First visit, although the family use it as a regular. Nice friendly staff and the tables were not cramped. Will certainly go again. The proof, I think, was the fact that for a Saturday lunchtime it was packed. We booked in advance

What a lovely Saturday afternoon surprise, from the minute we entered, staff were so friendly and welcoming, we chose starters only as it was at 4pm. My partner had the chilli Beef, which is the best I've tasted and I went for the soup after recovering from illness, I was not disappointed it was packed with favour, rooted vegetable with pesto, a fab twist to the soup. I'm a real foody and love being in the kitchen rustling up alsorts of dishes so going out to eat is hard as you want to eat something you don't always cook yourself. The chef clearly has a true pasion for flavours. I enjoyed everything about this pub and cannot believe we don't go there, living so close, it's a new place to go for me. Thank you The Black Bull.

Walked in hoping to eat, which after checking with the kitchen, and having an open table, I was able to stay. It seems like most places take reservations, even on weekdays. The girl behind the bar was very nice and seated him and checked back often on if we needed anything. The food was very good. I would love to return during the summer when all the outside seating is open.

We ate here the other night as a group of friends. One was coming from Sheffield and got waylaid on the journey. The staff were very generous to wait an hour and a half before we ordered, even though the kitchen was due to close, and we all enjoyed a delicious meal together plus some desserts. Absolutely incredible patience and service.

Finding ourselves in Brampton at lunchtime and having heard good things about the Black Bull food offerings, we decided to make an unscheduled stop for lunch. Getting a table on a wet miserable Tuesday afternoon was not a problem. Service was quick and friendly and I had the scallops with black pudding and a beetroot sauce which was excellent. My wife had prawns which were also excellent, if not a little messy to eat. This was followed by Chicken Supreme for my wife which came with fondant potato a confit chicken lollipop, carrots and a pancetta and wild mushroom sauce. All absolutely delicious . I had a chicken Thai green curry which came with prawn crackers and a mini nan bread. It was nice but a bit heavy with mange tout and lacking in much flavour. I was expecting a citrussy lemon grass coconut milk broth with a hit of chilli spice but was a little under whelmed by its blandness. If you like your Thai curries with a bit of spice, I wouldn't recommend the Black Bull's version. Overall, we had a very pleasant lunch and would definitely return but not for the Thai curry.

Just had lunch on our journey from Leeds to Essex. Although the pub had just opened our order was taken quickly and the food was delivered within 10 minutes. We both had scampi and chips which came with a lovely salad. Perfect for us. All the staff including the chef were terrific. We look forward to visiting again.

Alway very nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. It is a very busy pub, especially in the summer. Pub has a massive garden with lots of seating. Some days in a summer, there is live music. The building is very old and quirky, which gives very nice vibes. The booking of the table is recommended as it is quite a small pub and it is always busy. Parking can be limited. The food is really, really good and very delicious. I keep coming back there and I always receive top service. Definitely recommend trying their burgers, and desserts are very delicious too, sunday roast is very nice too. Portions are very big and filling.

Lovely place for a spot of lunch. We had the pie of the day, which was steak, it was beautiful. My only gripe was it was to come with seasonal vegetables, there was runner beans, and tomatoes, on the vine, with gravy. It didn't work for me, the mash, pie, gravy and beans were delicious. Staff friendly. Have eaten there many times, normally for a roast on a sunday. Proper home cooked meal. Highly recommend

Popped in for a drink after a long walk with the dogs, pub was packed, no problem we sat outside and they arranged table service, as always above and beyond! Highly recommend

Enjoyed a absolutely gorgeous full English breakfast here. Really Fresh, in fact prob the best breakfast around and very reasonable. Service was nice, very pleasant. when we went it was empty, but a nice place to come, will definitely recommend and visit again

All of us called in for lunch expecting that we could have baguette,chips etc,like we have done in the past on a Saturday,but we’re informed that we couldn’t have thattoday and had to choose from the lunch menu . Not very good for a local pub.

Went here for lunch after a walk with family, it being halfway between us. The food was delicious, very hot and plentiful. The menu is wide ranging and caters for all tastes. A bit of a wait for the food but it was so tasty that we were happy to have waited. Atmosphere is cosy and friendly staff ... we'll be returning sometime soon.

Lovely place for our Christmas meal, nice atmosphere, very attentive staff would recommend. Dropped one star because Yorkshire pudding was inedible but everything else served up was amazing and presentation was superb. Would definitely go back.

Wow, what a cracking place to eat!! Half way between us and friends, we met at this cosy village pub, and found plenty of parking, and a really friendly welcome from the staff. The menu was filled with things we wanted to try so we eventually settled on starters of crispy chilli beef, calamari and halloumi fries (table of four!) The crispy chilli beef was better than we’ve ever experienced, the calamari was well cooked and the halloumi was great and plenty of it. Mains ranged from Beef Bourginon, Burgers and a home made Pie. All were scrumptious and got devoured. Having said we wouldn’t have a sweet, we all crumbled showing no self discipline and had waffles, a poached pear and lemon meringue pie. The food was so good, we complimented the team and were not surprised to hear how the food is locally sourced and cooked fresh each day. This is restaurant food served in a pub. The service and welcome is better than many places we ve been to, and you can tell they take a real pride in what they do. We ‘ve already booked to go back for a Sunday roast in the New Year. Added to our favourites!!

Christmas get together with friends. Couldn’t have received a warmer welcome from the staff. Our waitress Sheena was absolutely amazing. She made us feel so relaxed and could not have been more helpful. A real asset. The food choices were so good it was difficult to make our minds up. Will definitely be returning and recommending to others.

Had lunch last Friday with my parents. Both elderly and mum in a wheelchair. The Black Bill could not have been more helpful as we had forgotten to book. Excellent service and food was all delicious. The staff were very welcoming. We definitely will be back and will book well in advance.

Great Xmas meal at The Black Bull last night. Could not believe the portion size. There was three big parties in and the food was consistent and very good. Well worth the money.

Excellent food and 5🌟 service. Thoroughly enjoyed my mixed grill. Others in our party of eight had various selections from the menu - the Burgers were popular - along with Beef Burginion, Ham egg and chips, Lamb etc. All plates finished! Shame it's so far for us to get to (3 hours), otherwise would be a regular. 🙂👍

What a brilliant place! The Black Bull accommodated eight of us for Sunday brunch at short notice when we were let down by another restaurant in the village. Friendly, efficient and helpful staff and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely pub in Huntingdon. Great back patio and really good food. Service is a bit slow but I think Americans like myself are a bit spoiled in our expectations. Ambulance is wonderful too. There was even a bouncy castle set up in the back garden for the kiddos.

We took some friends to the “Bull” on a very warm Saturday night. We didn’t realise at the time of booking that there would be a Queen tribute band on at the time and the pub would be mega busy! However, we were looked after impeccably, the food was great and the music added to the enjoyment. We all had a great evening, thank you!

Was in the area visiting friends. We went to the Black Bull in Brampton for an afternoon "Aspall cinema" event that was held in a teepee in the pub garden. Great atmosphere. Afterwards, we stayed for dinner. The salmon linguine and fillet steak were amazing ! Great beer selection too. We enjoyed the meal so much, we decided to return for the Sunday Roast. We weren't disappointed. Will definitely return when I back in the area!

First time visitor to his pub even though I have lived in the area for over 40 years. The calamari and crispy beef starters were superb. We had the blue cheese burger and a small sausage and mash with onion gravy for mains. I needed a smaller mains portion so the smaller lunch portion in a bowl was just right with creamy mash and a brilliant onion gravy. I found the expresso coffee to have some “grits” in it and the monager came to see me with a second one for feedback as he was concerned that the coffee machine was not set up correctly. It was great that the management were open to direct feedback, and the minor issue over the coffee didn’t stop me from leaving a tip for the great food and great service. Thank you.

Great pub. Massive outdoor beer garden with separate outdoor bar and toilets. Loads of picnic benches available. Foods a bit pricey but great quality

Great staff but not the food. Having moved into the area and passed and seem a nice garden area and a tidy frontage. We decided on a Wednesday evening to give the restaurant a try prior to bringing some friends who where going to visit us soon. Greeted by a very pleasant lady at the bar. We order a bottle of Rose wine and menus . My wife ordered the scampi and Fries, I ordered the Sea Bass which I asked for vegetables and fries not the Italian side Dish. My wife food was nice and presented quite well. My sea bass was over cooked and practically impossible to take the skin plus a couple of bones, the broccoli was cold with a few peas added. We gave the desserts a miss. Sorry but not good enough for the effort put into the rest of the building. Please management pay attention to your food.

This pub has changed a lot since the new owners took over. They have gone to a lot of effort to make the place warm and inviting, with lots of events etc, its a very social venue. We had also been hearing very good reports regarding the food. We had called in for lunchtime drinks on several occasions, and have always enjoyed the beer garden. So we decided pop in and have Sunday lunch. As always, the place was very busy, the food going to the tables looked amazing! We both ordered the Roast lamb Sunday lunch, the food arrived quite quickly and was very tasty and reasonably priced. Add to that, the great service and friendly staff, I would definitely recommend you pay a visit to the Black Bull. :0)

Visited the Black Bull today after reserving lunch at Willows cafe but we soon found out they stopped serving hot meals in April so needed to find somewhere quickly for our party of 3 and stumbled upon the Black bull a real gem to be honest, large car park and huge beer garden and lovely patio., we ordered drinks and was given some menus including todays special menu, the special menu seem very overpriced and not that interesting but I guess that’s a personal view point. Decided upon the Royal Blue burger that comes with chips and coleslaw and a selection of sauces presented on a wooden chopping board. Service was very slow and the waitress did forget to come back a few times but in fairness it was her first day and she was learning the ropes so clearly that can be forgiven . The burger tasted lovely and cooked to perfection ( congratulations to the chef) for dessert I went with the fruit crumble and it was probably the nicest crumble I have ever tasted. I wanted to give five stars but the reason I took one star off is not because of the slow service but the male waiter/bar staff smoking on the patio in front of guests, I’m a smoker myself so smoking does not bother me however I feel it’s unprofessional to be smoking in front of customers especially in a food environment where you are the one bringing food to customers, this is just constructive feedback and not looking to get the young guy in trouble. Will definitely return again for a meal and look forward to tasting more from the menu.

We arrived on Wednesday evening without a booking but chanced our arm and I’m so glad we did! Staff were superb - friendly, attentive, and extremely helpful and communicated clearly upon arrival that there maybe a wait for food. The staff gave the impression nothing...

My wife and I went to the Black Bull today for lunch for the first time.....Well what word can one use other than exceptional. The food freshly prepared was quality, my wife who is celiac and very sensitive to gluten never had a problem, the waiter (Michael) was very attentive and well mannered so all in all a lovely experience.....A nice pint of beer as well....Will definitely be returning not only for the quality of the food but also for an establishment that understands gluten free and CROSS contamination......Thanks guys.

Stopped here for lunch whilst travelling up the A1. First thing we noticed was the very large beer garden. We actually sat inside and were shown to a table for 2. Both ordered pies, which I can highly recommend. Service was good and food good...

AMAZING! Last week we went to the Black Bull at Godmanchester, and this week we went to the Black Bull at Brampton - what a complete difference! Our experience at the Black Bull at Godmanchester was nothing short of terrible - the Black Bull at Brampton was everything we hoped and more, blew us away and exceeded our expectations. The waiting staff were an absolute delight, efficient, attentive, the food was out of this world and the presentation was amazing. One of the owners, Michael, came and ensured that everything was brilliant and the ambience was nothing short of welcoming and lovely - thank you to Michael and the staff, you were all wonderful. It was such a pleasant experience and no amount of words can summarise how amazing it was. The best restaurant we have been to in years and would definitely recommend! We will 100% be returning. Restaurant was so busy (not surprising given how superb the restaurant is), so would recommend to book in advance. Also lovely to see dog friendly, it has a beautiful garden area as well so would be great to go in the summer.
