We ate from the "All you can eat" menu. Food was lovely, plenty of refills of Chinese tea and service attentive. Worth every penny and will definitely return!

What a great evening of food and drink aided by the attentiveness of the management and staff. This was a meal for the family to celebrate 2 generations of Mothers Day. Food was first class and we were all treated like special guests, including the 16 month old! Will definitely be revisiting in the near future.

We are long-time happy diners at Kei. This time we took a new family member, who has a nut allergy. Not a single item on the enormous menu was suitable -he had to sit for 2 hours and watch us eat dinner. Why am I angry? We booked by phone. It would take 5 seconds for the call taker to ask "has any of your party an allergy?". The manager said "I can't instruct my staff to ask that". Why not?? It takes less than 5 seconds to ask. It shows you care! Instead you're so uncaring that you're happy for a party of 8 to show up and have their family gathering ruined. No "sorry", no free glass of wine, no "can we knock 10% off your £250 bill?". All manager says is "it warns on our website". But we don't use your website, we used a phone! And you don't care enough to ask a 4 second question to all telephone bookers. Disgraceful.

We ordered some food. It was a bit disappointing. The rice wasn’t nice at all, no tasty and over cooked… the noodles were fine and we ordered some pork with mushrooms, however no much pork… we went as someone recommended to us, we live in Tilehurst, so it was a long journey, but we won’t do it again unfortunately, it’s not worthy.

We ordered a chicken chowmein , prawn toast, prawns Hong Kong style and rice. The prawn toast was one piece of bread burnt with a dry tasteless topping. But worse to come when we opened the chow mein which smelt putrid and burnt. We dared not eat it and binned the whole meal When I called the restaurant to complain and request a refund they insisted I drive 25 minutes back with the food!! I said I wanted a full refund but accepted an offer of £20. However the manager said she could only give a credit. NO WAY DO I WANT TO EAT ANY MORE OF THEIR BURNT PRODUCTS. I was offended that they thought I was going to do a 60 minute round trip to get a refund So conclusion Food burnt. Manager expects food to be returned. Refunds not given. Credit to buy more of their bad food. Quality Assurance doesn’t exist. Customer service doesn’t exist. DO NOT EAT HERE. MANY BETTER PLACES TO GO TO GET BETTER FOOD AND BETTER VALUE.

Recently celebrated another special occasion here and had a fantastic meal as always. Staff are always friendly and they are more than happy to go out of their way to provide an excellent service. Plenty of dishes to choose from including vegetarian options.

Very friendly, great atmosphere and exceptional food and very generous portions.

It was my first time visiting Kei's Peking and for this reason I'll not yet rate it as a 5 star. Soon will return and experience tells me that satisfaction either goes up or down. Food is good and tasty, not too spicy and fat. For a westerner it felt well prepared and presented. Highlights were the prawns and the vegetables cooked to perfection. I've enjoyed it. The personnel is helpful and friendly. Felt well cared. The place is confortável and quiet because it was middle of the week. Not sure how it will be on weekends. There is free parking which is a plus. See you next time.

We had a reservation few months ago. I thought I leave a review as they are so good. Our orders was including a starter to share and two main courses and beer and soft drink plus a bottle of water to share £84 All was so delicious and the service was great and a bit waiting but it was fully booked. Staff are attentive and we would go back again.

This place used to be amazing! I was never cheap but definitely worth it. The last 2 times we ordered Takaway the food has been a massive disappointment .The recipes of the dishes changed completely. Is this place under a new management ? Unfortunately, will not be ordering again.

On the spur of the moment we re-visited Kei's and were greatly impressed. Admittedly we went at 17:00, so not busy, but the service was friendly and impeccable. The Eat-as-much-as-you-want was ideal and very good value. The cooking was the best we've ever tasted there, each dish being cooked to perfection and tasty (especially the shredded ginger). Well done chef and Kei's Team. Only wish my appetite was larger!

Was staying at a friends whilst watching Springsteen... 3* is about right at best. They have for some curious rule in that they only have 2 sittings..5pm 7pm.. Not sure about that. Pricey if I were honest.,. Clean and the staff fine.White table cloths were a nice touch., Ribs were only warm when they were served . The rest was a very average meal.., Not many of these places in the area ,so it's easy why they can price the menu accordingly.. As I'm from the Manchester area this isn't a patch on Chinatown and way more pricey..,

Just popped in for a cheeky chicken chow mein and the lady I saw must be either the owner or the manager and she was lovely, we had a great conversation. Then I've just eaten the food and it was incredible, it was also ready very quickly the food was ready before we finished chatting! It was just what I wanted! Keep it up guys, you're doing really well!

Great meal out with my partner this w evening. We walked in with no reservation after a long day of travelling and it was no issue. We were seated promptly, drinks served and food order taken. Food came shortly after - it was hot and tasty. Can’t fault it.. we will be in the area regularly for business.. and I’ll definitely be back!

Just wanted to say yet again another fantastic meal out at Kei’s Service excellent, staff friendly and atmosphere perfect. Food was fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend, has to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Berkshire! Well it’s been there for 20+ years so they must be doing something right!! Great food here, went for the “All you can eat” option. Unlike buffet restaurants, the food was high quality and fresh. Lovely, friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere.

Average is a bit harsh but not very good, so I would rate this as Good. Food was delicious and service good. On the pricier end for what you get. Soft drinks were not great, flat and we assumed a cheap own brand as the coke didn’t taste like normal coke, did query but they just said well that we have as bottle opened recently. We had a vegetarian with us, the waitress explained they cook the food in the same oil, so may have traces of meat, not ideal when they advertise vegetarian platters, but at least they were honest and told us.

This place used to be amazing ,polite service great food and reasonable but have to say it’s very expensive and the customer service was not great my son was not eating as he would not eat the food but the waitress insisted on telling us if he eats anything we shall be charged and she stood glaring afar to see if he ate anything. for the money paid the food we got was far from what we paid the portion sizes were tiny,and the duck looked like it had been starved .Would not be returning unfortunately.

Always reliable. I have lost the count how many times we have dined at Kei's or ordered take away... Great ambience, delicious food, a range of food to choose from. I never get bored even if sometimes I end up ordering the same food... Can't help it it's my favourite. Good quantity too, definitely value for money. Will visit Kei's soon 😊😊😊

Decided to get a take away as been busy all day. Husband had The chicken Thai green curry was not hot at all, the sauce was so runny, not very much chicken and it had no flavour what so ever. I had the chicken in satay never had and thought I would try it, sauce had no flavour, it did have enough chicken but was chewy. The best bit of the takeaway was the crackers best I have had they were not greasy.

Despite some negative reviews this year, we booked for Mother's Day lunch. The food was very tasty but the portion sizes were on the smaller size and service was very good. Plus we asked for another serving of crispy duck, as we enjoyed this dish, but it was also on the small size.  We ordered an additional portion of Lemon Chicken which wasn't part of the set menu and was charged £10.50 (where was are used to pay £5.80).

Went here with friends. Firstly the seating is cramped together. On a round table they like 2 people to sit side by side sqaushed together. As a table of 3, we moved around the table so we had more room and they seem to have issues with that despite only 2 people sitting on a larger table behind us. The management like to do things a certain way. If you ask for something additional like extra satay sauce this is at an additional cost. We had very small serving of about 3 teaspoons between 3 people and when we asked for more we were told we would have to order more ckicken skewers to get more satay sauce! I find that quite odd since they come round and ask you anyway if you want anymore of the same starters. The dishes we ordered weren't exactly overflowing with food so I can understand why other people on here have complained. I wouldn't risk having a take away from this place in case you are disapoointed with the portion sizes. With regards to how full the restaurant is, they weren't very busy for 7pm when we left. But I have been told by my friend that sometimes for the later sitting, it can get busy and you can't hear the person next to you talk because there are far too many people and the tables jammed together. The price is quite high for a buffet. I have been to other places where you pay less and get more food for your money. I don't think I would go back in a hurry!

We are long time customers as have never found anywhere else that offers the same quality as Keis. We dined in last year and it was worryingly quiet. They changed the price of the all you can eat option and restricted the number of dishes you can order in one go to 5. I think people are confusing this as a maximum but you can order more as soon as they bring out the first lot. Its purely to deter people from over ordering and wasting food. Re: the price - I think it went up around £7-8pp in one go which made it more obvious. I think they left it too low for too long as at £21pp it was insane value for the amount you could eat. People complaining about the new price seem to think all chinese food should be dirt cheap. We recently had a couple of takeawaysfrom here and as always the quality was top notch. I would rather drive 15 mins to collect here than order elsewhere just because they might deliver. These guys are usually very quick even on a friday or saturday evening so I order on arrival rather than before leaving just to ensure its super hot and not been waiting for me. The prices have risen (as they have for all restaurants) and I will admit some dishes are strangely priced e.g. Sweet and Sour at £13.50 and crispy seaweed £5.50 (takeaway prices) so for that I drop one star. As for quantity I dont notice any real difference. I ordered 8 items for my wife and I and that was enough to feed us both for two nights and we were stuffed both times. I think if you are used to getting chicken balls in a bag from a chinese / chippy then you may expect more quantity and lower prices. But for me the quality is a different level to those types of takeaway and I would always pay more for quality over quantity. The only other chinese I know of a similar quality is Chef Peking in Finchampstead and their prices are pretty much the same and maybe even higher. My usual order is ribs (either in peking sauce or salt and pepper chilli), thai smoked chicken (I am not sure its thai and its not smoked but it tastes awesome) and crispy chill beef or sweet and sour pork hong kong style. All are awesome imho.

I went tonight for a take away 12/3/23. I ordered the shredded chilli beef and egg friend rice which cost me just under £14. On collection I checked the beef as there seemed to be a really small amount of food in the container. I questioned this with the manager and I said there is a really small amount of shredded beef in here for £9. He assured me this was for one portion and “ that is it”. I retuned home and I was so cross at the lack of food quantity that I called to speak to the manager again. I expressed how disappointed I’am with the food and that for £9 I expect a lot more shredded beef. He said that “this is the portion size darling, and I must not of been here before” I said I’ve been many times and this isn’t an acceptable amount of food for the cost. He wasn’t willing to help in any way- I wanted acknowledgment that the amount I was given was piss poor for £9 ! The egg friend rice was bland, tasteless and unsatisfactory ! Sadly I won’t be going here again. The other Chinese’s take outs I go to in Maiden place would serve a container that size full of food! I’m cross I’ve spent £14 on tonight for a very unsatisfactory meal that didn’t fill me !

Really enjoyed our evening Don’t understand the bad reviews. Absolutely nothing to complain about here. We will come back again.

We were regular visitors but restaurant has changed hands and prices have risen to an extortionate price limited menu and small portions sadly we will not be visiting again

We have been loyal costumers for years, visiting on many special occasions. Recently they changed hands. The portions are now much smaller and prices extortionate . When we asked if we could have a fortune cookie they wanted to charge us extra money. Although the food still tastes good, but not incredible like on previous visits, we won’t be returning for a while. We were almost rushed out of the door last time we were there even though we spent plenty of money and were happy to spend more. They even asked if we wanted the bill before we even enquired about it, I found the whole experience rushed and disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Booked Keis when we arrived we were not greeted with a warm welcome. As we had come back after a few years the menu (which was eat as much as you like) was totally halved in size and was so over priced £29.50pp!! When the food arrived the portions were so small but we still went on to eat as we order more. The food without sounding very rude was so bland and tasteless. It seemed like the food had been cooked before hand and just heated up. We tried the next course and taste was not there! We decided to leave after paying the bill very dissatisfied ! We would not recommend !

I regularly get a takeaway from this place. My family love the food. This is the only Chinese restaurant I like for miles. Food is aways great and quality consistent.

We used to go here often both dine in and takeaway but have not been for around 3 years and heard it had changed hands so hoped the food was still great. We went on a Weds night and it was very quiet (only table there after 8.30) which was good for us but not for them. The all you can eat has changed to a tick menu option with a limit of 5 dishes per order to stop people ordering loads and leaving food. 2 of our party of 5 were vegetarian which messes that up a little but spoke to the waiter and no issues. Food was a great as I remember. Portions were decent and no issues ordering more and were offered more starters and duck. Cost is almost £30pp which is a big jump from what I remember but in all honesty it was way too low for what you get and all restaurants have upped prices. I can understand if you are not a big eater it may not seem value for money but you can order a set menu or individual dishes so should be no issues. Overall we loved it and I just hope the lack of diners doesn't mean we might lose this gem.

Went for an early supper. Food is usually good and this was no exception. Not cheap and nor exceptional but good. Usually don't feel that welcome when I am on my own (despite spending £45 which is more than most spend on set meals per head) but this time service was good and friendly. Would recommend as a rule given the dearth of good Chinese restaurants locally.

Nice staff , food portion very tight can ask for more but very slow and reluctant to give you more . Not away to get return custom.

Best place to park is round the back next to the seven roses pub. Food is superb, clearly high quality ingredients and skilled chefs. Staff really helpful and chatty. Prices are good. Well worth a visit!

Thursday Evening, did not want to cook. Kei's food is always well cooked, (sizzling) hot, fresh. Service is always good. The buffet is very good value, tonight was no exception. Kicked off with five different starters, including a soup. Could have had more starters, but moved onto the pancake duck. Followed up with five dishes, followed by four more for the mains. Wobbled out of there to the car.

Very disappointing food , the quality very poor, dumplings were obviously frozen, chilli shredded beef was terrible, also from frozen , chicken chow main tasteless, very disappointing, very poor value for money

Exceptional food. Exceptional service. Best Chinese in Reading by far. Always warmly greeted. Advice on menu from the staff is superb. Good so delicious. Every mouthful is incredible. Great ambiance and also great parking available. Highly recommend.

Treated appallingly by the staff. Firstly we were very rudely told we could not come into the restaurant unless we put face masks on to walk 5 feet to the table ( this has not been a law for 2 months now) then when we were seated they asked my Little girl (9 years old) to follow them into another room to be measured as if she was over a certain height she must pay adult price of £25! she only nibbles at Chinese food and definitely doesn’t justify an adult portion! Then I requested a high chair for the infant child in our party and was told they don’t do them that they would simply “stack two chairs on top of each other to make it taller” completely unsafe! We were then told we could only choose 5 items from each course of the menu (even though it’s advertised as all you can eat!) honestly have never been treated so appallingly by a restaurant! We only came to the restaurant as we used to visit the runfold branch before it closed and always had such a lovely time. Food was also nothing special at all. I definitely would not visit again

This place used to be one of my favourite but since new management this place has gone downhill. Normal staffs are not allowed to take orders for food or drinks. It has to go through the main lady (Manager). It says eat much as you want (£25per person) but you only get to order food in a limited portions or limited dish. I understand they are trying avoid food wastage but group of more than 6 people would defo eat more than 2 portions of salt and pepper squid. THEY CHARGE YOU FOR CHILLI OIL.

I was just about to order from the vegetarian menu when the waitress admitted that all the veggie food is cooked with the meat and fish 8n the same oil. As they were quiet they cooked me some (pretty tastless) food fried in sesame oil....

Excellent Chinese food. The staff are very friendly and responsive. Theres a lot of choices on the menu (including Thai dishes) and the food is prepared fresh for each order. There’s a very good fresh cooked buffet service and the takeaways are good too.

Priced gone sky high overt 20% increase in a month never again. Ordered thr nornal yhat wr usually have but that increase is ridiculous

Over priced.. main dishes were randomly brought out. A dish was brought out 30 minutes later when we had already finished. A service charge automatically added which is cheeky considering their prices are so high anyway. Food wasn't great, would never return!

way we were tested on arrival. We were told masks had to be worn or no entry. This was not told to us when booking by phone, and is the only restaurant we have experienced this with now that rules have changed. Worse they charge 30 pence per person to supply a mask that must have cost them almost nothing to buy - abysmal customer service. Even worse it was clear that any regulars are exempt as some (not all) groups arriving were not requested to wear masks. As the tables were uncomfortably tightly packed mask wearing in the 3 steps from door to table seemed an irrelevance. Bizarrely the only beer served in a supposedly Chinese restaurant was Japanese, even though the menu shows Chinese beer. Drinks service was slow and several reminders had to be given to get the drinks we had requested. The terrible service cost them any kind of additional tip, and we will never return, nor will the friends we have already shared our experience with. What about the food? That was actually very nice, but have overall dining experience had been tarnished irretrievably.

Poor service, miniscule portions. Myself and three friends visited Kei's and left hugely dissatisfied, we could only put this down to the change of ownership. The service was slow, 20-30 mins between each serving, the starters areived and we had one tiny plate between 4 men. We immediately requested a new selection but were told we had to eat all that was there before ordering more to prevent waste. Understandable but at the same time 4 men eating child portions is unnecessary to then have to wait so long for the next roynd to arrive. The staff seemed more intereted in moving us along to the next courses than ensuring we were satisfied. So far removed from the Keis of old which was a much loved and trusted restaurant. Will not be rsturning any time soon.

Will not go back there again. Sat near the door and nearly froze to death, very uncomfortable. The staff did not understand English when we ordered the drinks, not even a jug of water! The food came and was not appetising to look at but...

12 years since I last visited Keis. Sadly the owner has died since but the standard of food and service is still very high yet competitively priced. All you can eat on Sunday evenings but orders limited to ensure you don't have more than you can manage (no doggy bags!)

Incredible food, great service and large selection to choose from in the buffet style cooked to order menu. Highy recommend the pork ribs to start and spring rolls. The Thai roasted pork and lemon chicken dishes were also amazing too in the mains. Their duck pancakes in the middle course were sublime. Will definitely be coming back!

Have eaten here for years. Not had a Chinese for a while and thought would have one for our dinner. Disgusting order was partial wrong, was told 20 minutes to collect so turned up after 10 mins. Living 2 minutes drive away from home to find my food cold. Thai chicken rubbery and cold bbq ribs well normally get 5 only 4 and the sauce well was a drip. No flavour to any of it. On top of that I order the same all the time to my shock to find cost had increased by about £6-7. Rip off. Kei’s have lost a customer from 20 years. Never again

Found by mistake, excellent service, friendly, welcoming restaurant. Food was super tasty and very reasonable, will definitely visit again if in Reading.

Came here last week with my wife and two children having recently moved closer to the area and wanting to find a good Chinese we thought we’d give Keis a try- so glad we did as the food and service were both excellent. They do a all you can eat menu with pretty much all of the items from the a la Carte menu for £21.50 per person(kids under a certain height half price). Food is all brought to your table and you order five dishes at a time which is more than enough tbh. This includes plenty of starters and also soups/ middle course of crispy Peking duck and multiple choices for mains- fish/lamb/beef/chicken inc sizzling dishes. The food was all top notch and super tasty. We ordered the garlic butter prawns/ dry spare ribs/ battered king prawns / satay chicken and salt & pepper squid. The crispy duck here is one of the best we’ve had and we’ve been to Min Jiang in London which is renowned for their duck and charges five times the price for it. The skin was super crispy and the duck meat juicy and soft. We asked for chilli oil and they’ll so made me a soy/sesame oil/chilli oil sauce which was delicious with the starters and the duck. For mains we ordered the lamb with ginger and spring onion/ chicken and black bean sauce and the fish with ginger and spring onion - all were delicious and well cooked- not gloopy in anyway. The service from all the staff was excellent and the manager- I think his name was Johnny was very helpful and accommodating. We can’t wait to go back and eat here again.

Great meal, very attentive service. We chose a mix of individual starters and the peking duck to follow and some sizzling dishes with noodles and spicy rice. The food was tasty and lots of it. Lovely night out.
