Good coffee, good cake, quick service and crocodiles. What more could one want? September 2022 - nice location, staff where are friendly and helpful, cake and coffee was good but fell short of being great. The prices were reasonable. I would be happy to return. March 2025 - same, although one has to pay to view the crocks (and other animals).

This zoological garden is perfect for a day out with kids. Plenty of parking but would recommend getting there early as the car park does fill up quickly. The entry prices are good value for money, you can't take food in however your hand will be stamped so you can go in and out of the zoo. Lots of exciting animals to see and didn't once feel too crowded at any point. I got a pasty from the farm shop and a burger from the BBQ stand, the pasty was delicious but the burger, wow oh wow, genuinely it was the best burger I have ever had, I can't recommend it enough! It's worth noting the BBQ stand can't cater for allergies. The only downside from my day out was the 1 toilet for men so had to queue for 5 mins. Overall we had an amazing day, really good value for money and lots of delicious food on offer, will definitely be going again.

Excellent for a few hours out the house. Time it right to get a parking space. They need to sort the toilet drainage out though, busy days it literally lifts the drain cover and floods sewage all around the cafe and garden.

My nephew wanted to go to a farm or zoo and although he had a great time, I dont think it is fair to keep lions in a somewhat small enclosure, they looked bored and depressed, pacing up and down, with nothing stimulating around them at all. I've seen rescue lions look far more enriched and happy in sanctuarys. The crocodile enclosures for some looked very small too, what a depressing existence. The toilets were disgusting too. Didn't see the bear enclosure, but I can see others have commented it is no better than the other enclosures. These wild animals have no place being there, this farm/zoo clearly do not care for their well-being and it was hard to watch and left me feeling sad for them.

We had a fantastic time at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire! The zoo is home to a wonderful variety of animals clearly well looked after and loved. The farm’s steakhouse was high-quality with meat sourced straight from their own butchery. The food was excellent, and the team were incredibly friendly and attentive. Overall, a perfect mix of wildlife, nature, and great food—highly recommend a visit!

We have visited here twice now and it’s fantastic. The price is amazing (I really hope this doesn’t change dramatically) and it’s a lovely little zoo. Such an impressive crocodile house. I have never been up to lions so closely. So nice to see bears too as they seem to be a rarity now. All animals looked healthy. They have some lovely different animals here, some that you don’t see at normal zoos, skunks, dears, highland cows, emus and many more. On the second occasion we went to the restaurant around the back and this was AMAZING! Hand on heart, I think it’s the nicest place I have ever eaten. 8 of us turned up and the staff accommodate us even though we didn’t have a booked table. All of us said the food was amazing, even the children. All completely empty plates. Will definitely be going back.

Sure! Here is the review text for you to copy: Johnson’s of Old Hurst steakhouse offers a unique and upscale dining experience in the countryside, where high-quality farm-to-table meat takes center stage. The atmosphere blends rustic charm with a touch of the unexpected, featuring a spacious, cozy interior and warm, friendly service. Parking is hassle-free with a dedicated lot, and while the menu is on the pricier side, the steak cuts—sourced directly from the farm’s own butchery—are exceptional, cooked precisely to order, and packed with flavor. The menu offers a variety of options, from premium steaks like fillet and sirloin to hearty Scotch eggs and venison dishes, ensuring something for everyone. Portion sizes are generous, and the farm-fresh ingredients make each dish worth savoring. If you’re feeling adventurous, the massive 32oz tomahawk steak is a showstopper meant for sharing. While a full meal with sides and drinks can add up quickly, the quality and atmosphere make it a worthwhile indulgence. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, and there’s no strict dress code, making it a great spot for both casual outings and special occasions. After your meal, you can explore the farm shop or simply enjoy the cozy ambiance before heading out. If you’re looking for a top-tier steakhouse experience in Cambridgeshire, Johnson’s of Old Hurst delivers on all fronts—great food, excellent service, and an unforgettable setting. Feel free to copy and use it however you’d like. Let me know if you need any tweaks!

Some great animals to see, who look well kept. Some sign posts around the zoo would help as its a little muddled in where to walk to see all the animals. There is a woodland walk, but we didn't see anything that stated how long the walk was or where it went. The tropical house was well done with many healthy looking species of camens. Apart from the shop and cafe staff, we didn't see any around the zoo, which would have helped with animal info etc. A pleasant little place to visit for a couple of hours. Our visit was in February, so quite a lot of wet muddy areas.

Great local place, but it was so ridiculously busy. I hope they are planning to improve their infrastructure. There are only 3 toilets for all the people using the tea room and all the people in the zoo. The zoo is extremely muddy, which is ok if you are prepared but it's not particularly accessible, we struggled to push the pushchair round. All the picnic benches, park, paths and toilets are caked in mud too, could do with better pathways and getting the jet wash out! The car park could do with a parking attendant on busy days, lots of people parking in unhelpful places which meant it was hard to get out. The BBQ was short staffed and the tea room had a queue out of the door. The facilities need to be updated to match the growing number of great attractions they have! Lovely animals and the food was good when we got some.

My partner and I LOVE a steak. We were looking forward to trying somewhere that is “known” for steak- a steakhouse. We love the idea of locally sourced meat. Unfortunately, we are a little disappointed. £7 for 3 Brie bites put on a white plate (no presentation) and £6 for honey and mustard sausages, which had hardly any honey or mustard on. Then we ordered the tomahawk and was very disappointed. It came out rare as we asked, but again lacking presentation. The steak should have come “prepared” so it can be eaten and shared. It was so hard to cut with the steak knives they provided- that in conjunction with a very rickerty table left us with a bit of a work out. The steak was poorly seasoned so we had to add salt ourselves. The steak was nice. That’s as far as I would go, I’ve had much better and for a better price. Sad to have left feeling disappointed.

Felt really sorry for the lions they hardly had any space and certainly no place to hide from all the visitors. It’s a shame really beautiful animals just caged up. The food might be nice but not recommend for the kids. They can’t even serve soup unless it’s after 12pm and there’s quite a wait for the food. I think the rest was lovely, other animals seemed happy, farm animals were great so were the crocodiles. Please consider giving the Lions more space and things to do!

Went to Johnson’s for my 34th birthday day out and boy that was a good choice! We had the tomahawk steak and honestly, that’s one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted! Freshness guaranteed because they raise and butcher their own cattle. Farm to fork, I was told! The place is also very traditional English with a nice little zoo where animals seem to be healthy and happy. We even caught capybaras having sex but breeding and conservation is always a good thing! I noticed that their shop features a lot of their own produce and products, there’s also a lot of local goods from other towns. Finally, I want to say how good the staff are! I felt welcomed right at the beginning. Everyone at the steakhouse was so sweet when they found out it was my birthday. For more details, please check my vlog on YouTube - Dean Villarante. Hope to meet the owners next time (or the steakhouse chef) to personally tell them how I enjoyed my visit. I highly recommend and we’re already planning another visit! ❤️❤️❤️

Visited there for lunch today. The Steak House. Food good, portions ample. Staff were polite, friendly, and attentive. Unfortunately, one of us didn't get served their lunch, apparently due to the electronic ordering system not doing its job properly 🤦♀️ So had to wait for the 'Smoked Burger' to be cooked. But ok, when it arrived, served by the apologetic chef. Apologies all round from the staff, but no free tea/coffee or discount offered. Which would have been a nice apology. They offer afternoon tea. Which looked really good, so that is going on our afternoon tea list! After lunch, we visited the farm shop. What a revelation! The variety of products on offer were very extensive. As per all farm shops the goods cost a little more than your average supermarket. But knowing the fresh green grocery is local and the quality is great. The standard of the fresh meat choices was superb. 20+ choices of sausages! Plus, gluten-free, which were stored well away from any of the cereal based products. So, there is no cross-contamination. You can even buy locally baked breads and cakes! The cafè looked very busy, and the outside seating area looked good for warmer days. The zoo was not on our agenda. But maybe a visit to the zoo and cafè in the warmer months could be interesting.

This was a brilliant place. It was a sunny but cold day in January and nothing was open. We really wanted a day out and my mum suggested this to us on a whim, but what a great suggestion. We had a blast of a day. It's incredibly reasonable! £5 each and 3 and unders go free, so our son cost nothing. They have a good variety of animals granted some were not overly enthusiastic as it was bloody cold. But there was quite a bit to do, including the crocodiles, wow so many, then meerkats, lions etc, and we were so lucky to choose the day to go when they were giving free tractor rides to another part of the farm. There is an amazing farm shop there with everything from meat and cheese to general niknaks. The cafe does lovely food, average priced, but when it's so cheap to get in, you can hardly complain. Just very busy to get a seat indoors, but in the warmer weather there is plenty of outside seating also. Oh and cant remember the kids play area with slides, swings and other bits and bobs. All in all a good 5 hours day out for us as a family of 3 cost us only £30. Would 100% recommend and return!

yes it’s cheap to enter, yes it’s a day out for you and the kids if you really can’t think of anything else to do, but I won’t visit again. The car park is impossible, you will be waiting 20 minutes for a space. The main reason I rate low and won’t be visiting again is due to the welfare concerns I have for the animals. There is little to no enrichment for the lions or bears, these are large animals with instincts and natural behaviours that require mental stimulation, but all they get is a small space and some logs, even the kids park is bigger than their environment. It looks like a prison for them. With the pacing I saw, the desperation to hide from being stressed by so many viewers, no educated and respected conservationist would agree with the lifestyle these animals have.

We very nearly missed it as the entrance signage really isn't that noticeable and no way would you think there were lions and salt water crocs behind the farm shop! What a super little place,a pure fluke of a fine. Coming from Suffolk with Jimmy's Farm and Polar Bears on the doorstep we never imagined we'd find a Huntingdon version of the Farm Shop/ Zoo. Also the food in the cafe lived up to it's beginnings . It's a cheap £5 entry into a magic world like a TARDIS.Lions, bobcats, pumas, salt water crocs, stuff I've never seen outside of a huge zoo. What a great place and again room for kiddies. The alligator/ croc tropical house is huge and gives you a treetops view over the ponds. Really nice place for kids and adults. We went on Sunday and got there about 10:30 am. Staff is very friendly and informative - we've been told a baby goat was born a day before and my 9 year old was literally jumping with excitement. A good sized box of deer/goat/ donkey/ rabbit food costs £2 only and it's really worth getting as kids really enjoy feeding animals.Terrarium is amazing and helped us to keep warm when we felt too cold🤣 We had lots of fun and spent there longer than intended 😀 It's rather quiet in the morning and gets super busy at around 12 -2pm so if you have SEND children plan accordingly. From the adult point of view: 1) layers of clothing and sturdy footwear in autumn and winter ( wellingtons and waterproofs highly recommended). 2) If you arrive early on chilly days be aware that some animals won't be getting out till it will get bit warmer ( I can't blame them 😀). So have patience and try to revisit enclosure where you didn't see an animal. 3) if you plan to have dinner in the Cafe check the menu beforehand as not everyone counts sandwich as food. No offense but that wasn't my cup of tea. Hot drinks are available of course and farm shop is amazing.4) if you bring your pet dog with you beware that lions most likely will try to hunt them - dogs don't find it funny at all and may get distressed. 5) playground is sturdy and suitable for multiple ages just in muddy days be ready for muddy clothes ( reference to the waterproof clothing).6) the deer enclosure isn't accessible from inside the park. Easier to get a glimpse from the car park end. However they're not interested in humans at all and keep deep inside. There's a young deer in the goat enclosure where kids can feed it the special food purchased at the entrance. We will be back definately - with wellington boots of course. I'm thinking spring time when most of animals have their little ones.

Not sure what’s happened to this place as we have been a good amount of times but today was the worst. Don’t get me wrong the food was ok, steak was cooked nicely but presentation of food could be better. My main complaint tonight was the service, don’t once during our visit did a member of staff come to our table without being beckoned. Had to ask to order a drink, 20 minutes later no drink had to chase it twice! Started arrived before my drink. Service is painfully slow and I know I’m not in for attentive service when I get stuck on a table in a corner. Sort it out guys because you can cook a steak for sure but the front of house have to have their heads up!

When your three year old gets offered sweets by the Witch in the woods, she will snap the jar shut and make them cry.... it's ok though... she will direct you to the sweet shop down the road which charges you £3 for a lolly. 🎃 However the whole place itself is great but just a few things people should be aware of this Halloween school half term

So just visited for this years Halloween event which last year was fantastic, lots of live actors and interactions. This year, next to nothing. I was bitterly disappointed and honeslty it wasn't worth the entrance fees. The only plus side was the lions were out and the tropical house open.

It is an amazing place to spend the day with the family! Kids loved all the different animals. Food was outstanding in the steak house. Staff are very helpful in the farm shop. The range of sausages at the butchers was a personal highlight. In fact, all of the meat on display was exceptional!

What an oustanding establishment/ hidden gem We were away for a family weekend, so the 15x of us decided on a day trip for the kids. So glad that we picked Johnsons Zoo and Farm. The zoo and animals were well kept and active. The Steak house was 10/10 (cant wait for an excuse to go back) and the ladies in the Tea Room saved the day when my daughter caught a small splinter in her thumb, the manager was amazing at calming her down and removing the splinter and the complimentary chocolate cake was extremely well received and topped the day off for my daughter. We cant thank you enough. The farm shop and butchers were top top and the duck from the butchers was to die for so thanks again. Highly recommend this place for anyone.

Found this place by chance and so glad I did. It's an amazing place, nice variety of animals, which all looked well looked after, my Granddaughter had a lovely time looking around and playing on the outdoor play area, can't wait to go back with my Grandson when he's a bit older.

Disappointing food. I took my family out for a treat on Saturday 12th October, and we were very disappointed. We ordered some food: the burger and chips were okay, but the salad that came with it was off and not fresh!!! You can see rotten leaves in the photo attached. The salad was left to one side. We ordered some slices of cake, and they were not nice cakes. The worst was the chocolate cake which was nothing like chocolate cake at all; it was very heavy and just tasted of sugar and dough. We paid £ 4.25 per slice. We came away feeling like it was a waste of money and vowed never to eat there again. Shame really as it was our first time to visit and we have high expectations.

Lovely small zoo; animals look very healthy and comfortable. Huge range of crocs, gators and other reptiles. Lots of staff around caring for animals. Plenty of room for kids to run around and burn energy and a nice playground. Staff in cafe were also a delight. They alone would make me return. Plus a good farm shop and first rate butchers. Well worth a visit

Popped in here for our dinner one evening, it had been a long time since I was here but I have heard good recommendations about this chippy, so we thought have a try. Ordered our dinner to takeaway, which turned out to be very expensive and sat and waited and waited and waited. My wait was over 20mins which is excessive considering there were only a man and lady (partner) in front of me. I was annoyed that a lady came in 10mins after me, ordered 4x what I did yet her order was prepared before mine and who then left with her family dinner and then it appears that my dinner was cooked. Not great service from a chippy that has outstanding reviews. That said, the fish was delicious but dry and hard on the ends and the chips cooked to perfection. We will pay another visit just to see if the waiting time has improved and the hard and chewy part of the fish is better.

Sunday dinner time. Had a carvery but not as good as it used to be to be. Gravy very thin and tasteless. Meat and veg was ok but for me tasted very bland. My son’s meal he ordered took ages and he ultimately had to go and ask for his burger that wasn’t very good. Lasagna was also not very good. Maybe the Asian style cuisine served on other days is a better bet as the reviews seem to suggest this is good.

Just stumbled apon this pub and it was pub and wasn’t disappointed! It was great to see a pub serving ‘proper pies’. Amazing food and service, I’ll be back soon! Thanks again everyone at the black bull.
