Jar Bakery in East Devon

Lovely large cafe, we sat in the back and they welcomed dogs. We ordered cream tea, tea and bacon and Brie panini. By the time my panini arrived my husband had finished his cream tea… please bring food out together, so families/friends can eat together. Bacon & Brie (usually with cranberry) is my go to. The bacon was ok, but couldn’t taste the Brie as it was cut far too thin. Side salad was amazing though! 😁

Hi there, My boyfriend and I visited Jar this past Friday for lunch, and I just have to share that the customer service was absolutely stellar and the food was wonderfully flavourful. As soon as we stepped into the Family Bakery Cafe, we were met with bright smiles and warm welcomes from the staff. The air was filled with the fresh, delightful scents of everything from creamy buns to flaky pastries. As a vegetarian, I always appreciate a good range of options, and I was not disappointed here. I was torn between an enticing vegan sausage roll and a savoury Butternut Squash, Spinach & Vegan Feta Pasty. In the end, the pasty won my heart. My carnivorous boyfriend, on the other hand, settled for a Steak and Ale pasty. We also opted to indulge in a rich and creamy hot chocolate. The cafe offered plenty of seating, including a spacious area towards the back, making it easy to find a comfortable spot in this lovely bakery-cafe hybrid. When our hot drinks were brought to the table, the waitress explained that she had accidentally charged me incorrectly. However, thanks to their modern payment methods, by the time we received our table service, a refund had already been issued. This quick response highlighted their commitment to excellent customer service. Though I didn't ask for the name, the receipt indicated that "Taz" was the thoughtful staff member. A special thanks to her for her exceptional service. In a gracious gesture of customer appreciation, Taz also brought over a cream bun to make up for the error. Although the issue had already been resolved amicably, this was a delightful surprise and a fantastic demonstration of their commitment to customer satisfaction. Leaving Jar, we felt incredibly valued, a rarity in the era of chain establishments. As a student at Exeter University, I've already recommended to many friends that if they find themselves in Sidmouth, a visit to Jar is a must. Many thanks, Archie

One of the best hot chocolates I've ever had. Lovely, friendly staff and the food looked good too. Very nice. Would recommend.

I've used jar a few times for a coffee & cake & always enjoyed it, very nice coffee and cakes very fresh, service can be a little bit slow at times but it does get very busy so that fine with me,plus the young staff are always polite and attentive.

I waited patiently while the customer in front of me read out his lengthy order, but I was completely ignored by the staff member behind the counter, no eye contact, no acknowledgement that I was there, not even a quick 'be with you in a sec'. Eventually she went to the kitchen door & announced to someone in the kitchens ''incoming'' & turned her back on me to make a coffee and still nobody came out to serve me, so I left, empty-handed. Need to brush up on your customer service skills. I wont be back.

Waited a long time after ordering. Other tables served in front of us. After complaining, they said there is a fault in their machine which sends the order to the kitchen. They had to take the order again. There were lots of apologies but that wasn't good enough. No offers of a discount or complimentary tea or coffee. We won't be going back.

Terrible experience. Arrived and ordered food. Quiche had run out even though we had been able to order and pay for the item so an alternative was requested. My food arrived and my partners food did not. We then chased it up 3 times before the food was the eventually prepared and an excuse offered. I had finished my food and continued to wait for the "quiche" to arrive. Eventually the food arrived after 30 minutes of chasing and 44minutes after ordering and paying. Really poorly managed and appeared that no one was actually in charge. Cutlery had run out and was not replenished. Bins over flowing in the toilets. Another table next to us had also items missing from their order and had to request. Worst experience of eating out in a long time.....

Visited for a fast meal and it was excellent. The service was courteous, the pastries were flawless, and the coffee was enjoyable. Highly recommended

Went to into Jar for lunch last week I wanted a sweet chilli chicken panini they didn't have any I then asked for a BBQ chicken panini nope didn't have that either. So ended up with a chicken tikka jacket potato which was nice. Decided to try again today well more fool me so I ordered the sweet chilli chicken panini again paid for it went and sat down then the waitress came over they've got no chicken again. So ended up having a pasty and chips wasn't very nice. The blonde waitress with the plate seemed nice but the one with the short reddish brown hair seemed to have a bit of an attitude think maybe she needs a job where she isn't working with customers. Will definitely NOT be going back.

Popped in for for quick bite , we both chose to have a latte and a sausage roll quick and easy , how would you like to pay card or cash , I chose cash so handed over a 20 pound note , haven't you anything smaller I've got no change I've just had a 20 note have you a card ? No just a note , I thought it was the end of the world, eventually got to eat the roll hot greasy fat !!! Not good, the coffee by the time you took the bubbles off the top I had half a cup of coffee 3 mouthfuls and that was it gone!!! . Definitely won't be going back , try the new Italian across the road an awful lot better!.

Looks lovely from the outside and the food was ok, but to be honest it was disappointing. Not really any different from any other bakery and a long way from what you might find at a Two Magpies or somewhere similar. Staff were polite, but it felt like they were overrun and possibly undertrained. Most tables were dirty and a number were simply eating around the left overs of previous customers. My advice would be to find somewhere better or just go for an old fashioned place that does what it says on the tin. I’m afraid this place promises something it isn’t.,

Looked nice from the outside. My wife had a bagel which had obviously been heated before going on display. Absolutely rank food. Such a shame. Standards!!

Visited this place to be told at just before 3pm that the kitchen was closed! Not very welcoming either. There was still hot food being displayed in the window, they obviously like waste.
