Came for dinner with friends on a fairly quiet October evening. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was swift and friendly. Excellent value for money.

We booked online to celebrate a promotion of a job. We have been here quite a few times and every time nothing has ever been too much trouble for the staff and food knowledge of the brand. Can’t explain how nice the food is matched by great customer focused management and staff.

As soon as you walk in you was warmly greeted, The staff can not welcome you enough. Also the food is the the most authentic food ever

A last minute arrangement and mentioned it was a birthday in the booking. To my surprise we were served complimentary onion bhajees and towards the end of our evening staff surprised us with a small cake and candle! A thoughtful, lovely gesture which made the evening. Our meal was very nice, as usual. Thanks to the staff who served us these unexpected treats.

This Indian restaurant is a great place to eat with meals ranging from sweet to spicy curries. They also have a range of drinks with their famous kingfisher beer. I would recommend the lovely cheap popadums before your main course as they are accompanied with multiple dips. I would recommend this place.

Great place serving traditional and authentic dishes, always offer advice on alternatives, always had a lovely meal here with friends, family and sometimes take always. Kingfisher beer always good too.

Just had exemplary service here at Janaki's. Food was brought out promptly and was delicious. The owner is warm and welcoming. Had colourful onion Bhajis today and previously the chicken Jalfrezi was delicious! Definitely would recommend that you have a lovely Indian meal here soon. The menu is extensive but they also can accommodate special requests.

We were visiting the area so decided to give Janaki a try. We were no disappointed. Firstly we were welcomed by the friendly manager and were shown to a lovely table near the window. Really nice ambiance, immaculately clean and fairly busy with families and couples. The food was fabulous, really fresh good quality dishes, the chicken was melt in the mouth and the prawns plump and tasty. We were impressed with the waiting staff, polite and efficient with just the right amount of enthusiasm which is unusual these days. Compared with our local restaurants we found this restaurant really good value for money. If we ever return to this area we will definitely do it again!

Me and my partner booked a table here for our trip to Solihull. We were so excited to dine here due to the amazing reviews highlighting how amazing the customer service is here. Unfortunately we did not experience this. We waited to be seated whilst staff moved around the restaurant. When we were sat down the waiter asked us for drinks, we ordered and when the drinks arrived we asked if we could please order our food. The server said yes and that he would be back in 2 minutes. 25/30 minutes later, we were still waiting to order our food. We witnessed another table next to us being seated and offered drinks, and then another waiter went over to the same table and took their food order. We were unsure why we were still waiting as waiters continued to go to other tables, whilst we tried to get their attention they said they would not be long. When someone finally came we explained we had been waiting over 25 minutes since he said he would come back to us. The waiter laughed this off and asked if WE forgot to order. As though this was not his mistake. We also mentioned the table next to us arrived later and they had been serviced, he explained they had a table booked before us. Which is irrelevant, we were INSIDE in the restaurant before them, we should not have to wait till they had been served just because they were late for their booking. We asked for the bill as we did not want to eat at a place where we did not feel valued and heard excuses why we had not been served instead of a simple “I’m sorry”. Maybe this “excellent” customer service is only for their regular guests. The restaurant is not very big so I’m not sure why we weren’t served. Can’t comment on the food quality as we didn’t eat but it was £7.20 or so for one single southern comfort and lemonade. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Have had takeaways from here before they seem to have gone down hill , chicken was tough and had a strange texture. Gentlemen who answered the phone struggled in taking the order correctly and items where missing when we got it all home. Rice was disappointing and ended up have to resort to a packet rice, Very very disappointed as we spent over £30 on this meal.

This place is simply outstanding! If you love a good Indian meal but hate pre-made generic dishes, then look no further.The food at Janaki's is made to order and is the freshest you can ever wish for.Never had a bad one here and always had an amazing experience.You need to try this place, trust me!Enjoy

I visited this restaurant with a friend to get a take away, it was quiet with only a few customers, the staff were very helpful on helping us decide and had a friendly and professional approach.We had drinks while we waited with complimentary poppadoms. The decor is lovely and the food was excellent, really enjoyed it and will return to have a sit down meal when it is business as usual.

Whether it's for a take away or dine in, this place is brilliant and one of my favourite things about it is how welcoming the bar staff are and they always remember your name, without being a "local place for locals". The food us absolutely lovely and has a wide choice.

I visit this restaurant usually once a month and the food is always very good. Nice variety, prompt service and friendly staff. Take out service is excellent. Would recommend as one of the better choices for curry and a nice beer in the Shirley area.

We have eaten here many times and always had fantastic service and the food is of a very good standard, recently we have opted more for take aways with them. We had an excellent meal from them last night, we enjoyed butter chicken and tikka masala, portion size is good and quality of ingredients high, overall an excellent meal for them every time! I went to this restaurant on Saturday on 1st February. It was busy but I loved the food there. Even my friends also enjoyed the food. We had a great time there. Surely going back there soon. Highly recommended.

Visited with my husband on a Saturday and we had not been here for several years. Table was booked for 7:30pm and we arrived promptly. There were only 2 staff serving the entire restaurant and it was apparent the place was understaffed. We were shown to the table and waiter then had to disappear to help elsewhere, not even shown the menu or asked if we wanted drinks. We did get drinks but it was a 20 min wait before the poor waitress manged to take our order.To cut a long story short, it was 9:15 before the waiter ( who we chased for a 2nd time) advised us they had not got our order, the waitress came over and apologised and retook our order, we did say they needed to tell the owner they needed more staff.We couldn’t get a taxi home straight away (we were going to order a takeaway), so accepted the offer of getting our order out quickly. So, after arriving on time, we finally got our starter 2 hrs later. Food was OK, but I’ve had better, if we had got served on-time we would have gone back but our evening out was a shamble. We did point out to the owner more staff was needed, and it wasn’t the waitress’s fault as she was too busy. We will not go back.

This is the first time I had visited this restaurant, although it is very local to me, I booked a table for 14 people and the staff were very accommodating. I can not fault the food, which was nice and hot and as I say the service was very good.However, as a designated driver and therefore a non alcohol drinker, I was somewhat disgusted to have to pay £4.50 (yes £4.50) for a pint of Soda and Lime and my partner paid £2.50 for a half pint. I paid 17p for a 2ltr bottle of soda in Aldis and 55p for a bottle of lime.The view from the party of 14 was of the same opinion, food a very good 9 out of 10, but the cost of drinks has put them off returning. I understand the cost of wine and beer is expected to be a little dearer, but a 10p drink costing £4.50 No!!Unfortunately I will not frequent this restaurant to sit in, however I will be back for a takeway.

The samosa starter was way below average and if I'm honest you can get the same taste in the frozen range of any supermarket. The main course was a little better perhaps on the bland side. Nice location and convenient parking. Perhaps not the place for a special occasion but for a decent curry meal it's not too bad.

Visited Janaki at the weekend with friends, six of us. This was the first time we have been since the place changed owners and it has improved massively. This was the best Indian food I have had in a long time. Really well cooked starters & main courses, freshly cooked breads. Everything was excellent. Service was good. We will definitely go back. Very tasty, excellent friendly service, probably the best vegetarian Indian restaurant. The thing I like is the extra lengths they go to with presentation and extra flavours by adding fresh herbs and ginger etc, and the rice is always excellent.

We decided to try Janaki instead of our local curry house after having many friends recommend it. Our usual one was closed due to the bank holiday (good Friday) so this seemed a good idea as it was open.

We had a takeaway from here, ordered and collected so the food wasn’t sitting around.

We went after passing it and thinking it looked nice from the outside. Although it was a quite night the owner/manager struck the right balance between leaving us alone and being attentive when needed. The food was full of flavour and texture and above average from the chutneys to the naan breads as well as the main dishes.

Went here with a few friends for the first time and enjoyed the food. Service was great and the food tasted very nice. Will be coming back and I believe they also do takeaways so will have to sample.

Having read such rave reviews and seeing the seemingly fantastic pictures of supposed regulars enjoying seemingly fantastic Indian food. We travelled to the restaurant in a lovely little location, we were seated immediately, which was quite rare given the size of the restaurant. My friends and I (on my recommendation, sadly in the end) were first struck by the lack of menu's. Given the size of our group, this made things quite awkward and quite tricky given there's lots to choose from! The lighting was rather harsh and lacked the cosiness that other reviewers talk about. Another issue that stuck us immediately was the price of the drinks! I've never seen anywhere more expensive for drinks in Birmingham. £4.50 for a pint of Coke. We ordered drinks, which was done pretty quickly, meaning we could tuck into our chutney and dips. The mango dip was very sweet...almost like too much sugar had been poured into it! Very quickly after we ordered food. This is was made very easy by the staff who were helpful. After a while, weirdly, our chutney and dips were taken away, which was very odd given we ended paying for them, this is very disappointing. You wouldn't take a main course that was half-finished away without asking. The main courses came out and I had ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala, which was orange, which was weird, everyone I have had in the past as been Red. The chicken I had was quite dry and in huge chunks! We also kept being asked for more drinks, did they want us drunk!? That was bit annoying as we were trying to talk about baby names for my friend's new baby! The male waiter seemed to keep asking the female waiters to do this. At the end, we were given a chocolate which tasted like it had been sat in a box for years! Don't eat the chocolate. Which, given the lack of dessert menu as highlighted by other people I've spoken to, is disappointing!

A keen regular at this place, either take-away or eating out. Great food (and fresh), friendly service and always a pleasure to visit. Keep it up!

I've visited Janaki a few times before and I have to say I love the food here. Staff are so friendly and the service is fantastic! I'll definitely visit again.

This is the perfect example of a great restaurant. Firstly, the welcome you receive from Tarun is always very warm and ensures that you feel “at home” the moment you walk through the door. In fact, the service is so good that you do actually feel as though you have been invited into someone’s home as their guest. Food is always fresh and tasty. The paneer shashlik is my favourite! We have only eaten in the restaurant up till now (and actually had our son’s 21st birthday party at Janaki) but will definitely begin trying takeaways too as the prices are very reasonable.

We had been before and enjoyed the food but this time was not the case. The first mint yoghurt was ok but very small portion when we asked for more sauces it tasted of just yoghurt. The main was tasteless and the naan was cold and dry.

Came to visit a friend who lives in Dickens Heath who had never visited her local curry house even though she had lived there 3 years (don’t get me started....) Rectified the situation and frog marched her down through the blistering cold and treacherous stretches of ice and boy was it worth the trip. We were welcomed as soon as we arrived and sat down within minutes to defrost and peruse the delights of the menu. Bhajis & Balti were my choice. Both tickled the taste buds and left me feeling grateful I had opted to wear my elasticated leggings to bear the strain of a stupendous over eating marathon to put some meat on my bones and keep me warm throughout this very chilly start to February. I expect my dear friend the Dickens Heath curry virgin will be promoting the naan breads to every person she speaks to over the next month. Also had a lovely chat with the owner who quite rightly was very proud of his restaurant and the food it served. A fantastic restaurant - you will not be disappointed.

My partner and I eat from Janaki regularly and absolutely love the food from there. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients, the food is never too oily or salty and their use of herbs and spices create an extra layer of flavour unlike any other restaurant in the area.

Visited here on a Saturday night with some friends. Never been before and was looking forward to it as reviews were good.

Four of us dined at Janaki mid week.... The serving staff was very pleasant and the food was freshly cooked. It was very tasty and well presented. However I felt that the portion sizes were not as generous as other equivalent Indian restaurants and they were a lot more expensive? The bill came to just over £78 for 4 pomdadoms, 4 curry’s, 2 Pilau Rice, 1 plain Naan and 3 alcoholic drinks.... (No starters or deserts) I would eat there again and or order a take away if they reduced there prices in line with other Indian Restaurants...

I'm in Solihull about once a month and this is convenient to my usual hotel, but that's not why I go. The food is excellent, as is the service. There is good variety on the menu, ranging from very mild to moderately hot, and the waiter will give recommendations. Our group this time included a vegetarian, a few locals who like a hot curry, a Frenchman who doesn't eat hot spicy food, a Polish man who doesn't eat spicy food, and two Americans who are perfectly comfortable with hot TexMex but have never eaten Indian. So, we got a variety of mains and sides, and the waiter recommended a couple of the dishes served as starters to aid sharing. Everyone enjoyed the variety - the biggest problem was identifying dishes as they were passed round the table. Very good, and very reasonably priced (though I didn't pay on this occasion)
