First visit to the Jug and Glass under new ownership and wow what a difference. The pub still has its old charm inside, traditional bar, log fires with a facelift outside. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and attentive and it was lovely to see Jake the owner helping out too. We all enjoyed a proper traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings, extra gravy and stuffing. We couldn’t fault any of it. All freshly cooked and served. Family and dog friendly with a good mix of locals and new customers. We will definitely visit again.

Arrived around 4pm with a good atmosphere in this hostelry. Having seen the food being served decided to ask at the Bar for a table and being told 6 pm onwards would be difficult( a good sign) so plumped for 5-30 and how glad we were we had. Service was brilliant and we enjoyed our Lasagne and Proper Steak n ale pie. Learned that the place had been took on by a new proprietor and the people of Lea and surroundings need to get behind this business as we found our experience excellent. Good Luck to you all.

Booked a table over a week ago to have a meal with friends. It took 20 minutes to be served & shown to our table. The table can only be described as a thin school bench, half the width of a normal dining table and not large enough for 4 adults. A burger menu was produced, which we weren’t interested in so we then had to request their usual menu. We also asked if we could be moved as we explored to the waitress, it would be very difficult for us all to eat together in such a small space. The waitress then told us we don’t have to eat at the pub and can leave if we want! We did exactly that, as the shocking manner of the waitress was the icing on the cake after the table shock. Appreciate, the pub were catering mainly for people watching the football, but we were local paying customers who felt our treatment was awful. We will not be visiting again, or recommending the pub to friends or family in the area.

A lovely stay at the Jug and Glass. Rooms were compact but clean and had everything you needed. Breakfast was tasty with cereals to start and a varied menu including porridge, smoked salmon and scrambled egg and a full English. We ate here on both nights and food was fresh and well cooked. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Lea is a lovely, quiet village and a good base. Lea gardens is worth a visit especially when the rhododendrons are flowering.

My partner & I popped in here on our way home from the gym after a hefty session so we were famished. Never been here before I don't usually pass it but was re-routed due to a road closure. We didn't book but luckily they were able to accommodate us. Staff were very friendly & the pub is nice & cosy with 2 or 3 different rooms decorated quite aptly for it's period. Carpet, beams, fires etc. We were sat in the most modern room in the pub which was also the lightest, airiest. They didn't have a poultry option, which would be my usual choice being a flexitarian & rarely eating beef or pork. I chose pork purely because my last experience or a roast beef Sunday lunch at the Greyhound in Cromford was not the best. It was a good choice (as was the beef it turned out, which is what my partner ordered) mashed potato & roast potatoes, something I'm a fan of, Yorkshire pudding was optional addition to the pork choice & was lovely. Gravy was good, I prefer mine thicker but personal preference, it was tasty, which is key! plenty of traditional veg . Good ales on draught! Very good & I would definitely return.

We ended up staying here by accident and what a great find! Beautiful surroundings, really friendly landlord/landlady and a comfortable stay. We had dinner (braised beef and paprika chicken), simple but wholesome home cooked food and delicious (breakfast was perfect too). The cheese platter was not on the menu but the chef put something delicious together for us. It is obvious that great care is taken with regards every aspect, both food, cleanliness, attentiveness (from all staff) etc. We are definitely coming back and would highly recommend this pub. There also looks to be quite a few walks in the immediate vicinity. The only thing missing was a bedside lamp!

We happened to visit this pub for a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago, and the food looked incredible, so we decided to come back and give it a try. Wow, this did not disappoint! Three of us had the steak pie, and one had the beef short rib. The meat in both was super tender and full of taste. The portion size is perfect. Anyone looking for beautiful hearty food, this is the place to go! Wish I had taken a picture of the food but we just couldn’t wait to tuck in!

We came for a family meal here for my Grandad’s birthday, when stopping just up the road for the weekend. We had a large booking, so sometimes meals and timings etc can be tricky…this was not the case- everything was amazing! They seated us all in our own little room at the side of the bar with a small serving bar hatch. The owners/staff were lovely and made us feel really welcome! There was a great selection of drinks that were fairly priced. We ordered food and majority of us had steak pie, chips and peas. This was the best pie we have ever had! The meat was fresh and locally sourced, chips were cooked to perfection and even the peas were the best yet (I don’t know why or how, but they were). If we are ever in the area again then we will defiantly be back for sure!!

Definitely one to avoid. Stopped for a drink on way home and looked ok from outside, inside however is a different matter. The atmosphere is the most unwelcoming I have ever experienced as you get stared at as though you are intruding on a private function. All the tables have a reserved sign on so there is no where to sit unless I suspect if you are a local regular customer and the staff could be possibly more accommodating. Both the landlord and landlady(I presume) are so dismissive and curt and seem to have no understanding of the concept of hospitality.

This was a large family get-together, we all had a different meal.Mine was butterfly chicken with chips and it was awful. I suspect the tiny piece of very dry chicken had been microwaved, and most of the sad-looking chips were uneatable due to black spots on them. Those who had the curry said it was watery and a bit tasteless.Another in our party left almost the entire meal, sadly, I didn't take note of what meal she had.The staff were friendly and prompt considering that it was quite busy and very cramped. This was our second visit and sadly, it will be our last....I would recommend the Jug & Glass for drinks, especially in good weather, when you can sit outside in very pretty surroundings. Lovely spot and the wine was nice but the food often disappoints particularly at the price. Keep giving them the benefit of the doubt as they are our local but keep getting let down. Ordered a halloumi and falafel salad. The salad was drowned in olive oil, the croutons were cooked in get that was too cold and hence we very greasy, I had a slice of cucumber that was that slimy bit at the end of and old cucumber, the pepper was dehydrated and shrivelled and the halloumi was just cut into two huge hunks (not slices) and barely grilled. The kids meals were ok but at 6.95 for two tiny dishes and a bit of mash and beans you'd hope so. The fish and chips were ok but difficult to get wrong.

I was part of a group of five people, friends and family who visited this pub on Saturday night. We'd never been before and only intended to stop for one or two drinks to sample the atmosphere of a nice, quiet country pub.We we're served by a young lad and, although he didn't do anything wrong as such, he certainly could have been a little more welcoming. We sat down and began talking between us. I don't feel we were at all loud or boisterous and we were conscious that there were two couples sat nearby who were also trying to enjoy a quiet chat. However, almost as soon as we had sat down an older man appeared (the landlord, possibly) and he stood facing us, arms folded, looking us up and down and scowling. For the majority of our time there he kept a close, suspicious eye on us.A little later two more people arrived, presumably staff members and, as they whispered to each they regularly turned and stared in our direction. To be fair, they didn't appear to make any efforts to be friendly towards any of the other customers either, with the exception of a Jack Russel who got a warm welcome.I have never felt so unwelcome in a pub.We finished our drinks and got out of there and neither of us have any plans to return which, I'm guessing will suit the staff just fine. It would be interesting to know what exactly we had done wrong, however. Was it purely because we were not from that village?

I live in Hong Kong but return to Derbyshire to see family two or three times a year. A visit (or more than one) to the Jug and Glass is always on the list of things to do when I'm back. Every visit I have always had a warm welcome and good food at reasonable prices. My eight-year-old son loves the place and is always remembered by the landlord despite only coming back once a year. This is a gem of a traditional country inn that deserves all the custom it can get.

We live not far from the jug and glass and often visit at weekend for a leisurely pint. We had a German visitor staying with us and decided to go to jug and glass for an evening meal on a Saturday night. Although they were busy and we had not booked we quickly had a table, drinks and a menu in front of us. We decided on our food which was delivered promptly and well presented. Very enjoyable evening at a very reasonable price. Thank-you jug and glass.

Nice greeting and friendly service.Lunch was ok and reasonably enjoyable.Lamb Rogan Josh and Fish pie both nice but a little dearer than some pubs with nothing extra for the increased price. There was no pie available so on leaving I said that I would like to return and try the 'Homemade' pie on the board only to be informed that none were available because they had not been delivered !!!!!Chef not capable?

we booked in advance for an evening meal for 26, Landlord gave us a private room. The food was excellent, service cannot be faulted. They coped exceedingly well with our large group, all food tasty, well presented.Choice of local hand pulled ales. The pub was a short walk uphill from Pear tree farm where we were staying, just far enough to work up a thirst /appetite.If you are in the area this pub is a must if you like a real olde English pub, with great staff

I have never ever complained before but I've just visited this pub on our way home, it's just been taken over by a very rude woman ,I went in to ask if they served food which the manager told me she did, I walked in with my partner and 14 month of daughter, we ordered drinks and food, paid immediately, I then asked for a high chair to which she said they didn't have any, we were the only customers in the pub the last couple just left on our way in, our food came, our little girl was walking around with a chip in her hand, the manager came over and asked us very rudely to put our daughter on a chair as she didn't want dirty fingers all over her new furniture, she said I should of asked if I could bring a child into the pub when I asked if they served food, but when I pointed out she had children's menus on the bar so why would I have asked that question, I said to her this is the only pub I've been into where they don't have high chairs, she told me If it was a problem to bring my own, and she didn't have to supply high chairs if she didnt want to,who may I ask puts a high chair in the car ?? Also how can I put a 14 month on a pub chair with no harness, we left our half eaten food and left,on the way out I said to the new manager I was going to write a letter to the local paper because she was that rude and if it was a problem to have children in the pub she should remove the children's menus from the bar as clearly she didn't want any her nice new clean pub, to which she replied " do you think I'm bothered" well you should be, your not going to last very long running a pub with that kind of attitude, the food was average not home cooked, the beef on the Sunday dinner was wafer thin the pre- packed version, chips and roast potates were the same, shame it's a nice pub in a nice spot just got a foul-mouthed new manager, and they need ASAP a " NO CHILDREN" sign on the front door

A beautiful old country pub/restaurant that allows dogs in the bar area. Good selection of beers and a good range of choices on the menu. Not over priced.

Stopped here for lunch whilst on a walk. It was a Friday lunchtime and sadly the place was very quiet but times are hard in the pub world. Friendly barman/ landlord and a good choice of food from full meals to light bites. My chilli was delicious. This place is how pubs should be - traditionally decorated, welcoming and serving good food.I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again if I'm in the area.

I went to the Jug and Glass with some old (average age about 75) friends on a Saturday in June. There were about 18 of us. We had pre-booked and placed our orders in advance - only fair to do this with such a large party. The food choice was good and everyone was very pleased with the quality of their dish and the size of the portions. I had a Steak Pie and it had marvelous pastry and superb meat.I hope to find the chance to go again - and preferably when not driving as the bar environment and the range of beers was very tempting. The team coped well with the numbers and got the food out to us all very promptly.

We walked here from Manor Farm B&B up the hill. What a delightful experience that was through the sheep fields and woods. We were all tired from traveling and this dinner was one of the best we have had. Great traditional Pub food and a good selection of ciders and beer. The waiter had a wonderful sense of humor and we spent the night eating and drinking. Very good fish and chips, chicken and cheeses. Cozy place. This is the second time we have been here and it is better than before.

Have been here several times recently for an evening meal with friends. This is a lovely, friendly, traditional pub with a lovely, people-focussed atmosphere. If you like a musak-free pub with a burning log fire, you will love The Jug. The beers change, but are all excellent. The food is lovely, though prices seem to be creeping up and the menu hasn't changed for months. But, if you want a meal with friends where the atmosphere is great and the staff are welcoming you'll do well to better The Jug & Glass

One of my frequently visited pubs. Cozy atmosphere with log fire, hearty pub grub like cheese and pickle baguettes, fish and chips, landlord is a lovely man even though we tease him rather a lot ;)

We were stopping at the local Manor Farm B&B and the Jug and Glass was recommended. It is a terrific local pub. The food was good for both veggies and meat eaters and not too expensive. (a new chef seems to have made a difference). There is a good range of beers on offer. The restaurant area was cosy but we prefer to eat in the bar. The locals were really friendly including the owner who joined everyone in the bar. The pub is comfortable like a pair of favourite slippers....terrific evening!

we called in as we were having a recce of the area for our family get together in September. This is a real pub with restaurant attached, has a nice cosy feel with real ales on tap. and a good selection of food on the menu, from sandwiches to full menu.We ordered drinks and food , we both decided on steak pie, choice chips or potatoes, mushy or garden peas. After a short wait meals arrived, real chips and fresh peas and a steak pie, with real pastry and real steak, devoured every bit.Choice of sweets, but as it was supposed to be a lunch time snack, declined. We will return in september

I dined here with my parents on Saturday night, whilst we were staying in Derbyshire last week.Although the place was busy & pretty much fully booked, we were still able to get a table. We were very well looked after by Owen (the man who served us) I enjoyed the Marston's Pedigree bitter (2 pints) the pate starter was great, as was the warm chicken & bacon salad I ordered for main course. All in all, another good place I can recommend to eat at if you're ever in the area.

Pub grub, nice building with nice personel and a good selection of food but it was lacking something to give this that little extra to make it stand out as pub food. Daily special of crab had rocket salad which over powers it and is not for everybody. Chicken mushroom pie was good. But all I over a touch expensive for pub grub.

Warm, welcoming and popular pub. We had the lamb's liver dish from the new menu, which was delicious. Followed by sticky toffee pudding, and a dark chocolate Basque cheesecake. Fantastic value menu for the quality of the food, not to mention the first rate service. Highly recommended.

Don't be fooled by the dog friendly tag on the board at the front. With the minimum of at least water for a dog unfortunately there is no sign of. Coupled with sharp flint on the floor means any dog not comfortable. Call me picky but Bank Holiday would see most of the pumps available. Sadly the opposite applies here. Most pumps have a sad glass covering them indicating "that ones off". Could be really nice with a little thought. Better pubs closer that are actually dog friendly & you stand a chance of actually drinking a beer that you want.

We came for lunch on Saturday for our uncles 80th birthday. We called ahead to see if we could have an accessible table as several members of our party have walking aids. The table we were given was lovely, in a very quiet part. The staff were lovely, patient when we took a while to decide what we all wanted. We weren’t rushed at all throughout the whole meal, 3 courses! Everyone’s food was delicious, clean plates all round! And to end the lovely experience, the staff brought out our cake that we brought with the candles and sang happy birthday. It made his day! Thank you so much, we will be back and highly recommend.
