On our way to Barmouth, we called in for lunch. We have been before and liked it for the comfortable surroundings and quality food and drinks. We were not disappointed, we had homemade soup and fish and chips, all good and fair prices.

We had been here before, usually on a sunny day and having a sandwich and a portion of chips outside, enjoying the view. This time the weather was poor so we had a meal inside. Drink orders were taken by a cheerful young server and we placed our order five minutes later. We had to wait nearly 35 minutes for our meals and noticed the two couples that had come in after us ( about ten minutes after us) were served straight after us. The chips were obviously frozen ones, which is fine if the price of the meal reflects this and they are the better " frozen chip". The sides were in ramekin dishes which I totally approve of, I hate meals were the plate is so congested that you are unable to eat your meal without spilling the contents. However I have never seen such small ramekin dishes! Two teaspoons of mushy peas with the fish, two teaspoons of coleslaw with the burger meal; it was certainly a conversation point. No one came to check if the meal was OK there was a general lack of friendliness so yes we were disappointed

This was the only pub open we could find but it was such a find. Cosy, warm and welcoming with the friendliest, helpful staff. Had a lovely table out of the way and everywhere was decorated overly and Christmassy. There was plenty of choice on the menu and all the food was delicious and well presented. Would highly recommend and would definitely go back if in the area.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is by far the worst, most unsettling, uncomfortable and creepy experience I have had to endure whilst eating out. Firstly we were 'welcomed' down numerous steps with a pram, it would have been nice for the boy showing us to our table to have prepared us for the maze of narrow doorways and steps, even perhaps offered a hand instead of waiting rather bemused for us to tackle the obstacle course. Not only were we sat at the furthest table but also next to the most disturbingly rude elderly couple (who I presume are locals or atleast regulars as they bought the chef jelly beans?) After calling the waitress a 'sl*g' as she walked away for forgetting his whiskey, they then proceeded to talk about my partner and I in a perverted and creepy manner within perfect ear shot for us to hear. It was quite clear they had nothing better to do with their lives and had given up any form of civilisation skills. I appreciate this was not the establishments fault however the food was also pretty poor and overpriced, I would have expected homemade bread or just fresh atleast, rather than a stale roll. We would rather have not paid for this abysmal experience however upon leaving we then had to wait and look around for atleast 15 minutes to actually find someone to pay. It is safe to say we will not be returning here and I would advise anyone to steer clear.

Visiting my husbands mum as she’s recovering from a bad fall, thought it would be nice to take her for a bite to eat whilst the sun is shining. Hadn’t been here for quite a while and was pleasantly surprised that it’s a really good place for decent food. Sat outside soaking up the sun with drinks whilst we decided what to eat. It’s not a huge menu to choose from but there is something for everyone including a great choice of roasts for a Sunday lunch. Two roasts and a 10oz Gammon ordered, although it was busy the staff were attentive and food came in a reasonable amount of time. Would definitely recommend. Mid range on pricing, the food was beautifully presented and enough of it to feel full but not over facing.

Stopped as beer garden looked nice. Ordered a Cajun chicken and bacon hot sandwich for £9.50 - looked like off cuts of chicken and bacon tasted awful and came with the smallest salad and about 5 crisps not to mention it was cold. Also got a garlic ciabatta (paid an extra £1 for cheese) and came as only half a ciabatta for £5.95!!! Was hardly toasted more like bread with cheese. Ridiculously expensive. Spoke to the bar lady who sorted it straight away and gave me a new portion with the remaining half of the ciabatta. Wish I asked for my money back. Nice beer but not good food not to mention the price. Worked in the food industry and never had to send food back or write a bad review before.

Popped in for Sunday dinner. Perfect for families and dogs are welcome! Very good service from polite and well informed staff. Lovely freshly cooked food arriving in rather large portions. Beautiful views sitting outside and inside. Definitely worth a visit and you will leave satisfied.

We were picked up from the trail and driven back the next day. Lovely old pub, room absolutely fine, good food, beer and breakfast, perfect.

Very good cooking at this combination pub/restaurant. They have nightly specials which seem very well prepared as well. I opted for the seafood pie which had a little too much potato but still was very good. Pleasant service and good prices.

A local pub for local people. If looks could kill we'd be dead and that was from both the locals and bar staff. Very unusual for a Craft Union establishment, I will not return despite it being cheap.

We stayed here for a stag weekend and the staff were great, the atmosphere was great, and we were super impressed with the food, especially breakfast (veggie brioche - trust me). The hotel was a bit wonky but the beds were comfy, the biscuits were topped up, and the showers were hot. We'd definitely stay again. Thanks Gales!

Food very good, only thing was my grandson wanted gammon but they didn't have any. He went for the steak instead. He really enjoyed it, he's a fussy eater

Hello there ! Just ordered a home delivery fish & chips for 2 persons. Food was great but sadly they don’t add lemon and tartar sauce ! So a bit plain to taste !
