My partner chose this restaurant for her birthday meal and we weren't disappointed. Yes it is slightly on the pricey side - £40 fillet steak - but the sides and other dishes were pretty reasonable . That said, we both agreed it was the best steak we've ever eaten, which is saying something. Great food and great service, will definitely be returning soon.

We had a great day over the Easter Half Term and considering how busy it was in the car park we managed to park with no trouble. It was busy inside but there was still plenty of room for everyone and we could still see all the animals easily and the children still played on the park without having to wait too long for turns on things. We had lunch at about 2ish and we didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. Another fantastic day out at Johnson's ☺️☺️

Another great day visiting this amazing place. It's so nice to see that they kept the animal encounters entrance prices fairly low compared to other zoos / animal parks. Also love shopping at their farm shop. Their big range of freshly made sausages and burgers are perfect for a bbq.. The Buffalo burgers are the best ☺️

Visited the zoo a few weeks ago and I was honestly disgusted by the lack of space that the animals had. There are 2 beautiful lions in a tiny pen… no stimulation in there for them. They looked so sad. The bear enclosure was also tiny and the poor thing was pacing looked very distressed. There were a number of owl enclosures which were also tiny. There’s an indoor part with crocodiles where you are walking around a platform up a height from them, there are barriers around which went up to my waist - and could very easily be climbed, no safety netting.. nothing. So a small child could very easily climb over and fall in to a pit of (far too many over crowded) crocodiles. It made me feel so anxious the entire way around and I just wanted to get my 3 year old out. If you love animals do not visit here, it left me feeling depressed leaving. Also - the farm shop kill the pigs that you go and lovingly feed 😑

Oh my days..... My other half had to roll me out after eating here.... And I only had a starter and a main!! It was very much a case of 'eyes bigger than my belly,' or in this case 'belly bigger than my eyes'.. The food was faultless, succulent and flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Looking forward to returning, to try other options from the menu. The only reason I have given 4 stars and not 5 is because, while we waited to be shown to our table, we were sat having a drink by the bar, but the seating looked out at others dining and this felt awkward... Such an amazing place to take the family.

Went with my family including grandson just before his second birthday. A very positive experience. Firstly, only £5 to get in. Not a huge collection of animals, but what there were, were good, including a pair of lions (male and female). A most amazing collection of alligators and crocodiles in a very well constructed building. A playground for the little 'uns. And one of the best farm shops I have encountered. We came away with a beef and ale pie from the butcher's section, and that turned out to be delicious. Access and parking was easy. I wholeheartedly recommend Johnson's of Old hurst, especially to families with young children.

Unfortunately it poured with rain as we arrived so we made a dart for the entrance where there was no wait to buy tickets. We have been previously a few years ago and so much has changed since. The tropical house has been extended and there are loads more reptiles to see. By the time we came out the rain had stopped but everything was very wet, it was nice however to have fairly clear walk ways along the animal enclosures so you don't get too muddy meaning we could still see the animals even though it was wet.

The entry prices are good value for money, you can't take food in however your hand will be stamped so you can go in and out of the zoo. Lots of exciting animals to see and didn't once feel too crowded at any point. I got a pasty from the farm shop and a burger from the BBQ stand, the pasty was delicious but the burger, wow oh wow, genuinely it was the best burger I have ever had, I can't recommend it enough! It's worth noting the BBQ stand can't cater for allergies. The only downside from my day out was the 1 toilet for men so had to queue for 5 mins. My nephew wanted to go to a farm or zoo and although he had a great time, I dont think it is fair to keep lions in a somewhat small enclosure, they looked bored and depressed, pacing up and down, with nothing stimulating around them at all. I've seen rescue lions look far more enriched and happy in sanctuarys. The crocodile enclosures for some looked very small too, what a depressing existence. The toilets were disgusting too. Didn't see the bear enclosure, but I can see others have commented it is no better than the other enclosures. These wild animals have no place being there, this farm/zoo clearly do not care for their well-being and it was hard to watch and left me feeling sad for them.

Been to Johnson’s very many times to cafe, farm shop and zoo and love it here, very much. BBQ’s in summer and themed days/Christmas markets etc well worth coming to. Yesterday we tried the steak house, with friends, for dinner. Cocktails were incredible, starter choices a bit disappointing as nothing fresh or particularly Johnson’s orientated. Had looked at menu on-line, before we came. but menu had changed (we all much preferred the original) - both husbands love a mixed grill and both wives love a fresh prawn cocktail starter, but both removed from menu. Mains, that came were, however, delicious. Pies were absolutely the best. Waitress was lovely - so polite. Setting/ambiance really lovely - a touch of class. Would we return - yes we would for sure.

I have never been up to lions so closely. So nice to see bears too as they seem to be a rarity now. All animals looked healthy. They have some lovely different animals here, some that you don’t see at normal zoos, skunks, dears, highland cows, emus and many more. On the second occasion we went to the restaurant around the back and this was AMAZING! Hand on heart, I think it’s the nicest place I have ever eaten. 8 of us turned up and the staff accommodate us even though we didn’t have a booked table. Sure! Here is the review text for you to copy: Johnson’s of Old Hurst steakhouse offers a unique and upscale dining experience in the countryside, where high-quality farm-to-table meat takes center stage. The atmosphere blends rustic charm with a touch of the unexpected, featuring a spacious, cozy interior and warm, friendly service. Parking is hassle-free with a dedicated lot, and while the menu is on the pricier side, the steak cuts—sourced directly from the farm’s own butchery—are exceptional, cooked precisely to order, and packed with flavor. The menu offers a variety of options, from premium steaks like fillet and sirloin to hearty Scotch eggs and venison dishes, ensuring something for everyone. Portion sizes are generous, and the farm-fresh ingredients make each dish worth savoring. If you’re feeling adventurous, the massive 32oz tomahawk steak is a showstopper meant for sharing. While a full meal with sides and drinks can add up quickly, the quality and atmosphere make it a worthwhile indulgence. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, and there’s no strict dress code, making it a great spot for both casual outings and special occasions. After your meal, you can explore the farm shop or simply enjoy the cozy ambiance before heading out. If you’re looking for a top-tier steakhouse experience in Cambridgeshire, Johnson’s of Old Hurst delivers on all fronts—great food, excellent service, and an unforgettable setting. Feel free to copy and use it however you’d like. Let me know if you need any tweaks!

Some great animals to see, who look well kept. Some sign posts around the zoo would help as its a little muddled in where to walk to see all the animals. There is a woodland walk, but we didn't see anything that stated how long the walk was or where it went. The tropical house was well done with many healthy looking species of camens. Apart from the shop and cafe staff, we didn't see any around the zoo, which would have helped with animal info etc. A pleasant little place to visit for a couple of hours. Great local place, but it was so ridiculously busy. I hope they are planning to improve their infrastructure. There are only 3 toilets for all the people using the tea room and all the people in the zoo. The zoo is extremely muddy, which is ok if you are prepared but it's not particularly accessible, we struggled to push the pushchair round. All the picnic benches, park, paths and toilets are caked in mud too, could do with better pathways and getting the jet wash out! The car park could do with a parking attendant on busy days, lots of people parking in unhelpful places which meant it was hard to get out. The BBQ was short staffed and the tea room had a queue out of the door. The facilities need to be updated to match the growing number of great attractions they have! Lovely animals and the food was good when we got some.

My partner and I LOVE a steak. We were looking forward to trying somewhere that is “known” for steak- a steakhouse. We love the idea of locally sourced meat. Unfortunately, we are a little disappointed. £7 for 3 Brie bites put on a white plate (no presentation) and £6 for honey and mustard sausages, which had hardly any honey or mustard on. Then we ordered the tomahawk and was very disappointed. It came out rare as we asked, but again lacking presentation. The steak should have come “prepared” so it can be eaten and shared. It was so hard to cut with the steak knives they provided- that in conjunction with a very rickerty table left us with a bit of a work out. The steak was poorly seasoned so we had to add salt ourselves. The steak was nice. That’s as far as I would go, I’ve had much better and for a better price. Sad to have left feeling disappointed.

Went to Johnson’s for my 34th birthday day out and boy that was a good choice! We had the tomahawk steak and honestly, that’s one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted! Freshness guaranteed because they raise and butcher their own cattle. Farm to fork, I was told! The place is also very traditional English with a nice little zoo where animals seem to be healthy and happy. We even caught capybaras having sex but breeding and conservation is always a good thing! I noticed that their shop features a lot of their own produce and products, there’s also a lot of local goods from other towns. Finally, I want to say how good the staff are! I felt welcomed right at the beginning. Everyone at the steakhouse was so sweet when they found out it was my birthday. For more details, please check my vlog on YouTube - Dean Villarante. Visited there for lunch today. The Steak House. Food good, portions ample. Staff were polite, friendly, and attentive. Unfortunately, one of us didn't get served their lunch, apparently due to the electronic ordering system not doing its job properly 🤦‍♀️ So had to wait for the 'Smoked Burger' to be cooked. But ok, when it arrived, served by the apologetic chef. Apologies all round from the staff, but no free tea/coffee or discount offered. Which would have been a nice apology. They offer afternoon tea. Which looked really good, so that is going on our afternoon tea list! After lunch, we visited the farm shop. What a revelation! The variety of products on offer were very extensive. As per all farm shops the goods cost a little more than your average supermarket. But knowing the fresh green grocery is local and the quality is great. The standard of the fresh meat choices was superb. 20+ choices of sausages! Plus, gluten-free, which were stored well away from any of the cereal based products. So, there is no cross-contamination. You can even buy locally baked breads and cakes! The cafè looked very busy, and the outside seating area looked good for warmer days. The zoo was not on our agenda. But maybe a visit to the zoo and cafè in the warmer months could be interesting.

This was a brilliant place. It was a sunny but cold day in January and nothing was open. We really wanted a day out and my mum suggested this to us on a whim, but what a great suggestion. We had a blast of a day. It's incredibly reasonable! £5 each and 3 and unders go free, so our son cost nothing. They have a good variety of animals granted some were not overly enthusiastic as it was bloody cold. But there was quite a bit to do, including the crocodiles, wow so many, then meerkats, lions etc, and we were so lucky to choose the day to go when they were giving free tractor rides to another part of the farm. There is an amazing farm shop there with everything from meat and cheese to general niknaks. The cafe does lovely food, average priced, but when it's so cheap to get in, you can hardly complain. Just very busy to get a seat indoors, but in the warmer weather there is plenty of outside seating also. Oh and cant remember the kids play area with slides, swings and other bits and bobs. All in all a good 5 hours day out for us as a family of 3 cost us only £30. Would 100% recommend and return!

yes it’s cheap to enter, yes it’s a day out for you and the kids if you really can’t think of anything else to do, but I won’t visit again. The car park is impossible, you will be waiting 20 minutes for a space. The main reason I rate low and won’t be visiting again is due to the welfare concerns I have for the animals. There is little to no enrichment for the lions or bears, these are large animals with instincts and natural behaviours that require mental stimulation, but all they get is a small space and some logs, even the kids park is bigger than their environment. It looks like a prison for them. With the pacing I saw, the desperation to hide from being stressed by so many viewers, no educated and respected conservationist would agree with the lifestyle these animals have.

Lovely place, my daughter & her partner took her 18 month old and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Clean, well kept, happy animals. The nature walk was beautiful too.

It was an incredible time. Definitely a place to take your children to. It is animal friendly and has a park for your kids and pets to play in. The animals were beautiful and lively. The park is really big and has many varieties of animals. You would not regret going. Especially to the reptile house!

This is a firm family favourite with our daughter. She loves visiting the farm and we've enjoyed lots of lovely meals at the steak house (especially the carvery). We've recommended it to family and friends who have also shared positive experiences as well.

Drive through Pidley and you're there, but blink and you'll miss it! There were absolutely no signposts on our way up and thank goodness for the sat nav. We very nearly missed it as the entrance signage really isn't that noticeable and no way would you think there were lions and salt water crocs behind the farm shop! What a super little place,a pure fluke of a fine. Coming from Suffolk with Jimmy's Farm and Polar Bears on the doorstep we never imagined we'd find a Huntingdon version of the Farm Shop/ Zoo. Also the food in the cafe lived up to it's beginnings . It's a cheap £5 entry into a magic world like a TARDIS.Lions, bobcats, pumas, salt water crocs, stuff I've never seen outside of a huge zoo. What a great place and again room for kiddies. The alligator/ croc tropical house is huge and gives you a treetops view over the ponds. Already booked to revisit in July when it's a bit warmer.Just get in the car and go.

Me and the wife often come to Cafe and farm shop, staff are always friendly and helpful, I've never done the zoo part (first born pending) but there's always lots of families and smiles so would definitely recommend. We've dined a fair bit in the restaurant and always enjoyed our experience - whether it's an evening out or a day trip out with the family, you'll love to visit and come back for more!

The fact that this place keeps animals in captivity for entertainment, and butchers some of the breeds to sell in their own butchers shop, speaks volumes of their attitude towards animals.

I cannot fault the excellent service from your butchers. Each year for the festive season I place an order for Salt Beef which is one of my favourite cold meats for Boxing Day and makes it my favourite meal of the year. The cut is brined and prepared ready to soak and cook. Most local butchers do not seem to know about this product and, unlike Johnson's, they are not interested in supplying it. Johnson's have never let me down. I am never disappointed with their products or service.Keep up the good work.I recommend this butcher to all.

Really nice place for kids and adults. We went on Sunday and got there about 10:30 am. Staff is very friendly and informative - we've been told a baby goat was born a day before and my 9 year old was literally jumping with excitement. A good sized box of deer/goat/ donkey/ rabbit food costs £2 only and it's really worth getting as kids really enjoy feeding animals.Terrarium is amazing and helped us to keep warm when we felt too cold🤣 We had lots of fun and spent there longer than intended 😀 It's rather quiet in the morning and gets super busy at around 12 -2pm so if you have SEND children plan accordingly. From the adult point of view: 1) layers of clothing and sturdy footwear in autumn and winter ( wellingtons and waterproofs highly recommended). 2) If you arrive early on chilly days be aware that some animals won't be getting out till it will get bit warmer ( I can't blame them 😀). So have patience and try to revisit enclosure where you didn't see an animal. 3) if you plan to have dinner in the Cafe check the menu beforehand as not everyone counts sandwich as food. No offense but that wasn't my cup of tea. Hot drinks are available of course and farm shop is amazing.4) if you bring your pet dog with you beware that lions most likely will try to hunt them - dogs don't find it funny at all and may get distressed. 5) playground is sturdy and suitable for multiple ages just in muddy days be ready for muddy clothes ( reference to the waterproof clothing).6) the deer enclosure isn't accessible from inside the park. Easier to get a glimpse from the car park end. However they're not interested in humans at all and keep deep inside. There's a young deer in the goat enclosure where kids can feed it the special food purchased at the entrance. We will be back definately - with wellington boots of course. I'm thinking spring time when most of animals have their little ones.

Not sure what’s happened to this place as we have been a good amount of times but today was the worst. Don’t get me wrong the food was ok, steak was cooked nicely but presentation of food could be better. My main complaint tonight was the service, don’t once during our visit did a member of staff come to our table without being beckoned. Had to ask to order a drink, 20 minutes later no drink had to chase it twice! Started arrived before my drink. Service is painfully slow and I know I’m not in for attentive service when I get stuck on a table in a corner. Sort it out guys because you can cook a steak for sure but the front of house have to have their heads up!
