A nice little cafe and shop on the Pantiles. We popped in for a pit stop while shopping and loved the cakes - the citrus drizzle was probably the best drizzle cake I've ever had - so moist! Nice, friendly staff, and some interesting items to buy, like matches and cards.

Hattons in Royal Tunbridge Wells is a gem! The coffee is amazing, and I love that the cup is huge—perfect for savoring every sip. The brunch menu offers a great variety of options, so there's something for everyone. The atmosphere is charming, whether you sit inside or outside. I sat outside on a perfect sunny Sunday, and it was just idyllic. The only thing I didn’t love was feeling a bit pressured to add gratuity by the waiter at the end, rather than being given options. A little more flexibility would have made the experience perfect. Still, I highly recommend it for a relaxing and delicious brunch!

Visited our favourite haunt in Tunbridge Wells for brunch. Hattons offers lovely food and excellent coffee with a very relaxed atmosphere in the historical and often vibrant Pantiles. On a pleasant day there is the option to sit outside. Henry and the team are very friendly and always most welcoming. The menu is varied enough to cater for most tastes and the quality of the food is excellent. Already looking forward to our next visit!

I wouldn't normally review a coffee break, but Hattons was so exceptional in its welcome and service that it deserves a shout out. We arrived with a wheelchair. George was at the door immediately to help us in and clear a path to a table, and he and Henry were friendly and attentive. Their good cheer and the stylish surroundings made a quick coffee a very happy treat.

The place is not cheap and, when asked for a bill the waitress came and verbally told us the price. I gave her money and asked for the bill. When she gave it to me, there was 12.5% added service charge marked as "optional". How is it optional if one does not get the paper bill except on asking. I am afraid I asked for the tip, which I added to the cash I gave her, back. Interesting what would the situation be if I paid by card

Beautiful surroundings but the food was unappetising: Chicken Caesar Salad with croutons, which would have killed a bird and not lightly toasted baguette or ciabatta; the vinaigrette smothered the chicken and lettuce leaves; some thin shavings of parmesan; however, no tomatoes or olives. The redeeming factor was the Victoria sponge which was enjoyed by a member of the party. The cleanliness of the tables was below par; a member of our party had to ask for ours to be cleaned, and it was left rather wet! The washing facilities were not the cleanest either and arguably, mirrored the service and food. Will not visit again.

First the positives. The staff are polite and friendly. That’s it on the positive side! Now the negatives! I ordered a coffee which was ok but not brilliant and came in the smallest imaginable cup! I also ordered a sausage roll and the person taking the orders told me they’ve changed their sausage rolls - they now cost £5.50 (!!!) but I was told that they are ‘much bigger!’ The barista made my coffee and I waited fully another 10 minutes for my sausage roll, which I had asked to be heated up - so my coffee was then luke warm! When the sausage roll arrived it was the same size as the old smaller sausage rolls - and it had clearly been nuked in a microwave as it was soggy and the grease had come right through the paper bag! I told the person taking orders that the sausage roll was the same size as the old ones and he said he’d refund me the difference. I said I’d like the larger one that I’d ordered which was no problem. I suggested he double bag it so the grease is contained - again I was told that was no problem - except the only slightly bigger sausage roll arrived in a single bag with again the grease coming through! I also asked the barista for the price of the pepper pots they were selling. I said my children could get me them for my birthday if they weren’t too expensive - he looked up the price then rang them up on the till saying ‘so that’s £13 please’ thinking I was buying them despite me saying I just wanted to know the price! This place has so much potential but they are trading on their position in the pantiles to charge far too much for the end product! If you are going to charge premium prices you need to provide premium quality produce! It’s a shame because it’s a local independent café which I always like to support but I am afraid to say I felt more than a little ripped off! I binned the luke warm coffee and bought another one from a café further up the hill - it was cheaper, bigger, and hot and frankly far better value for money and nicer coffee! Shame really!

So recommended to go here for lockdown treat. Huge queue. Unprepared. Bossy boots on till moaning at hard-working coffee boy.Asked for well cooked bacon - “it is what it is” she said, so we took a chance. Disgusting cold bacon sandwiches - barely cooked. Sausage baguette was ok. “Dan” giving his friends in the queue hot drinks whilst real customers are waiting. Too long a wait for hot food. Knowing the lockdown crowd are needy get organised. Anything else? No, not really. Waste of time and complete waste of money. Never again. Ps cakes in window looked nice.

Visited late afternoon for some refreshments after a walk. Met by a very polite waitress at the door who asked if we had the NHS app. As we didn’t we were asked to complete our details on a form once seated. We were asked to wear our masks whilst walking to a table. We were also told we would need to wear our masks if we wanted to get up and look at the cake display. Very nice friendly staff who were all wearing masks. Tables were cleaned as soon as people left. Impeccably clean toilet facilities which included hand gel (which was also outside at the entrance). We only had hot drinks and a scone (which was delicious!) but will definitely be back when we next visit RTW. We are all having to get used to this new way of living and from what we saw Hattons are doing everything they can to still make it an enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend it.

Our waitress was very polite and friendly and the food was nice (overpriced, but nice). However my main concern was around their covid procedures and in this current climate this is largely now how I judge whether I will be returning somewhere or not. The current guidelines are around social distancing, no more than 6 people and track and trace. During the short time we were there to grab a sandwich, a waiter hugged another customer that he greeted as an old friend, then we also saw him walk outside and hug someone else on the street. This definitely isn't social distancing and concerns me that he is then working and serving many people. They did give us a track and trace form (which we had to hand back otherwise it would have been left on the table with our personal information), but when members of staff are acting irresponsibly it does little to reassure us and so for that reason we wouldn't return.

Had a spot of lunch here on Sunday, the food was tasty and the service pleasant. Sadly they are not taking covid measures seriously. We were here on our way back from a long weekend on the South Coast. This was the only establishment we visited that: - did not take my name and contact details, - were using the same menu on a clipboard passed from customer to customer, - required me to go inside to pay. Everywhere else this weekend they had requested people to stay at their table. Asking everyone to go inside and hover over the food counter is not good practice at the moment.

Of the countless cafes in or near the historic Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells, all of them boast good coffees of one brand or another, or so they should at the prices charged, varying from £1.20 - 1.70 (sit in) and 10-20p less (take away). You'd also expect good service, n'est ce pas? After all, we've opted for the three P's: Pantiles - Posh - Polite. But at Hattons Royal TW, there is service with a bite. Instead of leaving service to the discretion of the customer, if you eat in at Hattons, you will automatically be charged 10% service. Perhaps - given various past reviews of Hattons in 2019 castigating the establishment for unfriendly attitudes - this is their carrot in front of their own donkey for staff to behave kindly to one and all customers in that politically correct manner we've all had to suffer ever since there was an aristocracy. Better that than rudeness, of course. But what happens when the service proves erratic, forgetful or tardy? Here's my story.... Take son for a Saturday breakfast at Hattons. He orders scrambled eggs on toast with avocado and a cappucino. I order an Americano and a plain croissant. The eggs arrive with unasked for sausages and no avocado, but everything else is dandy. I call for my son's dish to be honoured but my son doesn't want the wait or the fuss and sticks to the sausages (which he eats with relish - and, indeed, the scrambled is, he says, A1). The staff and the chef (who appeared) have all been - as they should be - accommodating without fuss. The preset service charge (even given the avocado slip up) is accepted. But, but, but.... We leave Hattons and I return a couple of hours later to reward myself with a post-shop bacon sandwich and Americano. Hattons is packed at lunchtime. I ask for my sandwich and the coffee to come together, and stress this. I also assure the friendl manager that there's no rush (within reason) as I can see he and his limited number of staff haven't the Italian skills to wait on countless tables without hiccups. After 13-15 minutes waiting, I remind one of the waiters of my order. She sees to one half of the order - the smoked bacon on white bread sandwich. The coffee (which I asked to come at the same time) comes later. (I have to say that this is a general problem with the majority of cafes in posh Pantiles, that the staff have yet to learn how to time the presentation of a customer's orders so that the customer can eat and drink without time gaps, and more importantly, that all at the table can enjoy their meal together - without time gaps. As to the smoked bacon sandwich on white bread (for which the charge is £5.50) - I have had far better sandwiches at a greasy spoon. The smoked bacon was revamped and dry and chewy. The white bread was thick and tasteless and hardly buttered. I'm fed up and hungry: I suffer the provided lot. Then I go in to pay and am wacked with a bill over £11! I question why so much and the staff amicably and duly withdraw the service charge (10%), and I only realise en route home that I've still been mistakenly overcharged by at least two or more pounds stirling. So take heed. As the title of this prolonged account has it (to match the waiting):at Hattons, beware - service with a bite.

I visited here at the weekend and was so disappointed with our experience. My partner and I arrived, liked the atmosphere of the place, and it looked promising. I ordered the Avocado on Toast, and my partner ordered the beans on toast. The food took SUCH a long time to arrive, especially as we had ordered things that didn't need to be cooked or required minimal preparation. My food was so bland, I almost sent it back. We love to support independent places, and I wanted this place to do well but it just didn't. There seemed to be poor organisation, the manager was literally running down the middle of the tiny shop, and did a lot of standing around chatting to people which whilst was pleasant on occasion, considering how busy the two waitresses were, was not particularly helpful at all. We waited 25 minutes for our bill after asking. People around us were asking for rectification of their orders, and one of the waitresses told them 'they would just have to wait', but she never actually returned to help? It felt very chaotic, and it was really not enjoyable at all. The only saving grace, was Emily the waitress, who was working so hard, and picking up the slack from everyone else. She never missed a beat, and I felt very sorry for her indeed.

Truly wonderful meal-every course imaginative twist on Burn's supper ingredients which were all delicious- the most notable being the Venison Wellington. We really don't think the food could have been better. The start time was 7pm and we had to wait for the final table arrived at 7.45pm to start our food. The staff wanted to serve everyone at the same time, which was a bit frustrating and odd, as all the tables were separate and there were no Burn's touches at all. This meant that there was a fairly marked lack of atmosphere, which was a real shame given the excellent ingredients and all the attention that had been put into the food preparation.

Popped in after a meal for a couple of pints. This place would be a 4/5 star as it is very nice but at 7.00 for a pint of Camden Lager I can't give it anymore than a 3 star which is a real shame. Point to note is most places in Tunbridge Wells were very expensive for drinks, food was roughly what you expect these days

Surprisingly nicer menu than what my impression was outside. With vegan variations.

Unfortunately I went in at 4pm and the floors were being mop and my drinks took 30mins and by the time it all got called out my food was stone cold. I felt unwelcome here. The store manager rolled her eyes at me when I walk in the door and so did the blonde barista while we sat at a table and she couldn’t mop. I was hight disappointed as when we used to come in it was all so cheerful with gabbi and the rest of the team. I’m so sad that this happened as it’s treat for us

An extremely pleasant place. You sip juice or a cola and you are surrounded by beautiful flowers from all sides.
