New owners Adam and Caz gave a warm welcome even when they were not officially open. Nothing was too much trouble. We wish them all the very best in their new venture and look forward to seeing them on our next visit. Rob and Pam

We stayed overnight walking the Pennine Way. Hadn't realised they did evening meals, but if the extensive breakfast was anything to go by, they would have been excellent. Really comfortable bed, attentive, without being intrusive, hosts and a wonderful location. Highly recommend.

We called in for tea, coffee & cake while walking in the area. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we had lovely home made cakes and biscuits with our teas and coffee’s. The owner told us he’s recently refurbished and reopened some of the hotel rooms which is great news. Kearton House is in a lovely spot. The hotel had understandably suffered through the Covid years and it’s great to see things starting to turn round. I wish the owners every success and definitely recommend this as a place to call in on or stay at.

Yes he is a rude man, went there for years. But once he took it over it went down hill. Then he ruined the place by trying to make it self contained accommodation , i suspect without planning permission. If its up for sale then about time.

We were touring though Swaledale and stopped at the tea rooms for a drink. The service was very welcoming and friendly and the coffee came with free biscuits - what’s not to like! Small car park at the rear made parking easy in what is a very small hamlet.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel in the tiny but lovely village of Thwaite. We had a good sized room with beautiful views on 2 sides. Our room and the rest of the hotel was very clean throughout. The owners and staff were most friendly and helpful. Due to Covid restrictions, breakfast was delivered in a basket to our room but there was still a good choice of hot and cold items to enjoy. (and a flask of freshly brewed filter coffee). There are plenty of wonderful walks in the area - as long or as short as you wish.

Visited the tea rooms whilst in Thwaite for a trip down memory lane (friend used to stay in house two doors down as a child and spent hours with her sister playing in the river). The staff were super friendly, the menu was extensive (difficult to choose) and I experienced my first traditional Americano coffee. Didn't want to leave and would highly recommend.

We popped in here on a damp day when we just wanted a cuppa. We went through the tea room door and looked for a table large enough for 5. As there were already a number of people we found ourselves in the restaurant at the back (which opened off the tea room). The waitress was laying tables for the evening, but willingly left one for us to use. We ordered our drinks at the counter, and they were brought to us along with a large, complementary biscuit each. They looked home made and were tasty. Thank you.

Called into this cafe following a long walk in the Dales and it was well worth it. My wife and. Shared a pot of tea along with a couple of delicious scones and they were delicious in fact probably the best we have tasted, the scones that is. We sat outside taking in the beauty of this tiny village and when our snack arrived the gentleman who served us gave us some information on the village and its history, which was very welcome. Stop off here and savour the treats available whilst enjoying the quiet relaxed atmosphere and it will recharge your batteries.

we initially stopped for a coffee and after enjoying that (along with the welcome and the view out of the back windows) we decided on the return journey from a brief walk that we would call for a late lunch too: all the food was good, and the value excellent ...can't say anything about dinners or B&B but as a daytime café it was a superb find, also having some attractive gifts and a few useful walking aids in a small shop area

Booked in one evening for a meal. The food was very mediocre at best, 70's throw back, very surprised considering I saw the chef and he was in his 30's. Veg was what I'd expect to be served in a hospital or retirement home unfortunately. The food service is also very bizarre and something that you'd expect to see in Faulty Towers. The man who was clearly the owner was a very rude person indeed. Everything was too much trouble apparently! We would never go back.

We have just returned from yet another visit to this wonderful family run country hotel in the heart of the Yorksshire Dales. It is set in a small hamlet and the hotel is the heart of the community. Small shop 3 miles away. The hotel only has 12 rooms, so very cosy and extremely friendly. The rooms themselves are very clean and comfortable. If you want a few restful days, in wonderful scenery this is the place to be and is a walkers paradise.

We Have been spoiled clearly with fabulous breakfasts on our Porsche weekend drive outs. Toft Gate at Pateley bridge and the cross Scythes at Totely have given us great expectations. They were not met here. At all.Salty bacon, overly greasy fried bread, a sausage that looked like a prop from a cheap horror movie. Not on my list to return back to :(

The village is tiny and so too looks the hotel, but it belies it's tucked away position backing onto the most beautiful views. Having passed this place initially looking for a tea-shop we returned needing a tasty snack for our lunch.Probably my fault that my expectations were high when I ordered the panini with the hot beef and onion relish...not too long to wait and we were served. I should have gone with the ham and cheese like my wife did! When I ask for a beef sandwich in Yorkshire - well I expect a slice of the best meat with real flavour.Sorry Kearton, but this was a real sad let down. The slice of pale, limp, anaemic meat would shame a supermarket deli. It was stringy and tasteless and no one came during or after to ask if I was happy with my plate. I had to remove it as I can't swallow it.Otherwise, my better half enjoyed her choice, and the other bits on the plate, a salad and coleslaw and crisps and rather nice oily dressing were tasty. As were the chips.I can't fault the scenery, I felt all else was good, even the toilets were spanking clean. I actually want to come back and stay a couple of nights, and walk and rest here. But not for the beef.

Last month, whilst staying at an excellent B & B in the nearby village of Muker, my wife and I had dinner on the last night of our holiday (21.10.16) at the Kearton Country Hotel in Thwaite. With high expectations of a particularly enjoyable meal and a quality experience generally, we gathered, as is required by the Hotel, with the other diners in one of the lounges at 6.30 p.m. to study the menu and place our order over pre dinner drinks. The lounge we sat in was poorly appointed and rather unpleasant, which did not bode well. Unfortunately this extended to our meal which was spoilt by my wife being served a dish of an extremely poor piece of cod, which was partly inedible, and we suspected after dissecting it not cod at all. Nevertheless not wishing to make a fuss my wife soldiered on with it but in the end we felt we had to complain to the waiter and did so. After apparently consulting with the kitchen staff he did his best to assure us the fish was cod but nothing was offered to replace it...For my main course I choose grouse, which I love and have eaten a large number of over many years. The taste of roast grouse is normally instantly recognisable as most people who eat them know, but unfortunately the one I was served was almost tasteless and if I have been blindfolded I would not have known what type of bird it was... nevertheless I ate it and did not complain, as I felt there was no point in doing so.My wife and I finished our meal with ice cream and left without coffee, but nevertheless gave the waiter the usual 10% tip as we felt that he was not to blame for what he had served us and he had been perfectly pleasant. As we had such a poor meal we shall not return to the Hotel.

The Kearton is on the B6270 between Leyburn and Kirkby Stephen in the north of the Yorkshire Dales. We came across it whilst driving the B270 - an interesting road !The café / restaurant is part of the hotel and we stopped for a quick lunch. A very friendly and helpful welcome and we chose a table overlooking the garden and fells behind the hotel. There are outside tables which would be very pleasant in summer weather. The menu was varied and whilst not large was interesting with snacks, sandwiches and main courses. We opted for sandwiches, which were freshly prepared, well presented and very tasty. A good place to stop and we would come here again.

Having walked around Gunnerside we wanted a nice bowl of thick soup and a soft drink - without going over into Hawes. The Kearton Country Hotel and Restaurant, in the tiny hamlet of Thwaite, was ideal. Surprisingly large dining area and helpful young Eastern European couple. Rich leek & potato soup with a warm crusty wholemeal roll was EXACTLY what the Dr ordered. Would definitely go again and look at the wide-ranging menu.

Called here for a snack lunch whilst on holiday in the area. The gentleman working there was not very welcoming and hardly spoke. I ordered a pint of beer and a bottle of mineral water but had to ask for a glass for the water. We ordered cheese on toast, which in fairness is what was served but it did not look very appetising, very bland with no hint of garnish. Even a sprig of parsley would have made a difference. This may seem a bit picky but we have always had such good culinary experiences elsewhere in the area in our twenty years of visiting the Dales. Our plates were collected in silence by the same gentleman, who did not ask if we wanted anything else (we may well have done if we had been made to feel more welcome.) Very disappointing, will not be returning.

Two of us stopped for a drink and a bite to eat whilst out on our bikes for the day.We used the car park at the rear of the hotel but sat outside the front of the building in the warm sun.The waitress was very welcoming and efficient serving two homemade ginger biscuits with our drinks. We each ordered sausage baps which sadly were a bit of a let down as the two sausages in each were the thinnest we've ever seen. Can only judge the food on what we ordered and would still visit again but perhaps order something different.
