Just Wok in Cherwell

It annoys me to have to leave this review as this restaurant used to be so good but it has gone down hill rapidly within the past 6 months. Too many times have things been missed off our order, with us only realising once back at home. The food is now mediocre at best with poor quality meat being used and varying amounts depending on which day of the week you order. Be prepared to have your order accepted by the restaurant and receiving a pick up time, but when you arrive you can bet it won’t even of been started. This is not the first time - yet the silly excuses come pouring out again and again. If you are looking for a reliable Chinese restaurant with top quality food, this is no longer the one to go for. I hope they sort it out and get back on track, but until they do I would avoid at all costs to avoid disappointment and wasting your money. Also £6.90 for crispy seaweed… come on!

To say this place has gone massively downhill is an understatement. This place has clearly got new owners or something who really have not got a single clue. It says authentic Chinese cuisine on the door but it is full of Indians and Africans and so is not giving you the full authentic Chinese experience as stated. I would not recommend this place to anyone, even the chips were bad! The only thing that was any good was the egg fried rice. I am not even sure how you can get a bag of prawn crackers so wrong that they taste really stale, they probably were that’s why! There are plenty of Chinese restaurants to choose from in Banbury and so please don’t go wasting your hard earned money on this one. Wasted my money and wasted my occasional treat. I shall not be returning, what a dire experience.

We have never had a worse Chinese in our lives. Ordered via just eat and the food went in the bin. Noodles were burnt, chicken was grainy and salt and pepper chips were yesterday's left overs battered and fried. There was no potatoe left inside. No flavour to anything. Cheap meat that gave us both bad bellies. Absolutely disgusting and a total waste of £30. I would of been more satisfied easting dog food.

Came here yesterday as after a long day was getting late and just wanted something quick to eat. I've tried a few other Chinese restaurants in Banbury and this has to be the best one I've had personally. The lady behind the counter was so lovely and friendly. I would have no hesitations in going back again and was also reasonably priced what's not to love.

Very bad attitude and cardboard boxes on the floor I’d question the hygiene too maybe she needs a visit from health and safety I saw raw chicken in a box on the floor a bowl of used washing water being used a 2nd time being pored over the woks and the oven the lady is so rude to people I’ll never go there till it’s been checked by health and safety

In the past, I used to order at least once a week. The food is very good but £20 minimum order for collection is too much for a single person.

After selecting this restaurant thro Deliveroo following our usual restaurant closed, I have to say, I will most definitely be ordering from this restaurant again. Food was delivered super quick . Ingredients looked and tasted fresh. Really great flavours. Whilst a little more expensive than others, its definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Very happy with our meal. Highly recommend

Truly the worst "thai" food I've ever tried to eat. Large chunks of pineapple, gloopy sweet sauce, and nothing even close to anything resembling food from Thailand. Awful beyond words.

I just took delivery of one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Mass produced, prepackaged take away meals. The food was quite terrible and we’ve had to throw 85% of it away - For the price I was hoping it would be good but the quality was no where near to the price tag. Disappointed!

Waited 2 hours for food, rang to chase up the delivery to be given attitude by the person on the other end of the phone, who said they only received the order 25 minutes ago, and ‘would we like them to sort our order or would we prefer to stay on the phone’. Disgusting service, still no idea when food will turn up. First time using, and absolutely last time!

I have never ordered from Just Wok before but heard good things about. I have just received my order by a rude man who knocked on my lounge window rather than ring my doorbell. Upon opening my door I was bombarded by accusations that the restaurant has been trying to call me for half an hour and that’s why the food is late! To top it off he made some comment as he walked away…..ironically the food was delivered at the precise time that the restaurant said it would be delivered……I haven’t even tasted the food yet but I shall not be using Just Wok again regardless…..I hope you realise ‘Just Wok’ that service is just as important as the food. The people who deliver the food are representation of your restaurant……and as a customer I am left disappointed and hurt over a simple thing as ordering myself a takeaway

We love Just Wok. Great food and offer a large variety on the menu. We have tried quite a few dishes on many occasions, and never disappointed. The lady who runs Just Wok is always friendly and helpful. Sometimes the waiting times have been slightly long, but she always lets us know, and it just shows how good it is (advise to get there earlier on Friday & Saturday nights). Thank you

If your expecting chilli in your chilli ,salt and pepper chicken then your be disappointed. Chilli powder is used and it tastes like chicken balls with garlic. Offered a credit note and told if they used chilli then they would get complaints of to hot !. Sooo why order chilli then ?. Think I will stick to pawpaw.

I got to this restaurant every week and it's AMAZING! The food is lovely and high quality meat and veg. The owner really cares about the food and customer service.

It's our first time ordering from here but had heard some good reviews so thought we would try it, everything had the same dodgy after taste of old oil, the crispy chicken in honey tasted burnt and was covered in something that was more like soy sauce rather than honey, the rice was brown, dry and stale like and our vegetable chow main had old mushrooms in that were cold and chewy, and the satay sauce taste soapy, very disappointed, waste of time and money

Disgusting! Very very greasy. Food was bland and was not fresh. It was cooked before hand and then reheated and re-fried. Had a little bit of the food but had to throw it away, made me and my partner feel sick!

Restaurant quality food - amazing. Parking right outside and amazing service. The food is delicious and tons of premium meat and veg in large portion sizes. I can't fault this place it's the best around.

Lovely ladies, friendy faces alwYs smiling and always nice! Never had a issue the food is great and a good price too! Also parking is free and you can park directly outside there shop to collect food. Even contactless payment through the window, because of lockdown which is clever!

Just wok never disappoints! Ordered a takeaway for me and my family on New Year’s Eve, obviously because of lockdown everyone was ordering takeaway so it was very busy! Had to wait 20 minutes but I didn’t mind at all because the food is always beautiful and always receive great service! Sometimes we have to be patient and wait and there’s nothing wrong with that! Hats off to the chef for making our New Years great with her delicious food!

She’s absolutely amazing...makes time to welcome everyone and service with a smile .Highly recommend .

Wouldn't order from here food took almost 2 hours to get to us no one answers the phone, although they have added two numbers available on their website but no one to help you when you call. Would not recommend if you want your food to be with you quickly.

Ordered a delicious meal tonight, everything fresh and cooked to perfection as always. A prompt and friendly service was provided and I was reassured by the Covid measures that were in place and of course the 5 star hygiene rating. Thanks very much, I'll be certain to call again.

Haven’t had a takeaway since the start of lockdown so decided to get one from here. Have eaten here numerous times and the owners are absolutely lovely. Always so polite and helpful. However when I rang to place my order I was greeted over the phone by a very blunt/ unenthusiastic young English lady. She was so unhelpful over the phone, just kept rudely saying “yep”. I even had to tell her that was all I wanted because she didn’t even ask if I wanted anything else she just went silent. What kind of customer service is this? Never even said thank you either. Didn’t tell me how much my order was, and after she went silent for 30 seconds I eventually told her that was all I wanted and waited for her to tell me how long it would be before I could collect. She went silent again so I said “how long will that be?” She then said “I’m not sure”???? How do you expect me to know when to come and collect my chinese if you don’t even have a rough estimate of how long it will take?! She then told me she would ask someone else, so I sat and waited for about 3/4 minutes before you eventually came back to the phone ( did not even apologise for making me wait) and rudely said “40 minutes”. She didn’t even ask me for my name until I said “do you need my name?” She then said “oh yes I do”, I’m sorry but if she is a new member of the team then she seriously needs some more training on how to talk to customers over the phone! I was disgusted and even thought about cancelling my order. It was even worse when I came to pick it up, she didn’t even smile or even say hello to me! She just looked at me and waited for me to speak. Appalling customer service. I hope she really does get some more training because she is definitely putting your customers off! I’ve been ordering from you since you first opened and usually order once/twice a month. I really do not think I will be ordering again.

Brilliant, first class food and service.

Ordered tonight with a 30 min wait but when we went to collect it was closer to an hour ( ordered at 5.50 so not last) Chicken balls were not edible, tough and couldn’t bite through, rice old and crunchy and noodles hard in a clump, all looked old. Very disappointed. Avoid

We absolutely love it here, we wouldn’t use any other Chinese! The owner is so friendly and so accommodating. The food is all freshly cooked and tastes delicious, highly recommend the honey chicken balls which is our favourite dish.

We ordered a take away yesterday and it was awful. My son said his rice tasted odd, and when I tried it I spat t out it was so bad. Fried rice should not be completely dry and all it tasted and smelt of was of was plastic. I can only presume it was and old batch that had been re-heated in the container it came in. As for the sweet and sour chicken balls, they looked large and ok from the outside but at least half were too tough to cut through with a knife. When I opened them the chicken was also hard and dry. I won't be using this take away again. Shame as the website and other reviews looked good.

If you want delicious and fresh chinese, this is place to order. Living in the neighbouring town we unfortunately do not qualify for delivery but this place is worth the travel. To our delights they reopened during COVID-19, following strict social distancing guidelines, and is even offering 19% off which is amazing! We always enjoy the bbq ribs in bbq sauce as well as the delicious salt and pepper chicken! Rice and chow meins are always extremely fresh tasting and of high quality! Can you give me your spring roll recipe as it’s my favourite . Thanks for all that you’re doing for the community (and neighbouring ones!) to bring a bit of normality!

These guys are the best takeaway in town. Fresh ingredients, freshly prepared and lite on monosdium glutamate! No seating but great to eat at home. Service is always with a smile too!

Sadly I can only offer 1 star and would opt for no stars after waiting over an hour without any form of apology or even offer of a refund, very poor service and no excuse for it! And it seemed we weren’t the only ones waiting! Won’t be returning!

Meal was lovely First class service first time used just wok. would definitely use them again.noodles were not greasy like some places.sweet sour chicken was lovely most places are more batter than chicken but they were crispy and delicious.one comment like to make ordered Thai green chicken.but had beef instead but even if was slight problem after ate it decided like chicken and beef Thai curry.so will order again.

The shop is 5 star rated, very clean, staff a welcoming and friendly, this was the first time I have used this takeaway, on this occasion I ordered Special Deal A this meal was for 2 people ( Crispy Aromatic Duck, Sliced Beef and Black Bean Sauce, Sweet and Sour Chicken Hong Kong style, Egg Fried Rice, Chips and Vietnamese Prawn Crackers) This set meal was piping hot, Vegetables were chunky and crispy. I also ordered Vietnamese Mixed Vegetable Curry with Boiled Rice, again piping hot, very tasty my Daughter loved it. cant wait for my second visit>

This was a large order (£65) and ordered in advance on the phone. Not quite ready when I arrived but they were incredibly busy. Food was all really good. Generous portions and the massaman curry was really memorable. I am impressed and will be coming back

Been in the area for just over 6 Months. Tried a few Chinese takeaways in Banbury, nothing stood out. This was my first try at Only Wok, what a result, couldn’t really fault the food. Well done you guys.

A blast from the past. Don’t often get Chinese takeaways. My daughter was visiting and I said yes. The food was really good. Crispy chilli beef, great rice and the most amazing spring rolls that reminded me of the 80’s Chinese chip shop, they are certainly on par with those guys. Spot on.

This is my second review of just wok, and I really can't fault this delightful takeaway, the ladies running this are really friendly and their food is so good. I usually pre order as it can become really busy. Would definitely recommend.

wife and me used for fist time had 2 house special chow main very dry meat looked like was deep fried. prawns only 1 in 2 dishes and spring rolls Great if you like soggy filo pastry and only full of bean sprouts menu stats crispy pancake rolls not crispy and no meat or prawns in side great if your a veggie very disappointed don't think we will return

Put an order for Two people at 6:10 on a Saturday to be told delivery will be just after 7:30 when they start delivering. 8pm still no delivery text to say another 40 min!!!

I ordered a selction of dishes yesterday and thought everything we ordered amazing.the crispy chilli beef was the best ive ever eaten,the beef curry had a good flavour to it with a nice heat to it also.sweet and sour chicken hong kong style was top draw too.i was recommended this by a friend and was not disappointed.my son also really enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken balls and rice.cant wait untill the next time we order!!!

We popped in for a quick takeaway after a long journey and were very disappointed to find that one of the main dishes was missing, when we got home. This ruined the meal for my husband as all he had was rice and living 15 mins away it was pointless going back. At first I was offered a credit note, then offered a refund for that meal, but I have to go in to get it as they cannot do it over the phone. I should have read all of the bad reviews first as I'm not the only one that has been disappointed with one of the dishes missing. I will not be back.

Been using this chinese since it opened and the food is delicious, always hot and fresh. Our favourites are crispy chilli beef and sweet sour Hong Kong style, the batter is always so light and crisp. Also love the chicken satay,the sauce is amazing!

Decided to try a takeaway from here for the first time based on the reviews. Still can't decide for sure. Good size portions, fresh tasting but the black bean sauce dish was a little bland perhaps. One dish was forgotten & as I could only get through to an answer machine didn't get round to complaining. On reflection will be unlikely to use them again.

I moved recently so I've decide to try Just Wok ,hoping it will be my new local Chinese take away so i don't have to go to town every time I fancy Chinese.Food was poor and greasy.My order get mixed up and instead thick noodles i've got thin noodles which I don't like.Very long waiting time for your food .Card payment accepted on payments above £15 which I didn't know about as in my other Chinese take away i always pay by card even if i just order noodles for less than £6 . Food is expensive Shame...

Not much else to say. Great food. Pleasant people, fast service takeaway. Don’t go anywhere else in Banbury. Really. Don’t waste your time, just head here.

Tried this place and really wanted it to be good, we were not surprised,, poor food and will not be using again. It’s a shame , we hoped that it would be our new local.

We have used Just wok a few times since it opened. Food wise I would say it’s the nicest Chinese In Banbury. The food tastes fresh and always piping hot. The problem we have is, a few times we’ve turned up and it’s been closed when meant to be open, the wait for food is always ages. We normally order 2 dishes with rice and can sometimes wait 45 mins- 1 hour. Plus the staff serving don’t seem very experienced, very polite and friendly but a few times I’ve noticed them serving a customer and answering the phone in the middle of taking an order. As I said the food is just fantastic but I think the service and timings could do with looking into.

Just finished a meal from here where we were ordered 4 items and believed this would be about 30 minutes, after the person advised other customers of this time. We were not told a time directly but amused 30 minutes would suffice. After 60 minutes we eventually got out food without an apology. The girl seemed very young and inexperienced and had a sign at the till point to advice is training. We can appreciate this but believe she needed to be more trained, especially when we were told you are unable to do contactless payments when it stipulated on the wall and the card reader you could do this. She also stopped taking my payment which was going through due to only using 1 telephone line and a call disconnected.

We tried this gem of a takeaway a few months ago and absolutely love it! They can spice things up a little bit more if you request it and there is plenty of choice whether you fancy Chinese, thai etc
