Katana Japanese (Teppanyaki & sushi) cuisine in South Holland

Food was tasty but room temperature. Menu confusing and didn’t know what to order. Staff brought replacement drinks without explaining that our choice wasn’t available. Was hoping for a live cooking table but was disappointed to receive a basic table.

Absolutely amazing - food wonderful, service brilliant- had tepanyaki and everything was done so well and professionally. Party of 4 and not one complaint between us!

Decent Japanese food in spalding, decor slightly sparse but the staff attentive and friendly. We had the vegetable noodles and chef special sushi platter and although on the pricey side, it was freshly made and flavoursome with the dishes nicely decorated. Be aware there is a 10% service charge added to the bill

I've just been with my parents and son as a treat for him after finishing his GCSEs. His favourite food is Sushi and has been here before with my parents a few months ago for his birthday. This time, I managed to join him. There is no car park. so if have limited mobility take this into account. Inside is well spaced so would easily fit a chair. We ate for 5pm so it was quiet. A thank you to the staff. The servers were all kind and polite. But a special thanks goes to the gentleman, he was kind and friendly and informative. He didn't mind my son order more sushi through out the evening or telling me the type of noodles and how they were cooked. The crispy noodles were devine. And the sushi... Well, it was the best sushi I've tasted, I can see why my son kept asking for more. We will definitely be returning. Thank you all.

We often get takeaway from here or eat in occasionally, the food is really very good, my favourites are the yakisoba or tofu katsu curry, both dishes are excellent can not fault them. Service is sometimes super fast or super slow but it’s always friendly, I went with my 18 month old recently and they were really lovely with him and understanding about the mess he made. Highly recommend one of the nicest places to eat in the area!

Food average. This was our 4th visit to Katana, and now our last. Usually the food is great, as is the service. Unfortunately not this time. We felt rushed, no sooner had we sat down, picked up the menus, than the waitress came for the order. Then the starters arrived, eaten and plates quickly removed and the next course was there. My husband had the steak with the teriyaki sauce, which came with sticky rice, and stir fried onions and peppers., which were only warm. He said the steak was chewy and fatty. But when covered in a sauce, poor steak can be disguised. I had the prawns in a creamy garlic sauce, nice. But the peppers and rice, I didn’t like. The rice was too sticky, not like they usually serve. The sting in the tail was the bill, and the 10% service charge. The bill arrived, quickly followed by the card machine, which he covered the detail on the bill. I paid, I picked up the bill to look at later, and there was the service charge!! The whole bill was over £72. We only had a soft drink each too. No wonder it was quiet in there. I have contacted them on their ‘contact us’ page. 10 days in and no reply from them.

We thought we'd try this as we were up visiting for a few days. We were not to be disappointed. We booked a Teppanyaki table and we were very well entertained. Our chef was called Rupesh and his culinary and juggling skills would put Tom Cruise to shame (ala Cocktail movie). The food was great and tasty and Rupesh made sure we had a great experience. We will be back for sure!

The starter of the Japanese prawns was fine, but as it was deep fried from frozen it was probably fairly easy to prepare. The Squid was tough and the Green curry tasted processed, not freshly prepared. We were given some daft excuse that the wine list was being changed so only three white wines were available. It honestly depends on your expectations and most reviews on here speak highly. For us it was not authentic.

Brilliant night we had for my Lads 16th birthday. Can't thank the people enough and the food was amazing, Rupesh was a star and kept us entertained and it was great to watch. My son was really really happy. Cheers all, made a special 16th for a brilliant chap.

Me and my friend went to this restaurant food was great but discrimination for black people was clear as day. I am black and my friend is white . They put us in a corner filled with only black people which was far away from the rest of the dining room. The place was predominantly white and you do not get to choose your seat when booking. They tried to serve me dry lamb but replaced it after I complained which was great but it felt as though it was done intentionally. Very ironic seeing most of the servers are not white.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend getting to teppanyaki meal so that you can see the chefs cooking it right in front of you. Not only do they col but they also do tricks with their cooking equipment and play games with you. The food was delicious and even the starter was presented beautifully. The service was wonderful. The waiters were kind to all of the guests.

We visited for the first time on Saturday and will definitely be back. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival, and throughout our meal. We had cocktails and plenty of time to choose our food. The food itself was very tasty. The teppanyaki table was amazing! We chose set teppenyaki menus which included mixed starter, the meat or fish of our choice plus a choice of sauce (you can have a mix of sauces to create your own if you like) and a dessert. Sunni, our chef for the evening, was entertaining and clearly skilled at his job. Special mention though has to go to Sam who really showed how much difference good service makes to an evening. He was friendly, professional and kind. Sam - you are a credit to this restaurant and the way you approach your role is a standout example to others! We hope to visit again soon.

Having previously visited the more glam looking Katana in Peterborough we decided to give this one a try. Decor wise it’s not in the same league but it’s not pretending to be. I actually preferred it here. The friendly welcome, lovely service, atmosphere and food was top notch. I’d totally recommend this place, especially for a teppenyaki table and will definitely return.

Had the chefs table again. All food cooked right infront of you. Chef was really good and entertaining. Food was lovely yet again. Sauces were great. All had different stuff. Everyone was more than happy. Worth a trip to get a great experience.

Shall not waste much of my time on this Katana, Spalding review. Much the same as the previous review I had the chefs table booked for Sat 4/3 for a family birthday. It had been booked well in advance and I had previously spoken to Neil about it and had email confirmation of the booking. On Fri 3/3 I was contacted by Katana who advised they had me booked in for that night (Friday 3/3). I explained they had recorded it incorrectly and forwarded my email confirmation for the 4th. They advised the chefs table had now been booked on the Saturday by another party and no other tables were available for the time frame I had available. Not even a sorry. Disgraceful - and left us in a right mess.

I booked 3 weeks in advance for our family group to celebrate my son’s birthday. I asked for the special table at the front which is a chef’s table apparently. I called the day prior to ensure everything would be perfect and they seemed confused about our booking but said it would be ok. They then called me at 15 mins past our booking time still the same day prior to ask if we were still coming?! On the actual day of the booking we walked in only to be told we had a normal table and that there was a large group taking up the chef’s tables. We would not have come had we known this. The experience is vastly inferior on a regular table and this was a huge disappointment to our group and really put a downer on our special night. No apology was made and it was all glossed over and dismissed. There is a 10% service charge, yet the wrong noodles were brought, mistakes were made with drinks and we had to pour our own wine. Food was fine, but absolutely not worth the almost £50pp bill (considering half the table were kids and one was a baby). Chewy beef, basic stodgy rice, etc. Sashimi was reasonable. Noodles fair. We live in London and this was a hefty bill even by our standards. We would not return nor recommend, even at the chef’s table.

We have had takeaway sushi boxes from here several times and everytime it is absolutely delicious. This sort of cuisine is hard to come by locally, this is the best we have had. Great menu to choose from, highly recommend!

I’d been away for two years, not helped of course by the pandemic and also my moving country at the time, but coming back to katana after all this time and extremely pleasantly surprised by the fact the standards are higher than ever, I cannot possibly fault them whatsoever. It is with great delight that even with menu updates and price updates to cover the new cost of eating, that I have been blown away by such outstanding food and staff. After craving sushi for a while since my return home, the soft shell crab tempura and the sushi deluxe were the best I’d ever had, even better than I remember and katana will always have a soft spot in my heart for that. You cannot simply walk by this restaurant and not try it for yourself! The desserts menu had an update from when I was last here and my inner child screamed for the cookies and cream icecream and was very pleasantly surprised by the softness and the creaminess of the dessert akin to its name. I cannot fault the staffs service and always wonderful to see old faces continuing to thrive through it all and it is a pleasure to become a regular again!

One of our favourite places to eat out , food is absolutely excellent, cleanliness 5* and you could not ask for nicer and friendly staff , whether a group, couple or eating alone you arrive as a customer and leave as friends.Give it a try it’s a gem and one we want to keep.

Rang the restaurant twice and both times were rude saying I couldn't have a delivery at 9pm only 8pm, made me wait almost an hour when I got there at 8!! was meant to have 30 pieces of sushi only got 22, really rude staff over the phone, bones in the fish and deep-fried shell! No meat!! Then at 8;30 had a phone call to say they ran out of salmon!!!

Just had a a great experience with a katana delivery. Freshly prepared and delivered very quickly. The food was superb. Obviously we'd like to be at the restaurant, but this really is the next best alternative. Excellent!

We booked in advance to ensure we could avail ourselves of a Teppenyaki Table (min. four people) and we loved it. A really warm and friendly greeting and a strong emphasis on managing COVID risks, helped us relax and focus on the dining experience. Chef also helped us understand our options, either Set-Menu or individual starters then a Teppenyaki selection. So we ordered a few starters and shared them between ourselves, before Chef then returned to prepare Teppenyahi Steak; Duck; Chicken & Seabass right in front of us, each with an individual Sauce/Flavour and all accompanied by wonderful Egg-Fried Rice. Brilliant. After the Food we moved to a separate, ordinary table for our Desserts and Coffee in order to free-up the Teppenyaki Table for others.

Visited for my boyfriend’s birthday and the food was absolutely incredible. Despite not being sat at a teppanyaki table (4+ people) we were able to watch the chefs for another table - amazing and exciting to watch!

Could not do enough for us, very welcoming, lovely cocktails and the staff honestly were so attentive despite being fully booked out and busy. I had the dumplings starter and some salmon sushi absolutely love the dumplings. Will be back.

I and my friend were excited to try Katana's Japanese food. I ordered vegetable gyōzas to start and my friend ordered fried salmon balls. My gyōzas, which were tasty, were only steamed and when I asked the waiter why was this, he said I should have said that I wanted them steamed AND fried... My friend's salmon balls, which tasted nice, were fried too quickly because the middle was cold...For mains, my choice was stir-fried soba noodles and my friend's was a vegetable katsu curry. What arrived for me was spaghetti in some sort of sauce. My friend's curry was not curry at all and the 'vegetables' were potatoes and soy pieces in a bland indescribably flavoured sauce.We also ordered a portion each of an eight-piece avocado, cucumber and mango sushi (maki). Only one portion arrived and two pieces were missing. When this was pointed out to the waiter, he seemed annoyed with us and went off for a while and returned with another, this time, eight-piece portion of maki (still no mango), announcing that the "kitchen had 'given' us another portion. This maki was made of flavourless rice and was very cold, as if it was served from the 'fridge. Because of the quality of the food and the waiter's attitude we decided to leave as soon as possible, without ordering puddings. The waitress came over and, as we were paying by card and cash, she took the card payment, which included an almost 10% tip. The cash was left on the table, again with an almost 10% tip. Our evening ended with us, as we exited the restaurant and were walking off, being chased by the waiter yelling: "for the rest of the bill!" I said, none too pleased, that my friend had paid by card. All in all, an experience never to be repeated...

Kata Japanese restaurant is my beast restaurant I been here so many times food and service always excellent one of the best restaurant in Spalding I will highly recommend this restaurant my friend and family.

Can’t fault the quality of the food. We had the vegetable spring rolls to start. Hot, freshly cooked and very tasty. Then I had prawns in creamy garlic sauce, with grilled rice, and came with sliced peppers and bean sprouts, stir fried. My hubby had steak in teriyaki sauce and the same ‘sides’ as me. It was fab. We both said we would order the same meal again on a return visit.I had a plum wine spritzer, which was lovely too.We were too full to have a dessert though.I have dropped a rating to 4 because, unfortunately the restaurant lacks atmosphere. It’s a converted fire station, but some imagination is required to sort that out.

Fantastic food served by a top team headed by Neil who always gives an excellent and fun experience. We have used this restaurant numerous times and continue to go back as we always have a great time. The staff are all excellent and join in to help create a memorable experience. Never disappointed.

This was my first time @ Katana. I couldn't ask for a better night, the staff were fantastic and so helpful. The food was amazing and the chef that cooked our food in front of us was fantastic, hat off to him. We will be back again .

I visit Katana as regular as I can and I have never been disappointed, Neil the owner and chef is absolutely amazing, has accommodated last min requests for groups of family and work colleagues more times than I can remember. Food is some of the best ive ever eaten, the wagyu beef is to die for !!!! By far and away the best resturant in the local area. Should be number 1 on here for sure.

Our main server was Neil and he was absolutely delightful! Although still all of the staff are also very accommodating and happy to help.Food was incredible, unfortunately there was no thai green cheesecake which is absolutely to die for.However the food was perfection as always and teamed with Neil's good sense of humor and good service is was a fantastic night.

This is my fourth visit with family. We all love their food and children do too. Despite being very busy, the staff were treating us well as how we wanted to be. I had my California roll, Prawn Tempura for starter followed by delicious meal and desert. And next time I will be trying their gorgeous looking lobster. Can’t wait to visit again.

Was expecting great things having read the reviews. However we found the food a bit bland and the beef a little tough considering it was ribeye. The chef's special dessert was just a bit ice cream and banana fritter, not special at all.

We visited Katana last week after hearing good things about the food and booked a teppanyaki table. Our chef, Anil, was fabulous and made the food just how we wanted it. We had a mixture of Fish & meat and would highly recommend Katana, especially to people who live in Peterborough as it is worth the journey to Spalding. Look forward to visiting the restaurant again soon! Anil provided us with hand sanitising gel both on arrival and when leaving, and all tables were following distancing guidelines.

We had heard good things about Katana so went last night for dinner. (Sanitiser available and Covid 19 procedures in place.)The service was tip top and the food was fresh, full of flavour and entertaining as we sat at a teppanyaki table. The sushi was excellent. Great place for seafood and Japanese food. We will certainly be visiting again soon! Try the Sake Bombs
