Excellent tea and cakes. Tea was full of flavour - both the English and the Earl Grey. The Bakewell Tart was superb - one of the best I’ve tasted. Very pleasant service and dogs welcome. The building is C17th and has real character.

The good bit - the cream tea, service and price were good. The bad bit - we were met at the door, by the owner in the most extraordinarily unfriendly and unwelcoming manner. Because of this, I assumed they were closed and had to ask if they were actually open. Without giving us a proper answer, she turned on her heel and dismissed us. I felt quite insulted. Curious way of running a business.

As always, we were well looked after by Jan, Gary and the rest of the staff, greeted with big smiles and cheery hellos. We were asked if we want our usual table, or the garden. We code the garden for our Jireh House Afternoon Tea. It is our guilty pleasure when visiting. The food as always was delicious and made with care, we chose the slice of cake we wanted and then had the warm scones and jam, enough tea to sink a battleship. We left there barely able to move. We’ve eaten evening meals there too and can’t make a single complaint about anything, highly recommend.

A quaint place, with 1964-type decor. A very good example of a certain kind of retro I.W. venue, defined on one local website as "historical re-enactment" style. The food is fresh and tasty, and certainly not trendy. Best of all, to me, was that the salad garnish was just that - a tiny side-portion, and not something overwhelming the entire meal! The young member of staff was doing her best to be friendly and efficient, but the two older staff members appeared to be brisk and offhand. Undaunted I persevered in trying to be friendly and pleasant, eventually realising they simply shared a tinder-box dry sense of humour! Two particular oddities were the coffee machine, which made amazingly loud noises at each stage of the brewing process, and the complete lack of signage to the toilets (they are upstairs), meaning that every customer who needed them had to traipse to the counter and ask. Perhaps this, too, was part of the re-enactment...

Still excellent after many years, quality & service still spot on. Run by the owner & very excellent friendly staff. Have been visiting Jireh for many years and the food, service & atmosphere is still as good as it has always been. The new conservatory is a great place to dine. Proper home cooking, which is rarely available these days, not open every evening, so book to avoid disappointment.

This a great example of why businesses fail on this Island. A poor product and poor service. Sandwiches made with Medium Sliced Own label bread from Tesco. Yes. No crusty slice of sourdough or tiger batch here so be warned. The crisps were missing on the plate but they didn’t forget the teaspoon of chopped lettuce. Nice. The fizzy drinks tasted like out of a 2 ltr bottle. Flat. No ice. No lemon…. The whole thing reminded me of a packed lunch I would take to school when I was 8. All served by a couple of … well what can I say. A lemonade experience with a champagne price tag. Only taking money cause the good places get full quickly at busy times. So beware… And we live here,

We decided to try these tea rooms as looked traditional. The tea rooms were busy and we were just about to leave when a waitress told us we could go in the conservatory. When entering the two tables had reserved on them but we were assured that was because they don’t use them unless busy. The waitress took our order of 2 cream teas. (A scone jam cream and a pot of tea). The scone was very small and had cinnamon in which didn’t go with the jam and cream. 3 ladies came on the next table and the waitress got their order wrong twice. We decided to leave as it seemed chaotic. I approached the till and the 2 waitresses were trying to sort something out and ignored me. No apology and when asked for payment the waitress asked more than the menu price but when I mentioned this corrected it. Didn’t enjoy our visit at all. We didn’t consider value for money and would not recommend.

After consultation from TA I thought I'd try my luck at a family walk in. We were greeted with a smile from a nice gentleman who allowed us to choose our table (we chose the lovely conservatory as it was a sunny day). They took our order and the food was brought out swiftly. The kids sausage and chips was very generous and they met our request of additional peas (for the veg tick in the box to appease our parental guilt). The homemade fish cakes were lovely and they gave us 50% extra free due to "their error" - gratefully appreciated. I had the plaice which I wasnt sure if it would be frozen and breaded. Nope it was lovely fresh fish cooked to perfection. What a pleasant surprise. In summary, try this place for lunch, cake or even just a coffee (which was also excellent) and you wont be disappointed.

Well filled with prawns as well, definitely not stingy and a choice of sauce (I love the Rosemarie sauce, it's superb. As a yachty we join other such folk and sail to local ports and descend en-masse on a local restaurant for dinner. Jireh House coped very well with all the mixed requirements of the group. A lot of us had pre-booked which helped. They managed to get all the food out in a reasonable time - for a group of about 23 of us - well done! The food was good, and freshly cooked. Only hiccup was a request for a well done steak which had to go back and be recooked as it was still pink in the middle. They addressed that request promptly and efficiently. As a tea room the deserts tend to be cake (a good range) with cream (runny or clotted), ice cream or if you ask nicely - custard. They also offer a good range of wines.

We were out on the Island Breezer and stopped off at Yarmouth for a bite to eat. We have been here before and I had THE best prawn baguette I have ever eaten with a bowl off home made chips. IT WAS FABULOUS. The people were so very friendly and the service was great. Definitely worth a visit.

My weekly business trip to the Isle of White is never complete until I've visited these tea rooms. Always a pleasure, whether I take scones, cakes or a full meal. I recommend a cream tea here, where the scones are made on site. Accompany this with a pot of Earl Gray and you'll be as delighted as I often am.Pleasant staff, sweet landlady and quaint surroundings, not to mention a beautiful 17th century building.

Jireh house is a regular outing at least once a year to monitor that the standard of their cream tea has not slipped. They never disappoint! Real home made scones, generous portions of cream and jam in glass dishes - no plastic pots here! Cosy dining room or airy conservatory to choose from.

Took pot luck here when visiting recently on the classic bus/beer weekend. Nice ambience and friendly staff. We sat in the main restaurant which was very quiet but the conservatory was popular. I had a very good crab salad - plenty of it - but had to ask for dressing. I also sampled the local beer also very good. My husband had a bacon sandwich which was ok but nothing special. Good value so with a visit.

I have visited this restaurant/tea room on several occasions, and when visititng the Island with friends, it's a place we usually call in on.My wife and I did so again this week on a day trip to Yarmouth, and as always the tea room lived up to expectations. I always appreciate a cheery greeting, and an owner who is happy to engage in a modicum of chatter. As always the service was very good, the cakes excellent and the coffee as you would expect. It was in fact just a very nice place to go and sit awhile and enjoy some delicious light refreshment.

Popped in here for a quick sandwich before catching the ferry. The two ladies who were serving knew we were in a hurry and bent over backwards to make sure our food and drink arrived quickly - very generous with the cream and jam they gave us to takeaway with our scones.

Slightly eccentric but a useful addition to Yarmouth's hostelries and restaurants. The menu is perhaps rather too wide-ranging but the seafood was good and generous. Perhaps better for lunch and tea than dinner but rewarding nonetheless.

Went in for a quick salad lunch. Salads OK but tasteless and no dressings offered. Lemonade was Tesco Value standard - disgusting. Service slow and unskilled - and a compulsory 50p surcharge for a debit card - in a cafe!!! As we waited the waitress picked fights with 2 people about tea pot size and slowness of service. Could be a good place but spoiled by Basil Fawlty style management.

When I first arrived on the Isle of Wight in 2004, I stumbled in here late on a rainy afternoon in low season, not expecting much, but grateful to find anywhere still open. It became the first tea room I'd found that I thought was worth a repeat visit, and I believe it's still under the same ownership. Jireh House itself is a charming old building and the whole place has a delightful old-fashioned air (despite the slightly jarring note of the modern silkscreen prints in the conservatory). I've never had a proper meal here, but the cream teas are good quality and good value -- and because it gets so busy, there are often scones still warm from the oven as the kitchen replenishes the supply. If you sit in the courtyard garden at the end of summer/beginning of autumn, watch out for falling apples!

A light lunch of homemade hummus (OK but nothing special) and a crab sandwich which was outstanding. Nice coffee. We sat at the front but there is a nice conservatory and a small leafy garden at the rear too. Pleasant central location. Reasonable on-street parking outside.

Usually visit this place for a tea/cake when on the island but decided to have a meal here this time.Despite the place being empty late afternoon (it was early season) they had everything on the menu, salad was good and my fish was nice enough even if it did take some time to arrive.Staff were friendly too which is always a help.Wouldn't put anyone off....

We stopped for light refreshments on Saturday afternoon. We sat in the conservatory and I had coffee and fruit scone, which were pleasant enough. My husband ordered a beer and Macaroni cheese and received a large serving which he thoroughly enjoyed!

Ordered an Americano, it arrived in a scratched latte glass which I found most unusual. It was tasteless and watery, absolutely awful. Especially when they charged £2.55 for it!!Fruit scone was claggy and very oddly had copious amounts of cinnamon in it, had to send it back. Just dreadful.Soup was watery and tasted more like a cheap potato soup from a tin than a chowder as it was advertised. Sandwiches were average. Will never be returning, over priced and awful food.

We usually eat in the good value Gossip's Cafe when in Yarmouth but could not get in so tried here instead. I had a pot of tea which was excellent and with the accompanying jg of hot water gave me five good cups. My son had a large macaroni cheese which he said was good and came with chips.. My daughter had a very small, thin toasted cheese sandwich. I had a very poor ploughmans. - small piece of cheese, silverskin onions (not proper pickled onions) no apple, wilted lettuce. My wife had a supposed Greek salad - no cucumber and no dressing, They don't seem to have any concept of dressing for salad at all. It was just a few lettuce leaves and a bit of tomato as was my mother in law's salad. The Feta cheese had a peculiar lemon washing up liquid taste too it and was inedible. Not particularly cheap either. Good value for a pot of tea but the rest was not exciting. We won't be returning.

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food

This is a great 'out of the way' place to stop and have a quick bite to eat or drink, the cafe is set in the grounds of the abbey and there is seating inside and out. A lovely location on any day. There is a small menu of food available. Plus homemade cakes and hot drinks
