John's House Restaurant in Rushcliffe

It was a meal of a lifetime for us and absolutely sensational! My only slight disappointment was that we had no room for cheese at the end. We decided to try both wine selections: one opting for the cellar wine pairing, and the other for the standard wine pairing. Both were fantastic and included a creative selection, featuring Lebanese and Estonian wines I had never tried before, as well as an ice cider from Quebec, Canada. Every dish was presented in its own unique way and was a delight on its own. Thanks so much to everyone for making our evening special!

We have been lucky enough to visit Johns for both lunch & dinner in the last few weeks. Lunch is exceptionally good value with 3 fabulous courses for £49 plus snacks before & amazing madeleines with coffee. 7 course dinner at £120 is a pricey treat- every course amazing - snacks before and delightful sweet treats with coffee - with a drink before & wine our bill was £364 for 2. In addition the cheese course at a price of £18.50 for the table is incredible value. We know we are always in for an exceptional experience at Johns.

What can I say? We are still talking about how wonderful the whole experience was and how much work must have gone into preparing the food. Everything was excellent and the wine pairing was amazing. If I try really hard to find something wrong then I would say that there were a lot of fish dishes on the menu that night; but I like fish so it wasn’t a problem!

A birthday treat. Exceptional food - really outstanding as you would expect and just perfect. Service spot on. Thank you.

Pleasantly surprised. Unpretentious and on the whole staff (especially the youngsters) were an absolute pleasure and a credit to their elders. Food imaginative and bread rolls and butter to die for! Favourite course was the starter but none disappointed. Well deserved star 🌟 👏

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch at John's House in August, having received gift vouchers as our wedding present - our friends know this is our favourite celebration restaurant. From the moment you are seated in the lounge with menus, drinks and amuse bouche, the whole dining experience is superb. We opted for the 3 Couse lunch, which at just under £50 seems excellent value. The home grown heritage tomato salad was fresh, zingy and perfectly presented. The pork was delicious, complete with crisp crackling. I loved the white chocolate dessert too. We supplemented our menu with the palate cleansing Blackcurrent pre-dessert, sublime, and my favourite, the cheeseboard. The choice 6 out of 15 British cheeses was very indulgent and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was impressive, the presentation outstanding, and the young team exceptional. John's House offers the perfect dining experience.

We booked for lunch. You start with drinks and snacks on the ground floor. Where you are shown a choice of menus. Either the set lunch £49 or tasting menu £80. We went specifically for the set lunch, but on seeing the tasting menu we just couldn't resist. You are then shown upstairs to the rustic restaurant, where everyone is made to feel genuinely welcomed and no one is rushed. We're not going to go through the menu as you can see how good it is from the pics. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looks. The prices are keen for this quality of food and service. This is a Michelin starred restaurant and probably more affordable than dining in a top Gastropub. We booked this very last minute and so glad we did. The restaurant was full to capacity. For a midweek lunchtime that's very impressive. To answer the question,this is easlily the best restaurant in Leicestershire.

This was our second visit and yet again we were suitably impressed. it was our Golden Wedding and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive without being over powering. The staff are young and well trained in describing each course as well as being friendly and happy to chat. The evening lasted 3 and a half hours and it flew by. The restaurant was full but people are well spread out making it a very relaxing experience. Our friends and I were very impressed with the food and the service. I have a big appetite but the choice of courses ensured that at the end of the meal I was well and truly satisfied. The different textures in many of the courses was really interesting and enjoyable. Nothing was rushed and the separate room for coffee makes a nice end to the evening. If these staff are representative of the young people of today then well done to them and I hope they aim to make a career out being involved with fine dining. This will not be our last visit that’s for sure. Role on the next special occasion

Our first time at Johns House and we’ll definitely be back. The food was excellent quality and just the right amount. We had the 7 course menu. It was beautifully presented and a delicate blend of delicious flavours. The homemade breads were fabulous. We are so glad that we chose the wine pairing as each one matched the food perfectly.

This was our fourth visit to John’s House. Previously all dining experiences and service had exceeded expectations. On this visit we sampled the five course menu. The food was very good. Unfortunately the service we received was not. We ordered the pre-desert, one portion of which arrived in a dish which had clearly been been broken in several places and repaired. Thinking that this must have been an oversight we brought to the attention of one of the waiting staff, who informed us that the crockery was bespoke and that with a commitment to sustainability or similar that an expensive form of adhesive had been used to repair the bowl. The waitress demonstrated an air of disbelief that, when asked whether we had come across this previously, we stated that we had not. However the completely patronising manner and tone in which we were spoken to was embarrassing to say the least. Within earshot of other diners the response we received was given in a loud and passive aggressive style and we were spoken to as if we were children. I personally was very upset about it. Did she feel that speaking to us as a more elderly couple in this manner was justified? It really did spoil the evening for us. We will not be returning.

Absolutely delicious. Warm, cozy and delicious. We had the five course meal with the carrot sorbet add on (absolutely say yes to the sorbet). Cocktails were yummy, food was well plated and balanced. I am so glad we came.

Fabulous experience from the moment we arrived in the afternoon. We were shown to our room, across the road from the restaurant. Lady who showed us to the room was great, really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was more of a cottage. Kitchen, lounge and upstairs a bedroom and bathroom with shower. Excellent in every way. The fridge was stocked with wine and there was also a cocktail cupboard in the lounge very thoughtfully done. At a cost of course for anything you had. There was also lots of non alcoholic drinks and snacks that were complimentary. We decided to have breakfast brought to us in the cottage and it was lovely. Everything thought of and very high quality. In the evening we had the tasting menu and wine pairing. Everything was exquisite and service was perfect too. Everyone was friendly and efficient. They also went to light the fire in the cottage so that it was lit when we arrived back.

Haven’t been back since before John got his star. Since then you have to be quick to get a booking. It has expanded since last here with more space in the barn. What hasn’t change is the food and the service. Totally exquisite, how the waiting staff remember everything is beyond me. We are so proud the this restaurant is in our village. My wife and I went to John's House for lunch. We chose the 3 course option, plus the optional cheese course. I am a pescetarian and my wife a veggie and have to say they catered for us brilliantly. Each course was an adventure to the taste buds and we loved the way the food was introduced to us. It was a fantastic experience and something we hope to repeat soon.

Fine dining with local ingredients and lots of twists. John's House never lets you down. The tasting menu changes regularly to ensure optimum use of seasonal ingredients and these are used with great imagination to provide a real dining experience, and a very special treat.

This place is unbeatable, it’s incredible! Every aspect of this place is 10/10, even down to the hand towels in the toilets. The service is impeccable and the food is out of this world. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to all. We are now seasonal diners as the menu changes every 3 ish months. Amazing.

We have lived local for years and never been to Johns House. We booked 3 months in advance to get the date we wanted. We booked for the lunch tasting menu. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly young lady, taken into the lounge, drinks menus given and an explanation on how the rest of the meal would go. We ordered drinks for downstairs to so with our snack. Afterwards a young man took our drinks upstairs to our table where the lunch menu was explained. There was an option for a 3 or 5 course lunch with or without wine pairing. My husband and I decided on the 3 course followed by a cheese board. The snack was salmon and cured pork. Starters:me - salmon/husband ham hock Main: cod Deserts: me chocolate and raspberries/husband-strawberry trifle. All the dishes were served with local or Johns family farms vegetables and fruits. Cheeses where mainly local; Red Leicester, Lancaster bomb, stinky bishop served with rhubarb pickle, fig and brandy, walnuts and grapes. It was a treat for my husband birthday, there was a birthday card at the table then at then end of the meal he was presented with a small bottled gift, this was a very nice touch. The food and service was amazing. Definitely visit again sooner rather than later.
