Jeera in Amber Valley

We have used Jeera for years and have always been highly satisfied. We are local to the restaurant and often visit. We have visited 3 times in the last two weeks and the food has been more amazing than ever. Fantastic food and welcoming staff.

We were staying in an AirBnB a few doors down and were recommended this restaurant by the locals in the pub. The food is absolutely delicious - so much flavour / great ingredients- particularly loved the balti and the pashwari naan. Service is excellent too. Highly recommend.

Wouldn’t bother dining in, service is crap. Mixed grill had mostly chicken, when asked if we could take the remaining food home with us, we were told we couldn’t take the sauce (despite paying for it). The waiter then took our drinks away even though my partner hadn’t finished his, and I was about to pour a small glass of wine (byob) to wash down the food. Moments after we had tapped our card on the card reader we were told we needed to leave as they needed the table, despite only being there for 35 minutes. Then told we could only have the sauce if we left right away. Having spent £43 on 2 main meals and a glass of lemonade you would think we would be treated accordingly. When we got home, I opened the pot of food we’d brought home, and they had squished the naan bread into the curry sauce pot. I am not impressed at all and certainly wouldn’t eat here again, prices are ridiculous for the service you receive.

Fantastic meal with great service. We had a superb meal and the service was exemplary. Very flavoursome food which was piping hot. We had the best naan breads we're ever tasted! A wonderful evening all round, would not hesitate in returning.

We have had a few take aways now and all have them have been excellent. They have even cooked dishes not on the menu to our requests. A great asset to the local community.

I visited here recently to get a take away in Crich. The food was very average and very watery which was a shame. Coming from London I am used to good quality vibrant flavoured curries but it was more like a supermarket ready meal. They don’t serve alcohol as they have no licence so the price of a Fanta needs to be added to your mortgage .. ridiculous! Jeera look after people as we will not be back if you try and take advantage of us. Poor.

Very nice curry. My husband couldn’t find what he wanted on the menu and the chef happily made the curry my husband described. Good portion and good price. To date it’s the second best curry I’ve ever had. (After Eastern Spice in Loughborough) Cooked extra hot so the food wasn’t cold by the time we got it back to our lodge (delivery is available but we chose to collect-10% discount if you collect your food yourself).

Since my Feb 2020 review, we have returned twice for takeaways. The system under Coronavirus lockdown has been streamlined and is now very efficient, with plenty of space (no eating in, of course). Staff were helpful on the phone on a busy Saturday, and the Gluten-free difficulties seem to have been ironed out. The card machine glitch is also now rectified, thank goodness. On 9 April we had a long wait; on 9 May the time from order to collection was barely 20 mins, which is impressive. My partner's Chicken Pakora starter, Imli Bemisal main and Plain Naan were all described as "very good". On 9 April, we shared a starter of Onion Bhajis and these were lovely. Salad garnishes, chutneys and Raita all arrived pleasantly presented in individual pots.On both occasions I ordered a main of Lamb Pasanda. The 9 April one was superb, just as a Pasanda should be, dryish in flavour with a rich interesting finish. The 9 May one was also good, but very different - a lighter colour and flavour, rounded, milder and more dominated by (?) coriander. Two different chefs perhaps ?Both these meals were greatly enjoyed. The discounts are not being operated exactly as on the takeaway menu, so it would be a good idea to re-issue that menu to make it more accurate. Apart from that, value was generally great, and we will certainly be back. Well done to the team for working out the system in difficult times, you deserve local support !

Staff were friendly and helpful.We had to wait wait forty minutes for our meal, even though the resturant was half empty, as it appeared that take-away customers were taking priority.There were no vegetarian options for main courses and was advised by the waiter that anything on the menu could be vegetarian. I selected the more expensive Chefs SpecialWhen we eventually received our meals one of our party's meal was not what he ordered and I am afraid my mine was what appeared, and tasted, to be tinned veg and mushy sprouts. Well. Very sorry that Midge has had to leave. BUT. He has left the restaurant in superb hands. Still the very best in the area. Changes have been made but they are certainly for the better. Following the Jan 2020 change of management, we'd seen mixed responses. After a hard working day we needed a takeway, so decided to try the new setup. The bad news is that there is allegedly still no card machine (this has been going on for months, and there's something suspicious about it). Worse still, we had to pay by BACS online. If there is a card machine problem the least they can do is accept cheques (we were low on cash). One other difficulty was making Gluten-free needs clear - initially this was not well understood, but we got there in the end.The better news is that our takeway was promptly available on collection, the staff friendly and helpful and the food good. My Lamb Pasanda was one of the best I've ever had and my partner's Chicken Karahi he also described as "very tasty, great". Portion sizes are generous.If I had to recommend action it would be to remedy the card machine situation ASAP and to train the staff in Gluten-free needs; for example, don't put a poppadum (which is full of wheat) in the bag for the Gluten-free person. It would also be a good idea to improve the range of soft drinks (Schloer, Appletiser, Rose Lemonade,a good range of caffeine-free fruit teas). But we will be back.

I must say, we’ve been coming to Jeera fairly regularly for a while and have always been impressed with the food, but the meal we had tonight was better than anything I have had there before. It feels like the whole place has been upgraded from the decor to the food and even the presentation of the food. The staff are great too. We were very impressed. Look forward to returning soon.

Greeted with a warm welcome and a busy restaurant- it was a Wednesday night! The service was attentive and friendly, we all had different meals with delicious naan breads & agreed it was the nicest we’d tasted with fresh flavours. Always been a bit hit and miss and takeaways not up to the quality u get in the restaurant but sorely surely last week when a group of us went for my daughter's birthday. Youngest child just coming round to Indian flavours and loved the biriani so ordered that to share with her. So hot even I couldn't eat it. She sat and ate nothing other than a popadom and I left half of mine. Husband didn't enjoy his and daughter felt unwell afterwards. A very expensive night out which we wont be repeating

Called for a takeaway tonight and ordered a chicken Naga not much taste not the best and my cheese and garlic nan was awful undercooked only cooked on one side and so soggy.

We have been visiting Jeera for a long time and never had a bad meal. But just lately the food had been out of this world. Mij has been cooking. He is the best ever and I have eaten curries all over the world. The atmosphere is brilliant, the staff are always courteous, accomodating and always have a smile. Jeera is far and above the best Asian restaurant in the whole area. Try it. You will certainly not be disappointed. Thank you Jeera for excellent food and service.

I have not written a review for Jeera since June 2014. We have been eating out at Jeera pretty much every Friday night since then and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal.

We have been coming here for years despite travelling from far away..because the food is amazingly tasty, the atmosphere friendly, and Midge is just great, whether he's cooking or front of house.

In the past I have them5 stars ,But not sure what's happened,Portions on take away have gone down.I agree with last review.At least card machine is working now,But won't be returning for a while now.Such a shame

Visited to get a takeaway this evening as I live in crich. Now I haven't been for a while as the standards have dropped massively. But thought I'd give them a go again as they're a local business.

The service and food is usually very good but I am so disappointed this evening. Collected a takeaway and when I got home found the portion size to be significantly less than usual. Just 6-7 small pieces of chicken in each of our dishes and dishes under 3/4 full. When I called to discuss the issue I was confronted with disgusting customer service from front of house staff member who basically said it’s their word against mine! Really? Come on Jeera - we are regular visitors and know what we normally receive in terms of food and service.

We booked a table for 11 of us for our daughters 18th birthday. We all had a really special time here and were really looked after attentively by Mige and his team from arriving to leaving. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome.

Another fantastic meal at Jeera in CrIch. Called in tonight with my son and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were treated so well and nothing was too much trouble. Front of House, Midge, was so caring and attentive as always and so too were the waiters. Midge bought us two or three different starters and provided very knowledgeable advice on the main course, what the Chef then did was ‘outstanding’, the best Indian food I have eaten for some considerable time well done Midge, Chef and the Team at Jeera in Crich.

Visited Jeera yesterday & the food was amazing.We had popadoms,main & deserts which were all superb.The price was very reasonable too.My partner on leaving told the staff that it was the best curry ever & I agree,so tasty,hot & plentiful.The only slight criticism is that the walls need a coat of pain but that don’t detract from a great dining experience along with great staff,well done & keep up the great work,we will be returning.

One of the best Indian dining experiences, great food wonderful ambiance and atmosphere, polite friendly staff catering for all tastes this place must rank as one of the finest places in Derbyshire to dine out.

We visited as we was just staying down the road for the Easter weekend break.

We had several evening meals at Jeera and all were very enjoyable. The wonderful staff are exceptional and their priority is to ensure that the customer comes first. They are so very warm and welcoming and made every effort to ensure that our visits were memorable. We will certainly be going there again when we are next in Derbyshire.

The place was packed at 6:30 on a sat night! The service was very good and food served promptly! Quality was good and is not expensive but It’s a bring your own place so no big drinks bill I thought the starters were good and the naan was good too , mains were lamb tikka rogan josh the sauce was a bit bland ! Lacking a depth of flavour ! We would return but choose something different others in the party we’re pleased with their meals.

Having heard so many good things about jeera we were really hopeful for a good curry. What we got was a good korma and an awful tikka Masala. it was watery and tasted of a watered down mango chutney. We tried two more take aways on two separate occasions and unfortunately no better. I thought long and hard about writing a review as I'm generally a positive person but having spoken to a friend who experienced the same watery unpleasant food very recently, I do feel it is a justified review. Such a shame to have a fabulous resource in the village that we won't be returning to

My wife and I had dinner here last week and it genuinely was one of the best meals out we've ever had. Not only was the food great, but Midge and the staff provided truly exceptional service. When we mentioned we were vegan, he talked us through all the options on the menu, ensured we didn't accidentally pick anything non-vegan (apparently pilau rice is out) and even created some special alternatives just for us. I've never been better looked after - it was above and beyond. Stunningly good value for money too. We will be back!

Enjoyed a great evening with friends at Jeera. A genuinely good restaurant that is a bring your own and, clearly, hosts lots of regulars. It was great to hear those regulars being brought dishes that were suggested for them in addition to their selections. All looked great and I will happily be back to try more form the menu.

I went to the Jeera over the Christmas period with a few friends on a recommendation, I wasn’t disappointed, although It wasn’t has busy as I thought it would be the atmosphere was still pleasant, the staff were incredibly friendly and made all of us feel very welcome, We ordered quite a few different dishes all of witch were very well presented and tasted wonderful. This is a really nice place to eat and I would recommend it to anyone.

We booked here for New Years Eve and had the best time

Dined at Jeera last night with some friends. It was very busy (usually is I'm told) and it's fair to say the service was perhaps not quite as quick as it could have been, but no-one was in a hurry and this place is so welcoming and friendly. I like my food on the spicier side and I thought I'd ordered something quite hot. It turned out to be quite mild for me, but it was delicious all the same. I will certainly be back and I think I will ask for a little more heat next time!
