Jura Hotel Restaurant in Argyll & Bute

We came to Jura Isle to take a self driving tour of the isle with a visit to Corran Sands. Our family migrated from Jura Isle to the United States leaving from Corran Sands. Beautiful beach for finding little shells, wandering in the water and just sitting and pondering.

Wir haben als Familie Urlaub auf Jura verbracht. Sind in diesem Zuge im Jura Pub eingekehrt. Man kann nicht bar bezahlen, nur mit Karte. Bier wird bei Betrieb ab 25% Auslastung nur noch in Plastik Bechern ausgeschenkt. Da wir aus 2019 (da konnte man noch Bar zahlen) das Essen als sehr gut in Erinnerung hatten, wollten wir für unsren Aufenthalt an 2 Abenden einen Tisch reservieren. Es wurde daraufhin die Auskunft gegeben, dass für Nicht-Hotelgäste keine Tische reserviert werden und die Tische gem. "First come first serve" vergeben werden. Soweit so gut. 2 Tage später kehrten wir in den fast leeren Pub zurück, um dort wie geplant zu essen. Plötzlich gab es kein Essen für Nicht-Hotelgäste. Wir mussten daraufhin improvisieren, um für 6 Erwachsene und 1 Kleinkind auf der Insel noch etwas zu essen zu bekommen. Absolut schlechtester Pub Schottlands, den ich kenne.

Sign saying residents only, told the pub doesn’t open until 3. As the only pub on Jura you’d think they would open for lunch. Opening hours shown above are incorrect, it doesn’t open at 11.00.

Nice food menu and pleasant atmosphere if slightly whacky in terms of decor. We just had a coupleof starters as we were tight for time.

They said: "Our menu is largely seasonal and dependent on the elements, with Wild Jura venison, freshly caught lobster and langoustines, organic Jura vegetables and foraged fruit all featuring as seasons and conditions allow." We thought: that sounds amazing. Expectations were high. What happened: pleasant and attentive staff and attractive dining room but such a disappointing meal. Lacked venison, lobster, langoustines Jura veg and foraged fruit. My crab fishcakes were tasteless and the filling was crab puree with no texture. My partner's stuffed pasta tasted identical to the Co-op's best effort. We asked if tomorrow's menu might have venison or fresh fish..."No". Oh dear!

We stayed in Jura recently and regularly sampled the delights of this great bar/restaurant. Very friendly caring people, great food and nice wee selection of whisky’s 🥃 Dog friendly too and incredible views, thoroughly recommend 🙏🏼

We have visited jura for many years and always called up to the jura pub for a pint or 2! Boarded up Windows and shabby surroundings are what you are met with . Sadly we didn't get to visit inside, even though it says on their website lunch is served at 12 till 2 , it sadly isn't, we were met with a very unwelcoming attitude, told it isn't open till 4 , no offer of any refreshments. So we left thirsty and hungry and headed off to gigha hotel where we had some amazing food and drinks , can highly recommend!

We are six Canadian rugby mates who went on a three-week whisky tour of Scotland. En route, one of us hit a milestone age, and we happened to be on the Isle of Jura on that day. We contacted them and they could not have been more accommodating. The food was excellent, the beer was just-fine, and they took the time to make a sticky toffee pudding birthday cake, as that happens to be his favorite dessert. Can't thank the staff at the Jura Hotel enough - we had a great night there thanks to you.

Good choice of real ales. Finlaggan and Isle of Jura ales are very pleasant. I believe they are brewed at Spean Bridge.

Total disregarding Covid rules. None of the staff are wearing face coverings despite legal requirements. I would not normally be too bothered but there is an outbreak in Craighouse just now and I heard one staff member with a continuous cough today wandering all over the hotel with no consideration towards guests.

Fantastic lunch across from the distillery at the Jura Pub. The burgers, chips and oysters were good. We would return and stay in the hotel during the week. The distillery is closed on the weekends due to Covid restrictions.

We stopped for a drink a couple of times during a day trip to Jura. Being blessed with a hot sunny day it was absolutely stunning to sit outside and look out over the water with a refreshing beverage Enjoyed sampling some Islay Ales from across the water for a distinctly local experience. I didn't have any on this occasion but as you would expect there is an excellent selection of Jura whisky available It will hopefully soon be a thing of the past but covid procedures were very well organised - order to the table outside via app, hand sanitiser widely available and clearly marked one way system indoors

We holidayed on Jura for about 10 days and visited the pub a number of times for lunch and dinner sampling items from the specials and the main menu. The specials often were locally caught fish and seafood, the scallops were particularly good, they were huge and so delicious. Kids meals were decent portions and kept the little ones happy. The food is excellent, I’d say more of a gastropub than pub, and the staff are friendly and efficient - however staff shortages mean that you must book in advance to avoid disappointment and pre-order if possible during these times. But topping off the experience are the exceptional views of the Paps and Small Isles Bay right from your table.

Lovely beer garden and ideally located next to the distillery. Must book in advance for lunch as they get very busy. Appreciated the local advice to visit the rum distillery.

Visited on Tuesday 17th Aug, complained burger was cold and tasted funny after eating less than half of it. Got a meek apology and was still charged full price, no offer of a replacement, discount or a complimentary soft drink. Girlfriends meal was was fine....

We had a drink in the garden overlooking the harbour and were lucky enough to be able to get a table booking (5.45 and 7.30) at the earlier slot. Salmon starter and pizza main were both lovely and plentiful. Shame the campsite isn't open in...

Restaurant was only place open on the island so not a huge choice to sit in. Menu choice is very limited. Mainly burgers and fish fingers. Chips were good and burgers were very meaty. Menu could have been better with more choice of light snacks.

The food here is fantastic. The local scallops were large and perfectly cooked. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious!

We are here three times during our recent stay on Jura. It was truly excellent, serving the best scallops, lobster and venison I’ve ever had. The ingredients were locally sourced, incredibly fresh and deliciously cooked. Would thoroughly recommend.

This pub is in the heart of Craighouse, adjacent to the distillery. There is a modest beer garden with lovely views. The bar area quite austere and functional. Service was friendly and efficient. We popped in for lunch. There were no particularly light dishes available...

My wife and I visited the hotel bar with our yellow Labrador last week for lunch. The vegetarian food was excellent and the service friendly and professional. Our dog was welcome and staff made a fuss of him giving him treats and water.It was good to know that our dog was still welcome in the bar. My wife and I used to live on Islay and often would visit Jura.We have had previous dogs into the bar. I mention this as we were turned away from the hotel in Port Charlotte last week because of our dog.We will certainly be returning to the Jura Hotel when we visit Islay and Jura again next year.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and had our meals in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and well informed about the food which was of the highest standard, the portions were good and tasty. This was the best restaurant we visited on our holiday. I can’t thank all the staff enough for the great food and excellent service.

After struggling with reservations for food the previous days we were pleasantly surprised that we can eat at this restaurant with flexible hours. Fantastic menu, very good service and beautiful view from the table. I had the fish curry, mango chutney and a papadum from the special menu. A must if you go, there simply delicious. Excellent food at the restaurant or the bar. Try the local Lussa gin.

This is a really pleasant hotel with incredible views looking across the harbour and pier. We had dinner here tonight in the residents dining room. A good choice of menu, fair prices and good variety. I had the chicken tikka masala curry with a pappadum, mango chutney and rice. My meal was delicious, flavourful and nicely presented. My husband had fish and chips. Recommend.

We stopped in for lunch after doing the Jura distillery tour and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the food at the Jura Hotel Restaurant. The fish cakes were delicious and the mac & cheese was sumptuous and flavourful. The fish & chips were wonderful too!

We had the most fabulous lunch here on our first ever visit to Jura and it won’t be our last. Service was quick and we had the most fantastic fish and chips ever.

I was impressed with the food and the service. beautifully cooked and presented. Normally I don't eat steak, only if it is reputed to be good...it was excellent.

We booked and requested to have some local deer for dining. They immediately confirm the meat will be ready for our visit. They knew how to perfectly cook the venison and we was even able to request extra portions in situ.

Jura is a lovely place to visit and this being the only hotel and bar means that inevitably you will end up visiting for either accommodation or food. It's a great place to have a few drinks or have dinner. When I was there, some local folk where having a birthday party and I think the whole island turned up, it was a good atmosphere.

Had two wonderful meals here. Using local ingredients (lobster, hand dived scallops, venison, crab, whisky) in skilled, imaginative ways. Ate way too much. All in bar where our dog allowed to be with us, just the same food as in the restaurant.

Went there on a Sunday with friends. The place is nice with a view of the port. Greeted by the owners. Great food as we had lunch there. Our waiter was welcoming (from Greece). A place to visit when on Jura.

Lovely warm friendly welcome, awesome food. Good standard of rooms and cleanliness. Great music in the bar, amazing staff, very helpful. Very impressed all round.

We enjoyed a relaxed lunch in a wonderful spot overlooking the bay, on a lovely sunny day. Service was good and although we didn't have much to eat the food was very good. Coffee also excellent.

Spent a few days wild camping on Jura and used the hotel campers shower block, excellent facilities. On my last visit decided to have a meal, quaint hotel neat and tidy with a good selection of classic meals. A good choice for a stop over to eat.

Staying on Jura for the week, I had booked dinner for my wife's birthday before we arrived as I knew it was going to be a busy week. The meal was excellent and could not be faulted. We decided to book another evening meal for later in the week and pleased to say it was just as good.

The Jura Hotel restaurant is the only show in town on Jura but standards are high. I stayed four nights and found the food consistently good, all home-made where possible. Tip to visitors: on the third night you get a free Jura Distillery Scotch, so well worth the trouble. Note that when I stayed, real ale from Islay Brewery was usually available.

Had just visited the the distillery which was very close and close to the jetty where we arrived but apart from a very small craft shop of mixed quality there is not much to see except wildlife if the weather is good

Lovely hotel on beautiful Jura - a lunch destination, soda bread open sandwich with avocado, Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon and a poached egg - served with homemade spicy tomato and red lentil soup - delicious and great value. The views are spectacular and service with a smile, you won't be disappointed!

Went to Jura for the day, visited the Distillery and then had lunch at this lovely hotel.

Beautiful situation for the hotel with stunning views overlooking Craighouse Bay. The room was very comfortable, even though we (Room 7) had our own (large) bathroom across the corridor. Other rooms had en suite. The food was great, and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Camping facilities on the field opposite with bike lock-up space, if required.

Called herewhilst steaming around the islands. Just a super location with excekllent service from teh friendly bar staff. Definietely on the visit again list. Just one suggestion for visitors - do bring anti midge cream as the horseflies on Jura can be formidable. The Island itself however is absolutely beautiful in a World class sort of way - if you haven't been then do make plans to !

Had lunch outside with a beautiful view. I had the burger (good) and a Guiness for lunch, service was great, friendly and accommodating! Best restaurant in town - and the only one too! (as far as I know) It really IS good! A must stop!

We had our lunch here while visiting the Isle of Jura. Food quality was very very good, selection of scotch was spoiling and the bartender had excellent knowledge of their characteristics too! He was generally a welcoming person provided us with lots of knowledge about the island which was great for us as tourists! All in all a very pleasant experience.

We visited Jura mainly for the excellent Whisky, on a cycle tour of the inner hebrides we rode from the ferry to the Jura Hotel where we camped before visiting the distillery the next day. Camping was only a fiver and there are lovely shower,...

We visited Jura for the day and had lunch at the Jura Hotel. We were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Recommendations would be the venison burger, the scallop and black pudding special and the crab cakes. The menu included lots of different local specialities and the serving sizes were very generous. Highly recommend.

Stayed on Jura for a week in March and was in here most lunch times. The food is great at good prices and staff and locals are all friendly and welcoming. Also nice to see a place allow dogs inside.

This is really a pub rather than a restaurant but it is completely adequate with a good choice of fairly basic food.

Limited supply & resources but yet excellent results. Well worth the money... We will come back here just for the food, never mind all the other things to look forward to!

The Jura Hotel restaurant is set on the idyllic bay of Craighouse. You can enjoy the view of the distillery on one side and that of the bay on the other, when having your meal at the restaurant. The guy behind the counter was extremely kind and helpful. The room is wide, bright, thanks to the extended glass window overlooking the bay. The menu was poor on fish dishes, which was what I was looking for. Anyway a pleasant place to go.

Per cena ci siamo avvalsi del suo ristorante ma abbiamo preferito utilizzare lo spazio del pub, anziché le due sale riservate messe a disposizione dall'hotel per gli ospiti. Ottime birre, servizio cortese e veloce, buone offerte per pranzo di zuppa e piatti veloci. Abbiamo cenato qui entrambe le sere trovando la cucina adatta a tutte le esigenze e piacevole l'ambiente.

Well cooked meals but not inspiring. Specials often more expensive than the basic menu. Choose locally sourced items - shellfish and venison - for best taste. Service a bit slow if busy. Staff are very pleasant.

Given that the Jura Hotel is the only place you can eat out in the evening, it would be easy for them to take things easy and not make any effort. In fact the approach seems to be quite the opposite, with an interesting menu, lots of little touches that make a difference and a very welcoming atmosphere. We ate here twice, whist staying in a cottage on the island, and really enjoyed two very tasty meals. The pigs cheeks were a big hit, as was the venison steak. All well cooked and served with generous accompaniments. The onion rings are also worth a go!You can be sure of a really good meal at the Jura Hotel - you can't book in the bar, be aware, but we ate early and plenty of room before 7pm.

We were staying at the hotel so took the opportunity to eat in the beautifully appointed residents dining room with great harbour views. The food was beautifully presented, extremely flavoursome and very generous portions. The scallop, black pudding and apple starter was the stand out dish although the haddock & chips was equally as yummy. Great food and great service.

We called in for lunch here after visiting the adjacent distillery and then taking a drive up the island as far as the end of the road at Ardlussa. It was around 1pm on a Saturday and the bar was virtually full. Not a big place by any means, there are about a dozen tables. I didn't have much hope of being served very quickly as everything felt rather hectic.However, I managed to get up to the bar without too much difficulty and ordered our food. No more than ten minutes later, the food arrived. Impressive when they were clearly pretty much at capacity. What was even more impressive was that the food was superb. The ham salad sandwich was a thick, chunky affair, crammed with hand-cut ham and mayonnaise, the "fish finger butty" was actually two freshly fried breaded goujons of the whitest haddock I think I've ever seen, topped with lemon mayonnaise and slapped inside a huge brioche bun, and the onion rings were piping hot, freshly deep-fried and quite obviously home-made.If the rest of the menu us as good as the food we had (and I see no reason why it shouldn't be) then this is a great place to get good, honest, well-cooked food in *very* generous portions.Thanks for lunch!!

Being a huge fan of Jura whisky and holding a desire to visit the island for many years, I recently fulfilled that ambition. Arriving on the Tayvallich ferry (an adventure itself) stopping only for tea and buns in the excellent Antlers Café we purchased an OS map and set off into the interior! We got as far as Kells before the clouds descended and the rain got heaver. The decision was made to retreat to the pub! Here we dined on Burger and chips in extreme comfort followed by a number of 10year old drams. A visit to the very pleasant and friendly staff in the distillery shop and the purchase of suitable souvenir bottle completed a great day out.

Was on Jura with the good lady wild camping and we had discovered that for a small deposit you could use the adjacent shower facilities as often as you wished during our visit. There is also washing machine and dryer machines. We had a nice lunch of sweet potato and coconut soup (fab!) and a cheeseburger. Most excellent !Would recommend this excellent establishment i.e. You are visiting this gem of an Isle.

Really wasn't expecting much from one of the only restaurants on Jura. Thought it would be just passable. Never expected to enjoy a delicious falafel plate and soup. Soup portion larger than expected, so you might be good with just soup for lunch if you're not too hungry. Also had excellent espresso in small cups with nice crema--also a delightful surprise!

Chambre jolie et douillette (sans TV : la vue de la fenêtre valait mieux que ça ! et il y a une salle télé en bas). Repas roboratif et raffiné. Solide petit déjeuner. Excellent accueil.

My wife and I stayed for two days on the 12th & 13th July. This is a delightful small hotel with a good restaurant, our room was wonderful with the best view of any place we stayed on our holiday visiting various islands and places in Scotland. All the staff were very friendly, did a great job and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived.We had all our food at the hotel restaurant as it is virtually the only place to eat but having said that it was very good and the prices were reasonable. The wonderful view from the restaurant makes it a very special place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Kreative, ausgezeichnete schottische Küche. Unbedingt zu empfehlen Shellfish, Salmon, Beef. Sehr gepflegte Getränke.

We were staying in the hotel so had our evening meal here. We were quickly seated and orders taken. I ordered the scampi and my hubby ordered fish and chips which we both enjoyed. We had a lovely white wine that was suited to fish too. For dessert we both had specials my hubby had Jura strawberry frangipane tart and I had Jura whisky chocolate fondant and you could really taste the whisky in the chocolate. We really enjoyed our meal and would recommend. There was plenty of choice and the prices reasonable.

Die Anreise (10 Minuten Auto-Fähre und dan 15 km single track road) lohnen sich. Die Aussicht ist toll, der Service freundlich und die Gerichte frisch zubereitet.
