The Bay Tree in Glasgow City

We stopped by this quaint little resto for a quick bite and did so mainly because their online menu offers many vegan options. This needs updating because there is a stark difference between the online menu and the menu in the restaurant. Lots of options marked VG (for vegan) on the online menu were not vegan when viewed on the restaurant menu. The chef was kind enough to clarify this and gave us some options. We were a bit skeptical about what might be on offer. We opted for the Aubergine starter alongwith the dolmades (rice stuffed vine leaves) and were pleasantly surprised by the amazing flavours the dishes carried! There was a unique blend of indo-middle eastern aromas and spices making them absolutely delicious! We didn't have enough time for a main course, but having more vegan options on the main course will definitely help. The quantities were generous and filled us without making us feel heavy. If you're in the vicinity and want some tasty vegan food, this is a great choice!

Great food, staff and atmosphere. I got transported back to the days I visited Egypt and Istanbul. I had the Lebanese kibbeh, baklava and hibiscus tea. I'll definitely come back with friends and family.

Great wee spot. Very tasty food with big portions. Quite a lot of the dishes sound similar without knowing what they are but the food is tasty regardless. The staff are also amazing and accommodating!

Having been let down by a nearby restaurant we gave this place a try. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night but a nice restaurant with a good choice on the menu. My partner enjoyed the hummus starter and his lamb kebab. I really liked the selection of teas ( apple,rose and peppermint - lovely). Would Def visit again.

The food is amazing and delicious I work near the place and I usually get my food from there and enjoy it every time and the burgers are amazing like always soft and delicious

Food doesn't look, feel or taste like housemade. Fish and chips looks like it came frozen. Braised lamb shank not braised at all. Beef burger is dry and not "smokey" at all. Wouldn't recommend.

Great spot. You can either have your full Scottish / English all day breakfast or fantastic aspersion food - which we had. Excellent flavours and good service.

What a fantastic ambiance inside, good vibrant atmosphere and jolly service - definitely a come back for me

Every time someone opened the front door a blast of cold air permeated the restaurant, which definitely affected our experience. There was seven of us who had arrived looking for food, and hoping to sit together. This wasn't possible because of the table layout, and we were split either side of the front door. At my table we only ordered two starters. We waited over 2 hours for our main courses to arrive. We were on a night out and all of us were drinking alcohol. There was a big sign at the front of shop stating "BYOB". We had no option but to drink soft drinks. The lady who took our order was very pleasant, but we felt sorry for her serving 10 tables on her own. There were 3 guys in the kitchen, but they didn't offer her any assistance. The food was ok, but it took so long to get to us. I also thought it was a little overpriced for couscous and chicken. However my starter was home-made pakora, and that was delicious. I would give it pass marks but only just.

Really enjoyed my lunch there. Nice wee place, tasty and flavoured food. Hope to visit again to try their aubergine meals 😋

Lovely dinner and BYOB is a great money-saver. Excellent option near the comedy club for pre gig dinner.

I ate at this restaurant this evening.I ordered food and said I was allergic to gluten, they reassured me it was not a problem and they would take care of it. They brought me a plate with aubergine and tortillas, I ate them but then, because I didn't feel well, I asked if the tortillas were gluten-free and they said they had gluten. It is an incatteable mistake, I am celliac but I do not have a reaction that requires hospitalization, but someone else could have had a severe allergic reaction. These mistakes should not be tolerated. Without a doubt I will not return to this restaurant.

Freshly prepared, delicious food at reasonable prices for the West End. The vegetable stew with chicken and cous cous was particularly good. Attentive service from delightful staff. BYOB is a real bonus. We will be back!

Friendly and courteous service, nice quiet atmosphere - it wasn't very busy that night though. They had quite a few things not available from the menu, but still just enough to choose from. Food was okay: falafel burger and chips were good, baklava and cheesecake were alright. Reasonable prices, about right for what you get.

We went for dinner. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Food was well cooked and tasted great. We tried to choose more authentic dishes, which were a delight. Service was spot on, and prices very reasonable.

Amazing food and brilliant service

After a long time of intending to visit this restaurant we visited last night. After reading past reviews we were definitely looking forward to this, but were totally blind sided. I ordered dolmades as a starter and when my partner said they were tinned I laughed. Don't be stupid I said, this is a restaurant. Well blow me, these dolmades were definitely tinned. The shawarma wraps were just ok. To be honest they could have served a gourmet meal to follow after the starter and the meal would have been finished for me. To serve tinned dolmades is just insulting. Plenty more eating places nearby.

Went tonight for dinner. Food was delicious, restaurant spotless and staff excellent. Would recommend and return when next in the area.

We both enjoy middle eastern food - one of us enjoys meat whilst one doesn't so middle eastern food usually offers something for everyone. This restaurant didn't disappoint. Started with the baba ganoush (served with lovely flatbreads) - the balance of flavours was just right. Followed with the chicken kibbe which came with various side dishes. This allowed us to try the tabbouleh and houmous. Sometimes I find houmous too heavy on the tahini or garlic but it was perfectly balanced. I had fish served with herby rice and fattoush salad. Only criticism was there was too much rice (!) and would have preferred tsakiki to the lemon mayonnaise - but that's my personal preference. To finish the meal I tried the chai latte and was told it was a good choice since the chef uses his own spice blend - it really was the best ever. We hadn't realised that the restaurant currently doesn't have a licence but you can bring your own drink - there is a small Tesco nearby. Highly recommend this restaurant - it's a gem. We'd be here regularly but unfortunately were only visiting Glasgow for a weekend.

The best Gluten Free , Vega friendly, veggie loving, allergy aware eastern Mediterranean restaurant in the Wild Wild Wild West End .... come here to get away from take away nonsense, pseudo-authentic ethnic food and Marks and Spencer ready meals. Dropped in with a mate for breakfast on Saturday morning as we usually do when I'm visiting from London. I must say I love this place and the food is amazing as always and prepared with dedication and care. The staff are always great and the manager always takes time to say hi and are really welcoming. Everybody only has good things to say about The Bay Tree and this is well deserved. Great job guys 👍

Absolutely brilliant food and service, a little gem not to be overlooked. Be aware that it's BYOB, we were disappointed we could not get a wine or beer and that stopped us going 5 stars. Maybe something to make more prominent on social nedia and Web site. However don't let this put you off!

Freshly squeezed orange juice, mezze, , vegetarian choices, desserts. Lovely food. Reasonably priced. A small cafe. Service a little slow. With a smile so go for a leisurely lunch, or coffee and cake.

The menu is all embracing, veggie, vegan and meat. Premises were excellent. Service wonderful. Bring your own booze was brilliant. £10 for a nice bottle of wine instead of £16 for a bottle of rubbish house wine. Just a shame they closed at 9pm. I felt a little bit rushed even though we got there at 19:30. However, I would definitely go again but book a table for 7 o'clock. Lovely place. 👍👍

Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. If I had to nitpick I think the food service was a wee bit slow considering they weren't busy and we would've liked a few more flatbreads with the mezze platter. Will definitely be back though.

I had the pleasure of dining in this lovely restaurant this evening.. my food was delicious. l would recommend to anybody wanting to try somewhere different to eat. I will certainly be back and recommend to friends and family. The lovely waitress was an asset to the establishment also.

Nice little eatery/restaurant, which has been around for some time, serving a range of dishes from some of the Mediterranean countries (more from Turkish/Greek/North African side), all accompanied by pleasant service! Think you can bring your own bottle too. Serves lovely latte☕️& few nice tea options! 🫖

My wife and I had a lovely brunch a week ago. She had the Turkish omelette, I was jealous, but my vegetarian breakfast is the best I have had. Everything cooked from fresh, no oil on plate, a real treat. Finished off with a Turkish coffee.

Gorgeous wee local place; foods great atmosphere is cosy and staff are lovely. Unlike most generic westend places, has been there for years.

The food was amazing, the menu extensive and the prices were very reasonable. The service was a bit laid back and it took an hour to get our food. Nice atmosphere. I'd definitely try again and hope the lackluster service was a fluke.

Food took well over an hour to arrive, and that's with the place nearly empty, us and 2 other tables. when the food did arrive, they had somehow forgotten to make one of the meals, so that took another half an hour to arrive. when the food did arrive it was mediocre at best. Crazy they can have a kitchen with at least four people working in, and an near empty restaurant and still take well over an hour to serve four people. would hate to see them busy.

This is a small restaurant but I can only say that the food is fresh and delicious. The first time I went this was a vegetable stew which I had with couscous and came with a lovely salad and chicken on top. The second time I had a delicious lamb shank with couscous and salad. The lamb was cooked in its own juices with delicious herbs....Loved it....

Sat us at a table, chef was arsey with us and we got moved. Asked to change an ingredient in the breakfast, got charged way extra when the ingredient itself was more expensive for the one replaced. Wouldn't let us split a £70 bill 3 ways. Food was mediocre.

Food was ok, waitress was nice, but the manager/cook was unnecessarily rude. Bizarrely, would not let our three groups pay separately.

As a group of 7, we arrived to be told our choice from the menu was restricted due to the size of the group. Some items were not available. Starters were good but mains were dry and tasteless. One person ordered fish which they had run out of, she asked for prawns but when plate arrived it was a thick slice of salmon on a bed of rice and to make it worse the salmon was not properly cooked. They took it away but didn't ask if she wanted anything else. I think this restaurant is highly overrated and overpriced. I would not recommend to anyone
