John Lewis in Oxford Street, London has a selection of restaurants to choose from. The Restaurant on the 5th floor has seating both inside and out on the balcony overlooking Oxford Street. There is a very large selection of meals, snacks and drinks to choose from. The is lots of seating but it does get very busy and can get noisy. Clean with pleasant staff.

Went there yesterday, not been for years as last latte I had was the worse one I ever had! Busy, but had a table along wall. Table clean but bench seats all greasy and food everywhere, nothing to clean them with. Waited ages while husband got coffees. He said the girl had to be told time and time again what he wanted! She took ages to do two coffees and a cake. The cake was nice, although a bit thin. Latte was good, had a cappucino afterwards also but 3/4 full cup! Lukewarm. Why can't they make coffees properly? Not the right temp. Won't bother going again. there was a lady who looked like a supervisor, tidying up etc. but she was not watching the coffee area and could have helped stop the waiting time. Much quicker in M&S!

Visited John Lewis 'A place to Eat' today for lunch and was appalled by the state of the restaurant area. Tables were cluttered with cups and plates with left over food on them and the chairs and floor were littered with the remnants of food. The staff didn't have a clue regarding the menu and seemed pre=occupied with doing several jobs at once rather than focusing on customer care (obviously this restaurant does not have enough staff to operate the restaurant competently). The self service coffee machine served cold coffee and it tasted awful!! When visiting Chelmsford it was always a pleasure to stop off at John Lewis for a lunch break but from now on I'll find somewhere else to eat, absolutely disgusting experience!!

Unfortunately I follow a gluten free diet but find most places are efficient and clued up with proper labelling when out eating . The system at John Lewis is archaic, time consuming, and unsatisfactory! If you want to purchase a cake in the cafe an assistant who isn't busy has to be found who calls for somebody else to fetch an allergies book who now asks which cake is required then ploughs through book to find said cake. If this cake does contain gluten another has to be requested and so on and so forth until waiting friends and coffee are bored and cold. These cakes are not hand made on the premises so surely a label can be made and put on the label that says seek advice? Or stuck to cake lid.In this day and age when retail stores want to encourage your trade this inefficient service is outdated and a poor showing and does the opposite.

The cafe in John Lewis is on the top floor and located in the kids’ department. It is very large with a range of seating. It is ALWAYS possible to get a table. The acoustics are good and the food is fine. The sandwiches seem a bit expensive to me but the pizza is good value. They do kids’ lunch boxes too. Everything is clean and calm. Kids are welcome and due to good acoustics and space it doesn’t matter if the little ones are a tad noisy! It’s also a good place to take your laptop and work. Fine to sit there all day with a coffee. It’s not the most romantic place, I mean it’s a department store cafe but it is soooooo much more relaxed and quiet than the other restaurants in and around Westfield. I absolutely refuse to queue for Wagamama for example!

I have to admit that as often as I visit Bluewater that I never even knew there was this larger John Lewis café tucked up on the third floor. We used vouchers that we had received for tea and cake and were surprised by the size of the place, stunning and flooded with sunshine. Each kiosk was bustling with lunch rush customers and we were ourselves greeted by cheerful and friendly servers. With all that going so well it's kind of a shame about everything else. My partner received a fork still stained with the last patron's dessert and while he did enjoy his apple pie with a generous side of his favourite clotted cream unfortunately my promising looking chocolate cake was a dismal affair. Underneath the tables was also riddled with crumbs, all along the booths against the wall. I wouldn't have thought a place like John Lewis would be so lax, especially in high traffic areas where food is served.

I have been shopping and eating in John Lewis since the late 1950's so have some experience of this company. The place to eat is disgrace. The soup is cold, the cakes - sometimes - are not very fresh, the "barista" did make our coffee (we asked) first time reluctantly, second time a cappuccino end up black ? And took so long I could have had a nap. This is really bad for your reputation.

The space, and calm and decor is lovely. However it is a bit stressful using the less than ideal hot drinks machines to serve yourself pots of tea - the machines do not give out the correct amount of hot water for their teapots so you have to press twice then try to cancel halfway through the second push - it takes ages as the machine says it is waiting for water to heat between pots. Problem here is if you have one than one pot to fill (we had five), the first teas are stewed and too strong by the time you finally fill all pots and pay and take them to your table - you don't get this with staff who use hot water taps.Asked for fresh milk rather than wasteful non-environmentally friendly teeny plastic pots and proceeded to have to wait five minutes for a staff member to go and ask the manager for permission - more stewed tea. Eventually was given a jug but it was an inconvenience to them we sensed. If the machines were more efficient and did cold milk on tap - problem solved. Advised they did not have jugs, despite having fancy Emma Bridgewater crockery to display the cakes on etc - it's not like the store doesn't have an abundance of jugs.

Little bit pricey but it was nice. Good size fish, chips and peas. The lasagne was delicious and the side salad was nice and fresh. My only gripe, the queue to pay was long enough to have warranted opening the other till and then the food would have been hotter when it came to eat it. The food was steaming when it was put on the plate. The Twinnings English breakfast tea, which although you prepared it yourself, was in a teapot and was a very nice pot of tea. Staff were pleasant enough and it was nice to be greeted as we entered and a thank you and good bye as we left. The place was bright and airy with clean tables.

We popped to Westfield for a quick breakfast before going up town to shop. The John Lewis £5.95 for 5 items breakfast seemed the best option. Unfortunately though the items didn't look particularly appetising. The toast was laid out on the side waiting for someone who felt sorry for it. Of course it was very cold and tough as old boots. The eggs were ok but the sausages were average, hash browns were dry and Luke warm, mushrooms tasted ok and the hot baked beans were good. None of it was worth the price we paid for it and none of it was up to John Lewis normal standard. Sorry

In the café now the central area for tea, coffee and cakes has been replaced by a table laid out with some uncovered cakes. You have to get the coffee yourself from a machine on the other side of the room (the coffee had a bad taste). I can see this has been done to save money on staff but I think it is a false economy. I would prefer not to have free coffee and cake vouchers, pay a bit more, or both to have the old service and coffee back any day. Most chain cafes have covered open food and staff who make your coffee.I used to love my trips to John Lewis. I would punctuate visit with a coffee, salad and scone (btw the scone was still excellent, as usual. I hope that doesn’t change next). Also, while I was shopping in the store I overheard some staff complaining about changes they were not happy with. Seems like something is brewing.

We were recommended this place by a local, who said the view was spectacular, spectacular if you like building sites, if you really screwed your head around the way, you could see the back end of the Olympic stadium, but not that impressive, a jungle of concrete and hard hats everywhere.for the three of us to have a cake and hot drinks was about £15, I wouldn't call that cheap, the place lacked an atmosphere, all kind of eat and get out kind of vibe going on.Plenty of staff, but took a bit more time than I thought to get served, apparently lots of cleaning to do before bring in the shekels, I get that, but then isn't the customer always right. Management note: Maybe have someone on the till, and delegate people to clean, top up the knives and forks, then there was this insistence by the staff member who served me to get a John Lewis club card, I told them twice that I didn't want one, but they continued, then I dealt the blow that I lived abroad, and there is no John Lewis where I live. Then the attitude changed and said why didn't I tell them that in the first place, sorry, do I need to hand over such information to get a bloomin' tea and scone in here. Disappointed all round, should've just gone to Greggs across the road, staff are friendlier there.

As you walk in you are presented with a number of counters for hot drinks, cold drinks, hot food and cold food. All are laid out very clearly with menus on top of the counters. I do think the menus are rather small, however, it is easy enough to see whats on offer. As usual with John Lewis all of the staff are very pleasant and go out of their way to help!I had Sausage and Mash with caramelised onion and gravy and my mother had a prawn sandwich. Both were extremely tasty and not bad value for money. Stopped in for a light lunch after visiting the British museum. We ordered onion rings and the fish and chips to share. The service was the best we've had while in London, the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The lettuce that was garnish for the onion round was fresh and crisp and made a great salad. The fish was cooked perfectly, so crispy, and had flavor. The chips were hot and some of the best we've had in London. We would return if in London again.
