Very good establishment in the town centre. Although the pub was busy with racegoers from Ladies Day at York Races, our group had excellent reviews fo our meal which was well cooked and fairly priced.

Randomly stopped in for food. We did go early as hadn’t eaten all day (5pm) so it’s wasn’t busy. The staff were friendly and seated us promptly. We were the only people eating at the beginning but the food did take a bit of time to come (not horrendously long) but it was delicious! We had the flat iron steak and the chicken….. I couldn’t recommend either more. It did get busier in the bar area towards the end of our stay and did get a bit noisier. Looks like a popular place for locals to have a drink. There are high tables in the window which are very overlooked if people are standing outside drinking/having a smoke.

Food good. Service was terrible. We had to ask for our order to be taken & following that we had to wave frantically for someone to take drinks orders. Once plates were taken away we were not asked if we wanted deserts & we would have had them. There were plenty of staff, they just all congragated near the bar area. As customers no longer go up to the bar, staff need to remember that & really be on it.Other customers experienced the same. At the end of the night staff did not inform customers that they were closing allowing last orders. When we paid our bill it was wrong & they also put the wrong amount on the card machine.Overall an exhausting unpleasant experience.

Judson's has been a regular for lunch when we visit Pocklington. Last two times rather disappointing though. On the last visit the waiter when asked what wines they had was told "oh the usual" which was not helpful. When a different waiter brought the meal he managed to slide some chips off the plate onto the table and the floor but there was no apology and no replacement chips ... his comment was "not my best effort". So service needs reviewing. As to the menu, there is more emphasis on burgers now than there used to be. As we dont eat meat there is a more limited choice for us. Anyway, there are many other places in Pocklington for us to try next time.

Food arrived I had the risotto which was delicious, My partner had the fish and. Chips which he said was also delicious, we didn’t have room for a pudding, all in all I very pleasant experience. My only gripe would be £9 for a glass of wine, which I feel was over priced, yes I know we pay more for wine out dining, but this is a pub, not a high class restaurant. Apart from that a good meal was had

We called in to Judsons for the very first time today, and we’re immediately impressed. It was a miserable wet day, and as we had our two dogs with us we managed to get near the fire so we could all dry off!The bar is superbly laid out , extremely spacious, also with lots of interesting things to look at!As it was lunchtime we decided on something light, so we went for sandwiches, but they weren’t any old sandwich, they were simply divine! I had the smoked chicken, bacon and brie, my wife had the beef and onion. Both came with a lovely mixed salad and yummy French fries!Who I imagine to be the owners came across to check on us, and make a fuss of our doggies! Everyone who dealt with us were charming and friendly, and I just wish more restaurants and bars would appreciate their customers as well as they do at Judsons.Without a doubt we will return ( no dogs!) and enjoy dinner one evening very soon.

14 of us booked in for evening dinner and we were showed to a private room upstairs which was lovely but a tad cold. We had pre-ordered our choices in advance. One of the party was poorly so couldn’t attend hence I went downstairs to mention it. The rude owner huffed and puffed and said it was already being cooked. I asked for desert menu at the same time and he huffed and puffed (nearly blew his restaurant down!!) and said he was very limited on deserts. We had booked a month in advance and there was no asking if we wanted further drinks until the end of the meal. We asked if we could have a desert with a candle in as it was a special birthday for a young lady. That never arrived. We asked if the meal for the non existing customer could be returned and have a refund but the bill came with the meal price on it. It wasn’t even sniffed at let alone eaten by the non existing customer who was poorly. Shoddy service indeed. Food was lovely and no complaints there but seriously...what turned out to be looking forward to spending time with my friend for her 30th was spoilt by the rude owner. I would not return. Please be aware of this if you book in a large party. Upstairs and forgotten!!

When the food arrived we had to ask the waitress for cutlery, which after over 5 minutes of waiting and our food getting cold, my partner had to go up to the bar and get himself. We had lunch today at Judson's. When we arrived at just after noon, we were the only people there and were seated near the window for a good view of the marketplace. Judsons soon filled though. We were given menus and offered water immediately. There was a good choice on the attractive two menus, one a Christmas fayre. We were all very happy with our choices and the generous portions. Everything was well presented and we would happily return. I cannot remember the name of my dish, but it was chicken strips in a spicy batter, with hand cut chips and delicious salad.

Welcoming and friendly. Food lacked lustre. Fine for week day eating. Salmon starter was confused unsure what side dish was. Pate lacked flavour. Pheasant lots of it but rather tasteless.

Full of happy drinkers but poor food with very strange menu offerings. Too noisy if you are eating in main area but much better upstairs.

After a morning shopping in York, called on spec for Sunday lunch, quite busy but we were welcomed warmly. Varied menu but only one choice for us - roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Three generous slices roast beef with various fresh veg, and stupendous roast potatoes, washed down with a pint of the excellent guzzler beer, all in all a very enjoyable meal with good service and pleasant staff. What more do you want. We will be back.

I have to admit I really enjoy going into Judsons on a Saturday afternoon and enjoying a few drinks. Staff are always friendly. I know people still complain about the sofas being removed and yes, I did like them but life moves on! Really good atmosphere, food has certainly got better lately (although I've never had a bad course) and nice selection of draughts. Not the cheapest in town but the best atmosphere and busiest place.

Called in for a bite to eat before the Shed Seven gig at the Arts Centre.Good selection of beers and food.Didn’t want anything too heavy to eat so opted for the Prawn & Salmon wrap. The wrap was packed full of Prawns & Salmon so much so it was falling out. Also ordered a portion of chips to share with my wife and I have to say they were the best chips I’ve had in a long time. The staff were very friendly and helpful also.Would definitely recommend this place.

In the olden days, many years ago, I and many other Pockites used to populate the Bayernstuble (sic) in our droves, for its perfectly average chicken in a basket, and greasy but deliciously Germanic chips. We sat in the wood paneled booths, on a Sunday afternoon between the hours the pubs were shut. We did this for two reasons: to keep drinking, and to line the stomach in preparation for the evening session. We didn't want to go home to sleep it off, because there was nothing on the t.v., VHS was in its infancy, and quite possibly the family were visiting, so we had to stay away. No offence, mum. Since that establishment closed, it was nothing for a while, until Judsons opened, with a determination to improve the pub fare offer in Pocklington. Not a huge challenge, to be honest. The only serious rival being the Feathers, though that's a shadow of its former self, I'm reliably informed. Since Judsons have been trading, the other pubs have mainly cleaned their acts up (and carpets), so a lunchtime visit should be a memorable occasion? No, not really. The menu offers pretty much the same as any other pub lunch. Fine, as long as it's decent grub. And it is, on the whole. But not as good as all the raving suggests. To the food : Pulled pork in a brioche bun with skinny fries. Ok, pork a little dry, chips underseasoned. Salad uninspiring. Super food salad - a bit bland, too much mayonnaise in the dressing. But full marks for offering a healthy gluten free option. Fish and chips - good sized Fish, fat chips, tartare sauce. Crispy batter, a bit thick, meaning a layer of stodgy between the crispy outer and the fish. Steak sandwich. Ok, Not asked how steak was wanted, fat chips ok. Spicy chicken strips with fries - chicken gougons were large, with a thick batter. Chicken was nicely cooked, but because the batter was so thick, it had a stodgy layer under the crispy outer, which made it very filling, and the 'sriracha' batter should be hot and garlicky, but was neither. More so, it was cooked in the same batter (possibly at the same time) as the fish, so the batter was imparted with a slight fish aftertaste. The salad on the side was fine, but for a strange earthy flavour. I couldn't work out if it was because it wasn't properly washed, or if it had parsley in, but it was lacking a decent dressing. The chicken could have been so much nicer, in a feather light chilli garlic batter, with a lovely buttery sauce to finish it. Service was fine: friendly and efficient, Not too intrusive. Drinks good too. I would go back, but would probably try a salad and ask for oil and vinegar to dress and season it myself. Try Judsons out, its ok, but it's a shame, because the bar in Pocklington has yet to be raised to a decent level. Too much mediocracy and not enough 'must go to' places. Maybe it's Germanic predecessor was onto something!

As far as we were aware Judson’s has always had a good reputation. Nearly 18 months ago we all had burgers and were quite disappointed that everything had been over-salted. Though the service had been good. So being always ready to give the benefit of doubt we have just been again. Went early on Saturday lunchtime and again the service was pretty good but the food was a let down again. The Cajun chicken wrap was plastered with mayonnaise. The garlic bread that was served as part of the kids meal was appalling. A slice of bog standard white bread, with some garlic butter and then cheddar cheese all toasted, cut into triangles and rammed into a tiny pot so that when you try to get a piece it all came out as one congealed lump. The mash and gravy in the kids meal was far too salty. The one saving grace is that the steak sandwich was ok. It was brilliant but it wasn’t bad. Overall very disappointed, again.

Thanks so much to Robin and his team at Judson’s. Our family party was perfect, as was the food they served. A particular mention goes to Tristan who worked so hard to keep us all happily fed and watered! For a party of up to 20 the upstairs room is ideal and you won’t be disappointed by the food the chef can produce. It’s fantastic to have a place like this on our doorstep.

A recent return after reviewing a couple of years ago. Still retains a youngish, cool atmosphere an is the place to 'see and be seen' in town. Food good and service excellent. Menu is a bit limited at present and it is expensive.

On a very wet Saturday afternoon, we called in for some warm drinks. The Bar was almost full and the Staff worked very hard to satisfy the demand. Their customer service attitude could not be faulted. Our cup of coffee (very nice) and pot of tea for one (also good) were served with shortbread figures - all for £3.60, so no complaints on value for money.

Been here before but not previously reviewed. This time just called in for drinks twice over a weekend. Does everything you would expect - decent array off beers, wines and spirits but there' s something missing......the atmosphere, it just does not have have a great feel to it. The staff are OK but not particularly welcoming and maybe this place would benefit from some soft seating - I know it takes up space but even on a Friday night and Saturday afternoon, I never saw this place really busy. In reality the rating should be 3.1/2
