

Yum yum - according to the couple of GLASWEGIANS SITTING NEXT TO ME, this place has the best cake in Glasgow. I had the clementine raspberry cake to go. Also visited twice in my 4 day visit to Glasgow. Had tea and muffin of the day. People around me had salads and sandwiches and everything looked delicious.

Probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had! Fresh and innovative ingredients, generous portions and very well priced. Service was lovely, smiley and friendly. You must go!

We went at 10:30ish to 11 and we ordered two of the breakfast food; warm Waffle biscoff blueberry banana and banana loaf with frappe and banana on top with cappuccino. Totally worth it Elegant Satisfactory and totally worthy Spend around 20quid and I am so glad it full my all appetite The ambience was so cool cafeteria Will definitely visit (to have from other menu and from lunch section as well) and don’t forget to try the cake; desert section👌 Thank you

I love this cafe so much and I went with my friend last October. The service was really good and this very nice ginger waitress served me the best food I have ever tasted. I would highly recommend as the service is incredible.

The vibe is excellent; bright and lovely. The coffee is robust and flavourful; always a big plus for a discerning coffee lover. The people who work here really elevate the experience; they are kind and helpful with suggestions especially when the entire bakery section looks so appealing! Samiksha and Hannah M, in particular, were very patient and jovial when I was there on a busy Sunday morning.

We love eating here half way through our west end walk! The staff are always quick and efficient and the food never fails to hit the mark. We usually have soup and a warm cheese scone or sour dough bread - but this time we ventured away for a change. I had the roast beef sandwich, which was lovely - but even more lovely was the pesto bean salad served alongside with a dressed salad too. One friend had the goats cheese salad and the other had the grilled halloumi open sandwich - both of which were superb. You might have to wait a wee while for a table when it's busy - but hang in there. It's worth the wait!

Great food, love the food here and was pleased to get a seat. Had a salad with rare beef great and had a coffee also. A great spot in the west end. Got a window seat bonus and on a wet day was great spot.

More expensive and smaller cups of coffee with a very light flavour. Very bad desserts. Wobbly tables, noisy environment. Terrible service. Just now I was driven away just because I didn't go on to order a third drink when I hadn't even stayed the full three hours. I don't want to make accusations of racism here based on my experience of being treated differently, but I do sense it in the attitudes of white assistants.

I've been coming here for years and the food is always incredible. Everything on the menu is fantastic. However I will echo other reviews that point out that the customer service is horrible. The staff are so unfriendly, I'm sorry to say. It's very strange as the vibe is great and the food is great. But don't expect a warm welcome.

Seldom eat here as I've always found the staff to be distant and somewhat aloof, and it's always a wait for a table, which I never do. Food is good so I usually just buy to go.

Great atmosphere, fantastic selection of cakes and sweet treats, and lovely lunch menu. Staff are friendly and service is personable and efficient. There was a short wait for a table to become available, but staff were accommodating and efficient with organising space. The rare beef sandwich was well made, using fresh bread and delicious beef. The parsnip and carrot cake was excellent.

Great service and very nice food. It’s very busy on Saturdays and Sundays so be prepared to wait for a table. Lovely breakfasts and lunches but a few but not lots of veggie choices. Well worth a visit.

I have been coming to K&J since my 30 year old was in short trousers but have never got round to reviewing it before now. Anyhoo it is absolutely fantastic. Everything cooked and served very well. We enjoyed our brunch and the coffee is exceptional. Yes it’s busy and you may have to queue but it is definitely worth the wait.

The coffee and atmosphere here was great. For breakfast, we ordered the beans and the mushrooms on toast. The bread was unpleasantly soggy but the flavours were good. Service felt very rushed. The staff were friendly, though, and probably just conscious of the people waiting to be seated.

First class customer service and the food was of a high standard and tasted great - I was lucky enough to get a seat after a brief wait on the mezzanine floor which I benefited from

Not one normally to write a review but had a really lovely breakfast here this morning. As an Aussie travelling the UK I've been missing an Aussie brunch but at Kember & Jones I was able to get some amazing avocado toast and a nice coffee. Would definitely recommend to others - the other menu items and display case full of cakes looked great too.

We had to wait a while to get a table of 3 at a busy lunchtime - but it was so worth the wait! Delicious homemade soup with an incredible warm cheese scone - less than £7 and utterly scrumptious! One of the friends had to take half the scone away as it’s quite large! Friendly and helpful service. Can’t recommend enough…

Coffee is nice but the staff at the counter could be friendlier and more attentive. The cakes are also a bit too sweet. Had the walnut cake but it was so overly sweet that I could not even finish it.

This is a unique, quirky place with a great atmosphere/vibe. A must if you're visiting Byres Road and even if you're not. The food is delicious and the cakes, pastries, meringues ( loaded with cream and fresh berries ) are to die for. Have you tried the bacon rolls??? It's the only time my friend and I don't talk lol! Bit of advice....... check the closing times. K&J is not open in the evenings and it would be a huge disappointment to get there and not get the opportunity to embrace!

The dessert show is full of insects. The restaurant need to be care with cleaning.

The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff quite nice, and the food made of quality ingredients. You can opt for healthy stuff (soups, salads, raw vegetables) or for a fatter option (excellent scones and pastries), but anyway everything we chose was tasty and copious.

Lovely! The Thai carrot soup was absolutely delicious. Nothing is better than homemade bread. Thank you.

We dropped in here by chance for some cake. Initially the waitress looked straight through us snd served the visitor behind us that did not set the experience off well, but the waitress could not have been more apologetic. There was a very large selection of cakes and savoury food to chose from on display. Hot food could be ordered, too. We ordered a slice of the banana, pecan and toffee cake and a slice of the pistachio and rose cake. Both cakes were enormous and delicious. The tea was plentiful, as well. All was forgiven with the waitress. I would recommend a visit.
