Best Chinese in the area, food always to a great standard and delicious. Great range of dishes and full of flavour. It's our go-to, always.

If you don't want to land yourself in the hospital don't ear from here. I can honestly say I'd rather eat a scabby donkey

I don't normally like to complain about businesses, however after having a meal from here over the weekend I felt I had to share Firstly don't expect to use plastic here, it's cash only, secondly this has to be the worst Chinese food for miles around, no flavour, I had Beef Satay but it was more like Beef in coloured water, no Satay taste whatsoever, likewise with my wife's Kung Po I honestly think you could do better buying a supermarket Chinese meal, it's bound to have more flavour......Waste of money

Couldn’t finish my meal and the small amount I had eaten made me feel sick. Pork was just fat and gristle with no flavour and the chicken wasn’t cooked enough. Absolutely terrible food. No one else was pleased with their meal either. I don’t understand how a Chinese takeaway can make such bad egg fried rice.

Worst chinese I think I have ever had. Tasteless, ribs had no meat on and the meat that was on them was dry. WILL NOT BE GOING THERE AGAIN

I have eaten at the other local chinese in Ivybridge previously and found it to be quite pleasant and well priced. I thought I would try out Joy King in an attempt to help out another small business but I will not be returning again. The food was very greasy and lacked any flavour. The lady that was working there was quite rude which is disappointing as this does have the potential to be a decent takeaway if some adjustments are made.

Been a regular customers ever since I moved in the area a few months ago. Huge selection of meals to choose from. Would recommend the chef special fried rice and the sweet and sour chicken balls never fail to disappoint the family. Special hors d'oeuvres is a good mixed starter to share! Staff have been polite every time I've been.

Tried Joy King this evening as our usual Chinese was closed - very disappointed! Initial reaction was that the portions were really small, then couldn’t believe the total lack of flavour. And they only take cash…. really!? In this day and age? Definitely wouldn’t go here again…..

Great tasty food, generous portions. Tip: If you order by phone it will be ready when you get there. Good selection on the menu. Not sure why some people expect a discount, they are a business trying to survive.... Please support them.

Don't order. Several times we have ordered. My partner is a NHS worker. No discount. Dispite that we ordered as modbury was closed. Portion size my 5 Yr old would still be hungry. I informed before on previous order and they said portion would be bigger. So we gave them benefit of doubt. Portion was SMALLER!!!!!! THIS IS MY 1ST EVER REVIEW on anything on trip advisor. Ppl of ivybridge or local. Please read and listen. Do not order. Ull remain hungry despite calling. No sorry no refund nothing. Just HUNG UP. Nothing. Thanks joy King

We had crispy duck and pancakes & Cantonese style chicken wings. Both were top notch and we’d definitely return.

Had chicken curry last night utterly dreadful bits of chicken floating in watery soup no onions. Normally a bit better

So myself and partner went for a takeaway tonight at joy king, what can I say. It was the worst food we have ever had. The chicken was tasteless and like rubber. Enough onion for four meals in one container. Rice was over cooked. Will not be eating here again. If I could of given a zero I would. Avoid.

Had Chinese for tea last night can't fault it at all bloody handsome and there a good bunch of people too

Definitely the better Chinese in Ivybridge, cheaper yet more tastier. Had the pancake rolls, mee goreng noodles, chef special fried rice, sweet crispy shredded chicken, sweet & sour chickens balls and salt and spicy chips, all the dishes were amazing! Also, the staff were very polite and happy to help with explaining the different dishes.

Shocking!! No taste at all, noodles where disgusting all stuck together not separated no flavour at all, complained about food as no taste and was told they don’t use fresh seasoning or fresh chillies.Bbq sauce was like slime awlful .... extremely disappointed and will never use again!!!

This is a good honest traditional Chinese takeaway run by people that provide a consistent range of dishes. Friendly, fairly priced and quick service. Local people keep going back so they must be getting it right for customers.

The portion size is good but the taste for me was not right. I eat a lot of chinese food from many take away's and the curry was not nice at all. Even though a telephone order was given I still waited 15 mins after I arrived and the shop was empty. I wont be going Back.

I always use this Chinese as it's the best around! My sister came down from Cheltenham to visit and her partner has a curry. He said he it was the best Chinese curry he had ever had. The staff are always polite and friendly. Would highly recommend.

We usually get take away from here but the last time we ordered the food was awful.The chow mein tasted weird I didn't eat any of it , my partner had chicken balls which looked like the batter hadn't been cooked properly , when I rang to complain I was just told that everyone else hadn't complained !! Won't be going back!!!

Myself and my partner had a takeaway from here on Tuesday night at it was awful.The chicken in the chow main and chicken balls was awful,it was like warm also.it had no taste and was dry beyond belief. When my partner rang and complained their was no apology or offer of a refund. Will definitely not use again.

Ordered and picked up a takeaway tonight , chicken chow mein was awful the chicken was rubbery had a weird taste , chicken balls were dry and not nice . Rang up to inform them was met with" other people have had it and they haven't complained "no apology . Won't be ordering from here again

Food Is Ok But Not Very Good Would Not Eat In Less Needed To, However Staff Are Quite Nice And Friendly To Talk To, And The Prices Are Also Very Good. Visted In 2013 Mainly, However Had One Trip In 2017.

A frequent user, Joy king never disappoints. A wide range of Chinese foods, always satisfying. Not suitable for celiacs.

Been buying food here for around a year and always enjoyed BUT, Last week was not so good, The chicken was like chewing rubber, Never had this before from Joy King,It is very unusual. Hope it was a one off.

Had the roast pork, chicken and beansprouts. Tasty until 4 hours later, vomiting and diarrhoea for 3 days. Will not be returning.

I have visited this takeaway a few times but the last time was the last straw for me! I had food poisoning so badly that I had to take time off work. Me and my partner had different meals but both had sickness from it. Never again

We nearly didn't use this takeaway as the reviews were poor. However we decided to give it a go and were really pleased we did. The food was tasty and cooked well. There was plenty of meat in the sweet and sour balls and the special fried rice could have been a meal on its own. It was really good value for money and we were able to collect it within 20 mins which was great. I will certainly be using Joy King again and advise people to give it a go.

We ordered a takeaway of 4 dishes. All were bland, meat pieces were hard, prawns were hard, lemon sauce tasted like lemony flour. We will not eat here again. Staff were polite and service was quick.

One of the worst meals me and my family have every TRIED to eat ....everything we ordered tasted disgusting.....all the meat in the meal was inedible wouldn't even feed it to my dogs .....will never use this Chinese again .....what a waste of money to put straight in the bin

Have ordered from this Chinese for a good while now and have never been disappointed. Take away service is prompt and food always delivered hot. Defo recommend this place

Pretty good Chinese with a good choice & variety with decent portions (though shame they don't deliver).

Ivybridge has seen a welcome increase in choice when it comes to food. Tastefully converted gastro-pubs, tasty Indian restaurants, fantastic Chippies and traditional provincial Public houses. One thing that hasn't changed though is the Chinese Takeaway.Fore Street has two. One has customers the other has very few.Joy King has been the Chinese of choice for many many years but only out of necessity. There are far better in Plymouth but that's an extra 45 minutes of not having a meal or more care in planning required. Spontaneous oriental food is governed by our two choices.The Joy King is clean, friendly and efficient with a large menu BUT the food is nothing special.The reasonable prices are welcome but more taste at the expense off menu options may well see an increase in customers.Just because the menu hasn't changed doesn't mean it can't get better.Now there's a challenge.

Worse Chinese takeaway ever. The meat was slimy, the prawn crackers were very greasy, the egg fried rice was edible. Agree with Tex470 the young lady who served me was very polite. Never again.

The crispy chicken in spicy sauce with carrot and celery sticks is well worth trying. Good quantity of shrimps in the fried rice. Chow mein is also great. Best takeaway in Ivybridge.

Without doubt the worst Chinese takeaway I've had, even surpassing the previous one. Foolish to think it might have improved.The meat in the Pork balls was like chewing gum and the chips were over cooked and liable to break your teeth. The egg fried rice was about the only thing enjoyable.The only other good thing I can say about the place is, the young lady who served us was polite and well mannered.

Quick ,friendly service, food really lovely , better than the one down the road, cash only , strange these days as most places accept cards.
