We only stopped briefly for dinner with the dogs. The service was friendly and the back garden is lovely in the sun.

Thought it a bit odd having cider day flags dotted around the outside rear part of the restaurant but I was only offered 1 type of cider Strongbow.

Appears to be reverting to a "travelling" clientele. Abuse in the car park was the start of this experience that was memorable and not in a good way.

Visited for a light lunch. My wife had the fish finger flat bread, and I had the cheese melt steak flat bread. The children had chicken nuggets, chips, and beans. The quality of the food was very good and surprisingly so for the children's nuggets. They were whole chunks of chicken breast battered and fried and a decent amount of them as well. The steak was cooked exactly as I asked, medium rare, and a decent cut of meat. The portions served was about the right size for a light lunch. The staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful. I am looking forward to my next visit.

The usual gastropub food. Though I recommend the steak, which was cooked perfectly. However, there is no gluten-free menu, nor anything on the menu to indicate whether it was GF or not. Presented with an allergens folder, which is embarrassing in front of everyone and is time-consuming. Also, a dog was allowed to run round, not pleasent and unhealthy in any place. This was for fathers day.

Came here for a Father’s Day meal and was extremely disappointed with the poor value for money. First, I want to commend the servers, who were fantastic, sociable, and did their jobs well. Unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect of our visit. The meals took 40 minutes to arrive, and several items were lukewarm at best. Reluctant to wait another 40 minutes, we decided to eat anyway. I ordered the fish finger ciabatta for £7.50, with an additional £1.50 for chips. What I received was a thawed-out catering baguette with four catering fish fingers, a leaf of lettuce, and a child's handful of chips. This felt like an outrageous price for such a subpar meal. The Singapore noodles seemed like a supermarket ready meal poured into a bowl. The chip shop ‘platter’ barely filled the plate. £16.50. Yikes. The coke I ordered was watered-down and tasted like a cheap off-brand substitute. The desserts were equally disappointing: £7.50 for a tiny piece of thawed Biscoff cheesecake and £7.50 for a Jaffa sundae with three minuscule scoops of ice cream that barely filled the container. Moreover, the lack of allergen and dietary information on the menu is concerning. When asked about gluten-free options, we were handed a book of ingredients. This felt condescending and unnecessarily complicated. A simple 'gf' on the menu items would suffice, as is standard in other pubs and restaurants. I suspect the owners will respond with their typical passive-aggressive comments to this review, as they seem resistant to change. It's unfortunate that they don't feel the need to improve, given that this is one of the only family pubs in town. It seems the bar for quality is set very low here, yet people continue to pay London prices for below-average food.

Lovely how the pub has been re-develped The food was great and a really good extensive menu lots of choices and sensible prices . Prompt friendly service! My only gripe was the family next to us had dogs . I'm a dog lover but not in a restaurant the country has gone mad why does everyone expect to take their dog everywhere all the time? I do not want a Labradors wet nose touching my arm whilst eating thank you nor do I want to hear other dogs barking inside the building. Food great! service great! drinks great! Others customers not so great. Will visit again despite my moaning.

Great evening at The John Brunt VC. Fantastic service and a brilliant atmosphere. The Landlords go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and valued. We will definitely return, and would strongly recommend this venue

After moving to the area recently I have tried several pubs that are close enough to use regularly, both for a quick drink and to share with my wife, friends and family when they make the not short trip to visit us. The pub is clean, the food is good, it's situated ideally for the train station and has a more than ample sized beer garden with both a patio and grassed area that can easily accommodate quite large numbers without tripping over one another. Particularly worthy of mention are the staff. Extremely efficient speedy service, professional, polite and helpful. The landlord and landlady are very much in the right line of work. Extremely affable, chatty, friendly, helpful, professional and welcoming. You just know that these guys are doing their very best to make you feel at home and nothing appears to be too much trouble. I recommend this pub not just if you live in Paddock Wood but should take the time to make a special visit from any of the surrounding areas or farther afield and enjoy a nice summer weekend afternoon in their beer garden or use their snug if you want a feeling of a little more privacy as I have more than once.

Great family friendly local pub with a friendly welcoming team, very good selection of beers, wines and cocktails. Tasty food with traditional pub classics, great choice on kids menu and delicious desserts with very generous portions on their Sunday menu.

This place has changed so much for the better.

I sometimes call in here for a quick pint, it's a nice draft beer Harveys , however it's over priced in comparison to several other local pubs.Looks and feels old fashioned, with stone floor and old wooden furniture, medium size, very nice beer garden, loo's are adequate. Miserable bar person, I have not tried the food but looks to be quick pub grub. Disabled parking has 1 slot in the carpark at the rear of the pub.

Awful place. They have obviously spent a small fortune on a re- vamp, but the bored and indifferent girl behind the bar was enough to turn your beer sour. What has happened to bar chat. Every one was staring at their phone or playing the Pokeys. The staff should be taught Banrcraft instead of a cold, unfriendly & indifferent attitude......small wonder pubs are closing. As a local pub it should be lively and a fun place to be instead of a cold and unwelcoming hole...never again.

Great place to have a drink and a chat, with live music in the background sometimes. Very welcoming with a quiet day paved garden area as well. Not eaten there yet

Met a family member yesterday (29/01/24) for lunch, ideal location,1 min from the station, clean, tidy pub throughout, well kept beer, great food and friendly staff, atmosphere for a Monday lunchtime was good. Thoroughly recommend a visit

Went for dinner with a friend and was very impressed. They have done a great job and worked hard In turning this pub around from what it used to be like. It’s a great local with very good food and drink offers and great service. No need to go to the hop farm anymore as the food is much better here , cheaper and within walking distance. Will definitely try and visit more frequently. 10/10

I came twice with a group of people, and the food arrived quickly and tasty.We gathered there, feeling very cozy, and definitely love the place with free carpark.

This was a golden wedding anniversary celebration with 26 guests that was made so wonderful by the efforts of Paul, Gabby and their wonderful staff. Service was beyond expectations. I can't recommend highly enough. Brilliant.

Mixed reviews we went last week was treated much better then last month after a waitress previously having a bad attitude when I had paid for everything I had gone back up to ask for a drink she hadn't given us to be told she had to serve other people first after I had paid and had to wait 20 minutes for a beer and I said I wouldn't go there again but we went last week and had much better service although we was asked if it was okay to move so another couple could sit down for the couple to sit down to moan about my children and be rude to my son so we didn't bother with desserts unfortunately the food is absolutely amazing though we just don't find it as welcoming as we used to witch is fine shame

Very nice little quiet pub/restauraunt. Nice and close to the station, friendly staff, good quick service and truly amazing food. Good selection of Vegan and Veggie options (including desserts) and I couldn't recommend the 'Bombay Burger' enough! You'd genuinely not expect to find such amazing food in what looks like a seemingly run-of-the-mill local pub from the outside.

26 guests given first class food, drink and service, delivered with efficiency and a smile. Gabby and Paul are excellent hosts with staff of the highest calibre who ensured that we had an enjoyable and stress free evening. We cannot recommend this venue highly enough and feel limited that we cannot give more than a five star rating. David & Diana

Didn't have any food, but lovely little pub

Lovely little food pub. Nice atmosphere and plenty of tables. Food was good, but not exceptional. I was disappointed they didn't have breaded mushrooms considering it was really early in the afternoon. Food was presented really nicely. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I had been using this place for the last 2 year's and the last land lord had cleaned the place up but it is under different management now and the old bad elements are creeping back in now. Just this evening I witnessed a chavie type with his dangerous pit bull type dog attack another dog in the beer garden!!!, it was awful, there was lots of young kids around, it was not a good scene, it's ruined for me. Shame coz it was a nice place but I wouldn't feel safe with my kids in there if they are going to let dangerous dogs in the beer garden!!

First visit in a while but so happy to see the lovely Arita remains an asset. We sat near the door so nice and breezy on a hot evening. The drinks were very refreshing and we indulged in a “two for £17” deal. The gourmet burger and pollo pizza were tasty!

We had a lovely family dinner here on a Saturday night. Amazing food from the new summer menu, all four of us tried different dishes and all of them were soo delicious. Very reasonable prices and so much choice on menu, we cant wait for another excuse to eat here again! A wonderful little pub, all the staff are so lovely and friendly here, so grateful to call this pub our local. Garden is a gorgeous sun trap as well, just perfect on a summers day!

Super service and when there's no live music they do a juke box request which was a great idea. There was a nice selection of drinks and the ambience was buzzing. It was clean and the staff cars about the environment. The outside area is nice especially in the sunny evenings.

Friendly staff and lively atmosphere, we look forward to returning soon.

This is our second visit and once again service was excellent and the meals were first class. It’s nice to know that they cater for vegans as my wife is vegan. All creams are vegan as well. I am disabled and access was not a problem. The disabled toilets were spotlessly clean and dryers, soap and toilet paper were fully stocked up. They also allow well behaved dogs and will book you a doggy section table. Well done to all the staff and chef.

I couldn't recommend this venue highly enough, great value for money with great service from the staff, they were attentive courteous and on point, if standard gastro pub rates were charged I would still eat here with out a drop of a hat. The menu caters for all including vegans who can also enjoy a three course meal.

Far exceeding our expectations for the food. As French resident this "pub grub" was so very well cooked and excellent value for money. Staying in Hawkhurst and will certainly tell our friends. A totally satisfying surprise.

Comment on the new direction: the Rump Steak dish is simply great. The meat has very tasty fat without any sinew, you eat 100% of the meat and fat, everything is very tender from the first bite to the last... That's how good it is 😄

Nice friendly atmosphere with good food

Terrible! They took payment 3 times saying that they made a mistake and that they had refunded but rather than refund they took payment again, many calls and visits to get the money back. Shame as the meal and the waitress were great, but completely disorganised.

Lovely start to the meal with a fabulous waitress and great food.Sadly there were payment issues and the wrong amount was collected from my bank.This issue took four days and numerous calls to rectify and caused a lot of upset. Although the management was apologetic my mum is still awaiting her money to be returned and this does not change the fact this this occur not just to her but also to me and the payment was taken out more then once.i.have never complained about a restaurant but feel very upset that this is the nature in which customers are treated with the financial strains that people are currently under.Such a shame and with new management only there for a month they should have tried better to rectify their error. I am very disappointed.Watch you bank transactions for clarity if you visit.

Been to London for the day ,so train station a stones throw from the pub so popped in to have a bite to eat, food lovely, staff friendly, and the new owners very attentive, and we were made to feel very welcome, we will definitely be going again

Popped in for a quick pint after the Simla. Never been in the 27 odd years I've known the area. Seemed like a decent pub.

Still a lovely pub to visit even with the new owners. The service was great, helpful and friendly staff. The roast was as yummy as usual with plenty of veg. Will be returning regularly and have already recommended it.

Food is great. Staff member I was served by friendly and polite. Another staff member was eating behind the bar, it looked very unprofessional. Bar area clutered with a tray of glasses. Some areas of maintenance need to be improved.

Popped in for a lunchtime drink. Service as great as ever. Coffee was very tasty and beautifully presented and rose lemonade very good too.

Nice looking pub and friendly staff. However, I was told to remove my Christmas hat as not allowed to wear them in this pub! I'd just had a hair cut so my head was feeling a little cold but removed my warm hat! The hat is not face covering in any way and I've worn this Christmas tree hat in a few pubs so far, including a pub where my wife works without issues. BAR HUMBUG to this pub.

We have been living here for over 6 months now, having lived in the area when we were younger we would never have stepped foot in this pub. Alan has completely changed this pub to a wonderful local, where families are welcome and everyone has a laugh, Jill does wonderful food! Arita is wonderful so so friendly and welcoming. I couldn’t wish for a better local so thank you guys!!

1st time back since the new owners have taken over. They are very welcoming, and the pub is very clean and tidy. There are Lots of new faces. I didn't get chance to try the food but the beer and atmosphere was very pleasant. The quiz night on Tuesdays seems to be very popular and was great listening along. The bar staff were very friendly and were kind enough to bring our drinks to the table. It was great to have access to baby changing facilities that were super clean. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to have their Sunday roast but I hear it is very good, so I will be back for that.

Have been here a few times since moving to the area. Thoroughly enjoy the beer garden. Good selection of beers and soft drinks too. Haven’t tried the food yet but looking forward to. Staff always friendly and helpful.

I would never recommend the John Brunt as manager is Ultra Rude. We went there last Mother’s Day big party of us. We asked for the bill to be separated into two, when the bill came out we were give two bills exactly the same for the whole amount, therefore trying to charge us double. We know this was a mistake and was happy to sort this out and leave it as that. Then after that was sorted out we were charged for an extra dinner when we Queried this after half an hour of back and fourth and watching of their CCTV man who owns the pub said he wouldn’t charge us on Goodwill. When I questioned Goodwill he said well you had everything which was on your bill! So in fact he was accusing us of trying to steal a meal. In my work life I have advanced police check to allow me to work on the police computer system. My husband title is the digital owner of the Times newspaper, my daughter has a full police check as she works with vulnerable people. Two of my sons are business owners, one of which employee 5 or 6 people. Our daughters partner also a business owner works in clients homes. Would any of us really try to steel a plate of hamburger and chips for £8:00. and put any of our careers in Jeopardy! Apparently after we left the owner tallied up and realize we had paid for everything we had ordered and they had tried to over charged us one dinner. We never received an apology from this rude man even though he had a contact number from when my daughter made the booking. We will never go in there again or recommend the Brunt to one else.. The food is mediocre at best, mainly straight from the freezer convenience food If you want to be accused of trying to under pay in front of a pub full of people this is the place for you! However if you really want to food: Man of Kent East Peckham. The poacher. The star at Matfield. The poet Matfield. The carpenters alms. The Half way house Brenchley.

We had a lovely visit to England where we saw dear friends in Kent, birthplace of my mother in law. The food here was great. The service was superb.

The owner and staff were extremely helpful and catered well to the demands of senior citizens. The food was delicious and plentiful. Both the vegetarian and meat eaters enjoyed the spread. The range of 0% beverages was fantastic as well as the range of alcohol....

We held my Dad's 80th Birthday and Mum and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary party here for approx 35 - 40 people. From the beginning, the owner and employees were helpful, accommodating and generally really lovely. We were allowed to decorate the area of the pub...

No roasts today which was a shame but the spicy pizza certainly hit the spot @ only £10.99. The atmosphere was as social as ever, the staff as amazing as always and the drinks wonderful as ever. Recommended!

Newly redecorated, very clean with a nice garden that always gets sunny at lunch in summer. Pub food that comes out quickly and very polite staff. Only down side is lack of football on the TVs that they do have inside! :)

Super pub since the refurb, wonderful staff, Alan and his team are doing a wonderful job. Knew him from his previous pub in Hildenborough. Great food on offer, ideal for family get togethers.

Our party had the perfect time recently celebrating a family 70th wedding anniversary. A big thank you to all at The John Brunt.
