Food took about 20 minutes to cook. Fish was full of bones. Portion size was good but pricey. Overall I would not recommend.

The child who run's this place, (14 - 18 years old, not sure) is either passively being rude by ignoring you for his phone, or is actively being rude by being aggressive, tricksy or a combination of the two. Didn't have what I wanted, but tried to charge me extra for an inferior alternative. I demanded my money back in the end after 10 mins waiting. Then had to argue for it. The other staff seem okay, but this guy is in there 9 times out of 10, so I avoid now, lest I end up slapping him.

Would normally go to Jolly Bee as a local of Forest Hill. The food is normally excellent. Not 04.04.2020. It was awful. The food was old and stale extremley dry and tasteless. Come on JB whats happened. Will look for another shop now. Won't go Back there! Was expensive too!

It was lovely to revisit the Jolly Bee Traditional Fish and Chip Shop again there were quite a few people in front waiting for their freshly fried chips. Also, a few people in conversation sitting eating and enjoying their meal. It was nice to see the guys behind the counters Mecit and Valentin the last time we visit they really made us feel welcome. We order fish and chip to take away and other things. The fish was fried to perfection just right not dripping in grease batter I ordered medium cod and it was delicious the fish was a good size and meaty. The Jolly Bee Tradition Fish and Chip shop is not over price has the other local chip shops they even do a loyalty card collect ten stamps and get a free fish. To park you can park in the local train station, call Forest hill station across the road for only 15 min.

Have tried this plaice twice now. First time I ordered the large haddock and chips, but the batter was bland and there was very little of it. The fish fillets used were also quite thin (despite being “large”), which meant you ended up with too much bland batter and not enough fish to fillet. It wasn’t very good - very underwhaleming. They say it’s freshly cooked but that is questionable if it’s cold, soggy or chewy. Second time I tried the curry sauce (quite gross, and not like a decent curry sauce that chip shops can offer) and battered sausages - which, despite my asking for them to be freshly cooked - were chewy (the batter in particular), having clearly been left in the display oven for a while. The chips were a big portion for a large and, fortunately, freshly cooked, but they weren’t the best chips in the world. Average, at best, and that’s disappointing when you’re craving something yummy and are left with an underwhelming taste on your palate. Having seen behind the counter, they were keeping their uncooked, battered fish fillets on a serving platter balanced on top of an old ice cream tub on the floor. Not the most hygienic. Won’t be back, so you might want to avoid too. They also seem to get busy and people were frustrated waiting for their food as they don’t serve quickly. (It did make me wonder whether these people had tastebuds.) Very disappointing food from the overly jovial, annoyingly probing child that works there and serves you. Far superior is Ossie’s in Addiscombe. Brockley’s Rock isn’t as good (as Ossie’s) but is better than Jolly Bee’s for shore. Let minnow if you enjoyed the puns - trust me, they were better than the food. Definitely tried to make this post more exciting than the food.

Hungry after a long day and thought I'd give this place a try. Went to order a beef burger with cheese didn't have a beef burger or cheese, ended up with a chicken burger asked if I wanted salad, ask what they did reply was lettuce and onions.. No variety, or value for money. Save your time and go the weather spoons across the road. Will not go there ever again.

The fish and chip shop in Forest Hill is the Jolly bee it`s a popular chip shop it`s located on the London Rd, where you can easily pick up a bus or travel by train, talking about train Forest Hill train station, is situated also across the rd. The service there is excellent the day I was there I was with my daughter. And met two staffs Mecit and Valentin who were both serving at the time and who were friendly and welcoming Mecit who we spoke to was in his teens very polite and cheerful also I notice customers that came into the shop, he made them smile. He showed great customers service skills, a real little businessman. We made our order which included chip which was fried fresh while we waited also our fish just how we like it. And the chips were also cooked fresh for the other customers, who made an order for it. The portion sizes were just right. Myself and my daughter ended up eating there and we did enjoy it. Fresh fish and chips and a good service goes a long way. Sorry to say some of the chip shops I've been to, the chips are disgusting being re-fried or serve warm, tasting tough hard or with a horrid texture and greasy, I can't understand how some of these chip shops get away serving these things to customers and have the cheek to call it`s fresh and get away with it. With the Service, we received at the jolly bee we will definitely go back. Keep up the good work Mercit and Valentin.

Haven't had fish and chips for quite some time and last night ordered cod and chips from Jolly Bee. Chips were limp and some of them had hard bits in them. They looked like they were from old potatoes. Cod was a good size but lacked in taste. Plus side, staff were friendly. But I'm really looking for that seaside fish and chips experience in town. The search continues....

Fish and chips (indeed, takeaway fast food in general) can be a bit hit and miss, so I think this place deserves recognition for being consistently decent. I've lived in the area over three years now and have often got Friday night dinner from here. The portions are very generous (in fact I would actually counsel against getting a large cod and chips unless you're very hungry) and the fish is fresh and the chips cooked well. Precisely because the food is not kept stewing away all day, there's sometimes a bit of a delay while they cook more fish. The blokes who work behind the bar are friendly and have a zany sense of humour which, while I've seen it totally bemuse some customers, has become part of the appeal of the visit for me. There's only a couple of small tables so probably take the food away with you unless you fancy sitting next to an open door. A solid chippy providing a good service to the neighbourhood.

The Jolly Bee is a terrible excuse for a chip shop. The staff are rude and unhelpful. There is a great business opportunity for some to open a decent chippy in Forest Hill.
