We used to eat at this pub before it closed and was sold, so we were expecting similar high standards from the new owners - but we were disappointed. Saturday evening was busy, with the staff being fully occupied. Starters were good (ham hock and goats cheese) but the ribeye steaks were poor quality meat and were very under-cooked (had to send both of them back for a second spell on the grill). The chips were unusual, like mashed potato inside a crispy coating. Anyway, at £150 for four people, I didn't think it was good value for money.

This pub is on a level above the ordinary pub. I had the rump of lamb, cooked to my liking with veg etc and I couldn't fault it. Pudding was a date and walnut pudding and custard. I thought our meal was good value given the high standard of food, setting and service.

A lovely restaurant and the food and staff were great. I only have one issue with this place though. My wife is a vegetarian and the choice of options for her was none existent. Two meals were on the menu and tell me if you're a vegetarian and have never heard of these meals before ! Haloumi Burger and wait for it Vegetable Lasagne. Come on Mr or Mrs Chef, have a bit of imagination. Please don't let this put you off visiting. As I say it's a lovely place and my non vegetarian food was excellent, just go in the evening when the selection seems to be so much better.

Vastly overrated place, how it is rated so highly on trip advisor we honestly do not know, we visited just before it closed and not surprised it did, food was very average, the pies my partner and me had were over cooked, pastry rock hard and bland to taste, the place looked shabby inside and out and staff didn't show us any professionalism in fact we felt ignored, if we wanted anything we had to keep going to the bar despite there being a girl waiting tables, farmers near the bar area were crass in the language used which seems to be a popular thing in the neighbouring pub also and we just didn't enjoy our visit. Not a cheap place either.

This pub is lovely. I was so happy to hear that they had decided to re open. I visited a few times before the closure and it was fantastic. On return in didn’t disappoint. The staff are lovely, the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced for the quality. I wish the owners all the success in the world and I’ll definitely continue to support this wonderful pub.

Nice country pub, but our table was in a small room at the back next to the entrance., every time someone came past I had to pull the chair in slightly. Annoying would be a understatement. Food was good, but nothing special. We felt everything was rushed. The big question is would you return or recommend. No.

Been 2 years since the last visit here. So very happy that the high standards are still very much there. Staff polite, professional and attentive, Chef chap is just rocking it with his crew, even came out to check on a silly food allergy. Very much appreciated. Food. OMG Starters of Ham Hock, Prawns, Mains of Hake with Gnocchi, prawns in a genuinely fantastic sauce. Far too much, but made it. Apple pie and a cheesecake to finish. Prices very reasonable to be fair. Yup. Will be back again. Chris.

The entrance should have warned us What to expect.. leaking foul drain over entrance road, filthy dirty door at entrance. The whole place needs a through clean, you could see into the kitchen and the floor was filthy under the serving counter. Meal was terrible microwaved beef ciabatta and beef couldn't eat it and refused to pay for it. Beer I drank half a pint and left it.. Just don't bother this place needs a serious shake up and deep clean.

This was our first visit to the Jervis Arms, having recently moved to the area. We decided to visit as had read very many great reviews about the pub. We were not disappointed! From the moment we opened the front door, the atmosphere drew us in, it was so cosy and inviting with lovely cosy lighting, roaring log burner and lots of candles. The tables were very well spaced out and all covid rulings were adhered to. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and everything was done covid efficiently without sacrificing any of the nice touches. We were made to feel very relaxed throughout the meal and the ladies who were serving were extremely polite and obliging. My husband had the special -Flat iron steak which was a very choice piece of meat, very nicely presented with quality sides. I had the pie of the day - chicken and pulled pork, which was a hearty pie packed with meat in a lovely sauce. What a substantial meal, served with lovely roasted veg and chips! Could not fault. We will be back!.

A small family meal to celebrate a 60th birthday. Covid-distancing meant the six of us had our own private dining room. A lovely atmosphere created by a fine dining table, old but comfortable chairs, proper candlesticks and candles. Old school lovely. And excellent, excellent food. My personal highlight was a proper home-made beef shortcrust pastry closed pie, with excellently cooked vegetables and delicious gravy. It might sound simple, but it was done so very well, as was all the food. The menu might not look too fancy, but everything is done superbly. How often have you been to a restaurant with very high food aspirations, but which fails to achieve those heights, and ultimately disappoints? The Jervis Arms has more modest food aspirations, but achieves them above and beyond. Well done them. Thank you.

The team have done a fantastic job, creating a Covid safe environment and service without sacrificing any of the atmosphere and friendly service we experienced before. This is a traditional style pub, cosy with a good atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming. The food is exceptional, with attention to detail. The steak and ale pie was out of this world, the vegetables good to perfection and the chips perfect and by the look and taste triple fried - it all came piping hot. The pub doesn't look much from outside but it's in a wonderful rural setting. Considering the high quality of food, the prices were very reasonable. I'll be going back for sure.

Impromptu visit tonight. We’ve never eaten here before, shame on us! Welcoming warmth from the huge fires in the Autumn rain and smiley relaxed staff. All Covid safe and adhered to. I had the Jervis Arms pie, tonight it was Lamb. Mmmmm it was delicious. The pastry was superb and the meat was tender and melted, I was determined to finish it. Hubby had the fish and mushy peas. Again the fish was huge and really good amount of meat. We had our arms twisted for the brownie dessert. It’s was just as nice. Hannah was brilliant, made us giggle and relaxed us. Very well priced for the amount and standard of food. May just have taken over the Lazy Trout and The Reform for us!

Just back from a wonderful evening at the Jervis Arms. Food was fantastic and great portions, compliments to the chef and his team.It was a real pleasure to be in a pub environment where the staff interact with you, not all stuffy and grumpy like some places. Nicky, Shaun and Hannah are a real credit to the Jervis Arms, so much so we have booked again for Friday night. As good as the food was we would have probably tried somewhere else had it not been for them.Looking forward to Friday x

We hadn't planned to stop. As we passed the Jervis Arms the sunny garden looked too inviting, so we turned back. A couple of fine ales and then the most delicious home-made chicken bacon & mushroom pie, with home made chips and a decent selection of vegetables. Couldn't fault it, lovely food, thank you.

We were doing the Chrome Hill walk and called in for a drink before setting off. The ladies in the cafe were so welcoming, giving advice on the walk and even lending me a walking pole. This is a quaint, traditional tearoom with homemade cakes, quiches etc. Everything coming out of the kitchen was fresh and delicious. As a community hub there was also local produce to buy, including items to raise money for mountain rescue. Charming little place, well worth a visit, and even better when we bought cakes to bring home too - lip smackingly good!

We were staying over in Leek on a Sunday evening, wanting to sample some Staffordshire oatcakes the following morning, but the oatcake shop we wanted was closed on Monday! Poor planning. But luckily this place was open at 7.30 am and we found what we wanted here: oatcakes with various fillings such as bacon or tomato; all with cheese. If you've not tried them, Staffordshire oatcakes are very different to the Scottish biscuit that most people associate with 'oatcakes'. Here, they are a soft, flexible wrapper like a pancake, or perhaps a chapatti, made from a thin layer of a yeasted oatmeal/wheat batter griddled until it sets, then wrapped around your chosen filling. We took a pair of oatcakes with cheese and bacon, and a full English of 2 eggs, 2-3 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 toast, beans and tomatoes, plus extra hash browns. This was all in a takeaway tray - there is no table service here. It took about 10 minutes, which is fair enough as everything is cooked to order; but we were the only customers at that time. I imagine at busy times there could be quite a wait. The food was excellent, piping hot as you'd expect with it being cooked to order; and good value too, under £10 for the 2 breakfasts described above, though coffees added a bit more. Highly recommended.

Both the steak and chicken dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. Though they didn’t look like large portions, they were surprisingly satisfying. The candied carrot cheesecake was absolutely lovely, while the banoffee pie didn’t quite meet my wife’s expectations—perfect excuse for a swap! In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
