One of the luxurious and delicious Asian restaurants in London. No advance reservation is required. The food is delicious and the staff are wonderful, they advise you on the most delicious dishes and provide you with recommendations from the chef. The place and its atmosphere are worth a visit. The restaurant offers afternoon tea (but to be honest, I haven't tried it) Delicious and I recommend it Food 10/8 Service 10/10 Prices are high

The fact this place has a Michelin Star is ludicrous. The food is fine; not good, fine, not bad either, though. The menu is laid out poorly with no real steer as to how much food to order. We tried to ask, but our waiter was mostly incomprehensible. We were curious about what we definitely should have and about what was meant by the duck offerings, he said some things, and we said we would have a think and he left us. We planned to order some white wine to have with some fish starters, then some red wine to have with our mains. The next time we saw the waiter, two of the starters we talked about turned up with him. One was the wasabi prawns, and one was the yellow tail ceviche - which is what we wanted so great but we didn't actually order them, nor did we get the wine. After we finished the starters, my wife loved the prawns, I thought both things were OK, we ordered our mains and sides. We got the black bean beef (Wagyu) and the lamb. Both were OK but the Wagyu at £102 was definitely not worth the extra £70. We also got the broccolini, the aubergine and the garlic - too much food but we wanted to be wowed and experience what they did. They were all fine. They brought us the desert menu after the mains, we asked for recommendations, they said a little bit and left us to it. It must have been 10 minutes after they brought us the menus that we ordered the Durian desert and the creme brulee, then they told us that the durian fruit dessert took 25 minutes. Again, they were both fine, apart from the coffee ice cream with the creme brulee which was exceptional. We both ordered desert wines, the Banyuls and the Chinese Ice Wine, the waiter poured the ice wine and there was only a half glass, they spent the next 10 minutes looking for another bottle, but couldn't find one. He gave us that one the house. All in all the meal was OK, if it had cost £120 we would both have been satisfied, it was over £420. I have eaten in a couple of dozen Michelin Starred restaurants and for this one to be put on a par with Cail Bruich, L'Orangerie, Number One, Nomicos, Bardal (it had one when I went, not two) is doing those places a real injustice.

I should have known looking at the pictures of the food online. All that fancy plating is often a sign of a restaurant’s need to impress if the food doesnt. But a Michelin Star Chinese restaurant always needs to be tried. Walking in I had the second negative signal. The restaurant decor is so tacky that calling it “90s style” would be a compliment. The pork was extremely tough, the sauce basic china town cuisine. The chicken way too sweet. Full of MSG which I don’t even mind that much when going to the local spot but had hoped a michelin star restaurant would steer away from. After we finished, the waiter asked for our feedback. I pointed out that the meat had been too tough. In the US one would at least get a dessert offered in return. Here: nada. Go to China Tang or Imperial Chinese instead!

A good restaurant offering Chinese classics at a good standard. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, their dessert selection was enticing with different options to choose from such as a salted caramel soufflé. I'm overall giving 4 stars because I got good dishes that were well cooked but did not exceed my expectations from a 1 Michelin star restaurant. I would recommend the restaurant to reduce its large selection of vegetables, meat and fish to focus on unique tasting style dishes that tell the story of the region they represent. Overall, you'd have a good meal but perhaps as you would in any other good Chinese restaurant.

Booked with the Kai on the 26th of January for my parent’s anniversary. They did go there and dine as per the time of their reservation and even confirmed that the reservation was under my name. OpenTable then emails me asking me to confirm if I attended the reservation, which I did and confirmed so with OpenTable. I even told them I can share the relevant card statement from which my parents paid the dinner bill. Then Kai charges my £120 pounds out of the blue over a week later for absolutely no reason through the card that is attatched to my OpenTable account. There are better ways for restaurants to earn money, Kai!

At least in the US if you don’t have a reservation they will still seat you but with a wait. The moment I walked in the lady rudely said we don’t have anything and turned around. Extremely rude and unprofessional. A restaurant that cannot speak/treat its customers with kindness should not get $$. I would not recommend going here. My husband and I went for my birthday lunch on 13/01/24 and I was excited for the lunch as I had seen good reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we got a table which was in a corner even though there was space in the good part of restaurant. We were not happy with the table choice so I asked the team if they could change it( only because I saw a free table). We asked as soon as we settled in, no order was taken etc. Upon asking the team, they suggested that its a table for 4 and they are expecting 4 people on that table. After 10 min, we see a couple walk in and that table was given to them which was rude and not accommodating. Hence, it was a not experience we enjoyed as we were seated in a space where they were getting the food and drinks for other customers which didn't feel very exclusive for a place like Kai.

Very disappointing experience. I don’t quite understand how Kai has a Michelin star. The wasabi prawns, as their signature dish, were literally just prawns in wasabi flavoured mayonnaise. The salt and pepper squid was chewy and dry. The roast Chilean seabass was delicious but, as with the prawns, nothing interesting or special, particularly for the price (£66). The ginger rice was just boiled rice with no hint of ginger. Atmosphere is loud club music and plastic flowers - reminiscent of Ivy Asia but for 3 times the cost. Service was fine if a little slow and awkward - two people took our drinks order and we waited 10/15 minutes to order food following this. This would have been an average meal even if we were not expecting a Michelin star experience. As we were, and paying for one too, it was quite shockingly poor. I would not recommend going to this restaurant at all.

The experience fell flat with the table seating and the lackluster atmosphere. It felt like an elevated local neighborhood restaurant. Our experience at Kai was rather peculiar. The manager contributed to an uncomfortable atmosphere during my birthday celebration by posing intrusive questions about our professions and closely examining the payment cards we used. Moreover, they made us feel uneasy about capturing memories with pictures during our celebratory meal. When we sought clarification on their policy, we were informed it was verbal. However, I can't help but wonder if our unfavourable treatment was influenced by our status as customers, especially given the establishment's reputation for serving a high-class clientele. I very recently visited Kai Mayfair with high expectations as we had seen/heard rave reviews about it and so we were expecting our best dining experience yet. However, I definitely was not as impressed as I was hoping to be. The decor of the restaurant is lovely, artsy & creative (although we noticed broken decor on entrance), the ambience/music is soothing and relaxed, tables are nicely spaced, and the staff are all lovely & helpful. Unfortunately, for a one Michelin star restaurant, I just don’t believe the food/drink were up to par. Don’t get me wrong, the food was tasty but not good enough for a 5 star rating— food temperatures were not consistent, flavours were there but not anything mind blowing, and the drinks we ordered (Spicy Mango mocktail and Kai Apple Martini) were basic. In all honesty, the Kai Apple Martini tasted like a green Apple Sours with garnish, and the Spicy Mango Mocktail tasted like standard mango juice with LOTS of pepper/tajine seasoning in it. We ordered 2 appetisers, 2 alcoholic/mocktail drinks, 2 soft drinks, a bottle of water and 2 mains and our bill total was above £250. A pricey bill is to be expected in such a restaurant but in my opinion, the cost of the meal against the quality and service provided just didn’t seem justifiable. Unfortunately, my visit left me wondering what all the hype was about and I’m not personally in a rush to go back.

Came here on Sunday for the afternoon tea to celebrate a friends birthday. The decor is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. Crazy rich asian themed with menus displayed on the tables inside the crazy rich asian books. Loved the bird cages and birds on the tables where you could tell your wishes to and clip onto the surrounding bird cages in the restaurant. Also loved the wind up chirping birds on the table. The waiter explained the menu selection, and we received a complimentary cocktail to start. This was a tea cocktail and was really tasty, non alcohol versions can also be served. We picked our teas and selected our afternoon tea option and were quickly served a beautiful spread, and the waiter explained what each dish was. I must admit the savoury portions are very small and they don't let you know that you could get a free refill of any of the afternoon tea foods but because it's more of a higher end afternoon tea we asked the waiter and he brought us another serving. We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the afternoon tea and loved all the details put into it. The toilets here are also amazingly designed. I will definitely be back again

Exceptional experience overall, but the prices are eye-watering. Worth it, if you can afford it...

Decor is great, food was amazing even with the slightly limited menu due to COVID situation. Staff are friendly and well informed, the service is just the best. An awesome meal with great wines to match, could not have asked for anything more We highly recommend trying the Chinese Ice Wine (Cailonglin Vidal, Silver Label I think) with desert which was something recommended by the team and did not disappoint!! Thank You to the entire team for a very memorable meal and a great evening

Lovely experience overall, and we left satisfied. The food was delicious and Service was perfect in a luxurious atmosphere. Slightly reduced the rating, due to small portions of some of the dishes eg the £50 lobster main and soy beef starter The tiger prawns and steak were excellent but at this price point, you expect everything to be five star
