This shop is brilliant. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff and you can take all your old bottles of olive oil, shampoo, washing up liquid, shower gel etc etc and get them refilled. I would highly recommend it. They do lovely soaps and beauty products in there too.

Excellent staff and service! Knowledgeable and excited about refills! I came to refill my non bio and left with that plus some (very nice) dried mango and liquorice sticks. We'll definitely be coming again now I know we have a local refills place! Thank you!

A refreshing change to the corporate and sanitised identikit coffee shops that are ubiquitous and all over London. A charming coffee shop situated in Hayes, Bromley. Think overstuffed armchairs, non-marching furniture, oodles of atmosphere and a tardis as a doorway to the loos and you’re most of the way there. It really is rather charming. A comprehensive but not overly complex menu, friendly chipper staff and a warm conviviality make this place a “must visit” - even if just as an antidote to all the other corporate coffee shops we endure

Love this place! No it's not a posh coffee shop, thank goodness. Just homely comfy and nice. Some folks might think it strange with a tardis in the corner but it has bags of character which is so lacking in soulless coffee bars these day! We had a bacon sandwich and a delicious chicken avocado sandwich. Bread was excellent and perfect chicken. Yum yum yum! Nice tea too. Perfect. Thank you.

I was trying to find somewhere for my sister and I to meet for lunch and came across Java and Chai online. We decided to give it a try and are so happy we did. It is a lovely, quaint tea room with a really relaxing atmosphere. The staff were lovely, as was the food. My sister had the scrambled eggs on toast with bacon and I had the Lincolnshire sausage sandwich. We had a home made cake each to follow and these were delicious. Absolutely loved this little gem and highly recommend it. We shall definitely be going back.

Great to find an independent tea and coffee shop, with old world character, in otherwise bland suburban Hayes. Pleasant efficient service. Good music and not too loud, a common problem in many coffee shops. I really enjoyed my Earl Grey tea and poached eggs on toast. If I lived locally I would be a regular visitor. Recommended.

Very pleasant place to relax, chat, eat and drink. Not sure why someone would choose a character or Costa than a unique place like this, or at least an occasional change to a corporate giant. Lovely cafe to pass some time in and relax. Old fashioned tables and chairs or upholstered arm chairs make for a relaxing atmosphere where there's enough space to be unaware of the tables around you.(there is another room at the back with toddler play area if you have young children, or you can sit up and avoid if youngsters are not your thing) Decor is vintage without verging on the twee. Coffee is very good - good quality, correct strength and right size - not flooded with water. Tea comes in old fashioned pots. Sausage sandwich was good - good quality sausage, sliced and fried well, in buttered brown bread. came with sliced tomato on the side, a tomato that was properly ripe and flavoursome - none of that sharp unripe nasty bit of hard tomato that many places rely on as a garnish - so well done them. Partner had really well cooked poached eggs. This is a cafe whose owners take a pride in the place. They seem delighted to see you, serve you very well, and then leave you alone. Bravo.

We decided to drop into Java and Chai on Thursday evening for Vegetarian Buffet we didn't book but they managed to fit us in. The place was very busy and the food was lovely and the owners welcoming. It is lovely to go out to eat in such a relaxed atmosphere with delightful food. The menu was varied and made a pleasant change from Indian/Chinese or Fish and Chips. The food was reasonably priced and I will be looking to go again.

I dropped in here for coffee with a friend, who had Earl Grey tea and a lemon cake. The coffee was really outstanding and the proprietor explained that it was Drury's coffee. That alone made it worth going back. The décor is very individual--no two tables or seating arrangements the same. Other food is available, but we only had tea and coffee, so I can't comment about the rest. Definitely worth a visit!

There was four high chairs so we were all able to give our little ones something to eat and have a relaxed sandwich & cuppa at the same time. On one of the hottest August days we arrived for afternoon tea. What a lovely tea room. We received a warm welcome and a pot of tea quickly arrived shortly after we ordered it along with a jug of milk and sugar. Then the main event. For two of us 2 slices of homemade quiche, finger sandwiches comprising smoked salmon with cream cheese, ham, cheese and pickle and egg mayonnaise. Two home made fruit scones with butter, cream and jam served in little pots. Two slices of home made raspberry tart and three slices of home made cake: lemon drizzle, coffee & walnut and Victoria sponge. A feast that beat us! And all for £13.50 each. A definite winner.

I've always walked past this tea room with not much enthusiasm, the outside of the building doesn't do the inside justice, from the outside it looks dark and dingy. However, once inside its spacious and really rather lovely. I was there today for a friends birthday, Afternoon Tea at £13.50 per head. We were welcomed in and shown into the back room where the "tea" had been laid out. There were 6 of us and we each had 4 quarters of sandwiches, egg mayo, smoked salmon, ham and cheese & caramelised onion, we had a large scone with jam and clotted cream each and a range of cakes. Two of our party have nut allergies (this wasn't mentioned at time of booking) and the cakes were both nut filled and nut free on the same plate. We were given sponge cake as an alternative, but it was a sliver rather than a slice. We had unlimited tea/coffee. The Afternoon Tea didn't set the world alight, but for a local offering it was ok. It would have been nice to have more sandwiches as not all of us like the fillings, but the bread was fresh. The scones were lovely. All in all it was a nice experience.

The interior of the tea room is spacious and the decor is very stylish and attractive. There is more space at the back with a play area for young children. They cater for parties as well as general custom, and are very popular with the locals, with many regular customers. The food is very good and healthy, and they have a variety of teas on offer. Fatos, the owner, is very friendly and you always get a "hi-ya" and "see you later" when you come and go. They cater for all ages, have fresh cakes baked on the premises, and offer smoothies and ice-cream for the young at heart. And the WiFi is excellent! My only criticism would be that during rare and exceptionally busy times they can run slightly behind on the orders, but it's a family run business so I can understand this, and the wait is well worth it! This fact would have caused the few negative reviews.

I visited here a year ago and was a little disappointed in the afternoon tea we received so it was when we returned today that I was pleasantly surprised to find that the team running this tearoom have transformed it into a much larger venue that caters for couples, families, and even parties. What really pleased us was the back room that had been converted into a family-friendly area so that everyone at the tearoom could enjoy themselves. The food is good with a fresh selection of cakes and there is plenty to choose from for drinks and food. The staff are very pleasant and passionate about ensuring their tearoom is befitting of the local area. The furniture and fittings are a bit of a mis-match but that adds character and is practical (especially for the family room). There is a dedicated play area for young children (with a play pen), the toys available are clean and interactive and there is a lovely range of dolls houses and castles for older children to entertain themselves with.A great improvement and I can only hope this is set to continue.

Made my first visit to Java & Chai having heard such good reviews from friends. What a delightful place, quirky decor and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I was made to feel very welcome from the moment I stepped through the door. A friend joined me and we decided to have the Afternoon Tea. Lovely selection of sandwiches, delicious home made scones with loads of clotted cream and jam and lots of different cakes. It didn't phase the staff at all to cater to our taste likes and dislikes and my friends's walnut allergy. There was so much food, we couldn't manage it all, so it was boxed up for us to take home. I was very impressed with the quality of food and the very friendly staff. I can't wait to return.

I visited Java and Chai this afternoon for my sister-in-law's baby shower and it was absolutely delightful. The service was great and all staff were incredibly friendly. I admit that I've had slightly better food in other places, but I also paid a lot more for it. I was amongst good friends, sharing a special occasion and this tea room was the perfect setting for it. They were in no hurry to get rid of us and we were treated as very welcome guests, which is something you'll never experience in a chain coffee/tea shop. They've only been open for a few months but in time I imagine they will improve the toilet/back area. I would recommend Java and Chai to friends!

Lovely sandwiches, bread very soft and fresh, plenty of filly and salad on the side. Fresh orange juice serve in quirky glasses. The furniture may not match but that's what makes a homely tea shop. The lady I was with could not finish her sandwich or juice. The staff immediately offered containers to carry sandwich and drink back home. Will certainly visited again.

We rang ahead to book an afternoon tea and I confirmed the price on the phone which was £9.95. When we arrived we waited 25 minutes for it to arrive. The menu for the teas was on the table and we picked a couple of different ones. We were not told that we would have to pay extra for these teas and were shocked to receive a bill for over £15.00!! Why didn't they tell us at the time that if we chose tea other than the standard teas it would be at an extra cost?? I would also like to point out to the reviewer who said that the top up water is free, that we were never offered any top up water and when we asked for extra tea, we were given a new pot and were clearly charged for it. It's obviously all about making money. I have been to Tea Rooms in the past that make their own jams. These, I noticed, were small pots of a well known brand that you can buy in any supermarket. Great! Their homemade cakes were nothing to shout about. The lemon drizzle cake came recommended, but was quite sickly. Marks and Spencer's one is much tastier.I think the hysteria over this tea room, and the 5 star reviews are based mainly on the fact that tea rooms are generally few and far between and are a rarity these days, as more coffee houses and bistros are common place, but I think if you lined up 50 tea rooms in Hayes High Street, this would not come out in the top 5.

Was one of a party who booked tea rooms as a family event. Still customers eating in shop at time the rooms were booked for a private event, On our table of 6 we had 8 quarters of sandwich, 4 scones, had to ask for butter and was given 3 pats, had to ask for knives, 3 pots of jam, no choice of tea, we had 3 pots as 1 pot only sufficient for 4 people. The 6 of us shared 4 very fine slices of cake. Apparently we should have had cream with scones. Those who asked for a latte instead of tea were charged extra as also a fruit shoot for a child. Organiser was asked to pay £40 extra as guests had more than one pot of tea . Charge was £9.95 a head plus the extra £40. Every table was missing something i.e. knives, spoons crockery and nobody had the full menu. Service variable. Owners may fair better with small numbers, but could not cope with 30

I visited with family and friends as we wanted something different instead of the usual coffee shops and cafes. Sorry to say that we were not impressed by the food or the service and found the afternoon tea to be nothing special. The toilet was in desperate need of a paint job and was extremely shabby. We came across this magical little place one bank holiday Monday. The whole point about this place is that it is not formulaic - it's quirky and obviously run with enthusiasm and passion by a hard working couple. To the reviewer who just didn't get it - you obviously should stick to bland chains with servers who don't give a damn serving mass produced rubbish. The tea is tea pigs - great quality. If you want more hot water - it's free! You don't have to buy another pot. The cakes in the afternoon tea are homemade. This is what a great English tea room should be like. We walked in today and the owner greeted us like long lost friends. The owner recalling out last visit and even offered to make us a veggie version of afternoon tea. You'd not get that in a chain. So if you want bland and boring - go elsewhere. If you want a quirky place run by a charming couple with pride and passion - go here. We love it and will return as much as we can as its so refreshing to find a cafe/tea room that is independent nowadays.

Firstly, let me tell you that I have had afternoon teas in various tea rooms and hotels across the country, and I can honestly say that this was the worst I have ever had. At first impressions it seems to pull off a quintessential, boutique tea room, but on closer inspection you realise it to be superficial only and has no substance. The lighting is too bright, the decor is cheap and awkward with tables and chairs mismatched with no uniformity in design. It lacks the coziness you would expect of a tea room and seems quite sterile and lacking in warmth. It is trying hard to be chintzy, but doesn't quite get there. The tea itself is made up of 4 finger sandwiches each person, a crumbly scone with a very small pot of cream that doesn't quite fill it, and instead of small, delicate cakes that usually accompany the sones, you were given large slices of stodgy cake that were much too filling, and if you didn't like that particular cake, you didn't have much choice of any others. One large cupcake and a small eclair that was dry and filled with half a strawberry, that fell apart when you picked it up. One pot of tea wasn't sufficient enough to wet the palate after all those dry cakes, but bear in mind, refills of tea will cost up to £5 each. The total cost of this afternoon tea will set you back £13 - £15 per head, depending on how much tea you will drink, which in my opinion, is over priced and definitely not worth it. It is run by a couple, the man spends the majority of the time behind the scenes, preparing teas and washing up, while the woman is up the front serving customers, VERY loudly!

My aunt took me for my first visit here. We had lunch, a 4 egg omlette each filled with delicious things. It was cooked nicely and the salad garnish was more than a garnish and very fresh. The decor was lovely, really olde worldy and quaint with a mish mash of different sized tables and very comfy chairs. I had my first tea pig here as well, Rooibos, delicious. My aunt loves the coffee they serve. It is clearly a family fun restaurant finding its feet and in my opinion doing very well.I would change the dark velvet curtains though as it doesn't look appealing from the pavement and is quite dark inside. Some pretty quaint curtains or nets would be better although I do understand the ambience they are trying to create, which is unnecessary as the decor and furniture can do that by itself.
