We cannot believe this pub is up for sale and could be gone by the end of the week. As regular home and away supporters of Mansfield Town Football club we have been to many places up and down the country but always make it a good away day by having some lunch and pre match beers in a local spoons. The reason for this is simple. Pubs nearer the ground are rowdy, 10 deep and sell overpriced weak beer in plastic pots. The Spoons Corporation of which we are frequent fliers, offer a more sensible and sedate option. In proper glasses. Location is next to a market, shops and bus station in the town centre with a small car park some 50 yards way (avoiding the bus lane!). First impressions? Busy with a variety of punters and the odd character but hey, its a spoons after all. Clean and tidy, we've been to better but certainly also been to some far worse. We got the feeling it was business as usual and despite no Pepsi been available for our teetotaller driver, it didn't appear to be in the final thoes of an imminent run down. Unusually, the toilets were downstairs and certainly for the gents - I can't speak for the ladies obviously, they could have been the subject of a recent revamp. We ordered food and that came hot and well presented with one of the bar staff kindly bringing over our drinks even though we weren't on the dreaded app. From here it was a steady 15 minute drive down to Bradford FC. Couldn't fault it. A message to the new owners. It isn't broke. Don't try to fix it . If, unlikely as it may seem, we're in the same league next year or even passing through, then we'd have no hesitation in coming back here regardless. Oh, and I know you are keen to hear how the footy went. Well, the Stags thrashed the Bantams 5-1 and all 3 points went back down the M1. Couldn't stop smiling, thanks lads! An all round grand day out Gromit. Tim, IMO you've made a ghastly mistake in wanting to get rid of this one......

Only started coming here recently. Disappointed it's for sale. It always seems busy to me. Usual standard wetherspoons fare....and good selection of ales ..but the people who work here are exceptional. Usually find wetherspoons staff quite cold but here very friendly and welcoming. Not sure of names but table service very prompt. (Danny and Steve? ). Friendly bar service ( Lewis and Chloe..and Shuan ?) Nice young lady with very long hair..... ( Sorry..not sure of your name..Allison?) Anyway.....good staff...good characters...good ambience. I'm sad it's going. Think Tim whatsisname has got this one wrong?

Started coming here in recent months on my way back from work. Just to relax with couple of drinks before home. Usually pop in for breakfast if my bus is late on way to work. It does get diverse reviews but I like it here. It does have its quirky and interesting characters Food is usually good. Had a lovely steak here a few weeks ago. Good selection of ales and the bar staff are very friendly with a smile and very good at their job. Always friendly service.... I honestly think they work hard .

Visited here on 12 Aug with my family, 1st impression was good till we sat down. Table was filthy, had to ask a young lad to clean it, he cleaned table ok...all bits went over my husbands lap! Menu writing was so small you need a magnifying glass to read it. Once we decided what we wanted I went onto app to order food, app asked for table number, well that had been rubbed out so I had to get up and ask for table number. Number 17 I think...that's what bartender said. So I ordered food from bar. The young lad who brought food was lovely but rest of the male staff need an older more experienced manager behind them to tell them what to do as they did not have a clue, a few ppl asked for tables to be cleaned and they need to smile. Everyone of them miserable (apart from lad who brought food) the bar wasn't even that busy. Safe to say it put me off from visiting again.

Where on earth can you get a mixed grill for £3.99 initially thought it was a misprint on the managers special of the day. But it wasn’t so we ordered it expecting it not to be up to much but hey it was excellent. What a bargain. We went back the following morning for breakfast. Again a bargain. A huge breakfast for £5.20 so glad we noticed this because our hotel was charging £10.25 for a basic breakfast.Drinks prices are amazing as well so it made for a very cheap night. It’s a big place as well with an upstairs bar so lots of tables. One thing I would say. There is no system for service at the bar so people that turn up after you can get served before you. This happened to me a couple of times. But apart from that I loved it.

Goose Eye Chinook seems to be a permanent fixture and other excellent Yorkshire ales can also be found. On my visit I was extremely impressed with Elland Winterfell, but I did have a few pints of other excellent ales. Despite being busy, service was fast and friendly. Being a Friday I had the Fishy Friday special which was very good quality. With buses on the doorstep to Bradford, Leeds and Bingley (and the airport) it couldn't be more convenient.

The staff were very friendly even saw one help an elderly gent to the restroom as he was struggling to open the door. Fabulous pub, staff here work harder than any other wetherspoons I've visited. They never stop and are always happy to help. Places like this are hard to find with such a good atmosphere.

Okay......so this is the third time I have been here and want to say third time lucky??? No! It's the same each time ...now I always give things a go a couple times before I review. The last time I got the halloumi wrap the cheese was burnt to almost crunchy remnants! I complained and got oh soz about that!!! Soz??? Wth!! The second time I got tiny pieces of holoumi very close to being burnt again and lettuce!! Nothing else...says u get tomato and cucumber and lettuce I actually got holoumi the sauce and lettuce leaves!!! And why are the chips always almost cold!!!!! The third time was again the same no other ingredients but houlomi salsa leaves oh and onions??!!! Holoumi is gorgeous but not cooked at this one you get tiny ridiculous amounts of it! I love weatherspoons buy sadly will not come here again.

The bar was busy it took a while to get served, and they tended to serve the person nearest rather who was waiting longest. I ordered curry rice and coffee, there was no sweetener for the coffee I asked for some but the girl could not find it. When the meal came it came with chips but I could not be bothered to send it back because I had been there a while by then. The sweetener did appear on the bar later, generally not impressed.

My wife and I called on Saturday for a quiet drink. We paid less than £4 for a pint and a half of beer and were served by two lovely personable girls who knew about the products on offer and made us feel very welcome. We decided to stay, and will go again, as we like cheap drinks, good service and a place to chat.

Tried to watch the news (Election of Trump etc and Tram crash in Croyden UK) whilst having my pint, but there was a ruddy great fruit machine positioned in front of TV so bottom half of screen was obscured so the sub titles could not be seen.Either TV or Fruit Machine needs relocating pronto!

Only went here for a pre- meal drink, prices are cheap but didn't want to stay long. It's a very dark place, lacking atmosphere and needs some money spending on replacing the threadbare seats etc. Staff are ok but don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

I had to come here for dinner as the Noble Comb was closed for a re fit. The choice of food was quite large and some came with a free beer for less than £10.I have the Gammon egg and chips with some bread and butter with a real ale and another one free for less than £10.The pub had two TVs showing news channels so I had something to watch whilst waiting for my food. The quality was good so I might go back next time.

We visited The Sir Norman Rae whilst staying in Shipley. It is dark, gloomy, tired and is in need of some investment on re-decoration & furnishing. It obviously offers the same good value as all the JDW chain - which we strongly support, however, on the Thursday curry night we were served with the wrong curry, the poppadums were undercooked and the the naan breads were overcooked. We ate some of the meal before realising it contained red peppers (which we don't eat), and when we brought our complaint to the attention of the waiter, he showed little interest and never sought to explain or address the issue.

I have frequented The Sir Norman Rae for a few years now, the faces of the staff change but the service remains fairly constant.I have eaten almost everything on the Menu (NOT on the same visit) and been happy with the results.Breakfasts are more than adequate, lunches fit the bill and even the 'Main Meals' are nothing to complain about. (Although there is ALWAYS somebody that will)In the main, pretty good for pub grub ... AND the Ale is ALWAYS spot on.IF there are any problems they are ALWAYS sorted out immediately. Many thanks to ALL the staff, Job WELL done.

Lovely English breakfast at very reasonable cost - under £8 for 2 with 1 tea and 1 coffee, free refills available. Freshly made and tasty, quick efficient service and seemed popular with the locals - unsurprising. Decor a little tired and typical of Wetherspoons, all in all very good value.

We stayed at the hotel for the night so we thought it was easier to eat in the restaurant before we went out as we had an event on at Dalby Forest. When we checked into the hotel we were asked to let them know if we would be having dinner in the restaurant, we said we would be but wasn't sure what time, that was all fine but they said it might be busy. We went down to the restaurant around 6pm and it was dead. There were quite a few in the sports bar but the restaurant itself was empty. There were 2 waiting staff on who both spent most of the time looking at their phones. The menu online was entirely different to what was given to us in the restaurant. The online menu made the food sound a la carte but it was pretty basic, usual pub grub menu- steak, burgers etc. I ordered a medium rare steak and my partner had a burger. My steak was OK and it was probably medium rare but it was quite tough and bland and nothing to be excited about. I cannot remember the exact amount of the total bill but we did think at the time that it was a bit over priced for what it was. Wouldn't recommend unless that's your only option to eat out. Not impressed.

This place seems to divide opinion judging by the reviews but we thought it hit the spot nicely. Yes, the owner does invite you in if he spots you looking at the menu but we felt able to walk away, check a couple of other places and come back with no pressure. Sat out the back where there is lots of Bronte and Railway Children memorabilia on the walls. Even on a dreary day there were decent views over the valley towards Crossroads. In the summer the terrace would probably be lovely. We had homemade lentil and vegetable soup each, two sandwiches served with salad, pot of tea, bottle of water and a toasted tea cake for £25. For Haworth that’s not bad. Food was served quickly and was good, solid, no frills stuff - ideal for a grey autumn day.

Great coffee and cake, but a real shame they stop serving food so early, it was only 2.30pm. Cafe was clean and warm and good value though.
