The very best things are the view and free parking. Staff are friendly. Location is good for dog lovers - there were lots of them in the cafe. Otherwise maybe we were unlucky but in the end we felt it was neither very cheap or cheerful: our baguettes were soggy. The wooden tables outside were a bit rickety and sometimes broken in places.

Cafe definitely needs some tlc. Windows could do with a good clean and dead flies removed. Expected a more varied menu. On a very hot day a nice salad or ploughman’s would have been nice but ended up with chips and cup of tea. Young girl handing out the food was friendly but counter staff were very stoney faced no smiles of manners. Such a wast of a beautiful location, could be so much more.

Underwhelming. If I had seen the poor food hygiene rating before I went I would have avoided. Also a menu that couldn't spell sandwich correctly should have been a warning. I won't be back I'm afraid.

This cafe is in a beautiful location, views over Plymouth Sound. Owners with their 4 legged friends made welcome. On the downside, the man who appeared to be the owner spoke to the young waitress like dirt. Something like 'there was a problem with the teapot, wake up girl' if you need to speak to your staff about a problem, do it away from the customers. I ordered an egg mayo sandwich for lunch. The eggs had obviously just been boiled and the eggs and the mayo were hot. Ugh.

We walked from bovisand chalets to Jenny cliff , location is superb with views over the sound , the building however is very neglected, staff scruffy that look disinterested, we had 2 cream teas with push button machine coffee ( no barista skills needed) and what has to be said a really excellent scone and clotted cream, toilets are very old and tired but pretty clean. This place should be a magnet for the day tripper tourist but probably isn’t .

So, as we are coming to the end of the Summer, I took a drive over to Jennycliff. I love it there and the views are amazing. I have eaten here before, but the food I chose this time was really not good. They had no pasties, so, I chose an egg mayo sandwich from the menu. When I have an egg mayo sandwich, I expect either a sliced or diced egg, with mayo between two slices of bread. This bad boy came out as scrambled egg with mayo added. It came out in a polystyrene tray (the sort you get chips in) and it was HOT.... I really do hope this was a blip.

Although a lovely view, we found the cost very expensive nearly £27 for 2 breakfasts and a drink plus a pound extra for toast!. Staff friendly but place look tired and could do with a revamp, plus some of the breakfast wasn't up to standard will not be visiting again any time soon.

We had intended to go into the cafe yesterday whilst out for a walk, however, decided not to after noticing the following:- before going in, I went to the toilet at the side of the building, and noticed an out building with a filthy floor containing very old fridges. The edges and frames of the kitchen windows were wide open, and covered with thick black grease and there was a smell of rancid fat. Also an old sofa at the side of the building had dirty tea towels hanging on it The hygiene rating - which is not displayed - is only 1…….. management of food safety - Major improvement required. This is very worrying and as a result we decided not to eat here. It is such a pity as it could be so much better.

Normally OK but on arrival we noticed a lot of people including behind the service counter had their coats on After a few minutes sitting down browsing the menu we realised why It was absolutely freezing in there, two minutes later we had to leave The lack of heating was obvious when you look around we couldn't see any sort of heaters The location of this cafe is unchallenged when it comes to the view over plymouth sound Maybe its time to flatten the old shack and replace it But have to say its fine during the warmer months

Visited at lunch time, to try their cooked meals. It was busy. Coffee was nice. While waiting for our food, a young woman came in. She sat on the sofa and sat a dog on the sofa next to her!! When her breakfast came she was feeding the dog off her plate!! Disgusting! We know this is a dog friendly cafe. we have a dog ourselves. But...dogs belong on the floor. I pointed it out to the tall blonde lady, her reply was....well what can we do, they probably do that at home! Suggestion, trying saying.....we love dogs here but please keep them on the floor.!! This put us off eating there, shame really as the staff are nice. The food was good .

It was our first ever visit to this beautiful place. The coastal view was amazing. The food was very good and of high quality. I made a mistake in making a complaint (I put my hands up), but the staff were very good and understanding. They gave me and extra egg, and did not charge, even though I offered to pay. It may have been just an egg, but their service has wine me over. Great job guys. I highly recommend this place

We have had scampi here before and it was very nice. The salad that comes with it is dreary. We decided we’d have three portions of just scampi, and just one plate of cheesy chips to share. We asked about the cost and was told £2.50 for the scampi on its own. We queried that as it seemed very cheap and were told that’s correct for three portions of scampi. We took our seats and waited to see what we got. Low and behold three pieces scampi, not three portions. Told the chap who brought it out that we wanted three portions of scampi, not three scampi. Off he went to get the order sorted properly. However, on biting into the scampi we had been given, not one of them was cooked right through. Crispy on the outside and raw in the middle. I went back into the cafe and cancelled the order for the three ‘portions’. It was bad enough having three undercooked scampi. We did not want three portions of undercooked scampi. Moral of this story - don’t go in here when it is busy and expect to get properly cooked food and don’t expect the youngsters working behind the counter to understand what you mean by the term ‘portions’ Their loss though.

We always go to Jennycliffe cafe when we visit Plymouth, and this year's visit was as enjoyable as ever.We noted that the window glazing units had been renewed so there was a clear view of Plymouth Sound rather than the old "misty" view, though nothing much else has changed. The facilities are basic, and menu adequate for the host of walkers and sightseers that constantly fill the tables in good weather and bad. We watched a thunderstorm move round the Sound and enjoyed our coffee while sitting in the dry and seeing bedraggled walkers appear with obvious relief on their faces to reach the cafe, which is up on the cliff and open all year round.

We arrived just after 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon hoping for a Cream Tea as we were in Devon! There were a number of staff members slumped behind the counter and a sign on the counter saying the kitchen was closed.A man was vacuuming the carpet. We went up to the counter to inquire about a cream tea and were told they only had cheese scones. Two of us opted for these as we were starving. The rest of our party of 7 decided to just enjoy the view outside. The scones looked really nice but were actually like part baked lumps of dough. A disappointment indeed. The toilets were diabolical, an insult to customers. This place needs taking down and a new building and new management put in it's place. This is such a missed opportunity as the location and view are to die for.

We went to Jennicliff Cafe today for lunch. We both had pasty and tea, however, the pasty was only just luke warm and the tea was not of good quality. The cafe only had a couple of windows, which on a very warm day like today, should have been open. The cafe was probably less than half full, which was just as well, with no fresh air to breath.I did notice that when customers had left and their tables were cleared by the staff, not one member of staff wiped the tables down. The condiments on our table looked like they hadn't been wiped over for a while. On looking around at the pictures on the wall, where we sat, they were full of dust, so not sure when they were last dusted.Outside the cafe, on the grass was a lot of waste, if l were the owner of the cafe, l would make sure it looked clean and tidy as first impressions count.Overall we found it very disappointing therefore won't be going back again

Thought we would pop up to the cafe for a bite to eat as we hadn't been there for a while. It didn't look good as we approached the place, as there was rubbish strewn all over the place around the bins.As we went inside, it didn't seem very full which was unusual, as there were usually lots of people sat outside, and a fair few inside, especially during the summer.I ordered a pasty and cup of tea for us both, and sat down while we waited for the food to arrive. It only took about two minutes before the two parties arrived, with a small amount of salad on each plate (lettuce, one piece of cucumber, one slice of tomato). The pasties were only slightly warm, and I guess they'd been microwaved for a few seconds.Looking around the place, it seems quite dirty, there was filth all over the pepper pot, the table didn't look like it had been wiped, and there was dirt/dust all around the pictures and wooden architrave on the wall next to us.It would also help if they opened a window or door to let some fresh air in, as it seemed very stuffy.Very disappointing as we used to enjoy visiting the cafe. I'm guessing it's changed hands as we didn't see any of the familiar faces up there, they were all new to us.Will not visit again.........

Grotty and unhygienic. Tired and dated. Doggy saliva covered tables outside. Stuffy and stale inside. The views and location are the only things going for this place. If it was in the middle of town we would never go near it. Too much like a basic greasy spoon cafe. Ordered coffee and a pasty. Tony, the proprietor is very cheerful, very helpful as are all of his staff. The prices are reasonable and there is a wide range of food available. The view of another contributor here is very unfair suggesting this is a typical greasy spoon. It's nothing of the sortI'd suggest it's typically seaside. I have visited Jennycliff Cafe since i was about 12, some 56 years ago, then it was a greasy spoon type venue but now it is a well used and well loved local institution which I hope will be around for many more years

This cafe on the coastal footpath has spectacular and panoramic views across the whole vista of Plymouth sound and Drake's Island, taking in views across the Hamoaze, Plymouth Hoe and on a clear day Cornwall. The cafe provides basic cafe hot foot and snacks, freshly cooked and good price. Staff friendly and helpful. Seating inside and benches outside. Limited parking by cafe but large free carpark on otherside of road. All day cooked breakfast very popular with locals. Access to the small beach now open. Dog friendly which may not suit everyone. Open 7 days. Cash only.

We love the location of this café at Jennicliff, and always visit it when we stay in Plymouth. The views over the Sound are hard to beat, and the parking is free. The staff are friendly and the food is basic but well cooked. It's not the best looking building, and the customer toilet is basic, so the whole experience doesn't merit 5 stars. On the other hand all the basics are adequately covered, and cleanliness seems fine.

I visited this café after it was recommended to me by a fellow shipping photographer when I was in Plymouth. The ham sandwich and can of drink that I ordered to take away cost me £4.20 and it was very tasty. The café also serves hot food including breakfasts. There are some amazing views to be had overlooking Plymouth Sound and of the ships going to and from Plymouth.

Basic cafe with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Ample seating inside. Very fairly priced. A cuppa and a toasted teacake £2. Lovely. Makes it affordable to make it a treat as and when. Thankyou.

Visited here on a showery day with great views over Plymouth sound. Huge showers, so the warm dry cafe was excellent. Their pasties were big good pasty and a decent filling. Good teas and an excellent hot chocolate. Also a dog friendly cafe......

Visited cafe on 16/0202017 with daughter, wife and mother-in-law. Found a table after waiting about 5-10 minutes as cafe was busy on day. Ordered cheese sandwich, pastie and chips, stew and sausage roll and chips. Told out of sausage rolls so ordered scampi and chips instead. Given order number 34 and waited for number to be called out. Cheese sandwich and pastie and chips arrived. About 5 minutes later scampi and chips arrived and about 10 minutes later the stew arrived. I had nearly finished my pastie and chips by the time the beef stew arrived. I was shocked that the meals did not all arrive at the same time. The meals were cheap eats yet you would think it not too differ cult to ensure all meals to arrive at same time. The carpark needs resurfacing and you can eat outside. Lovely view but be prepared to wait for any order as order 36 had all their order before us.

I love pasties, I also love friary mill pasties. I’m a regular here and can not fault any of the staff, their customer service is always polite cheerful and overall just good. The only issue is there has been multiple times where I’ve purchased a pasty took a bite into it and there’s been nothing but a huge chunk of steak inside, I’m not talking about a little chunk I’m talking about the whole inside of the pasty is just one big ball of steak. I find it happens the most with the cocktail pasties. Not a fault of the staff but just some feedback!

Sit right next to the sea to dream & relax, & enjoy excellent coffee, cakes & absolutely delicious bacon baps. The family team who run this are always super friendly & welcoming. We can't stay away.

Cracking fish and chips. Always freshly cooked, always great quality and always piping hot. The portions are huge too. Can’t ask for more from a takeaway.
