This is by far the best food you will eat. All cooked fresh and to whatever preference you like. Can not recommend enough. I use on a regular basis and have done for the last 9 years. I live on the outskirts of Hull but travel to Howden as is so worth it. You have to try.

Visited here on Mother's Day, we were a table of 9, it is only a small restaurant but it was full, only 1 gent serving all of the customers as well as taking orders for takeaways, food was delicious and the guy serving was very welcoming and friendly. We did have to wait s little while for our main but this is always understandable when places are busy especially doing takeaways on top of normal meals. However it was worth the wait and all the family enjoyed it.

Bien hecho Jamil Spice, IR A PROBARLO!!!!

Friendly staff and good reliable North Indian cooking. Kofte recommended. Only downside is the cold draft when people come in for takeaways. The fact that the restaurant is tiny is actually a plus - if you are with a large group it's like having a private dining room.

Having read all the rave reviews on trip advisor we decided to give this establishment a try as it seemed to be the best one in Howden all be it that the one close by is well recommended too.We were in Howden during the morning and went to see how the restaurant looked from the outside.First impressions were not good as although the place was closed at that time and the blinds were shut, it looked fairly basic on the inside from what we could see, and the windows etc outside had not been cleaned in a while. In fact to be honest we thought it may have closed down. However when I phoned them after opening time it was in fact open. We decided to give it a try. On entering we were greeted by the owner who it has to be said is a very personable chap. The restaurant is very small and narrow and can accommodate about 24 customers though I would think it would be a bit claustrophobic when full.Unfortunately the place is very dated so far as decoration is concerned and has a bit of a D.I.Y look about it. Feels like your stepping back in time to the 1970s. We chose a table ourselves which was fairly simple as we were the only customers there at the time, and no others came in whilst we were present. We ordered our meals which were promptly delivered but while waiting in an otherwise empty restaurant we had chance to have a good look round. Whilst I am sure that the owner does his best the place is not the cleanest, having a somewhat grubby feel. Possibly due to the fact that the carpets are in serious need of a good cleaning. Being a very small place there is plenty of foot traffic on the carpet and it is quite badly soiled. As for the food, it was ok. Quite tasty and well cooked but lacking in presentation. Very much what you would expect from take away food. The portions are on the small side but that doesn't bother us as we don't have big appetites. All in all given the rave reviews a little disappointing so far as the food is concerned, but definitely needs a lot of TLC in general. In rating this as average I have taken into account that it was a very quiet night which possibly didn't give the best impression.Otherwise I would have rated it as overall poor to average. Some attention to detail and updating would improve things tremendously.

The Jamil is a bit over-showed by a bigger Indian restaurant in Howden. But it is worth trying. There is quality in the dishes that puts it above an average Indian.A big advantage is being able to take you own beer and wine. This is a massive saving and the reason we eat here more than its rival. Its nice to take my family here as its smaller and less noisy.

Excellent value for money, this little gem is tucked away in a small cobbled street off the Market Place. A wide variety of dishes including many different dishes from the usual Indian menu. Not licenced but you are welcome to take your own alcohol (there is an off-licence close by), glasses are provided and there is no corkage charge. Service is always cheerful and welcoming.

I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine and as I work in Howden, a night with colleagues seemed the perfect opportunity to try this tiny Indian restaurant. Like an increasing number of restaurants these days, Jamil Spice hasn't got an alcohol license so you must bring your own. A fantastic idea, though I was driving so couldn't enjoy it to its full potential. The restaurant itself is cramped, though some could say cosy. With our party of 9 in, it was wall to wall full.By far the worst point of the evening was waiting for our food. The wait was something which, had I been on my own, would've caused me to walk out.The food itself was good, though I have tasted numerous better curries in my time. I opted for a Chicken Rogan Josh which was of a good standard with lovely soft chunks of chicken breast marinated in the rich sauce, though it was slightly oily. We accompanied our curries with numerous naan breads which were all very tasty and rice. I had rice with lemon which was lovely and fragrant.Overall, the food is good, but I've had better and the restaurant is a little cramped. I'd probably return, but not in a hurry.

Jamil Spice is a small independantly run Indian restaurant and take away located down a small cobbled street in the centre of Howden. You always feel welcome in the place as the owner makes an effort to get to know you and know what you like to eat. If you cannot see it on the menu just ask and he can create the meal you like. The good thing about this place is you are never rushed and you bring your own Beer and wine (thus the bill is always lower than it would be in other restaurants) We often visit as a family, my children 5 and 7 go for the Scampi and chips, (they share an adult portion) If you want relaxing, clean , friendly meal at a good price visit this place soon!

Visited the refurbished and renamed Jamil Spice for the first time this weekend and was impressed with the new menu and special offers. The actual restaurant has been opened for a number of years but a recent change in ownership has prompted a number of changes to both the interior and menu. This is a small restaurant situated in the historic centre of Howden specialising in Indian / Bangladeshi cuisine. The place also offers a takeaway option which, by the number of callers during our visit, appeared very popular. There is no alcohol licence and the friendly staff encourage you to take your own (no corkage fee) so we both enjoyed a nice bottle of red, purchased from a nearby off licence, with our meal. The menu offers a wide choice of dishes and our order was taken quickly. The starters and main courses all arrived on time and were of a very good standard with decent portion sizes. A Chicken Shashlick main remained the highlight of the meal. Will definitely return.

We had a takeaway last night and will not be getting one again. The tikka masala was like tinned tomato soup. Pilau rice had no flavour. I can’t understand why this place gets such good reviews for the good. It’s like it’s from the 1950’s. Do better!
