Tsang's Restaurant in South Hams

Arrived in Dartmouth after a 10hour delay on M5 due to serious incident. Unhitched on Caravan site and went in search of food that was still open. Front of house staff very welcoming and pleasant after a horrendous journey. Takeout food prepared very quickly. Good price and very hot/tasty. Just what we needed!!

The people are very friendly and helpful. The food was nice but sorry to say an average take away. But I suppose it's what you're used to. The crispy chilli beef was overcooked & the chow mein very greasy. The other bits were nice though.

Check out the Council hygiene status of this establishment. The window shows a 5. The real hygiene status is 1, as quoted on the Environmental Agency website. Today, the BBC have published a report about the number of establishments that lie about thier hygiene status. It's better to check their website than rely on the stickers in the window.

Very poor sweet & sour chicken, canton style..couldn't decern the chicken from the batter. Egg fried rice..dry & over cooked. Duck with pineapple...duck appeared boiled and lacklustre. All in all very disappointing. One plus.. ..the take away service was quick & efficient.

Probably the worst Prawn Chow Mein I have ever had. Noodles totally soggy , seemed like leftovers , veg tough & the sauce - not sure what it was ? can’t believe that a restaurant/ takeaway could actually make such a poor dish !

The best Chinese takeaway we have ever had. Every single dish was fresh and piping hot. The flavours were spot on. Will be coming back every time we visit Dartmouth. Thank you!

Lovely takeaway. Good value for money. Only dish we were disapponted with was the Lemon chicken, very dry and little sauce, otherwise all other dishes were very tasty.

Despite some quite varied reviews, I found this to be quite average - verging on not great. The rice seemed a bit old and I had a bitter taste that I wasn't sure what it was. I didn't eat all of my chicken.

The best beef satay I've had, aside from my local back home. We called to order whilst having a drink around the corner and he kindly asked what time to have it ready for. It was piping hot and fresh when we collected it and he double bagged it so it was still warm when we got back. After reading previous negative reviews, we were a bit dubious about trying here, but I'm so happy we did! Will definitely be back before the end of our holiday!

Ordered a take away on a Thursday evening, service was prompt & the guy serving was nice & friendly. The food was hot & well packed. We had as part of our meal, lemon chicken & duck in plum sauce & I really liked that the sauces came in seperate containers so that you could add as much or as little as you wanted. All the food was tasty, we would definitely go back.

I genuinely cannot understand some of the previous reviews. The food was perfectly nice and well priced. It ticked all of the boxes needed and the service was outstanding. Will return

Special fried rice was dry, chicken wings had minimal meat on them, and prawn crackers were flavourless.

Had a takeaway. Food was OK but portions small and expensive for what you get. Won't be going back. Saw the price of boiled rice at £4 odd so went to Coop next door to get micro packets. Chicken balls were bite sized. Pancake rolls in mixed starter were mini vegetable rolls. Prawn toasts were two quarters. Disappointed.

Was visiting Dartmouth and we decided on a Chinese. We went in to order and there were a few items that they didn't do and I was told by the person that served us (not Chinese) that they served "English"! We ordered a number od dishes and I must say stay away if you want a "real" Chinese !! I would NEVER GO BACK!

Never will I ever set foot in this place again! After a nice night out to be met with this women at the counter insisting I say please after every order. Then realising she had upset me saying where do you think I’m from then saying Germany about rounded it up! So bloody rude I know English! I have lived here all my 45 years. My partner who is S African was lost for words and so was I. One star is way to much. Learn English and if you don’t like it don’t work dealing with English People! Clearly she was on some ego trip! Very sad I cut the order short and got the hell out. Before I lowered myself to her level. If you don’t like rude Germans do not go to this place.

Absolutely disgraceful. Was totally disgusting!!!..chicken King po was especially bad....sure it was out of some cheap rate shop sauce with carrots and a handful of peanuts thrown in for good measure!! As for the chicken chow mein... Never seen, or tasted anything like it!!

Visit was for a quick light takeaway during a stay in Dartmouth. Odd time obviously, but Monday night with no indoor dining allowed it was quiet, and clearly opening the hours are not fixed. Two of us shared a few dishes and they were all good. Food was hot and packed well. We had a pancake roll that was listed as a portion of 2, but only 1 in the bag. A local friend recommended this as the best for Chinese in Dartmouth. It did the job.

Best Chinese ever had!! Visiting from North West and beats any takeaway up there, salt and pepper chips and chicken top level and everything else delicious.

I really did not like this food, it was greasy, over seasoned with small portions and extremely pricey! Struggling to see how they are still in business to be honest.

Stayed in Dartmouth for a week and fancied a Chinese. We were apprehensive due to previous reviews but after seeing they have 5 star food hygiene we thought we would give them a go, we were not let down. Very friendly staff on collection and on the phone. It was bloody lovely, we had a special curry and Hong-Kong style sweet and sour chicken, one boiled rice and one egg fried rice we would definitely recommend! Thank you

Dreadful experience. This was the only chinese restaurant in Dartmouth and we were bitterly disappointed. First of all the place is awful inside and out, you would think that the owners would have taken advantage of the lockdown closure to clean and paint the place. Just look at the outside and that reflects the food inside. A very basic order of bbq spare ribs, fried rice and King prawn egg fu yung was a disaster. After waiting half an hour outside the shop (only one person allowed inside) and watching later orders be collected it turns out that they forgot to tell me it was ready. Obviously when i got home it was all near cold. The ribs were tough as old boots and the sauce definitely not bbq, instead it was a watery tasteless pink gloop. The egg fried rice was burnt brown and no egg in it! The best I can say about the king prawn egg fu yung was that the peas were OK. Avoid this place like the virus and try somewhere else, you have been warned, don't waste your money!

We've eaten from Tsangs several times in the past and it's been absolutely fine. I'm not sure if something's changed since lockdown but we were very disappointed this time. The mixed starters were not nice and the chicken satay was awful - we left most of it, which is a first! The chicken was tough and stringy and the sauce didn't appear to have ever seen a peanut. It was just a brown gloop. My husband's chicken with cashew nuts was not terrible but bland and below average. My pork balls were mostly batter. The special fried rice and lemon chicken were fine although nothing special. It was nice to get free prawn crackers but even they were very bland! The decor is extremely tired - the carpet is filthy and worn and the outside of the shop is dirty and outdated. I would have thought lockdown might have provided the perfect opportunity to do some redecoration! I know they have been going since 1986 but unfortunately it looks as though the decor hasn't been updated since then. The one plus was that the woman who took our order was lovely. I'm sorry to give such a poor review to a restaurant which has been at the heart of Dartmouth for as long as I can remember, but there we go. We won't be eating there again.

Dreadful food - remember the 1980’s MSG filled tasteless crap - well these guys have not moved on. I had a totally tasteless Satay - I had satay skewers to start with - not a decent peanut sauce but a load of brown gloop. I had sweet chili duck - horrendous !

Walked by and realised they are now open for delivery and take away. Finally as it’s been a long wait. Food was great as usual, friendly service, all set up according to government guidelines on social distancing. Perfect.

Vile... 2nd time I have been here.. hoped the first was just a bad day! Over priced and the food is very dry!

A simple dining experience with well-presented, affordable, Cantonese cuisine. My friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Had a meal with my gf and we both like it. Food was delicious and inexpensive. It was our first anniversary. Really enjoyed.

My mom took me for a birthday meal and we all loved it. Food was real good, didn’t take us long to find the restaurant as it’s right by the river. Nice atmosphere, the waitress was very friendly and happy to adjust our order as my mom is intolerant to a few ingredients. Had a great evening and will go back again.

Great experience with my kids. Family friendly restaurant with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Food was really tasty and prices are very reasonable for a place like Dartmouth. Food came out quickly and was definitely freshly cooked. My friends told me they get take aways from them every week and never been let down. Excellent location in the centre of Dartmouth.

We had a takeout from here, it was quite dry, particularly the chicken. The duck and noodles were better. We won’t be using them again sadly.

We stumbled across Tsangsy restaurant by chance and on reflection i wished we hadn't. Perhaps the appearance of the place should have been an indication of what was to come.Never before have we left the selection of starters. Greasy and bland. The rest of the meal was very ordinary. Friendly service but that's all i can say about the place.

We all like to think that we have a great Chinese takeaway or restaurant at home.. having travelled around the bazaars I can safely state that Tsang’s is a fabulous, no frills, reasonably priced and consistently ‘tasty’ takeaway! We love it and always look forward to dining in or taking away. Long may it continue to be a treasured asset to Dartmouth.

Went for a meal with my friends and nobody was disappointed. The food was tasty, friendly service and an excellent location right in the centre of Dartmouth.

This is a no frills restaurant and what appeared to be a popular take away. We came across it so had read no reviews.I did think the entrees are overpriced. App £9.50 each. We had chicken chow Mein and chicken breast with peanuts. Nuts just sprinkled over and a bit too many but food itself tasty enough. Chow mein ok. Thankfully not bolstered up with water chestnuts and all the other cheap veg you get in Chinese meals and egg fried rice. They gave us free prawn crackers which were nice too. The service was very good. Overall a pleasant enough treat.

On holiday yet again at our favourite place Dartmouth!!!! Again had a lovely take away last Saturday, food 100% will be having another take away before we go home at the end of the week! Still the best great service and fast service friendly people!!!!

The one thing I like about Chinese Restaurants like this is no frills no fuss and really good food. A lot of trendy eateries in Dartmouth but this was ace. Cracking food and a few beers .....whats not to like !!!!!!

Staying in dartmouth on holiday and decided to have a Chinese instead of cooking, the lady was very friendly and our food was ready in 15 minuites, but we were very disappointed overall with the quality, the lemon chicken was very tough and the sauce tasted horrible, the dishes were no where near as good as our local chinese take away, the only dish I enjoyed was the Cantonese sweet and sour chicken.

Probably the best takeaway chips ever tasted! Not sure how they get them so crunchy but these chips are definitely worth trying!

Had a takeaway with veg curry, sweet and sour veg and fried rice. These were very tasty and the service was fast.

Two more experiences of this restaurant during a recent holiday. Both times the food and service were excellent - try the Sing Fried Rice, it's amazing - and we would have no hesitation in returning. It's the only place in Dartmouth that we spent two evenings in on this holiday. Luckily, we’d booked a table for the Saturday night, otherwise we wouldn’t have stood a chance. We haven’t tried a takeaway from here, but there's a constant stream of people collecting orders, so it must be really popular.

Great food and service. My family had an excellent meal there. Food and service were five star. Was so good that we ordered a take away the next day. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Dartmouth. Well done guys.

how bad was the food ?????? Disgusting in a word. Singapore noodles had travelled all the way from there by the taste of the it. Chicken curry had a distinct chemical taste to it and the chicken could have been rubber for all the taste. I can only say, don't bother, definitely do not bother wasting hard earned money.It is rubbish....

It's been 4 years since we had a take-away from here - it may well be another 4 before the next.

My wife and I shared a selection of 6 chinese dishes with 4 friends. All the food was tasty and having lived for a time in Hiong King we felt the falvours more authemtic than some chinese take aways we have experienced. Portions adequate and little was left at end.

Really great food.. I'd heard this place had a change of ownership and the food is certainly reflective of that. The food is excellent and the service was very good. Will definitely be back..

Very good takeaway food-the curried chicken and crispy duck were very tasty. Certainly the best chips I've ever had from a Chinese takeaway. Strangely there's an additional cost for boiled rice where elsewhere this is included in the price in some establishments

It was my husbands birthday so we booked a table and had a nice bottle of wine and a lovely meal with our favourite dishes and was the best we had!! When we are on holiday at Dartmouth we always have takeaways here as they are the best in Dartmouth!!

We were staying near Dartmouth and thought we’d pick up a take-away from here one night and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was really tasty, lovely curry and the nicest schezwan I’d ever had. Just the right level of spiciness.

Had not booked and restaurant has empty on Friday evening so I was suspicious than this was going to be a bad experience . It was very pleasant. Good choice of Cantonese food all served hot and good service. Food tasty fine and reasonable portions. Decor is very basic so not romantic or a place to impress but clean and spacious. Reasonably priced too £55 plus service for two people and two courses each

how rude are the staff, i have never encountered anything like it, we have had take aways many times but would not recommend the restaurant to anyone. please do not go.

We ordered a large takeaway and gave one hours notice. We arrived to pick up food and it was not ready the restaurant was full and people were waiting for food. My husband wanted to use the washroom which we felt was reasonable. The woman serving challenged my husband in front of the whole restaurant and said the facilities were for people using the restaurant. He explained that we had ordered a very large takeaway from their restaurant. However she was very very rude. We have never been spoken to like that before. I pointed out that there were no notice stating this ‘rule’ and that she was very unreasonable. I would suggest a customer service call, and we will never return again. When we got the food home we found it over priced and very poor quality we would not recommend this restaurant or takeaway service to anyone and will be contacting the management to point out their failures

Had a lovely takeaway on Saturday evening very good value the best in Dartmouth and I will be going in there again as im here on holiday for two weeks this month and to enjoy the regatta

We have been a few times now to Tsangs to dine in rather than take away. The take away service is very good, so definitely go with it...

Ordered a takeaway and they said it would take an hour. We ordered the food and went to the pub for an hour. We then came back and waited another half an hour for our food. When we got home we realised they hadn't given us all our food but we were so fed up by that point we didn't want to go back

Used the takeaway service. The curry sauce was GREEN! Never seen curry sauce that colour before however, it tasted nice enough. The vegetable chow mein was very nice and the chicken fried rice was OK. It was quite expensive but most places to eat in Dartmouth are over priced!

was not impressed when said we could only come in as 7 people if we didn't sit near each other..wouldnt put 2 tables together and only 2 other people in there..so could not share the food between us. put me off the food after the shocking service. I wouldn't bother go here not the best food either

We visited Tsang's for dinner a few weeks ago and it was pretty disappointing.

We came across this restaurant on a very cold night staying here in Dartmouth. The actual restaurant is not very exciting looking, but this was more than made up for by the lovely food and very friendly and helpful staff.

Very rundown, food ok but sometimes salty

I have eaten here more than once, but more especially I have used their take-way service a lot. The food is excellent, with generous portions and always a cheery, polite service

we no longer live in dartmouth but stopped by and had a takeaway and was really pleasantly surprised. it was really good value and the food was excellent.

We were staying in self catering accommodation and saw the restaurant when wandering around the town. The menu looked very nice but when we looked online the reviews were very mixed. As we had eaten out for lunch and only wanted a small evening meal, so we decided to try it. The food was very nice - the noodles, rice and cha sui pork were especially good. The portions were generous and very tasty, with no ill effects (e.g. from msg which often keeps me awake get during the night after a Chinese if it has in). I would actually say this was above average - and we live in London where we have and use a very broad selection of Chinese restaurants.

This was our first time using Tsang's and the food was fantastic. We had a takeaway which was defined! A bit more in price to our local, but was much better too. A good sign was the phone rang as soon as another order was placed.

Ordered a takeaway for a group of friends whilst on holiday. Food was ready when we were told it would be. And everyone thoroughly enjoyed. We had a selection of starters, and mains between us, all were lovely and hot, and really tasty. Staff in the shop were really helpful. Would thoroughly recommend

Sorry to say we went here one evening apart from the soup everything else was over cooked dry maybe we're we live in Manchester there hundreds of Chinese restaurants but if this was one it wouldn't last very long due to the food quality

Our family of 6 had a takeaway with a range of food. Curry very poor...food all greasy. Chicken satay was ok. Probably best to avoid.

Great chinese. Yummiest mixed chow mein. Service was great even have a pair of reading glasses if you can't see the menu. Will be back for sure.
