Food took 3 hours, restaurant informed me it was made 35 mins after order placed. So they tried to deliver food that had been sat around for over 2 hours. Massively disappointed !

Portion size is appalling! Prices are high very little portions

La comida siempre es 10/10 y porciones tan generosas además de deliciosas, pero lo que hace que el raj de alegría sea tan maravilloso y por qué seguimos volviendo es el servicio. We come to the joy raj regularly and it always is the best Indian in Bristol, the service is wonderful, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is perfect it’s always busy but you aren’t on top of people so you can talk. For the last five years we have always come here for big celebrations and today came for our anniversary and Shabs as always made our trip, he wished us happy anniversary and went the extra mile to make it special! No other Indian in Bristol compares to the food here.

Went out for a curry night and tried Joy Raj for the first time and was seriously impressed! Great spot in Clifton, top notch service and even better food. Highly recommend and is great value for money.

First time ordering from here. We have The Clove at the top of our road and I wish we’d just ordered from them as usual. There is no Joy from The Joy Raj when they forget your naan bread, they tell you you are too far away for them to deliver it and can you come and collect it “My Love” What a loveless and joyless experience. Arrrrgh NEVER AGAIN!

Excellent food - among the best Indian food I have ever eaten. Staff are friendly, polite and accommodating. The waiter, Shabs, was particularly delightful. It closes late, too. We had Chicken Pakhora, Chicken Tandoori, Pilau Rice, Pappadams and pickles. All were delicious.

Absolutely delicious curry, I had the naga whilst hubby had the Tikka masala, kids had sheek kebab and chicken Tikka mains served with rice and naans. Staff were really friendly, food was exceptional, the cobra on draft was a great addition to the meal too. We will definitely be back next time we are in Bristol as it's too good to miss!

Very rude delivery man. He wouldn't get out of his car to buzz in the flat. After a missed call, I walked outside within 2 mins, and he was very rude. It used to be one of my favourite Indian places in town, but this ruined it for me.

This place is comfortably up there as one of the best curry houses in Bristol. From start to finish all of the food was excellent and a perfect pint of cobra to match. The restaurant itself is lovely and unique being underground. The price is also excellent for the otherwise expensive area of Clifton. A great evening with Shabs and the team.

A fantastic experience, very reasonably priced for an area that can be very expensive, easily one of if not the best chicken balti I’ve ever had, very good portion size with fantastic pint of cobra on draft, Shab and the rest of the staff were top notch, highly recommend 👍🏼

Couldn’t feel much spice in my curry, tasted like plain tomato sauce. The rest of it wasn’t your aromatic Indian as well.

The food was great, the service was spot on - they managed a large group (13) very well. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Honestly, gutted We got so rushed to order food we couldn’t even order drinks then poppadoms then starters then mains… had to all be in one go No wonder it was empty Anyway The poppodoms and chutney tray was nice tbf but the best came first for sure The onion bhajis were so doughy The Sheek kebab was tasteless The prawn puri was so basic and frozen The chicken tikka best part was onions Mains… The naan bread was so doughy and the Keema was so minimal The drinks are bottled no draught The biryani was so dry The chicken jalfrezi was so saucy and the shredded chicken had no flavour The buttered chicken was sooooo buttery and felt more like a watery korma The side of spinach paneer was so watery and the cheese was so chewy Overall: We do a “curry club” every other month and this has been the worst one in 2 years of doing so (and the only bad review so far) Gutted lads

First time I have used Joy Raj. I ordered 2 medium curries & there was very little spice in either defo mild curry so on that basis I wouldn't order again!

I was returning to Bristol after 20 plus years for a week with my wife. Most of the restaurants I used to frequent had closed or were now something different. I remembered eating here so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is in the basement and lacked a little charm but the staff and the food made up for this. Our waiter Shab was very professional and my bespoke meal of fish korai, madras hot was not a problem. The poppadoms were very light and not greasy and there were 5 different chaat dishes rather than the usual 3 or 4. The tarka Dahl was delicious, however my wife’s prawn korai was a slight underwhelming. In hindsight she wished she’d ordered the same as me. Overall we had a lovely meal and ordered a delivery 2 days later. This time we both had the fish korai madras hot which was superb.

We tried this Indian after hearing great reviews… it lived up to its expectations. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was delicious to say the least. Will definitely be returning.

This place was recommended to us on a recent visit to Clifton when we visited Bristol. We were not disappointed! Delicious food from a wide ranging menu, we did have to ask one of the waiters for a suggestion and they were most helpful - the chicken Hunza, a very different but tasty dish!. We will definitely be back!

Good service, great portion sizes, perfect onion bhaji with yummy yoghurt sauce. Great flaviurs all round, with right amount of spice. All good.

On arrival we were warmly greeted and seated straight away. Our drinks order was taken and these arrived quickly, we were also able to order poppadoms and pickles whilst deciding on what to eat. If I was to have one slight issue, and this is a common problem with many restaurants, it would be that the soft drinks range should be just as extensive as the alcohol range etc. and of similar size ranges, not just tiny little bottles. As our group had not met up for some considerable time we did take quite a while before placing our main food order, but this was not a problem for the staff as they were available when we required them but they remained in the background and were not pushy or overbearing in trying to get us to place our order. The food menu was wide ranging and well explained, the staff were also more than willing to alter dishes to accommodate dietary requirements where possible and were knowledgable about the ingredients of each dish. The quality of the food was very good and it was evident that care and attention had been put into each and every dish that we had. The food was well presented and portion sizes were plentiful, certainly everyone was very well fed. After our main course was cleared we were provided with hot towels to freshen our hands, and with out bill we received chocolates for everyone. A good time was definitely had by everyone. I thank all the staff at the Joy Raj for a great evening out.

Got a takeaway from here last night. Served us raw chicken in the butter chicken. All the pieces were like The one in the photo. Felt sick all the rest of the night. When we complained we were offered a 2/3 refund on the order. Terrible service.

Table booked for 7pm, food arrived 8:40pm. No apple juice, non-alcoholic or draught beer. Place in a poor state of repair. The very many Deliveroo riders clearly took priority and on a cold night their constant arrival and departure through the door sent a frequent icy blast of freezing cold air towards our table. Will not be returning. Food was ok but in no way made up for a very disappointing evening.

Food ok, staff quiet pleasant, service was good. However, the place was in a pretty poor state… we entered the smoky plain stairway – at the bottom of the stairway there was hole in the wall.. nice! Then enter into the dining area.. once inside there was a musty smell, the furniture is very tired, the carpet was full of stains and marks and was lifting near the kitchen area, the wall paper was bubbling in a lot of places and in some instances torn and hanging off the wall.. some of the ceiling lights were hanging down out of their fixtures.. other broken light fittings hanging down. There are many other Indian restaurants around the local area, so until the place is sorted I think I’ll be dining elsewhere..

My dad, my boyfriend and I visited the Joy Raj for a late night Indian last night and was extremely satisfied!! The service was amazing and the food even better. If you’re looking for a delicious curry - then you have to visit this place! Can’t wait to return!

We have been coming here for absolutely years we all absolutely love the Butter chicken best I’ve ever tried! Lush naan bread thin and crispy bursting with flavour! Amazing attentive staff always welcoming and kind! Amazing and highly rated from us all! See you soon!

The order was marked as 'Driver on way' an hour before the food arrived, so I was not surprised the food was so cold. However, I do think if the.food was warm/hot it wouldn't have been any better, as quality wasn't good. Even the order of dips was wrong. If restaurant are too busy to provide a decent level of service, stop taking orders for a brief period, unfortunately Joy Raj didn't preferred taking too many orders resulting in poor service. Hopefully it was just my order ruined last night. Maybe on another night it would be better, but I won't order from again. Just my personal review of my experience.

The food arrived 40/45 mins later then the estimated time. We had to call the restaurant twice both times they said it would be there soon which was not the case. The food then arrived cold and we had to reheat the dishes which is not what you want in takeaway. Will there be any compensation for this? We can show proof of calls.

It was our first time ordering from Joy and my gosh it won’t be our last. From the moment I ordered over the phone to collecting it, the service was so lovely! They used my name, eye contact - everything you love when spending money lol! And the food was just amazing!! No gristly meat, amazing temperature, amazing taste! We highly recommend and will be returning weekly!!

Always deliver on time, very good traditional curries and naans. Have tried a range of starters and to same standard. Makes for a satisfying and well priced take away option at the moment relative to other nearby outlets of all cuisines.

Posiblemente el peor curry que hemos tenido.En primer lugar, faltaba nuestro arroz, así que tuve que sacar un arroz de microondas del armario.Al abrir las cajas pudimos ver el petróleo flotando en la parte superior.Cada artículo de la comida estaba muy frío.No había sabor a ninguno de nuestros platos.El "pollo" se parecía mucho al pollo cortado en cubitos congelado precocido que puedes comprar.Las cebollas crudas se adueñaron de uno de los platos y prácticamente nos atragantamos con las papas fritas masala. ¡Buen trabajo, no había muchas!Qué desperdicio de un duro ganado 30.

Fui por un pollo Roshan Tikka Bhuna con ajo frito picado, tomates cortados en cubitos y cilantro y, en general, fue un plato decente y sabroso que comimos con arroz pilau. A Garlic, Chilli & Keema fue quizás un poco decepcionante, ya que ni el ajo ni el chile son particularmente notables.En general, aunque pensé que no había nada de malo en esto, tenía la sensación de estar en algún lugar atrapado en una distorsión del tiempo en lugar de evolucionar para satisfacer las expectativas de hoy.

Pedimos tres curries, dos tipos de arroz y un par de lados, junto con naan, poppadums y selección de salsas y todo fue absolutamente delicioso. Realmente fresco y sabroso con porciones muy generosas. Entre los tres, tuvimos muchas cosas que recorrer y lo disfrutamos mucho. Definitivamente pediré a Joy Raj la próxima vez que me apetezca un curry.

I absolutely love Joy Raj and order from here all the time, so when a friend and I had a night in last night we ordered a bit of a feast. Like always the food was amazing! I ordered the vegetable dansak which was brilliant (my favourite) and my friend had chicken tikka masala and saag paneer which both looked amazing. We also got garlic naan, pilau rice and bhajis - everything was delicious. Thank you Joy Raj!!

New to the Bristol area and I'm a huge fan of curry. Joy Raj's service was excellent, good atmosphere and delicious food. Would recommend the bhajis (they are second to none). Good chicken tikka masala curry for mild flavour lovers, vegetable dansak is great also. Also had the chance to eat a vegetable Rogan Josh and Vegetable Pathia. Can vouch for all the dishes. Amazing food!

I don’t understand all the other reviews??? Curry was average, but I have to say service was good, but this place needs a lick of paint and a tidy up. So much so it did put me off the food. Food splattered walls,dirty curtain as kitchen door, toilets filthy & falling apart. I was wondering whether we were going to be I’ll, thankfully we went and won’t be going there again. Come on guys, you have so much competition, sort it out!

Saturday evening in Clifton I would expect better service than the table booked a week ago not being ready on arrival. Stuffed in a corner with the walls covered in dirt. Run down and small. Didn't get to eating as the atmosphere was awful. So many much nicer Indian restaurants available in Bristol.

Weekend stay in Clifton and so easyto walk too from hotel. The restaurant is down stairs, but do not be put off! Really suggest booking we were VERY lucky to get a table, but only as we ate early!

I ate in Joy Raj with two friends last week and couldn't believe how tasty the food was. I ordered the vegetable pathia which was so delicious - it had the perfect balance of vegetables and potato to really fill you up - with naan (garlic and peshwari), pilau rice and poppadoms with dip. Everything was fantastic with excellent, friendly service. I will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone. Thanks Joy Raj!

I've had takeaways from Joy Raj in the past but have never dined in the restaurant until now. I came to eat with two friends on a Thursday night and the restaurant was pleasingly busy but the service was still very quick and attentive. We ordered a mountain of poppadoms that came with a great selection of chutneys, and the poppadoms were perfect - crisp but not too oily. The curry itself was the same, all the ingredients tasted very fresh and it wasn't oily or greasy like some curries can be. I chose the chicken tikka karai which had a great level of spice without being overpowering. One of my friends is vegan and she said her vegetable curry was delicious, and came with chunks of potato for a more substantial dish. We shared some sag aloo, a garlic naan and a peshwari naan (we were very hungry!) and all were packed with flavour. The house white wine is decent too, and very affordable.

We visited mid week and the restaurant was empty. But the food was good and also good value. The ambiance and decor rather tired and stairs down had fag ends on etc. I would suggest keeping these clean.

I organise a large group booking here a couple of times a year. The staff and the food are always excellent. We wouldn't bother going anywhere else! Great value, great curry.

Al ordenar me di cuenta de que el restaurante valoraba la comida mal. Se disculparon y juntos pasamos por los costos. Cobraron dos libras de entrega y dos libras en la parte superior para cubrir el costo del puente colgante de Clifton. Todavía había una discrepancia en lo que originalmente dijeron que sería.
