Staff are great but seemed thin on the ground. The room was nice and reasonably priced. However, poor sound insulation, a window that didn’t quite close, and noisy clientele ( tv blasting so loudly I knew exactly what they were watching and what they thought of it😵‍💫) means that I was awake until 2 am and then woken again at about 6 by a noisy delivery truck in the street outside. No parking for the hotel but you can use the car park in market street.

We stayed here for £56 on a Saturday night what a bargain it was! The room was bigger than expected and received things that a lot of hotels don’t include, such as a flat screen tv! Iron and ironing board! Wetherspoon magazine and food menu! Biscuits and hot chocolate! And a bible… the bathroom was actually a room with a bath which is hard to find at a budget hotel. Everything was clean and we enjoyed our stay! The Wetherspoons itself look brand new a lot of effort put into the design of the place and the food was made aswell as Wetherspoon food can be. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it everyone to come try a Wetherspoons hotel out! 🙂 5 STARS 🌟

This is the 3rd time that I have eaten at this Weatherspoons only to be disappointed again. I ordered a halloumi burger and my friend a curry. I didn’t think that they could go far wrong this time, however… my chips were going cold, had black bits from the fat and some were slightly undercooked, my burger was ok but not the spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ as advertised. My friend said their curry was ok but was served onion bhajis that were so burnt that I actually asked what they were. They were not only very burnt but also very greasy. I told the member of staff that they shouldn’t have been served that burnt but my friend was hungry and ate them. Sometimes it’s really inconvenient to send food back when you need to eat! The member of staff told me that the bhajis were greasy because they were deep fried, I responded that all bhajis are deep fried! He admitted that they were burnt. No offer of making any recompense and I didn’t ask. Later he told my friend that they get it said a lot that the bhajis are burnt! I also asked for another spoon to share dessert and it was brought to us without an extra serviette… 🤷‍♀️ The staff are friendly enough and obviously work hard but maybe inexperienced serving good food. My previous meal I had here was served cold but that’s another story. I have enjoyed many a meal in other Weatherspoon pubs but this one lets the chain down in my opinion. Unfortunately it is the closest one to my home and I gave it one last chance, but I wouldn’t return again. 🥲

Wasn’t planned visit and only spent an evening in Ruthin. Price for two for one night was the most reasonable we found. We unexpectedly travelled up to Ruthin from South Devon and booked the Castle an hour before arrival. The town and area is great, the look of the Castle Hotel is impressive. Rooms great, mixed grill for dinner was great. Staff, super nice, hard working and relaxed. Breakfast was all you would need to start the day off right. thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Sounds like I’m advertising spoons for commission!!! So as a negative, the only thing we found annoying with room 105 was a buzzing sound which disturbed our sleep a bit, we thought it was the next door bathroom fan, we found out it was the electric consumer unit, before going going to bed, If you take your door card out of the “slot” that keeps the electrics on, the buzzing is not as loud, it would mean not having any lights but will be quieter. We’ve given it 5 stars because after a long trip finding this hotel was better than we had expected to find. Ruthin is a really nice place to visit. The Castle is in a great position in the centre of town, parking at the time was right outside. As a sort of bonus, the Castle Hotel was one of only 6 or so of the 55 Spoons hotels to be mentioned in this months Spoons magazine and we just happened to be there!! ( I’m easily pleased). Lovely place with comfortable beds & a great shower - just what we needed to break up a long journey! The whole place was spotlessly clean. The food was good - we had dinner & breakfast. They've a reasonable choice of on-pump craft beers, including local ales. Unfortunately, we were too tired to be able to enjoy them! The staff couldn't have been nicer either. Parking is on-street, though it's unlikely that you'll be lucky enough to find a spot in the square. There's a large public carpark below the beer garden to the rear of the building, though we accidentally parked in the free carpark belonging to the hotel next door, which is apparently closed - oops!

The atmosphere inside was nice and quiet. Nobody was shouting. The bar staff could have been a bit quicker to serve. The menu was varied and sectioned off making it easier to find what you wanted. Payment is taken when you ordered. The food arrived quickly and was hot. There was condiments on a table close by so the table wasn't cluttered. The batter on the fish was very good on both occasions we ate there. Both times we ordered off the smaller plate option but the difference between the fish on the two days was not the same. The new cocktail with R Whites raspberry lemonade was delicious. The only problem I wanted the drink making upto a pint. The member of staff didn't know what to do, so made me two normal sized drinks. If we are ever in Ruthin again we will definitely revisit The Castle Hotel.

Why do I not learn with Wetherspoons?! Why is this hotel not listed under Wetherspoons? I do know what to expect but always think 'it may be better this time'. Can't usually go wrong with their steak meals which are usually very nice; try not to think about the additives to make it taste nice. Arrived during school holidays about 8 pm; very busy. Walked in and out; on the out bit we saw a waitress clearing a table. Sat outside for a bit wondering what to do and returned inside. Yes the table had been cleared, but is it too much to ask the average waitress to carry a cloth with her and clean the table also? Are customers expected to wash the table themselves? Maybe Wetherspoons could hang cloths by the door so I can use them myself (I'm not being sarcastic; it would make my life easier). I could have asked the person at the till to clean it for me (oh yea!); never to be seen again. I could have asked for the waitress to do it on bringing our meals (as if the info would have been passed on!). It was a night for deals, but the relevant info sheet was not on the table, nor was one visible on the wall. We were stuck in a corner in the hot weather (I don't expect such an old building to have air con, but a few openable windows would be good), so we voted with our feet. Will no doubt not bother the coffers of W'spoons, but surely they would have liked my money in their hands as opposed to me taking it away. The manager needs to get back to the floor; these people need to sit at the tables and see things from the customers viewpoint.

We had been staying locally at Ruthin Castle and wanted to nip out for a few drinks that weren't going to cost as much as the bar hotel. We were surprised by how pretty the building was (outside and within) it wasn't your usual Wetherspoons venue! However, some of the usual Wetherspoons complaints resided within - sticky tables and menus, dirty seats and food on the floor. That aside the decoration was lovely and the drinks menu extensive and extremely well priced. We enjoyed a Kir Royale and some unique IPA's - it's a great place if you like real ales and fancy trying a few different types that you might not have come across before.I must also mention the fancy ladies toilets - I don't think I have ever been in a Wetherspoons that has a chaise lounge as you walk in I would recommend this pub for anyone wanting a quiet drink at a great price in nice surroundings

The Castle Hotel is a lovely old building in St Peter's Square. I was in Ruthin to attend a funeral. After the ceremony JD Wetherspoons laid on sandwiches and snacks in a private room. The quality of the food was good and there was plenty to go round. The big downside was the extremely slow service at the bar. We had to wait so long that we almost gave up on ever being served at all.

Went for lunch Saturday afternoon here but ended up walking out. Only table available was cluttered with dirty dishes, food on floor etc...partner had to go looking for someone to clear it... this was half done with "will be back in a minute to clear the rest" so we waited 5 minutes but our waiter did not return.... Another waiter appeared and took an order on the next table... totally ignored.... After a 10 minute wait we walked out... Wetherspoons please clean up your dirty tables I would find it off putting even sitting next to a dirty table... its not a good impression to make on your customers.
