Golden Bridge in South Hams

Won't be using these again. Placed an order and paid online to receive a message saying our order was declined. We called up and it was because they had no tofu. We were never refunded. Gave them a second chance and they have done the same again. Refused to honour the payment 6 days later. They have now just said we shall be refunded within 10 days. Becareful if paying online.

Worst Chinese I've ever had! Ordered, held out credit card ... sorry, cash only! Another lady was moaning too! Singapore rice noodles weren't Singapore rice noodles, but some noodles in a sweet n sour sauce. The other dish was so bland and watery, I can't even remember what it was? I shan't go there again.

Didn’t start cooking until we arrived to collect, despite 82 minute collection estimate at point of ordering. Then 10 minutes after turning up to collect, they informed us there was no tofu and offered no alternative.. it was too late by then to go anywhere else so we went hungry. Didn’t have the good grace to face me either, left it all to the poor young man serving.

Absolutely dreadful. £55 order with a 1hr 20min pick up time which I thought was excessive. Arrive on time and told to wait 5 minutes. Then told that there was no tofu (my wife is vegan) and offered no alternative.. quibbled over the refund and I left with no dinner and having to source something somewhere else. Why they couldn’t have told us this at the point of ordering, or at the point of pick up.. night ruined.

Very unusual but egg fried rice tonight was just awful. It was stoggey and dare I say NO EGG. Taking off lid it had a funny smell. As the rest of our meal was fine I didn't ring to complain. Better rice next time please especially as its usually very good

Worst Chinese meal ever. Crispy fried chilli beef tasted like it had no chilli’s, made with a jar of cheap sweet and sour sauce with half a bag of sugar. Threw it away.

All in all not a bad Chinese takeaway. However, the special curry could have been thicker and slightly spicier, the chips were overcooked frozen chips so not great and even though the ribs tasted ok I have seen more meat on a butchers pencil. Nice big L shaped couch in the waiting area otherwise quite a melancholy, vacuous space.

Told them to not add onions in any dish as someone was allergic and would have to be hospitalized. Once we got our order and went home we had found MANY onions in the mushrooms. AND the mushrooms was tainted with the taste of onions. Do NOT go if you have allergies related to food.

Had not used for many years. Great improvement on previous times. Food was very good, plentiful and hot. Going back again this week.

Shocking service,2 times now messed up my order, food cold Pork instead of chicken and duck was just a lump of mush☹️

This is the worst Chinese we have eaten, do not waste your money. If you ask for specific items not on any dishes, they totally ignore you and the chicken balls are inedible and disgusting. How can you get them wrong.

Much better. We heard of the changes, which is higher pricing, but much better quality. Well done making the changes.

Good and popular local Chinese takeaway.

Visited this takeaway and placed an order for a pick up 20 minutes later. Got food after 40 minutes . They were sending walk in’s away but still taking phone orders. Informed no crispy seaweed available in the hors d’oeuvres, no alternative offered. Ribs were inedible. Spring rolls sqashed. The worst though was I ordered chicken balls but on eating discovered we had prawns balls. Really dangerous for anyone with an allergy. Beef in black bean good but wont risk a return. Real shame.

First time ordering and we were not disappointed, delicious tofu dishes, lovely friendly staff , will be back !

We've been ordering from these guys for years, theve just started doing vegan dishes, we tried the black bean and garlic tofu, and the tofu in satay sauce, with our usual rice and chow main, absolutely banging !! We are so happy they have started doing vegan dishes and they taste amazing, thank you !!!!

We had a set meal for two, plus hors d’oeurves, you could easily feed 4 adults… there was so much very delicious food!! The best Chinese I’ve had in the 7 years I’ve lived in Devon.

The food was not ready when I arrived, had not even been started! There were a dozen people in the same situation, one lady had ordered at 5pm, it was nearly 8pm and they still hadn’t started hers! Four people requested refunds, myself included whilst I was there. They were still taking orders until it was questioned. I feel for the front staff as they were having to deal with the brunt because the greedy man in the back wanted everyone’s money! Avoid like the plague!

Golden Bridge is really good and their food is delicious. It's always on time, piping hot and generous portions. Fresh al dente veggies and tasty sauces. I won't return to a Chinese that has 'gloopy' sauces and poor service. The Vegetable Kung Po Style is my favourite, and the lemon chicken is delicious too with a light, lemony sauce. We will keep coming back, brilliant takeaway. I like to order online and then collect. You can see your previous orders if you have an account too. My one wish for the online ordering would be to be able to re-order a previous order.

Just had the satay beef and salted & spicy king prawns - BOTH SO SO GOOD! had other food from here quite a few times in the past, usually nice but on occasion is not as good - wonder if they have a different chef sometimes.

Just had the most amazing Chinese takeaway from Golden Bridge! Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the service was top-notch. Highly recommend!

Caught on night when timings for collection were to say the least awful. Must say it was very busy which is obviously good for business, but really need to sort timings better

Our orders have always really tasty and piping hot. It is a delicious Chinese takeaway which is reasonably priced. We are regular customers and have no need to look elsewhere

Use to be not very nice but now it is very tasty. The only thinkni would say is the BBQ sauce is to rich and dark

Love this take-out restaurant. Food is always full of flavour and a hot temperature. Portion sizes are generous. I'd recommend the set-menus they do.

Really nice here, I normally go for a curry, but your taste is different from mine have what you want I'm sure your live it too.

When I phoned up and order I was amazed at the customer service as they were really helpful when explaining differences between dishes. After placing my order I was given a very short waiting time before I had to collect unlike many other Chineses where I'd be waiting alot longer for less food. In regards to taste I didn't have any faults and highly enjoyed my food. Will be coming back for sure 😁

We haven’t had a takeaway from here for years but thought we’d give it a go and I can honestly say it was the nicest Chinese we have had in a very long time.

The food hear is good but it lacks customer service we booked on line and paid only to tell you after you had paid you had 1.5hours to wait for your food..I decided to go down as I had paid..they made me wait the full time despite me waiting..there were other people coming in from the street ordering and being served even though I had booked and paid on line..the 2 guys in there are very rude talking about you yet you could hear them..so rude and no people skills. I have given them a rating of 1 due to there rudeness.shocking and shame on you..

I would not recommend eating here at all. We found hair in 2 separate meals. Absolutely disgusting for a food establishment. The whole lot went straight in the bin after finding hair in our food, but they did not feel it was acceptable to refund our whole order therefore refused to refund anything other than the 2 meals. We were then told there are 2 other local Chinese’s we could go to if we weren’t happy. Honestly would not recommend at all (unless you want hair in your food).

Had a chicken and beef curries with egg fried rice and a salt and pepper spare ribs. I am unsure what the chicken meat was but it was flat and rubbery as was the beef but that was more palatable. The sauce with them both was probably the most bland curry sauce I’ve ever had. The salt and pepper spare ribs were unusual and not as has been presented to me before in the many Chinese restaurants I’ve eaten in in my life. I don’t think I’ll be having anymore takeaways from there again until I hear they’ve got their act together.

Have order online e twice now and both times it has taken about 2 hours to get our food. Had an email an hour after collection telling me our food was ready. Food is still very good just shame about the wait

I visted this takeaway at Ivybridge n i was very impressed. I ordered chef's special fried rice with bbq spare ribs. The portions were really big, there were more ribs then I'd ever had at any Chinese eat in or takeaway before. The reason why i gave it 4 stars n not 5 was that the special fried rice itself needed more sauce, as lovely as it was n it tasted really great with the meat n bbq sauce on the top but a bit more sauce would've been absolutely perfect as it was just a tiny bit dry. Adding the ribs on top of the rice with its own bbq sauce made it just about right. The meal was large enough for 2 maybe 3 people. I'd definitely recommend it as a good takeaway n I'll be going there again the next time I visit Ivybridge.

Went there last night for my takeaway. Ordered at 5.10 was told it would be an hour so went down at 6.10. After asking several times where my food was and being ignored by the spotty little teenager behind the counter it finally came out 49 minutes later with no apology. Appalling service. Won't be going there again. They are quick to hand out pandemics but crap at sorting out food

Our first meal back at Golden Bridge after a couple of months. Very impressed and will be ordering again! We had the hors d’oeuvres starter, sweet and sour chicken hong kong style and beansprout noodles. All of which were extremely tasty, and would definitely be ordered again.

Haven’t had a Chinese since lockdown, was hot and tasty, really enjoyed it, service was quick, rapidly improved

I regularly used the Golden Bridge as my go to Chinese takeaway for thirty years and was always very happy with the food. However in the last year it has been taken over. It appears the new owners have little idea. (Chunks of raw carrot on top of a chicken and cashew nut?) All very bland and tastless. Went back a month later to give it a second chance. I won't be going again. All very sad

Phoned for collection order wanted set meal A2 asked to change one of the rice to chips and they tried to add extra £1.50 for change when chips cost £2.00 and rice is £2.60 they would still be making money even just for the change let alone charging me extra. The teenager on the phone was very rude!! I did ask to speak to someone else and he said they bearly speak english. I have been using this Chinese since moving to ivybridge last year. Well I wont be using it

New management is awful. They got my food order wrong. I rang up and explained, asked for my correct order and to return what I had incorrectly been given. They refused a swap. They then refused a refund. The chef refused to speak to me on the phone and I heard him say no refund no exchange. Disgusting. Never will use them again.

A cold wet sunday night quiet in the town. 2 chefs... £39 chinese ordered. Spare ribs inedible with gristle and coagulated sauce. Spring rolls had nothing but beansprouts in them (cut them open) chicken chow mein was dry noodles, few beansprouts, 2 bits of onion, smallest strips of maybe chicken. Duck pancakes were shredded duck that wasnt half and saltiest sauce you could imagine...feeling very very ripped off and wont be back

To be fair in past food great but family visited on Saturday so ordered 6.35pm told one hour went down to collect and it was best part of another hours wait. So our family visit was missing some members. It’s nice to see local businesses doing well and being popular but don’t give out collection times that are made up. I know they have walk ins as well but my order was first. But my real problem was my chicken noodles dish was worst I’ve had and did play hunt the chicken game. So come on Golden Bridge get it together as there are lots of others out there for your clients to change to for their treat takeaway.

Been there tonight for a takeaway cost nearly £50 was not happy with it chicken didn’t look or taste like chicken went back with half the food as we couldn’t eat it ask to speak to the manager waited 20 mins and he wouldn’t come to me I was shocked just said he was busy it’s been taken over by new people and I’ve never seen customer service like it!!!

Is the Golden Bridge under new management/owners. I had a meal tonight and it was completely different to what I have been used to over the last thirty years.

Excellent value for money. Good tasty and quite quick service. Pancake rolls seem to be home made and much better than the factory ones you sometimes get.

After the takeaway I had at the beginning of the month I will never eat from here again!! The food was just shocking, didn’t complain as I’ve heard they’re quite rude ok the phone when you give them bad feedback

Tonight was my first visit to this Chinese takeaway and it will be my last. I have never had such a vile meal. The prawn toasts were very over cooked, dry and greasy. The duck in plum sauce looked like it had been badly defrosted and microwaved. It was mainly fat and the sauce a congealed mess. I ate bits as the rice was ok but most of it went in the bin. In fact I feel quite sick and it cost £12!

Having lived here for 17 years this is the best chinese by far.Food always tasty and hot very reliable and have never been disapointed.

So much better than the other Chinese in the village! SO much more flavour, nowhere near as greasy. We have been converted and will only be buying our chinese takeaways from here from now on!

Nice quick service and very tasty Young Chow Fried rice. I could not believe how cheap it was. Less than £5 for a full portion. Have been here before and not been impressed but this was really good

Utilizada Golden Bridge en Nochevieja, y tengo que decir que la calidad era excelente. Cena para 4 5 fácilmente y todos lo disfrutamos. La comida era ordenados por las 6 pm, pero no estaba lista hasta casi 6. 30 pero estaba muy concurrido y no era un gran problema. He utilizado muchas veces a lo largo de los años y rara vez teníamos un plato mal. .

Our usual Chinese takeaway wasn't open so decided to give Golden Bridge a try. Wish we hadn't bothered as the food was just greasy and little difference in taste across all the orders. Won't be using again.

Decidimos tener una familia china para llevar los domingos por la noche. Siempre hemos utilizado la alegría King (no regularmente), pero esta vez estaba cerrado, decidimos probar el tentativamente Golden Bridge (que nunca había usado). Llamé y pedimos unos cuantos platos y preguntamos si tenían un schezwan o kung po y el chico joven que hablé nunca había oído hablar de y cuando le pedí que circulan a través de los platos de carne, sighed como si fuera una molestia. Cuando fuimos a recoger el mismo chico estaba siendo muy desagradable con otro cliente sobre un pago y cuando fuimos a pagar nos dijeron que las tarjetas no fueron aceptadas, así que tuve que encontrar un punto efectivo para sacar dinero en efectivo. Después de toda esta debacle nos dieron la comida y los recipientes eran muy escasas, con comida y el pollo era difícil, los platos agridulce estaban bien, la ternera con pimientos que había montones de pimienta y casi ninguna carne y el plato de pato era minúsculo. Me dan comida para llevar desde aquí de nuevo, sin duda!!!

Average Chinese food, nothing special , but not terrible as some of the reviews suggest, some dishes lacking in taste, great after a few beers to take home, but i would say go to the Joy King up the road, its better !

Don't normally go for a Chinese takeaway as find many outlets produce very greasy dishes. Pleasantly surprised by this place. Hubby now has to have his crispy pancake roll every time we get a takeout - even if it's a pizza/Indian/chippy!

I have eaten at a fair few Chinese restaurants and we used to use the other one in Ivybridge. However, where that one started to go downhill we now prefer this one. I especially like the large portions and I love their sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong Style. Rice is very nice as our the beef and mushrooms. Find the meat to be quite lean compared to some of the stuff we have got in the other one in the past.Never had any wrong food, they read my order back when we ring ahead and it never seems to take too long to be cooked either. Will remain my Chinese takeaway of choice in Ivybridge for some time I think.

They used to be the better of the Chinese takeaways, but have gone down hill. They can't even get your order right when you place it.

Ordered set meal for 3. They forgot the spare ribs and every other dish tasted exactly the same, and each dish had a shortage of any meat. I rang to let them know and was responded to with 'OK'. I took nearly all dishes back complete. I was told that, the flavour was standard, there was nothing wrong and that it was only awful in my opinion......... "IF THEY HAD TO REFUND EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T ENJOY THEIR MEAL, THEY WOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS". Should they be in business?

The food here is lovely, we've been ordering irregularly since April 12, and it's never disappointed. Not the biggest choice on the menu but everything we order is nicely cooked, not greasy and yummy. Excellent staff.

This has had a bad review and people in vybridge always seem to moan about it. Not sure why, perfectly 'typical', decent takeaway IMO and is always busy.

Went to this take away as the other takeaway in town was closed due to holidays. Without a doubt the worst chinese food i have ever had the misfortune to be served. Crispy chicken in spicy sauce shouldve read fried clump of breaded chicken dumped on insipid sweet and sour sauce piles of msg and no spice, bbq spare ribs like eating beef jerky, rice swimming in grease, beef in blackbean sauce once again swimming in grease?. We also ordered curry sauce but were given chicken curry which was full of mushrooms ?? (and charged for it) chips were okay to be honest. My wife rang and we were offered a refund. When i went to get it we were offered £9 from a £25 bill now £4.60 of that was overcharged aparrently the trays wernt full enough i didnt realise we had to scrape that crap back off our plates to recieve a refund i argued that the rice was swimming in grease and they refunded that a whopping £11.40, crap food crap customer services. If your thinking of going there i would seriously advise you to rethink.
