Great place to have a drink and a chat, with live music in the background sometimes. Very welcoming with a quiet day paved garden area as well. Not eaten there yet

only popped in for a quick one after going for a curry, but it looks nice inside and all was good.

Met a family member yesterday (29/01/24) for lunch, ideal location,1 min from the station, clean, tidy pub throughout, well kept beer, great food and friendly staff, atmosphere for a Monday lunchtime was good. Thoroughly recommend a visit

This was a golden wedding anniversary celebration with 26 guests that was made so wonderful by the efforts of Paul, Gabby and their wonderful staff. Service was beyond expectations. I can't recommend highly enough. Brilliant.

Mixed reviews we went last week was treated much better then last month after a waitress previously having a bad attitude when I had paid for everything I had gone back up to ask for a drink she hadn't given us to be told she had to serve other people first after I had paid and had to wait 20 minutes for a beer and I said I wouldn't go there again but we went last week and had much better service although we was asked if it was okay to move so another couple could sit down for the couple to sit down to moan about my children and be rude to my son so we didn't bother with desserts unfortunately the food is absolutely amazing though we just don't find it as welcoming as we used to witch is fine shame

Very nice little quiet pub/restauraunt. Nice and close to the station, friendly staff, good quick service and truly amazing food. Good selection of Vegan and Veggie options (including desserts) and I couldn't recommend the 'Bombay Burger' enough! You'd genuinely not expect to find such amazing food in what looks like a seemingly run-of-the-mill local pub from the outside.

Didn't have any food, but lovely little pub

Lovely little food pub. Nice atmosphere and plenty of tables. Food was good, but not exceptional. I was disappointed they didn't have breaded mushrooms considering it was really early in the afternoon. Food was presented really nicely. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I had been using this place for the last 2 year's and the last land lord had cleaned the place up but it is under different management now and the old bad elements are creeping back in now. Just this evening I witnessed a chavie type with his dangerous pit bull type dog attack another dog in the beer garden!!!, it was awful, there was lots of young kids around, it was not a good scene, it's ruined for me. Shame coz it was a nice place but I wouldn't feel safe with my kids in there if they are going to let dangerous dogs in the beer garden!!

Super service and when there's no live music they do a juke box request which was a great idea. There was a nice selection of drinks and the ambience was buzzing. It was clean and the staff cars about the environment. The outside area is nice especially in the sunny evenings.

Friendly staff and lively atmosphere, we look forward to returning soon.

Far exceeding our expectations for the food. As French resident this "pub grub" was so very well cooked and excellent value for money. Staying in Hawkhurst and will certainly tell our friends. A totally satisfying surprise.

Comment on the new direction: the Rump Steak dish is simply great. The meat has very tasty fat without any sinew, you eat 100% of the meat and fat, everything is very tender from the first bite to the last... That's how good it is 😄

Nice friendly atmosphere with good food

Terrible! They took payment 3 times saying that they made a mistake and that they had refunded but rather than refund they took payment again, many calls and visits to get the money back. Shame as the meal and the waitress were great, but completely disorganised.

Recently under new management but very consistent with the post-refurbishment vibe. Decent quality food and good selection of beers. Family friendly.

Been to London for the day ,so train station a stones throw from the pub so popped in to have a bite to eat, food lovely, staff friendly, and the new owners very attentive, and we were made to feel very welcome, we will definitely be going again

This pub has been transformed since I first came to Paddock Wood. Highly recommended.

Food is great. Staff member I was served by friendly and polite. Another staff member was eating behind the bar, it looked very unprofessional. Bar area clutered with a tray of glasses. Some areas of maintenance need to be improved.

Nice looking pub and friendly staff. However, I was told to remove my Christmas hat as not allowed to wear them in this pub! I'd just had a hair cut so my head was feeling a little cold but removed my warm hat! The hat is not face covering in any way and I've worn this Christmas tree hat in a few pubs so far, including a pub where my wife works without issues. BAR HUMBUG to this pub.

We have been living here for over 6 months now, having lived in the area when we were younger we would never have stepped foot in this pub. Alan has completely changed this pub to a wonderful local, where families are welcome and everyone has a laugh, Jill does wonderful food! Arita is wonderful so so friendly and welcoming. I couldn’t wish for a better local so thank you guys!!

Nice pint and friendly barstaff

Service great and a nice place overall, but the food ranges from average to poor for the price you pay (my burger wasn’t nice as it had some strange seasoning you’d never expect in a burger and for good reason. Well cooked, but the recipe isn’t good) and prices are too preposterous to come more regularly. It’s the best we have in the town, and I can forgive cooks having their own recipes, etc, but I can really see how they can justify how expensive everything is considering how average it all is. Note to owner response: firstly, you spelled my name wrong. Secondly - I can’t exactly get the message across of “you need to change your entire business model and recipe book to actually be worth the prices you charge for the quality given” by sending back a burger. The whole table was disappointed, and we were making the best of what was our Christmas meal. Make the prices reflect what you serve and maybe we’ll consider returning.

The Sunday roast was absolutely fantastic, big portions and presentation was spot on. Staff couldnt be more helpful. Next visit already being planned.

1st time back since the new owners have taken over. They are very welcoming, and the pub is very clean and tidy. There are Lots of new faces. I didn't get chance to try the food but the beer and atmosphere was very pleasant. The quiz night on Tuesdays seems to be very popular and was great listening along. The bar staff were very friendly and were kind enough to bring our drinks to the table. It was great to have access to baby changing facilities that were super clean. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to have their Sunday roast but I hear it is very good, so I will be back for that.

Newly redecorated, very clean with a nice garden that always gets sunny at lunch in summer. Pub food that comes out quickly and very polite staff. Only down side is lack of football on the TVs that they do have inside! :)

It used to be a pub to steer clear of but has had a make over and new management we had a reasonable meal and a pint unfortunately not on the special deal (50% off ) but still quite reasonable.

Cosy, friendly little place. Staff were incredibly welcoming and tolerant of our puppy, who was a pain. Food and beer were both very good, but the thing that stands out is the exceptional service and care that the staff provided. We will be back. 100% recommend.

Used to be a really dodgy pub, now good pub grub and not expensive. Had Harvey's best on sale, sacrilege in Kent but I was happy!

This pub should get Michelin star for their juicy steaks. Quick service , friendly staff , local and very friendly and the staff are full of energy. What you exactly need after a hard days work. Dog friendly and a rock star pub owner. We will be back.

Not very nice visit. You could clearly see that regulars have more attention then new customers, being there for second time in two years. Overpriced! We only went there when they 50% off on main meals. If you pay £13 for desperado burger, at least make big portion. Kids burger look like Aldi frozen patties thrown in large brioche roll. And the worst one was chicken with wine sauce, green beans and boil potatoes. Potato raw in the middle, chicken was pink but falling our the bone, wich indicated that they use frozen chicken, green beans was so under cook. Not recommended. I have been working in pub industry for 25 years now, and that was my worst experience. Will probably choose Wetherspoon instead as taste same if not better then pay that money for food tasting worst then good old spoon when you drunk. Really disappointing. I'm not gonna even mention wait for food over half hour. I agree with someone who said about English ale. If you gonna sell one make sure you do it properly. Is life product wich requires a lot of attention.

My husband and I had not visited the John Brunt since it closed for refurb and closed due to the pandemic. What a suprise. We booked a table for a date night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. There is a warm welcome even down to the decor. We had a fantastic meal. I am a fussy eater and there was only 4 things on the menu that I would eat and unfortunately, what I had chosen they did not have. I then chose buffalo wings, (a starter for my meal) and I was not disappointed. My husband had Steak and he has said, it was the best steak he had ever eaten. I think we have found our perfect local. Even better, its a 3 min walk from home. Thank you John Brunt. You will see us again very soon.

What great job they have made of the refurbishment, then we had the Pandemic and it had to close. But while it was closed they've made it as covid secure as they can. The landlord is top notch, and his staff are on the ball as well. Good beer Good food good company, give it a visit and I will be surprised if you don't go back.

Sunday surprise, we visited on Sunday for a bite to eat, found that the menu although reduced was tasty & good quality, the staff were very welcoming & cheerful, we had just finished our food when the singer turned up to provide some great background songs, great atmosphere & had a really enjoyable experience. Will definitely call in again for a Sunday treat.

Outside seating is plentiful. The drinks are good, refreshing soda & lime and nice coffee. Service is friendly. I like the fact the managers take the time to “keep an eye” on things which makes for a pleasant visit for the punters.

Wow. What can I say? Where to start. Jill & Alan and the stuff were so welcoming and lovely. On arrival, we was greeted and made aware of the COVID-19 rules and regulations the pub had in place, staff on top of cleaning, one way system, hand sanitisers throughout & last but not least fantastic table service. Had got our food, I had nothing to complain about. My buttermilk chicken burger was succulent, followed by my upgraded desperado chips, was AMAAAZING. My partner, had the fish platter which had all different varieties of bits of fit, including fish cake, a battered bit of cod, fish fingers, peas and chips. It filled a whole that’s for sure. We still made room for dessert, which I couldn’t recommend enough!!! Amazing service, start to finish! We will be back :)))

We have lived in Paddock Wood for over 30 years and have avoided going to The John Brunt as it was not a venue we wished to visit. However, we were delighted when the building had a much needed refit and new management were brought in. The landlady and landlord are friendly, helpful, efficient, and we feel very welcome. They ensure customers are able to use all the facilities the Pub has to offer. The staff are also friendly and helpful thus making our visits enjoyable. We intend using The John Brunt regularly. It’s a big thank you for us.

Not even the floods can get people in! Want ding ding food, go to Tesco's and get a ready meal. Lol lol

Enough is enough, Walked past today (Sunday, no doubt the reply will say they had 1000 people in) and there is nobody in there! Nobody! I have seen the garbage replies on here but the pub is never busy. These are the worst couple to ever run the Brunt and I mean ever! I and many other locals have drank in the Brunt for at least 20 years or more and to see what has happened to our local is disgusting. The pub was nearly always full of local people who kept the pub going for years and years and nearly all of us have either left because of the management or been barred! (Ridiculous!) All the want to be snobs that go in there once a month will not keep a pub going! The food is microwave food that they want to charge home made prices for and you would find better quality at Wetherspoons. But at least you can always rely on the atmosphere as it is like a graveyard. They keep blaming covid for poor numbers but hopefully they can’t blame that forever. I personally can’t wait for the day Alan and Jill leave and our beloved local becomes a local again! Give us back our pub.

A group of us went to go in John Brunt last Sunday at 3pm, weather was nice but the pub was empty so we carried on walking! They must be doing something wrong when they have more staff than customers, unbelievable! Every other pub we walked past was busy so who knows, won’t bother again!

Went to the John Brunt today for lunch with a group of friends. Food and service was absolutely excellent. Lovely large beer garden and very covid compliant. Would highly recommend. We will definitely return.

After hitting up car boot sales all morning my friends and I decided to try this place out. Cannot recommend enough, the owner who is quite simply the best host I've ever come across and the staff which are on the same wave length. I had the plant based gourmet burger which was excellent. Glad I've found this as we'll definitely be back.

Wanted to say a big thank you to Alan and Jill for the great service and hospitality they should us with our short notice booking, yesterday they sorted out our food and drinks in good time, and I was even able to try a first for me with the cauliflower wings on their recommendation, I will be ordering these again for sure !!! A great venue and a friendly atmosphere and a friendly team too. Thanks again for making us feel so welcome. We will be coming back for more.

Came here with some friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Lovely food, lovely staff - would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back.

Went to this pub recently to see family and could not have had a better time. The food was incredible, had a burger with the loaded nacho chips and then canapé food after and it was the best pub food I've ever had. Alan and Jill who run the pub now are brilliant hosts with very attentive staff. Didn't have an empty drink in my hand for more than a few minutes before the lovely staff came to ask if I was alright. The new renovation is beautiful and I will definitely be visiting again if not for the atmosphere, for the lovely food and welcoming staff.
