Ahmed's Curry Cafe in Bristol, City of

Ordered 4 different meals for delivery. Not one was good. Two chicken dishes the chicken was dry and sparse, the lamb dish the lamb was tough and tasteless, the king prawn dish the prawns were overcooked and dry. Called to give the business an opportunity to respond. Told "sorry we will give you discount next order. Next order we will make sure the meal is good" All meals should be good. I called twice, the new owner was not available, so wrote to owner to give them a fair chance to respond - they have ignored my letter. This tells me they don't care. I will never use them again and will share my experience with as many people as I can.

Everything was cold when it finally arrived after waiting over an hour. The garlic chilli chicken is usually delicious but it was so spicy this time it was impossible to eat it. They put the cans of Coke on top of the food which is probably why the food was cold and the cans were warm. Won’t be ordering from here ever again

Always been a favourite. Great value and this weekend order the Chicken Dhansak and it was the best I have ever had. Amazing.

Ordered a delivery tonight - food was delicious...tasty and hot and large portions. Service was impeccable - even had a call from the chef to explain there needed to be a slight tweak to our order due to availability...which was fine....even the delivery driver was polite and helpful. Definitely ordering again!!!!

Forget any revues over 3 months old. A new crew doing the business and they know their stuff. Tandoori chicken with some tomato Dahl was beautiful tasting. Will be back for more.

Second time running I was missing an item. I checked but did not notice there was one naan not two. Last time we were missing all naans. I drove to the restaurant as they would not answer the phone, was rectified. The food is amazing. Shame about the poor attention to orders. Nice guys at the restaurant too. Unlikely to order again sadly.

Food came cold, I used to order from this Indian quite a lot mainly on a odd Friday night however either the chef has changed or it’s not the same royal spice I knew and liked the lamb was not tender the chapattis were hard the food was not fresh it’s giving it was cooked days ago and warmed up Disappointed I will not be ordering from here again, I guess nothing good last forever.

Sadly the food was Luke warm at best. The order was incorrect too. I don’t mind the mistake with the order but I really am disappointed with having to microwave the meal. I’m usually very happy with the quality and service, so presume it’s a one off. I consider myself an understanding person so I will continue to use this takeaway. However I will be requesting a refund if this happens again

You need to try it to believe how good the food taste from Royal Spice , first time ordering and wont be the last , perfectly cooked meats and great spice tastes to make the taste buds dance , great service from delivery and time to the last mouthful which was a struggle as plenty per portion at a reasonable price compared to others , thanks Royal Spice !

This is the first time I've ordered from here but I've ordered many curries from many different take aways in Bristol and I have to say this was the best I've ever tasted!! Food arrived on time and was lovely and hot. I had the garlic chilli chicken which had huge pieces of chicken and it was so tasty and by far the best I've had in this town and it was really spicy just the way I like it. The garlic naan was lovely and fluffy and the mixed starter was also delicious!! This is going to be my go to Indian take away from now on for sure 😊

this place used to be my favourite curry house. unfortunately it has now changed ownership and they are using the cheapest ingredients possible. i wont be back.

Ordered a takeaway over the phone and the new owners were super friendly. Had the Vegetable Dhal Sag and Aloo Chana Rogan Josh. Both were nice and the Garlic Naan was perfect. Will definitely order again from here.

Terrible. Name has changed to ‘Royal Spice’. No evidence of this on website. I assume that most of the reviews are fake. Vegetable Madras was bland, it also contained edamame in their shells which was inedible. Mushroom Bhaji, bland. Avoid.

And so it came to pass, that Bristol's only authentic curry society graced the finest Indian Brasserie Chandos Road has to offer. Greeted with the exciting news it was in fact BYO, the host of the evening scuttled down the road to a charming little off license, with intentions of delighting and bedazzling his awaiting brothers.

Amazing taste(would say authentic, but never been to India)and the prices are good. Literally the best Indian food I ever tried in my life and the staff is really friendly.

THE best Indian in Bristol! Literally! We ordered for it on a whim weeks ago and now our favourite. Really nice guy that runs it and his son. They delivered late for us too. My boyfriend loved the football chat with the (I think) owner too. Try this place people!!!

Ordered a takeaway to within 2 minutes distance of this restaurant, an hour later no food had turned up. I walked to the shop to find it had closed. I rang the restaurant the next day and explained what had happened, and I was greeted with hostility. The owner then proceeded to lie to me directly and say that he recognised my voice and that I had rung back and cancelled the order. A real let down to the other good grass roots business' in the local area.

The waiter could not have cared less; was trying to take plates away before food was finished, walked away when I was mid sentence etc.Prices aren't expensive but def could not be called cheap. Food is overly greasy and not particularly tasty. Given the v stiff competition in Bristol from the likes of Shish Mahal, Asian Spicy, Indian Fast Food etc. I don't think I'll be going back.

Ahmed, time to retire! The passion has gone, a very tired outfit that could do with a lick paint. Curry salty with not much flavour, rice not included in the current groupon deal randomly.When I ordered some draft cobra I was told no you're having KIngfisher. Don't try any banter with this guy,nice enough man just worn out, poor chap!

Always worth the wait. The very generous Paneer Shashlik is my Vegetarian partners go-to, the Haandi is a new favourite of mine plus any lamb dish, and always a big fan of the Prawn Puri or Tomato Dahl. Nice environment to eat in as well, love the wooden display in the window and perfectly located.

Another 5* meal at one of Chandos Road's #fab5Redland - independent restaurants. Consistently good since I arrived in Redland in 2002. Ahmed's in the Deliveroo Nation is adapting and doe his online delivery in person - so a table almost guaranteed on a walk in..... And, 15 years later, the star performer at Ahmed's Curry Café is still the quality ingredients - Lovingly cooked and served with knowledge, and Bengal's famous courtesy.. Even my humble onion Bhaji sang with flavour and crunch. Fresh cooked and excellent value at £2.95 Menu for two £35 Popadoms with 4 fresh dips, onion bhaji, main courses for the two of us - chicken* breast meat only, and a Cobra each. Jug of tap water served with a smile - All cooked fresh in the open kitchen. Total for the two of us £35 - I stopped ordering desert here 12yrs a go, and we head instead to Gloucester Road for ice cream, waffles and the nightly live music. Check @GloucesterRoad60 > And, for free we got wrapped mints, FREE WiFi no strings and a catchy phrase in Bengali: - "See you next time for our most excellent (meat or veggie (ed.) Thalis". = Aber dkahoba Amer pro thali :)

Cheap place and the food was pretty good. Service was good although it is true that the place needs to be refurbished and most of all the wood that covers the windows should be removed!

Slightly more expensive than your usual place so we thought it may be good. Sadly it's bang average which is sadly a common theme in Bristol. Their tikka is not cooked in a tandoor, sauces quite bland. Not bad just nothing special. This area really suffers from a great Indian restaurant.

What an absolutely perfect curry!! Loved it, such good food, the chef knows his spices!! Me and the old man are always on the look out for a great curry. This one didn't disappoint. Good service, the curry flavours took us back to the early 80's, 90's when curries were great, now most places seem to be all about the decor and not about the food. I had the Vegetarian Thali, my partner had a Chicken Madras just so good, made me want to come home and write a review. The take away service at this place is just constant! If you like your curries this place will not disappoint, I think someone mentioned in an earlier review that this place is a hidden gem, it certainly is. Thank you so much will remember this meal and your place.

Ahmeds curry cafe really does offer something a little different in Redland. Although a little dated, the inside of the restaurant has character and serves delicious food. One of my pet hates though which we are seeing far too often with Indian and other Asian cuisines is the charging of the chutney trays. It seems a bit odd but it's the small things such as the free poppadoms and chutney in the Indians and the breadbaskets in Italians that really do make the difference. Overall though, lovely food, a small and characterful premises, for the price you pay makes this a worthwhile visit.

My go to for a take away. They offer some nice alternatives to the usual curries (the podina is my personal favourite) and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

We often pop in to dine and will do so again. The service is prompt and cheerful. the food is good value.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place by accident tonight and aren't we pleased we did!! The food was so tasty, made with love. Importantly for me, the service was absolutely top notch - all the staff were so attentive and friendly. We found ourselves planning our next trip back to the restaurant on the walk home. When moving to Bristol 6 months ago we asked a lot of people where to get a good curry. I've often been let down by recommendations but Ahmed's kept coming up, so we gave them a go. The first time the curry was very nice actually but we were told it would take 45mins and we waited 1.5hrs. The curry was tepid when it arrived. The driver told me they always look after customers and to leave back feedback on their website and they would put it right. I got no reply. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again a few weeks ago. When ordering I told them what happened last time and they assured me it wouldn't be the same again but low and behold, it was over 1.5hrs this time. The standard of the curry was poor and it was tepid once again. I called to complain and whoever I spoke to said someone will call me back to sort it out. I got no call. Needless to say I won't be going back or passing on the recommendation. The search continues!

We order from Ahmed weekly. He never disappoints. Having tried a host of curry houses around Clifton, Redland and Gloucester Road, Ahmed remains our firm favourite. Our house is tricky to find, there's never a problem. Food is generally on time, well cooked and great value. Highly recommended for a top takeaway.

We keep coming back to Ahmed's time after time because every time we are amazed at the depth of taste in the dishes. I love the feeling of surprise when you sit down to a meal and know that you could never cook anything like it at home no matter how hard you try. The ingredients and quality of the cooking in Ahmed's is superb and every Indian restaurant we've visited since discovering it have been a let down. Love it.

I've been visiting for 6 years now and have introduced many friends to this little gem. Why I keep coming back, very friendly staff, extensive, great tasting food every time (I can genuinely tell you in 6 years and I eat there at least once a month if not more. I've never had a bad meal! Which is a pretty impressive record, and in that time I have sampled alot of different dishes) very reasonably priced. And very comfortable environment. A very pleasant experience every time.

I just ordered a curry from here and I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED!! it was watery, unseasoned and the meat was dry. The chicken in the balti was unseasoned and the chicken tasted over cooked and the sauce tasted watery and tasted as if it was out of a jar and would of probably tasted nicer if it came out the jar the peppers and onions in the sauce were slimy and this was not a thick spicy chicken balti sauce. The lamb korma was watery and had no taste either and the lamb was also dry and the worst thing then charged £16!!!! Then the manager swore at me on the phone and told me I was wrong!!!!!!

Underseasoned curries galore, I have often visited Ahmeds late and they happy to cook, pretty cool guys but yeah just up the flavour game really.
