Jay Pur in Cherwell

Had a delivery tonight. It was disgusting. Full of salt, hardly edible. The crowning glory was the charcoal reduced naan bread.

Got a takeaway here. Murgi Massala Arrived quicker than estimated time. Food was really nice. Right levels of spice, and a good flavour. Price was in line with other restaurants. Will start using this one instead of the Vujon. Definitely give it a try, one of the best in Banbury. To the restaurant: I’d have liked the bone cooked murgi to actually come on the bone. Would have made it 10/10 instead of 9/10. But very happy with the food. Thank you

I arrived back ay my hotel to find the restaurant closed for a private event-wandered around Banbury at a bit of a loss for dinner-I'm an older lady travelling alone and felt awkward about eating out on my own. I finally asked a passing lady for a recommendation for something I could take back to the hotel and she directed me to the Jaypur. Excellent guidance! They seated me close to the bar and took my order promptly and then bought me a glass of wine while I waited which they insisted was on the house! Old fashioned courtesy-and the curry was ample and delicious!

Excellent service, fabulous food, Had dinner with a group of friends and I give this a big 5 star rating and highly recommend.

Still the best Indian Cuisine in Banbury after 36 years since I first visited. The best delivery service as well. Amazing food!

We placed an order for collection for three people early evening, about thirty minutes after opening through Deliveroo. We ordered a Chicken Tikka Pathia, with mushroom rice which my Father gives a 4/5, the only complaint being it was slightly greasy. As well as Lamb Tikka Pathia with mushroom rice, which was very tasty, and very rich in flavour which I give 5/5. My Mother ordered a Hot Chicken Dhansak with mushroom rice which she gives 5/5. In addition to this we ordered a garlic naan, onion bhajees and papadams, all of which were tasty. Once ordered the collection time was only twenty five minutes and when arrived only waited one minute till I had the order. Overall can recommend Jay Pur as a great Indian restaurant for takeaway. 🟦 This order was placed through Deliveroo so American Express credit cards are accepted to order, however I am unsure if they are accepted in store if dining in.

What a lovely traditional old style indian restaurant. Looks like it had been family run for year? Great range of dishes and reasonably priced. We eat at an award winning Indian in town so are tough to pleas. Poppadoms were the best I have eaten, firm and crisp. Starters good, mixed kebab a little oily. Prawn purée nice. Mains again were a little oil but tasty. I had the waiters choice lamb jalpuur which was a tenner inc mushroom rice ! Lamb a tad tough. Other dish chicken Malinka was lovely. Rice was nice and the garlic naan yummy. Generous portions…. This and a couple of diet cokes each - £56 Finally a couple near us found their food too spicy the waiter took it away and bought them a second choice, no fuss, no questions, great service.

Really good food and plenty of it. Friendly service. In all a really good experience. If we’re in the area again then its a must !!Highly recommended.

The chicken tikka was awful. The chicken was bland and tasted like processed chicken. The onions were dripping in grease. Not the best this time.

Terrible place. Will never order again. Food was supposed to be 45-60 minutes to delivery, app said it had arrived at 60 minutes, chased them up at 75 minutes to have a rude idiot on the phone. Arrived after 1 hour 45 minutes. Too late, was at cinema. Disgusting customer service

Always have a great meal in Jay Pur. Large portions, authentic cuisine and not a stuffy atmosphere. You can just go for a curry and enjoy some good food with friends.

This place is always busy. The atmosphere is buzzing and lively. There always seem to be really large tables with big parties so definitely a place to celebrate. Wide range of wines and spirits. Great fresh food, efficient service and really comfy seating too.

Recently moved in Banbury from London , this restaurant was recommended by a neighbour, food was fantastic and amazing staff looking forward to visit again.

Always enjoyed Jaypur but my last visit was a massive disappointment - I have always enjoyed a Chicken Jalfrezi but the last time it was inedible as it so heavily laced with chillis and no flavour - I couldn’t eat it and I normally have a high tolerance for chilli - I complained and it went through one ear and out the other and still charged me for a meal I didn’t eat - they lost a loyal customer - never again 👎

Very good Indian food. Friendly staff and prompt service even though they were quite busy as it was the weekend. Recommend the Chicken Chat starter - excellent.

What a meal, absolutely fantastic food with excellent service. Each dish was full of flavour, beautifully spiced and well balanced. The surprise came at the end when they presented the bill which was much lower than we expected. Will definitely be our port of call next time we visit Banbury. 😁

We had an excellent meal last night at this very friendly restaurant. The food was of a very high standard with lovely flavours at a very reasonable price. We would highly recommend this restaurant for the service, the ambience, the quality of the food and the cost.

I've eaten in the restaurant numerous times, and they never disappoint. But I used their home delivery service last night and it was superb. I live 5 miles out of town and the meal arrived in forty minutes, and was delicious. What sets them out from the rest is the quality of the meat. The lamb and chicken was beautifully tender, absolutely the best. I've worked in kitchens, and I would be proud to be serving up such good food. Really good value too, with generous portions.

We’d booked Christmas Day for an Indian elsewhere in Banbury and upon arrival they were closed (that’s another story and a very bad review!). I rang jaypur on the off chance they could accommodate us. They couldn’t have been more welcoming! They told us we were more than welcome and to come straight down. The food was delicious - healthy portions and great flavours. The service was brilliant. We found out after our dinner that they weren’t even open that night but they had wanted us to have a nice Christmas meal!! Honestly couldn’t speak highly enough about this place. The food, the experience and the care from the staff is just above and beyond. Won’t ever book anywhere else for an Indian again in Banbury! Huge thanks to the staff

Given some of the reviews we were expecting the quality to be below that of the New Mogul and Joolz. Not so, the quality was just as good. Together with rice or nan included in the price of a main course, and a free shot at the end, it was fantastic value for money. Parsons Street has three excellent Indian restaurants.

Jay Pur has been around for a long time and I have enjoyed many a meal there. Extensive menu and big portions of fairly tasty food. Service is friendly but can be a little inconsistent when it gets busy. When it is busy, it gets loud (great for atmosphere but can be a little overwhelming if you want to enjoy a conversation with your meal). The food is not quite as refined or as authentic as other curry houses but if you want a fun night out with a group - then this is probably ideal.

My second review of Jaypur - Banbury... I am still ordering years on. As I probably said in my previous review there is a lot of competition in the local area and having tried them all Jaypur is the by far the best all rounder. Requests are always listened to and when you order a delivery they usually throw in a poppadom for each person. Not charging for every tiny pot of sauce or poppadom is a real winner, nothing worse than a penny pinching takeaway yet the majority of them are. The naan breads are excellent, a cut above the rest in size and standard. I'm yet to experience an Indian restaurant in the UK that comes even close to the naan bread heaven that these guys provide. We've never had an issue with deliveries or the food and as long as they continue to fill the takeaway tubs up to the top we will continue to order. Keep up the good work!

While taking a narrowboat trip on the Oxford canal and mooring at Banbury we looked up recommendations for our onboard evening meal as an alternative to all the pub food we’d been eating. We really enjoyed our tasty, decent portion sized, reasonably priced takeaway and Jay pur deserves its high rating. Highly recommend.

I have been going to this restaurant for the last 32 years! Last night I ordered a delivery. The food was hot, delivered within the specified time slot and was as tasty as it usually is. The ordering process was easy too. Well recommended.

I have loved the food from here since we moved here a year ago.Sadly, my wife & I visited here a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of the GOV "Eat Out" campaign. We walked out within 10 minutes of entering.It was our first visit out to eat since being allowed to after the lock down, we are in 55 to 60 age group & wish to remain safe.Sadly, within a few steps in, we noticed out of the staff we saw, one wore a face cover occasionally, one had it around his neck and the others (kitchen staff included) had no protection what so ever.All seats were occupied, so we saw no social distance measures in place.We walked out in disgust and informed the manager by email who kindly responded, saying some of his staff have breathing issues so were exempt !!!!However, we put our safety over good food / dining out, so we will not be eating from here again until the Covid issue is over.

Have been enjoying the Jaypur almost since the day they opened - and we have never been disappointed! Whether we are eating in or getting our weekly fix delivered to us the food is always fanstastic and the service excellent. Eating in is like visiting with old friends, and is always an enjoyable experience.During the current situation they are offering delivery which complies with social distancing - let me tell you there is no difference in the quality or quantity of the food it is alway delicious!

we have a lot of indian restaurants in my town however Jaypur is the best. the food is so fresh. They also offer Slimming world options which are so tasty. The restaurant is so nice and the staff are so lovely and polite. Delivery is easy to book on line and always arrives really hot. Highly recommended

Haven't had a curry from here for a while but not disappointed with the food nice and hot and well cooked with excellent flavours and taste

The Jaypur has become a permanent fixture in our household dinner calendar. We've been ordering from this restaurant every couple of weeks for the last year or so and not once experienced an issue. We spend about £25 for two people and they usually throw some poppadoms in the bag too. There is a lot of competition in UK Indian restaurants throughout Banbury and this is by far the best all rounder. Prices are sensible, portions are decent (important because I'm very greedy), they don't charge for every little pot of sauce or poppadom unlike many of the other penny pinching restaurants in the local area and the food is always delicious. They don't go soft on the spice either, if the menu says the dish is hot then it's hot. I can recommend the lamb madras or the chicken saag. The naan breads are huge and very tasty. We are already looking forward to our next curry night.

It was great I went with my friends to show them how good it tastes and they also agreed.They said that their favourite thing was the chicken biryani and Bombay jaal faizi . It was a great experience and I would love to go with my family next time. #BEST CHEF'S

What a fantastic meal! We were served by Anwar who gave great advice on new dishes we could try - all were delicious! Very vegetarian friendly and my friend was easily accommodated with s gluten free meal. Really lovely experience, we will definitely return.

Had a night out with family and got a curry which tasted absolutely amazing we got the jaal jala jaypur special Balti tandoori deluxe and chicken korma food came fast and very friendly staff and great service at busy hours definitely will be visiting again

Usual pseudo-indian fodder aimed squarely at people who haven't eaten the real thing. Very little evidence that the whole meal didn't emanate from large white plastic catering buckets of 'Indian flavoured sauces'.

I had chicken pathia and it was too hot for me. Back home in Beverley I regularly eat madras and vindaloo so I know fo next time.

I ordered a simple order 2 curries with rice and naan. Delivery came within the expected time on opening they had forgotten one curry! So call and complain and curry delivery In 20 mins by which time food had gone cold. No refund as they only refund if you give food back!!!! Slightly difficult when you haven’t got one item.

Great food, very generous portions and very good (amazing) value for money. The decor is old school indian restaurant complete with flocked wallpaper that said the place was very clean and well lqid out. welcoming staff both polite and efficient. Comprehensive menu offering and happy go adapt the choices to suit ones taste. Good service with the dishes appearing pretty quickly. Going to be returning when I am next in the area.

Our first take out having moved to Banbury recently. The meal was great, and plenty to eat. The nan bread was one of the best we have had from anywhere in recent years.

Dropped in for a meal with a mate and friendly staff were very attentive without being annoying which happens all too often in Indian restaurants.

I have been ordering food from the Jay pur for many years, however, our food which was delivered this evening was very disappointing..king prawns the size of shrimp, and all of the dishes were mainly sauce... Nothing was marked on the containers.. the delivery guy didn't have change either... DISAPPOINTING.

Our fist visit on a busy Saturday evening, having booked a table in advance we were shown to our table by friendly staff. The staff were helpful, well presented and happy to provide advice on the food which was varied and interesting,.

We were a party of 8 and ordered various dishes. All the food was good and the service was too. Not so keen on sitting upstairs although I suspect that the tables downstairs would not have been able to accommodate us all. Overall enjoyable evening.

My go to curry house in Banbury . As usual a nice, well cooked meal. Also go if sitting in. Preferred restaurants are in Birmingham, but too far for a last minute curry.😁

Had a late night meal. Gorgeous Balti dish and a chefs specialty, both came with rice or naan included in the price. Very tasty and served hot, excellent value for money. Waiters very attentive. Recommend this place. 😛

We arrived without a reservation which was no problem as it was 9.30pm. We had excellent service with attentive waiter. Tge food was delicious and able to accommodate a request for our food to be 'slimming world style' ie cooked with frylight instead of oil. All the food tasted amazing and we were both totally stuffed afterwards and unable to finish it all. A very reasonable bill considering how much we ate!

We were looking for somewhere to eat and didn’t know what we fancied so decided to go for a walk in the town and see. We decided on the Jay Pur and were not disappointed. The whole meal was very good and tasty. I have never seen such a large naan bread in all my life!! The wine was very good value as was the meal. A nice touch with fruit and a drink to finish. Service attentive but not intrusive.

Popped in on the off chance. Nice welcome and ambiance Starters and other Indian condiments all good. Big surprise was the chicken Jalfrezi that was perfection.. good taste My partner had the butter chicken that was also excellent Highly recommend

I can't complain or commend, food Was ok , service was ok, decor was ok , it was all just ok. There was nothing to make me want to return, but I can't really criticise either.

Have tried hundreds of Indian restaurants but the Jay Pur is the best not only for eating in but for a takeaway, ordering is easy, very quick always hot just love it.

We visited this restaurant as it had been recommended to us, and I have to say that it was fabulous.

My meal reminded me of a "proper" indian - the kind I first visited in the '70s, where the choice was mild, medium, hot or very hot! Jay Pur's choices were far more extensive, but my meal was very pleasantly nostalgic.

From the moment we entered Jaypur to we went out we felt a warm welcome. The food was excellent so was the wine and beer. The service was very attentive and descrete, which we appreciated so much. As a farewell gift we got slices of sweet oranges and a liquor. Thank you. We would love to be back.

By far the best Indian restaurant in Banbury. The dishes are all well spiced - either hot or fragrant depending on what you ask for. The waiting staff are always friendly. They do a really good take away service - though be warned that it's cash only.

First impression was that Jay pur was just another typical small Indian restaurant. That soon changed with the warm welcome and seeing the selection on the menu. The food was excellent and the finishing touches with fresh orange slices, warm wiping towels was a nice touch. The complimentary Baileys and Brandy were much appreciated.

This was the first time we've eaten here and we were very impressed. We were amazed by the portion sizes, but sadly, our middle-age appetites couldn't cope with all the food. It tasted great and there's a big choice on the menu. The service is very good and friendly. We were even given complimentary Baileys and brandy at the end of our meal. Just visited this restaurant. First time for a while but it used to be the best Indian food in Banbury. It was disappointing to say the least. We had poppodums to start which are pretty messy and left onions and debry all over the table. I expected this to be tidied before our main came but was ignored. There were no serving spoons or cutlery when the main came so I borrowed some from the next table. The naan was pale and doughy. Undercooked in my opinion wuth little keama inside. We ate quickly as it was extremely hot in there and got the bill. Nobody asked if the food was ok or I would have told them.

I only had take away so that's all I can comment on.

I always seem to order the same Indian food - what to have? Chicken Tikka Massala to play safe, Jal Frezee if Im feeling braver, Vindaloo if I have had a pint or two..

I eat Asian quite often but i cannot say i know all the varieties this restaurant has to offer. Food was good, service ok. Ee have chosen 2 persons two main dishes, 1 nan (which is big like a Pizza) and one basmati Rice which again was enough for the two of us. They offered us shots of drinks after the meal which was a very nice gesture. Upper floor is more quiet and better for larger companies.

We went to the jay pur last night with another couple. It's been a couple of years since I was last in the jay pur . We could not fault anything at all. The food, service, quality and size of portions were excellent.

Went for a works meal at the Jay Pur and they struggled to get the food out for everyone at the same time and they always forgot to bring some of the thing we ordered. When the food did come it was nice, but the experience overall was not amazing.

We visited the Jay Pur when staying in Banbury in December - we went on the Xmas lights trail at Blenheim Palace by the way, highly recommended too! We chose this Indian restaurant based on proximity to where we were staying and the reviews on Trip Advisor- not wrong! It was very busy and we had not booked, but a table was found and the service and food was excellent, the waiter taking the time to explain the dishes despite being busy. And at the end of the evening, the two ladies were given bottles of wine as xmas presents to take home, a lovely touch! I suggest you book if you are visiting at busy times!

Visited this outstanding restaurant on Boxing Day night whilst staying in Banbury,the service and food were first class and both meals were of excellent quality.

Want to give it 5 as the food is amazi g butbyet again they forgot to put my nan in my takeaway bag. So a 4 it gets and I'll consider Jool now as my choosen 'take.home' as I am really that pee'd off with them now. Sloppy!

My aunt lives abroad, and she ever she comes back to visit, we always go here for a family meal. The prices are very reasonable and you get very good portions, the Butter Chicken I ordered was absolutely delicious, everyone else said their meal was lovely too. Staff are also lovely. Highly recommended!

Went for a meal for my husbands birthday at the weekend. We booked a table but in arriving, they seemed as if they didn't have the booking and wanted to lead us upstairs, as I am on crutches, I requested a table downstairs, there was one table available that needed clearing, they dudnt appear to be very happy about having to do that for us. The food was lovely, but did take a long time for the main course to arrive after our starters. The customer service was appalling one of the waiters in particular was quite rude, waving his hand at us to pass him the dirty plates. Lovely food, but wouldn't go back, didn't feel welcome, so different to the small one next door that has closed down their customer service and food were excellent.

This restaurant serves excellent curries and side dishes, particularly the vegetable accompaniments. I usually use the takeaway service and if I pop in rather than order by phone I am usually only waiting 15 - 20 minutes which I think is reasonable. Naan breads are on the large side compared to other Indian restaurants.

This restaurant is usually our go to for a good curry and they usually make an excellent curry. I ordered my usual mild Chicken Tikka Dhansak which the restaurant has always made. When the food was sent out the curry was far too hot so I asked for a new one to be sent out. When this was returned the curry was either replated or another hot one was sent out. My partner who always has hot curries also tried it and said it was very hot. I then complained about this and was treated very rudely - the staff told me that this was a hot curry even though I have always had it made mild. They said that mildness isn’t quantifiable and that I shouldn’t have ordered this curry if I didn’t want a hot one (despite the fact they said that it can be made mild and that I have had it mild more times than I can remember!)They were very patronising and rude overall which is a very different experience than we have usually had. The restaurant was very busy and unfortunately this seemed to be their downfall - too many people to offer quality customer service and listen properly to customer orders. We did not pay for the meals and only paid for drinks and poppadoms as a concession for this. Would not return after this though, massively disappointed by this experience.

Told would be an hour. After an hour and a half after no communication from restaurant contacted then. All they could say is very busy so cancelled order and put they put the phone on us. Great customer service....not !!

We used to visit Jay Pur every Saturday early for a meal in house, but what they do not offer is a Friendly feel atmosphere! although we were regular customers! apart from one person

We came out for a works do on the Tuesday, and were very pleased with the food. So much so we ordered takeaway on the Friday. There is a great selection on the menu, and no dishes disappointed. The staff were friendly too, and even offered a complimentary drink to round off the meal.

This evening me & my partner ordered over the phone. We collection from the restaurant 40 minutes later. When we got home we found that items were missing from our order. And the 2 main dishes we ordered had been mixed up and labelled wrong. No condiments for our poppadoms which we paid for also! We rang up straight away. Spoke to 3 different members of staff including the manager - all of which said there was nothing they could do, no drivers would deliver us the missing item or the correct order. They refused us a refund and told us they would only refund us £2 for the missing naan bread. Appalling customer service!! Will never order from here again. The thing that worries me is the fact the main dishes were in the wrong containers labelled incorrectly.. if someone has a food allergy that could be very dangerous.

Usually have a takeaway delivered home, but for a change I took my 10 year old daughter for a meal. Absolutely fantastic, as usual very tasty food, fabulous friendly staff, in one of the nicest restaurants I've ever been in. Very reasonable prices too. See you again soon..

Ordered Tandoori King Prawns couldn't even tell they were prawns just burnt and chewy, threw them in the bin. Will not order from here again.

Excellent value for money. Have eaten here several times and will always go back. All curry's are good, very reasonable priced. Makes sense to book a table as often very busy. Don;t order a naan bread each as they are massive.

Great staff, food great at both portion size and quality, you have to try the Chicken Tikka Sagwala, worth visiting the town for!

Ooh, we had a lovely meal here last week, beautiful surroundings, recently renovated I think, huge portions, exceptional value for money and very, very tasty. Fortunately we were able to take home what we couldn't eat that evening, Thankyou guys for that, and we enjoyed it all over again the next day! Superb service and very friendly staff.

The food here was lovely and the portion size is massive my advice share if your unsure. Get complimentary drinks at the end and the price was reasonable. My only criticism is that service was quite slow waited an home for mains and a couple of the staff were rude.

My aunt lives in Abu Dhabi so whenever she comes home we eat here because it's her favorite Indian in the area. It's easy to find, quite small inside but this makes for a cosier atmosphere. There were 7 of us eating and as it was a Monday night there were only 2 other tables that ate while we were in there but it was still lovely. The food was great, and the portions are huge considering the very reasonable prices! The staff are all rather quiet, but very polite and friendly so no complaints!

Reading other excellent reviews I concur, the service and food is excellent.The nan bread is huge - big triangle, easily enough for 2.Huge choice and probably a couple of dishes not seen on all menus, but I'm not adventurous.The orange and Bailey's at the end just finished it off nicely.Will definitely eat here again next time we're in the area.

My wife was working late, and I'd had a busy week, so neither of us could be bothered to cook (shame on us!). The Easter holidays had started for our little girl so we decided to treat ourselves to a curry, which we had delivered.For the first time I ordered online and selected a delivery slot of 18.45 - very easy website to use.Food arrived pretty much spot on time.Chicken Korma for the wife and little one, and a Pathia for me. Usual sundries of naan and rice accompanied the order.Food was piping hot and really very tasty.Only slight issue was that there was too much! But that's my fault!Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.Still the go-to Indian takeaway in town in my opinion.Thanks guys...

We visited with friends and wisely booked a table when we got to Banbury. When we got to the restaurant just after 7.30pm it was really busy but our drinks and food orders were taken quickly and all the food was delicious, especially the Jaypur Special curry. At just over £60 for 4 people it was good value too.
