We last experienced this restaurant just before Covid under its previous incarnation as ‘Alchemilla’, half a mile down the road. We loved it then and it didn’t disappoint now, either. The menu is imaginative (we notice a lot of the poor reviews below seem to be from people who didn’t understand how small sharing plates work). Everything was well-cooked, beautifully presented and served with a smile. The beauty of this style of ordering is that you don’t suffer food envy while looking at the rest of your group’s choices, because you all get to try a bit of everything and it arrived at just the right pace. Nice lively atmosphere for a Sunday lunch and excellent-sized portions for those of us who were ravenous having just run the Glasgow half marathon but without leaving us over full. We’ll definitely be back.

food was excellent, server was pretentious and rude, unhelpful and pushy. we arrived 15 minutes late on friday 27/9, and were seated no problem. we were not asked if we had been before or had the menu explained to us (which i understand is standard in restaurants of this kind, and is what i expect when menu is not standard). despite this, the server came up to us 3 times within 10 minutes to ask for our food order, and did not ask for our drink order without being prompted. i understand wanting us to order quickly as we were late - but what happened was that this was communicated through childish passive aggression, and our server actively made it harder for us to order. the appropriately polite response would be to say “as you are 15 minutes late, we would ask you order fairly quickly. can i explain the menu to you, or is there anything else i can do to help you decide?” instead of this we were made to feel extremely unwelcome and rushed - and were given rude looks when we asked for the menu to be explained to us, which was extremely pretentious. our server was an english woman with a striped apron and long brown hair. the other servers seemed lovely when speaking to other tables, so i can tell this is a problem with this specific person rather than across the establishment. nonetheless, i was left feeling unwelcome and out of place, and would not return.

Went to this restaurant on a recommendation. I wouldn’t normally write a positive review when I didn’t enjoy my main course. For me too many herbs. But the hub of the issue was the staff asked for specific feedback on the dish and I stressed it just wasn’t to my taste rather than a bad dish. They offered to replace it and would not charge for the main course. Very stylish in my opinion. Anyway the rest of the meal was excellent , service first class and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for a night out. Very good atmosphere as well

Disappointed as I had heard good things about this restaurant. There was no welcome when we arrived. We eventually found a staff member who pointed to our table. The service was perfunctory at best. We had to ask her to explain the menu concept as it wasn’t clear. Small plates that come when the kitchen has them ready. They came very fast. The staff did not engage in any way. The food was ok, apart from a cold focaccia. The wine was expensive and not great. We all felt underwhelmed by the food and lacklustre service. It was expensive for what it offered. We all agreed we would not go back, there are better places in the city that offer excellent food and service at a fraction of the price.

We were a party of five from the midlands visiting for lunch after reading positive reviews, and were not disappointed. Starting with the sharing starters of sardines, beetroot tart, green beans and almonds,, colrabi with fennel and toasted walnunts , all accompanied with outstanding focaccia . Mains were pasta ,fish , lamb and chicken, No complaints here, all superb. Topped off with every desert on the menu which were divine. Overall a lovely experience created by inspired cooking and very friendly and attentive staff. Gloriosa we highly recommend. Give it a try soon.

Would not recommend! Sadly had two bad experiences here - rude pretentious staff, long waits for below average food. At my most recent visit, not only did it take 30 minutes for them to take our drinks order, but the wait time for the food was horrendous. After waiting another 30 minutes, the focaccia was cold (as if served from the fridge), and steamed artichoke was underdone. Also we waited so long for them to bring out one of the other main dishes (around 40 minutes) we’d ordered that two of us had finished eating before my friends main came. No staff came to check on us during this, we didn’t get any further drinks, and when we explained we no longer wanted the last main as we had waited so long and two out of the three of us had finished eating staff were VERY rude and didn’t even attempt to apologise. Really really poor experience.

Disappointing and didn’t really make sense to us. You can order half a chicken or an 800g steak and there are no sides available at all to go along with them. So I had half a chicken and a little salad with it. Who is eating almost 2 pounds of steak on its own?! The famed focaccia, it was pretty cold and as a result the crumb of the bread itself just sort of flabby and not at all light, the crust was still quite crispy though, but it was as though the bread had been in a fridge. Starters were just fine but really quite expensive for simple cold dishes. Glad we tried it but would not return or recommend in all honesty. A nice cocktail and some perfectly decent wines.

I went here with my partner for a nice, quick lunch but ended up quite disappointed and confused instead. The menu was very strangely put together. It seemed very random even though it had a theme, which we found out after speaking to the waitress. I didn't understand how or what I was supposed to order and I also didn't understand what was starters, main courses, sides etc that you usually see on a menu because it was basically only names of different dishes lined up on a colourful paper. Had to ask the waitress 3 times about the menu because it was so unclear what everything was, especially since nothing was described in the menu. The girl who was serving us did explain the idea, but she was very brief and not clear at all which gave both me and my partner some initial stress because we were confused about the whole situation. The food was decent, very overpriced for the amount of food you got. Since it wasn't categorised, we didn't know if we ordered starters or main courses and in the end we ordered 3 dishes, that we thought would be good to share between the two of us and did not get nearly enough food for two people, even though they told us that the amount of food in the dishes was for two people "to share". So overall, not a great experience. The staff was quite distant, but not unfriendly. One thing I really did not enjoy was that they automatically put on a 10% additional service cost that they literally wrote out on the menu that it was optional and that my partner, who was paying had to tell them to remove it.

TLDR; Tasty food but very over-priced I've eaten here a few times and the menu changes often which is nice, however the last time I visited (18/7/24) I found the prices to be incredibly high and sadly not worth the money. Between 3 we ordered the beetroot salad (£11), steak tartar (£15), roast chicken (~£32) and the rack of lamb served with an aubergine puree type thing (£39) plus some desserts. We were told the lamb was a good size and between that and the chicken it would be enough for 3 people including the two smaller dishes - not the case. The lamb was 5 small chops, which were nice but nothing too memorable, and were smaller than a normal main meal, for £39! Crazy prices. The chicken was really tasty and juicy, but still not worth £32 - it came with about 3 roasted baby potatoes and a side salad, which is incredibly mean when you're paying over £30. Desserts were good, but almost £10 each. I had the almond tart which was a modest portion and again, didn't seem worth the money. The bill was £209 for 3 people (including service & 1 bottle of vino verde). Service was good, nice place inside, but extremely over-priced which is why I'm giving it 3 stars and I likely won't be back.

But we got there and the six of us sat at a large clean table, the service was pleasant and prompt, the atmosphere was peaceful. We ordered bread and a selection of dishes which arrived when they were ready. A slightly slow start perhaps but once all the food arrived we shared all the dishes between the six of us. The portions were good, everyone had enough to eat and personally I enjoyed everything I ate. For dessert I had the choux bun with chocolate ice cream which was excellent. Had a great night with two friends here, service was fantastic and the place was buzzing. I'd heard lots of people talking about wanting to visit Gloriosa but I just don't think the food deserves all the hype. For me, it is a case of The Emperor's New Clothes. Some things were great (e.g. the foccacia) but others tasteless (e.g. Pappardelle). It is certainly not cheap, so expectations are higher. There are too many other fabulous and cheaper options in Glasgow for me to recommend Gloriosa. Sorry! We still had great night though!

A lot of potential. I appreciate the focus on excellence and simplicity. The cocktails and drinks were resoundingly excellent, with attention to detail and well balanced flavours. Simplicity is a double edged sword; while all of the food was good, it was not good enough. Between expectations set by the drinks, atmosphere/service and, ultimately, prices, the food lacked lustre and was disappointing. However, there were individual components of dishes which met the bar for excellence. At a different price point this could easily be 4 or 5 stars. But the bar is set very high. I think with some refinement it is not far away.

High prices for a small quantity of poor quality food. To be honest I am not quite sure what they actually did that can be described as cooking. A starter of a few radishes, olives and a spoonful of taramasalata on a plate followed by a main course that was almost entirely cold chick peas (straight from a can/jar I am prepared to bet) and three tiny pieces of indifferent tuna sprinkled with herbs and lemon zest. Bread was extra - almost £7 for four small pieces of focaccia with oil. One expects a mark up in restaurants but I doubt if the ingredients for all the dishes we had was a quarter of the price paid. To add insult to injury the 'optional' service charge is added to the bill when it is presented - i.e. you have to ask them to take it off if you don't want to pay it (and frankly there is no reason to). As others have noted, the decor is stark. This place needs to stop believing its own hype and drastically improve if it wants to stay in business. We skipped dessert and bought two pastries from the supermarket across the road and took them home, by far the nicest part of our meal and less than half the price of one dessert at Gloriosa.

We have been many times to Gloriosa and always really enjoyed the food and general atmosphere. We have come with friends or just ourselves and like the mediterranean sharing plates. When we went most recently we got seated beside the front door which kept hitting us with wind and banging. The service was bad - while the small plates came fairly fast, we waited ages for the bigger plates (with no drinks as another wasn’t offered). We noticed that after the table next to us paid, the girl was waiting for her friend to use the bathroom to leave and she got told she had to move and couldn’t sit to wait, so she had to stand awkwardly between tables. The food was good but not as amazing as usual. The focaccia is amazing and I liked the eggs and panna cotta. But the clams were full of sand, the cavolo so salty it was inedible so that dish was way too expensive for what it was. The artichokes were ok but not incredible. I hope it was just a one-off but we were disappointed overall. We will definitely try again.

In Glasgow for a conference and Jay Rayner convinced us to book here. The focaccia was indeed excellent, as were the starters (I had anchovy / chilli). My mackerel main was humungous - the entire fish perched on a bed of tomatoes, mash, and paprika. Probably the biggest main course I've been served for years - indeed, I just couldn't finish it. Tasted great - very Spanish and authentic. My wife's mussel + spaghetti was fine also. Rhubarb and almond clafoutis to finish. I could barely walk. Only negative was an apparently dumb wine waiter who neither spoke nor offered a taste before pouring; other service was charming. We got out for £60 each inc. service which is hardly cheap but hardly expensive either, given the very solid cooking skills on show. Well worth a visit - the is unpretentious, well cooked Mediterranean food and definitely a step above the chain alternatives.

Worst restaurant experience ever. Table of 6 for a birthday meal. Booked in advance. Shown to our table then basically ignored. Waited for 30 minutes without being asked for a drink. Had to leave the table and go up to the two waiting staff who were standing at the bar chatting and asked to order some drinks. At about 40 minutes after arrival, the waitress approached the table and took our drink order. Upon asking what a certain element of one of the cocktails was, the waitress brought over the bottle and asked if we wanted to sniff it. I'm not joking. Once we had our drinks we had to ask to have the menu explained a little and how many dishes they recommended we share. It was pretty painful and I think more staff training is needed. We sat for a few more minutes and decided to pay for the drinks and leave this awkward experience. We all felt like we gatecrashed someone else's party and trying to get some basic hospitality was a struggle. Won't be back. I'd say avoid all together if the service is anything like what we experienced.

Food was good, but not great - staff not very welcoming or attentive, good if in the area if they take these comments regarding service on board. Currently would avoid

Every mouthful was, well, glorious. Only reservation is the amount of hard surfaces, nothing to absorb noise. We went on a Saturday night and there were some very noisy people (having a great time) who dominated our evening. Will organise a different timing next time

The food is relatively interesting. However, everything was overly salted. The vegan pasta was also massively over cooked. The service, and the idea to serve food as it’s ready just doesn’t work here. We were served one plate of food, and then nothing for twenty minutes. As we had one vegan with us, they say hungry for all this time. Though, we all did as no cutlery arrived for at least five minutes after this first ‘course’. There was no explanation of the dishes. Drinks took an age to arrive and were never republished/asked if we wanted more. When we queried why everything was taking so long we were abruptly told “this is how we do things here”. Everything felt a chore for the staff, who were more interested in chatting at the bar than serving customers. This was a birthday meal, and we left after 90 minutes having eaten a few plates and had two glasses of wine. We didn’t dare try and order dessert as can’t imagine it would arrive that day. And saying we were never offered a dessert menu, I doubt the staff wanted us there. No idea how this place is getting good reviews. The food could be great, if they laid off the salt. However front of house is absolutely woeful. Take a jumper, as it was freezing as wells Oh, and the toilets are pretty ropey and unclean. Avoid.

Disappointing, overpriced and not delivering on quality and taste. Ordered the one scallop starter, was one scallop quite normal, but one very pricey scallop. Sardines were nice, focaccia delicious. Then the four mains, two tiny pasta dishes at 16 quid a pop, unremarkable flavours and pasta. The 22 pound quail must be worth it, nope, on a bed of puy bland lentils. Ordered the 38 pound vino, must google the mark up as a very cheap Italian red, lacking in flavour and dry. Decided no pudding and no cocktails as didn’t really want to waste more money, the bill arrived £166, got home hungry and unsatisfied. On a plus not the waiter was lovely. I think this place is the like “the kings new clothes”

Oh dear, oh dear. High expectations. But the food was just okay, nothing more in my opinion than okay. But not at okay prices. Such a disappointment. £28 for an ordinary piece of cod, a few mussels and a thin sauce with not much flavour of crab. No sign of the promised 'herbs salad' but a distressed piece of (I think) artichoke appeared. The bread looked to have been left in the oven too long and the olive oil was just ok. We ate all the bread because the plate sizes are not generous here. Anchovies with orange peel? Everything, alas, overpowered by the orange. The mackerel was baby sized in my book. Could puddings bring joy in advance of the impending hefty bill? No, they were just okay. On the plus side, good service, lovely restaurant and relaxed atmosphere. But the food was.... just okay.

So disappointing considering it's listed as one of the top ten restaurants in Glasgow. Tasteless and expensive quail swimming in grease and toilets out of order. Won't be back.

I enjoyed the vibe , yes it’s an old building with big old glass windows so it’s cold here in December the windows get wet on the inside but it has charm they’ve made it nice inside . Service was very good . Food , well my starter was really tasty Jerusalem artichoke salad with shallots I give it four stars. The wine was nice Bordeaux Red pricey at 9.60 for a wee glass I reckon they were getting six glasses out of a bottle but hey it’s par for the course these days all restaurants rip off their customers with the price of wine it’s not unusual for them to charge £30 for a bottle of wine you can get in a supermarket for £6 , this Bordeaux was in that vein probably £12 or £14 a bottle max. My main meal lemon sole , cooked well enough skin on a fish about eight inches long , nice , but t was swimming in a sauce that had too much butter which spoiled it , the dish at £39 comes with a separate wee dish of chips skins on and a small dish of gravy , the chips were cooked in oil that wasn’t hot enough so soaked up too much oil and too many of the chips were hollow, the gravy ? so so , odd accompaniment , the fish probably cost about £7 so charging £39 for it and half a spud another rip off. The sweet was tasty meringue with a chestnut filling. My wife had pasta and tomato sauce and a plate of soup served with no bread. Total £139 , what I think it was worth ? £90 max I could have made this myself nothing complex in it and the ingredients including the wine would have cost less than £50 .

Having read rave reviews and intending to book for some time, we secured a table on Sunday evening. Where do I start ???? The restaurant was freezing cold, so cold that I kept my winter coat on whilst dining. We ordered the much recommended focaccia which was also cold. I assume we must have been unlucky as the newspaper restaurant critics both had warm bread. We followed this with an onion tart which was lukewarm, nice enough pastry but £12 for a sliver of M&S quiche was not what we were expecting. We then had the Puntarelle alla Romana, this was fine. We finished by sharing the Pappardelle Ragu which was also lukewarm ! Time for the bill and a hot seat in the car ! The total experience which came to over £70 was totally underwhelming and over in 45 minutes. We didn't realise it was a Fast Food Restaurant ! Still, we have been, but we wont return !

Was looking forward to this so very disappointed.. The food was very tasty (though some dishes quite salty, especially the Jerusalem artichokes), but there was a distinct lack of meat options (unless you want to pay £75 for some steak!). Focaccia was fantastic. They’d run out of some of their (already limited) options. It was a lot to charge for vegetables (albeit imaginatively cooked). As others have commented, the service is extremely poor, and this was what really let the place down. We felt completely ignored, it took a long time to flag someone down to take our order, and then even longer for food to appear (and longer yet for our drinks, which were forgotten, with limited apology!!). Dirty plates left on the table, no check on how things were, etc etc. They weren’t that busy - the waiting staff were just too busy chatting amongst themselves, and it felt like they were doing you a favour. To then stick 10% service charge on the bill was rather insulting. It was not deserved (unless it goes to the kitchen staff!). #tldr we won’t be returning.

Everything we ate and drank was delicious. We arrived 15 minutes early but our table was ready. We ordered cocktails and were invited to order food at the same time. We asked for time to drink our cocktails first, and the server said our time at the table was limited. We pointed out that we had arrived early... it seemed a bit unreasonable to be rushed like that at the start (and also proved unnecessary, because by the time we left the restaurant was half-empty with plenty of vacant tables). The music was delightfully quiet, and the cocktails were delicious, albeit rather small. Fifteen quid for a globe artichoke with a bit of sauce seemed very steep, though again it was delicious. They had no gluten-free bread or pasta which was a real shame. I would have loved to try the pasta dish with clams. There is a Tesco Express opposite which would sell them some perfectly edible gluten-free pasta if they didn't want to make their own, though that is not difficult to do. And OK I can get that they might not want to aim at gluten-free foccacia, but I would have been grateful for some GF flatbreads which are very easy to make, or even a couple of bits of sliced Scharr bread from the freezer. But the food I could eat was truly excellent, and the drinks were very good too.

Probably one of the best meals in a long time. The food is lovingly made whilst you wait. The food is served when it is ready just like home. They make ambrosia here not just food. The soup which seemed improbable as porcini and fennel was a devine texture and delicious. The roasted butternut squash tasted and looked like orange segments served with chunky spinach was mind boggling good. Brandane proved to be not fried fish and mashed potatoes. Served with boiled eggs and olives. We shared a portion of pumpkin fritters. We had plate envy Do book ahead. Do allow plenty of time for the various plates and digestion. All in all very civilised. 4 plates between 2 was an outstanding lunch at £40. As we we’re leaving we got plate envy. The focaccia looked amazing. If only we had space. NB there were 6 vegan options! Can’t wait to visit again.

We stopped by this quaint little resto for a quick bite and did so mainly because their online menu offers many vegan options. This needs updating because there is a stark difference between the online menu and the menu in the restaurant. Lots of options marked VG (for vegan) on the online menu were not vegan when viewed on the restaurant menu. The chef was kind enough to clarify this and gave us some options. We were a bit skeptical about what might be on offer. We opted for the Aubergine starter alongwith the dolmades (rice stuffed vine leaves) and were pleasantly surprised by the amazing flavours the dishes carried! There was a unique blend of indo-middle eastern aromas and spices making them absolutely delicious! We didn't have enough time for a main course, but having more vegan options on the main course will definitely help. The quantities were generous and filled us without making us feel heavy. If you're in the vicinity and want some tasty vegan food, this is a great choice!

2018 - The best breakfast I have ever had, and I'm a biiig fan of breakfast. The belgium waffle with crispy bacon and maple syrup was just... perfect. Busy, cosy little shop with tons of fresh bakery items. Highly recommend. ***2024 update - went back in May of 2024 and everything is still AMAZING!! Family restaurant like no other. The staff knows their products and really want to introduce them to them. We feel a real love of cooking and a natural human warmth. Without forgetting to mention that in addition to the more than generous portions at an unbeatable price (£10 for a large sandwich which is really huge), the cook does not hesitate to ask his customers' opinions. Perfect. Don't change anything. THANKS.
